overlord77:dear overlord77, congrats on your visa. if you are visiting canada for the first time and you dont have a specific event or period to visit, egypt air is always cheapest around late november to early december. the planes are not new but you'll get there while saving out a lot. the cold during this period however, is severe.also lookout for deals on BA, you can get a flight to toronto for just 600GBP with transits in London and montreal. i shall also like to tell you to use the UP express, a pearson airport train service, to go downtown toronto, you will love it and it will cost you just 12CAD. a taxi or uber for this service will set you back at least 45CAD. ottawa is a great city to visit too and montreal if money is not a problem. if you're an explorer and like to see and feel things for yourself, try and see one of the finest cities on earth, vancouver or venture into the freezing streets of yellowknife, the capital of NWT province. i know you cant see it all at once but i like trying. if you have a valid US visa, flying to boston or NYC and then getting a separate connection to toronto is always cheapest if you plan well ahead of time. enjoy your trip. best of luck. |
expertman:dear expertman, GCMS notes can be applied for online. the route i know is via http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-atip.asp or https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/ but you may need a canadian resident to help you out with this. @justmechika, please can you assist with this to help expertman out here. thank you |
nefertitiram:dear nefertitiram, sorry for your friend's refusal. i shall question the honesty of your friend first before i question the VOs possible mistake of omission. let me remind you that a VO makes further requests mostly when a document seems fraudulent and most of the times, applicants don't reply because indeed the document was fraudulent. if this is not the case with your friend, he can appeal. this is however, a long and annoying process which may not end well and it may even do him more good to just reapply. if he applied online, this request letter always pop up in the messages but i do not know how it is sent over in paper applications as i didn't have any refused paper applications prior to 2013 before the online became conversant to everyone. this is a rather unfortunate situation because when VOs request for clarification, they are just somewhat in-between and need a little more convincing from the applicant to win them over for issuance. i would not expect his refusal letter to contain this detail but his GCMS notes will. best of luck. |
justmechika:dear justmechika, canadian VOs are thorough and one of the ways to go is overwhelming them with relevant and truthful documents. the pension has been built over a period of three months and its your hard earned money so why not? it should be in your application. you have three years work experience; in your letter of explanation, did you explain to the VO how significant this is? how you expect a promotion in a certain period that you'd rather wait for than to disappear to a country where you cant work on a certain visa you seek? if you are entitled to the land your father owns, can you get it converted to yours? if no, can you get documentation showing that this land has been willed to you and notarize it? if you husband resides in canada fully, point out how you both have planned to handle visits and how this will not be violated and why. take your time and make sure you are convinced everything is right.best of luck |
peppers:dear peppers, this is the 21st century and the digital era. nobody needs to stamp 'refused' on anybody's passport but let that not deceive you. the documentation of the digital age is top notch and most 1st world country visas are MRVs meaning any authorized person with the right computer can read circumstances even considered before issuance. so to answer your first question, you have to always agree to your refusals. it does not weigh down your application per say especially if you have addressed its issues.it also shows youre honest but this honesty is expected of you also so no reward points there. once you lie about refusals, for canada, you will be refused and even if issued, it can be cancelled anytime, sometimes without prior notice. secondly, it is wrong to not attach a return ticket. it shows absolutely no plans of return to your home country. this may cost you but again every application is different and this is a holistic approach. paying for a hotel does not improve your chances of getting a visa. dont spend your hard earned money prior to that foil being affixed. i am not sure what you're asking in the last part but if you have done your bio-metrics, your application is considered complete and it shall be queued and await its turn for a VOs assessment.Good luck |
SamReinvented:Dear SamReinvented, as advised by Awelekiti, you can send correction email to lagos.immigration@international.gc.ca and accra.immigration@international.gc.ca but dont lose sleep over this, it is indeed minor and your application will not be refused for it. major errors are mostly when it comes to an applicants DOB or issues about criminal history.best of luck |
anniora:Dear anniora, the canadian VO is not bound by law to reveal the actual reason for refusal in the refusal letter like the UK ECOs are. They can tick whatever they like. I know someone who had been everywhere in Europe and had been to US and his canadian visa refusal had travel history as reason. He wasn't traveling too much or too long neither was he visiting hostile cities. Applying for GCMS notes is the only way to know why an application was refused. This is like writing an exam, failing and then re writing the same exam without knowing what or why you failed. A failure might just be imminent. In your case, having visited and returned is an upper hand but every application is different. all applications are treated as though they're first timers as the 'dropbox' option is not available. Your chances cannot be told. You and the VO are in the best position to tell because only both of you know your story completely. Best of luck |
mrchemist:Dear mrchemist, my knowledge is limited. I am here to learn as well. I am not sure if canada has the spouse of a student option like the F2 category in the US visa categories. She may have to apply for a normal visitor visa first. Child delivery is allowed on this visa but she has to be very honest about her intentions and show communication with a doctor and evidence of a lot of money mostly in cash at POE or evidence of payment already made. She must stay away from government grants too. The CBSA is worse than the US CBP. They can even preauthorize your card to verify the claimed amount. They tackle even Europeans the same way. Having a baby in canada ends at that. It does not make her more qualified to be a PR than anybody else neither does it make it easier for her to get a study permit. Now her husband is in canada, she has an even greater burden to overcome in explaining to a VO as to why she'll come back after her studies. My opinion. Good luck |
Fagam:Hi Fagam, if you have a booking agent friend, he can easily help you out with this. You can also use any airline website. This reservation will be cancelled if you do not pay after a specified period but it matters not. The VO is looking to see how you have planned to go back home, thats all. The keyword is planned. After-all people buy return tickets, travel and then refuse to go back home. The VOs know this. You only need show it to help overcome the immigrant intent. Best of luck |
khasm:Hi khasm, a reservation need not be confirmed. As always, never commit your hard earned money prior to visa issuance. Any booking agent can help you out with this or you can head to some airline websites to do it yourself. It will just show departure and arrival times and duration of stay with no pricing details. The intent to go back to your home country is what a VO is looking for. Best of luck |
tripplebabygirl:Hi tripplebabygirl, yes you can if its legit. I had to add the legit part because its nigeria. The international drivers permit can be issued in lagos but you must first hold a valid verifiable Nigerian drivers licence. However, if this idea is purely for fun, maybe you should avoid doing it on your first visit(if its your first) as this may cause problems. Fines are dashed out carelessly in Canada; jay-walking can attract as much as 100CAD. Best of luck |
expertman:Hi, please dont be in a hurry to reapply. Apply for your GCMS notes. This may clarify things further. Then address its issues with documents. If this is properly done, then you have overcome the presumption and should qualify for a visa. I get confused when people say things like 'repackage and refire'. a VOs decision is not personal. When an applicant reapplies, One of the things the new VO may do is to make reference to the refused application . They work to implement immigration laws which are even online and you can read them. VOs are more confident when they see you know what you're doing. The best, always. |
expertman:Hi expertman, i have seen your email request but i am a busy fellow and work stress is too much, lagos is not for the weak. I like to do this at my leisure and i do it because I understand the process and want to share and learn more. Please accept my apologies. I am not sure what you're asking. Purpose of travel would be why you're visiting Canada and then Ontario in particular maybe even down to where in ontario you're going. In the online portal however, what you provide as response to this question will be documented evidence of your planned visit. Return air ticket reservation, hotel reservation, itinerary of planned activities and so on. Please pay for nothing until you have a canadian foil in your passport. I hope this helps. Best of luck |
baani:Dear Baani, sorry for your dilemma. However, as you are thinking of this, the CBP and CBSA already thought of it. What you plan to do is called a 'de facto resident' where you try to exit borders and reenter so you're stamped in for fresh six months. This will backfire and as its an elderly person involved, she probably will never want to travel anywhere after the experience because once she cant show a return ticket to her home country, its detention, visa cancellation, ban then deportation. To answer your questions; 1) this is not a good plan 2) this is totally up to you. But given the circumstances, assuming you hold a valid greencard, i think its better she applies from nigeria 3) create an account and apply for a visa. Its a complex website but you can get around it 4) its 185CAD and your US debit card can easily help you out here 5) eaily do this at Booking.com. No stress there 6) largely, no interview but personally, i consider a statement of purpose a non-appearance interview 7) my advise is to file for a residency for your mother. It may take time but i think its better. You can get her a canadian visa and you all visit and return to US as planned but once you repeat this, it may be an issue and she has to have a return ticket to Nigeria at all times meaning you have to keep shifting her return reservation which will cost money. As you plan to drive, you probably won't be stamped in maybe just an I94 and this will mean that there will be no reset of the 6months meaning that you enter back and continue where you left off. There's a provision to check enteries on cbp's website. I checked mine recently and it didnt show my land crossing. Please head to www.cbp.gov to understand this properly. Alternatively, you can buy her a ticket with route jfk-los-jfk. This is the cheapest route to the US. Shun her return ticket and make jfk her origin instead of lagos, you'll save out a lot of money from this. |
mrchemist:dear mrchemist, if your sister delivers in Canada her baby will be a Canadian citizen and she can subsequently get Canadian visas easier. however, this does not qualify her for a PR. you misunderstood my point i think.my point was that if you arrive as a visitor and then during your visit you secure a study TRV(have a study request approved by CIC), you MUST exit and reenter Canada to be issued a study permit. however, this is a very difficult procedure as you do not have any ties in Canada as a visitor. in my opinion, i think CIC approve more study TRVs than visit TRVs so why cant people just apply from here and avoid stress.Best of luck |
gr8tstar:Hi gr8star, this is somewhat similar to wanting to seek asylum. a visit visa is issued on the grounds that the applicant will come back so wanting to stay back is in contradiction. for the student visa conversion, a visitor is issued a category V visa while a student is issued an S visa. they are very different. in addition, even if you secure a study TRV within Canada, you MUST leave as a visitor and reenter as a student for CBSA to issue a study permit. if you have a US visa, you can easily do this crossing and entering back but i guess you can use Barbados as it is visa free for nigerians. |
Graceee:Hi Graceee, i am honestly not sure how this is done. my first Canadian visa was issued in lagos. newer was accra. my little sister's own was issued in london while my big sister's was issued in accra. we all applied in lagos via paper in earlier years and online post 2013. i dont understand how it works but it matters not really as the VOs worldwide receive the same training. |
yerwachic:hi yerwachic, Montreal is a great choice, you'll love it. it is completely possible to secure visas without any invitations. you just need to get your documentation right and your story convincing. the financial part of the trip may be on the high side. montreal is a french city; largest Quebec city i guess. so the french culture is there and one of the things that comes with the french culture is high cost. if you have made any trips to francophone africa, you'll understand what i mean. you may have to budget 5000CAD for this trip including flight tickets and for your planned duration but of course it depends on things you'd want to do. |
irewole1:Hi, the express entry requirements have greatly changed in the past six months. you can get an invitation without a job offer. for very detailed information, you may have to visit the Express Entry Thread here on nairaland: https://www.nairaland.com/2624318/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled |
lexycool01:Hi Lexycool01, this will largely depend on the part of cyprus you temporarily reside and study. to the best of my knowledge, the northern cyprus region is governed by Turkey while the southern part is governed by Greece. so depending, you will have to turn in your application in Ankara or istanbul in turkey or Athens in Greece. i dont know cyprus well but if you reside in the nicosia region, you may have to visit Ankara which i think is closer than istanbul.best of luck. |
johnpoko:Dear Johnpoko, i am sorry for whatever you are going through but please reconsider. apart from the fact that you have to first qualify for a visa, be issued a visa and land in Canada to even start this process, it is a very long and tricky process. you will be subjected to various hearings and it is almost impossible that you dont change your story which of course is a big problem once you do. this is also a tormenting process and it doesnt always end well. please reconsider. |
dynekest:Hi, you should bear in mind that you cannot qualify for a visa with another persons ties. Properties are just a way to show you have something tangible to bring you back home, its not a must to own one to qualify for a visa. People with no properties get issued visas all the time. If these are now yours, why not follow through the legal proceedings and make them officially yours first. As always, you cannot convince a VO if you are not convinced yourself. Best of luck. |
dynekest:Dear dynekest, please do not rush your application.in my opinion, you should include your own personal statement of account as it is not seen as appropriate, spending money in a company's account on vacation even if the company is yours. you should separate business from pleasure. i am not sure about the exclusion from tax payment but if you were told about this, you have to get documented evidence for it as mere words will not carry much weight. besides, if the company was registered Jan 2016 as claimed, it is currently 16 months old and should qualify for one. try to overwhelm the VO with concrete evidence in you application and please be honest. Best of luck |
dynekest:Hi dynekest, if any country has ever refused you a visa, the answer to this question is yes. any lie in this category is an express refusal and comes with a ban as an icing on the cake. Canada verifies everything. be very honest. best of luck. |
prettyirene:Dear Prettyirene, i always advise against applying when an applicant has doubts and currently you do. please clear them first before you commit this 185CAD. as Omobendel24 pointed out, creating an express entry profile is a clear indication of willingness to migrate. as your profile was never submitted, i am not sure if the VO would be able to tell this interest. a VOs job during adjudication is to predict if a visitors visa applicant will return. if an immigrant interest has been indicated, as in your case, to be safe please point this out but this is usually a great burden to overcome. this is not impossible but even the US VOs tell applicants that in the case of the US, this is also a tough task. you need to demonstrate a lot of ties. social and economic and in some cases, a great deal of travel history. take time and gather your documents and prepare for this application intellectually, its not an easy one. my opinion and Best of luck. you need it. |
PlOOT:Dear PlOOT, the scenario is much clearer. a little advise i have to offer is that in your letter of explanation, please specifically mention the arrangements you've made for how your other child will be taken care of, say by your mother, and include any sort of evidence you can (if its by your mum, let her write you a letter confirming this). because the Onus is on you, you can never have too many documents. make solid plans and itinerary of what you plan to do in Canada(of course you should never pay for anything prior to Visa) and why Canada. the VO might wander why you're not going to the US instead from UK as the Visa is easier for you to process so you have to point out that concern too and address it. my opinion always.Best of luck. |
Graceee:Dear Graceee, i am honestly not sure about this one. i guess the applicant might have to visit and sort out this one on their own or send an email to accra and lagos offices pointing this out but i guess that may be late as the biometric letter is already out. this is not a deal breaker. have some faith. |
PlOOT:Dear PlOOT, please note that the scenario painted is not clear. are you a single mother? because if you are, your baby is a significant tie back home and traveling with her puts a greater burden on you to overcome. after birth, i hope you took no government grants in the US and have cleared your payments. the onus is always on an applicant to convince the VO that this is a temporary visit. as an adult, you have to individually qualify for a visa. your baby is a minor and by virtue of birth in the US, is already qualified to travel to canada without a visa and stay for up to 180 days and the Canadian VO knows this. my take is, should you decide to include her in your application(always go with your gut and have reasons for it), please do include her passport data page as an applicant is always advised to be upfront with information, anything you think might count and make adjudication easier for the VO. write a convincing letter of explanation explaining your economic and social ties in Nigeria and bear in mind that this letter carries little or no weight without documented evidence to back it up. point out to the VO reasons you must have to come home and make it clear you don't intend to be a de-facto resident(i assume you still have a valid US visa).VOs , from my little experience, are swayed easier when you point out their concerns yourself and address them convincingly. Best of Luck. |
dotcomnamename:Hi. Nothing is definite in visa applications as each is different. Satisfying a VO is not personal, it means overcoming an immigrant intent according to the law. Not traveling outside an applicant's home country is not a crime neither is being refused by an embassy but both are being considered by a VO in an application. Why do visa applications request for this information? They can easily access it anyway and VOs dish out misrepresentation penalties if an applicant lies about prior refusals. A US visa applicant once shared that after his practices for his interview, the first question the VO asked was 'why did the italians deny you visa? And you believe this doesn't matter? The people you believe overcame this probably had their refusal issues addressed sometimes without knowing. Especially if you were refused for misrepresenting, it is a big deal and even if a visa was issued, it can very easily be cancelled sometimes without prior notice. My opinion always. |
fredfrank02:Dear fredfrank02, sorry for the refusal. Its a good thing you're not rushing. Take your time, its the way to go. The way i know an applicant can apply for GCMS notes is online. Create a cic account and if possible, link your application with it. In your account you should be able to apply for these notes and input the required information so your file can be easily tracked by an agent. Best of luck |
Graceee:Hi Graceee, patience might be all you need. Once you've paid, you're entitled to this letter because your application is considered incomplete without biometrics unless the applicant is underaged or overaged. Please be patient and try logging on after 48hrs to check the portal if no email notification is still received. |
stjsd:Hi stjsd, we were all novices on our first trip. However, not having enough money is one of the fastest ways a visitor can be repatriated. How would you leave your home country to a land over 10000km half way across the world and plan not to have money with you? How much money do you have with you? And how long are you staying? Are typical border patrol questions and this will help an immigration officer make a quick estimate of whether you have enough money or not especially if you're a first time visitor and dont have a host or relative you're visiting. But be careful, dont say you have no one in your application and show up at border and say you do. These visas are MRVs hence the border agents can easily see the circumstances considered by the VO before issuing the visa. Your story has to always be the same thats why you should always be honest. The last thing you want to hear from an immigration officer is 'please step aside sir/maam', it means 'your problems begin now'. How much money is expected of you would greatly depend on what province you're staying and for how long. Budget $100 per day and thats USD and have it handy not in a palastic. Best of luck. |
