emeify:
Please what is the appropriate visa type and process for minor to accompany a parent on a study permit? Do they need visitor visa and can it be processed before I leavebfot Canada? Or is there another visa form for dependants?
Hi emeify, im not sure canada has those subcategories like the US. You might have to apply for a visit visa as well for the minor. Super visa would have done the job because the holder can stay for up to 2years but it is only for parents or grand parents. As to whether it can be processed in time or not, please refer to the timelines of peoples updates on this forum. Best of luck

dgoodrich101:
Hello, Good day Everyone on Naira Land , Thank you all for the contribution and advice its been really helpful , May the Most High Crown all our efforts .

Please am a presently on vacation in the USA on B1/B2 Visa please i will like to know if it possible for one to apply for a canada tourist visa in the US while on vacation in the US.

With the little information i could gathered on this forum, i realized that its possible but am not too certain , Is their anyone who have tried this in this year 2017 and got apprival and can i please get a list of document required to be summited to them, and the office where the document will be submitted to in the US.

Thank you and God bless
Dear dgoodrich101, please be informed that a VO is trained to link an applicants tie to his/her home country when adjudicating a case. if you're on vacation in the US on a B1b2 visa, considering this is a non-immigrant Visa, what ties do you have there? personally, the only reason i think someone might consider taking this route is perhaps to save time as a decision may be made sooner. please be careful not to waste your money as people who are issued via this route probably would have been issued in Nigeria as well. i have earlier made an example here of a friend who has valid US visas with his family, visited twice and returned before making a TRV application.it was refused.

secondly, you might want to consider reading what 'de facto resident' means as regards US CBP and Canada's CBSA. crossing from canada to the US and vice versa can be tricky sometimes because once the CBP or CBSA randomly asks for a return ticket to your home country and you cant show it, that's a huge problem no matter how much money you have with you. whenever you're not applying from your home country, you have a greater burden to overcome.

however, if you're a traveler that explores, like myself, you might want to know that you can cross into mexico with your valid US visa once stamped into the US. so if you're in a southern state like Texas and co, you can arrange a not-so-expensive trip to mexico for a day or two and have some fun.
Best of Luck

Dear Justmechika, now it is much clearer what might have caused this.
a fiancee is a significant tie when he is with you back home but when visiting the fiancee is the primary reason for travel, it can be a little difficult because you can easily stay back. the GCMS notes clearly mentioned economic ties and thats probably what you need to work on.
not traveling is not a crime. in fact, it shows an applicant's satisfaction in his/her home country in some way. i have visited some east african countries and in Kenya for example, to my greatest surprise, despite being the regarded as the 'IT giant of Africa', Kenyans dont travel. the VFS offices in Nairobi are deserted.also, i once met a Liberian girl who told me that when a US VO asked her why she wanted to visit the US, she answered that all her friends had been to NYC and when they talk she just watches and she doesnt like it.her visa was granted. unfortunately, our country's image is dented and that leaves us with even a greater burden to overcome in impressing a VO.
my take is, should you wish to apply for a visit visa again, write a letter of explanation specifically pointing out reasons for the refusals as stated in the GCMS notes(attach them). now, you even have a heavier burden of proof because you're married and i assume your other half is in Canada. you have to look inwards and ask yourself if you feel you will return home. this is often accessed by the VOs by evaluating your academic qualifications and your work experience. if they're in line, it goes a long way to show you're building something. tell the VO how you're aware you cant work on a visit visa and how you cant leave your career and dreams(tell him/her what it is and how big it is) here in nigeria and go become and illegal immigrant in a new land by overstaying or disobeying visa rules. tell the VO about the family you have here that you cannot abandon, the friends you've had for years, the properties you have(if any) and any concrete evidence of what holds you down in Nigeria. your letter of explanation is your way out. draft it in segments and in details, back it up with documents and pray you get a considerate VO. please be careful to not write for pity but to establish yourself and ties to Nigeria.
Alternatively, you can apply as a couple and visit somewhere else together( perhaps as honeymoon if resources are readily available) and return before you make your next application, that will go a long way but please don't make unnecessary trips like just going to ghana by road to 'disvirgin' your passport. it carries no weight.
Best of luck
TravelRe: Canada Visit/tourist Visa Discussion. by Jawa:

Hi Justmechika, sorry for your refusal. let me start with the actual meaning of travel history as a reason for refusal. as you said, yours is believed to be because you've not traveled before but don't be deceived, the US and Canada issue most first time travelers visas. however, this can also mean that the VO is not satisfied with the frequency of an applicant's travels or perhaps the locations visited.

that being said, there is a reason the Canadian government attaches a fee (though just 5CAD) to GCMS notes, its because it is very important. please don't rush. apply for these notes, pay the fee and when its out, read it carefully and address all issues it pointed out. in your next application, attach the GCMS notes to your letter of explanation (the VOs can easily access this note but being upfront with it goes a long way in showing how honest you are) and explain in detail how all the issue(s) raised have been addressed and why you cannot abandon your home country for anything.

in my opinion, the reason applicants get refused is that there is a lot of rush in applications and in some cases people try to be 'smart' with lies. with rush, mistakes then set in and there isnt enough explanation. in a visa application, nothing is definite. every applicant's situation differs. for example, people often say bulk deposit in statement of account leads straight to rejection. this is not necessarily true. personally, i have made bulk deposit two weeks before my application but in the SOA upload, i attached evidence of how the money came about and where it was liquidated from with dates and documents to genuinely show. this is the reason the US VOs are not interested in documents including statement of account because you can 'build' it and it then doesn't show the true financial circumstance of the applicant. it is not a true indication of whether an applicant will come back. always bear in mind that the US and Canada are more interested in intellects than how much money you have unlike the UK.
Best of luck

Meggito:
Please house, if I decide to go on my visit to the US , is there a way to get my passport across to d CA embassy incase I'm approved for a visa.
Dear Meggito, my advise would be to wait on this and sort it out before you travel. you are about to stress yourself going the route youre about to. patience is a virtue, please exercise some. an application may be denied irrespective of where it is made. the onus is always on an applicant to return to his/her home country, not the country in which the application was made. best of luck

Hello house,
Kindly respond to my situation pls if you have an idea of what is happening through personal experience or something. We applied for tourist visa via online since 23 february and we have not heard anything. What can we do? And what does this signify
Dear Omodadi2, this is a peculiar situation but it has no meaning per say. Every visa application is treated differently. Maybe verifications are taking time in your own case. Its not an indication of acceptance or rejection. Be patient, you'd get a response soon.

Ekinado:
Good day ladies and gentlemen,Pls I intend to renew our expired visas this may but I would like to know from fellow forumites if a Passport with about 8 months left to expire is ok to process the renewal on drop box? Has anyone dealt with this kind of situation before.
Hi Ekinado. The Canadian government, to the best of my knowledge, don't have a dropbox option. this is offered by the US government to returning applicants. all applicants do a normal application for first issue or renewal.
To answer your question, you can apply with a passport with 8 months validity but why stress? the Canadian government, unlike the US and UK, would not issue a visa sticker with a validity beyond that of your passport so why not renew the passport first and if you impress the VO, you could get a 5yr visa.
Best of luck

beekie:
Morning gurus in the house. Believe we all had a restful weekend.

I have a situation here and i would appreciate your candid advice from those who have some knowledge or those who has/had someone in the same situation;

I applied for a visitors visa early last year as a single mom of one but i did not apply for my 4year old at that point as i felt leaving him out of the application will show that i had a good reason to come back home (sort of like an home tie). I was granted a 2yr multiple entry and travelled for the period i stated i was going to be away for which was a month.

Fast forward to this year, i applied in march this year (paper route) for my son towards the summer break but got a refusal last week. I actually thought it will be like US where once a parent had their visa its almost 100% chance the children get theirs also. I know Canada can be tough! Reasons for refusal )travel history/purpose of visit and tie in Canada and Nigeria.

Would appreciate if someone advice what to do going forward.
Dear beekie, i am sorry for the visa refusal. lets look at this objectively. you applied for a visa believing that leaving your child in Nigeria is a significant tie and the visa was approved. now you applied for the very significant tie you had at home to join you on your next trip?
the US and Canada might be closely related but are different. as you mentioned, if a US visa applicant qualifies for a visa, all minor dependents under him/her are qualified for the visa, you only need apply. if a single mother takes her only Child to Canada, she can easily choose not to come back. the onus is always on an applicant to convince a VO. canadian visa applicants need to understand that your letter of explanation is about the most important document to make available. it should be like an interview you never had. explaining to the VO what is what and where in your uploaded documents the evidence to support the fact can be found. it makes the job easy for the VO.
my take? apply for GCMS notes. this document will take about 4-6 weeks to process and it will explicitly tell you why the application was refused. it is only when you know what the issue was that you can address it. please forget whatever was ticked and dont rush to reapply when youre not even sure why it was refused in the first place.

@JAWA. Thanks greatly sir. As regards POF, am actually looking at Sakerchenwa or BC. From your thought, what minimum amount of money would you advise I go with. Pls sir, be specific.

Secondly, I noticed people don't seem to travel to other province like YUKON, NEW FOUND LAND,, ETC. Does it mean no jobs in those areas or what. From what I read, seems it easy getting PROVINCIAL NOMINATION as SEMI SKILLED WORKER IN THOSE TERRITORIED.
Pls can you throw more light. Because I really need where I can easily get Provincial Nomination as either SKILLED WORKER or SEMI SKILLED WORKER.
Hi. as regards migration, a lot of factors are to be considered. accommodation, feeding, transport, tax and minimum wage are top of the list.
First, you cant compare Saskatchewan to BC. BC is an expensive province that is home to one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Vancouver. Alberta has a low tax and about the highest minimum wage, nigerians love there.Saskatchewan on the other hand is homely and affordable. tax is at about 6% and rent would set you back around 450CAD to 600CAD for single accomodation and around 900CAD for double occupancy apartment.my guess, if youre heading to, say saskatoon in saskatchewan, for single occupancy you should budget around 1000CAD monthly for everything and thats a tight budget to live up to.
secondly, Yukon and Northwest territories are avoided for the weather basically. lemme paint a picture for you. during winter, you get about 3hrs of daylight in Yellowknife, the capital city of NWT. sun rises around 11am and sets way before 3pm, seriously its frustrating. the cold is severe. on a sunny day in Saskatoon during winter, say in late November, temperature dips as low as -35degrees Celsius but the sun could be out making it tolerable. winter in NWT hits -48degrees Celsius easily with sad fuzzy weather. you dont want to go there but I once met a Nigerian onboard within Canada living there, so its habitable i guess.
lastly, bear in mind that when/if you get a provincial nomination and you accept it, your PR will be tied to that province and you cant work outside the province for about 5years.
best of luck
Good evening everyone ,please I need some honest advice on what to do regarding my canada application. I applied via paper route on 12th of February and I got a message to Pick up my processed passport at VFS on 9th of March, unfortunately I was denied and the reason marked for the denial was " I am not satisfied that you have answered all questions truthfully, as required by subsection 16(1) of the Act .Specifically,I am not satisfied that the following information is truthful :
You have not answered truthfully to section background ,questions 2b)....when I checked to see where that section background(2b) was, it was where asked if have been denied visa before by any country and I said No ,but have been denied by US,to be honest ,as commonly said ,that experiencen is the best teacher ,that didn't work for me

Hi Jerrymax01, sorry for your refusal. This seems like a pretty common mistake recently, if truly it was a mistake. I cannot explain enough how close the government of these countries are but I'll try again. There is a US CBP outpost in Toronto Pearson airport meaning that after security, even though technically still in Canada, you'll be cleared and stamped in at pearson before you leave canada and you'll arrive your US destination as a domestic flight. No more Immigrafion or customs.
My point? If you get as much as s speed ticket in the US, mention it in your canada application even if you weren't asked.
In your future application to canada, write an explicit letter of explanation and take time to try convincing a VO how this is not a lie as you have claimed. Honesty always. My opinion. Best of luck.

Good day house. I really appreciate what is going on here. Please I have a question to ask here.
1) am expecting my visa to be out any moment from now. Is actually a TWO YEAR WORK VISA.
my issues now is that I don't know if I will still be asked at point of entry to show POF.. and how much do you think I can go to Canada with, to sustain me before I get a job.
2) what and what am I supposed to travel with, as I don't have anybody when I land.
3)can someone advise me as per short stay hotel and permanent accommodation.
3)i studied electrical engineering, so which of the state will I be able to get a job quickly.
4)do you think I can go for a menial job first before I settle for a full time professional job. How do I go about it.
5)how do I really go about job hunting and accommodation.
6)how do I get a work permit

Please I need response s plus. Help your fellow brother in the struggle.
Thanks.
Dear Keleto, the last thing you would do is leave your home country without enough funds. This has had many nigerians repatriated. The US CBP sent a nigerian back in February because he claimed he had no friends ir relatives in the US and showed up With 400USD at the POE with a return ticket showing 3weeks. Truth is, Nigerians go abroad and cause more problems for other Nigerians. Please have as much money as is expected of you.
Depending on your province of destination, your budget will vary.
2. All documents to avoid stories and a load of money

3. Nobody can categorically answer this. It depends.

4. Menial hobs can help with small accommodation and feeding but thats it.

5. There is a job bank you register in and find jobs just like its done in Nigeria.

6. If you're getting a two year work visa, as you had claimed, a work permit will be issued at PoE. Question is who told you its a 2yr work visa because visa duration is at the discretion of the VO

Best of luck

Eyah, lufthansa go cut your throat be dat oo. It's always expensive. All I know is, when you get to Cairo, the flight that would take you to your destination in canada is AirCanada and no more Egyptair. I was surprised the first time I observed this, flying Aircanada from Cairo to my destination. Maybe their flight(egypt air's) is operated by Air Canada from Cairo to Canada, I wouldn't know..which could have been made possible under the alliance arrangement. If you ask Egyptair if they go to Canada, they wouldn't say no,of course. Cos of the alliance.
Dear Omobendel and Awelekiti, much appreciation to the time you people put into this thread. Very impressive i must say. Thank you.
I shall start with the airline issue. From my own personal experience late last year, Honestly, egypt air is only fairly priced. Thats all. The trip was operated by egypt air all the way to Toronto. The aircraft they bring to lagos is a very old boeing 737. No personal IFE, just couple of screens mounted up showing arabic movies. Sad, but it'll get you to your destination. The wait in cairo is usually around 5.45hrs to 6.45 hours. The cairo airport is fine and cozy and lively. You can pass time easily. My problem was particularly with the flight from cairo to Toronto. You put 300 passengers in an old Airbus A330 and no personal IFEs. Thats really bad especially for a 12hr flight. In my experience, it was only the flight to saskatoon from Toronto that an air canada flight came into play and boy, aircanada sells everything onboard local flights including earphones.
For Ethiopian airliles, this is easily, and by far, the best airline out of africa. The flight to lagos is just as new as emirates 777-300ERs huge and comfortable. Leg space is ok. Food is ok. Its usually 5.30hrs to addis and the addis airport is just okay for a transit. I'm not sure how they compute this but ET wait times are just too short. Good for a lot of people but me i always want to shower before my long haul flights. The flight from addis to Toronto is a brand new boeing 787-8 dreamliner. World class and silent. You'll think you're home. The only somewhat annoying thing on this very route , for me, is they always route the addis to Toronto via a quick stop in dublin, ireland im not sure why. But returning, they'd fly straight from Toronto to addis in a 777-200LR. The planes are generally clean and the air hostesses are ever courteous and gorgeous.
If you're not in a haste and aren't loyal to one airline just yet, you should try ET.

Hi everyone,
I intend going to Canada for visit and wish to apply on a tourist visa how do I go about it pls. I currently have a US visa and I have travelled on few occasions what are my chances as I heard if u have a US visa all you need to is a drop box option how true is that.
I appreciate the help and responses
Hi Hawklan. This is absolutely untrue.
Dropbox is only for returning US visa holders and only practiced by the US, to the best of my knowledge. Even canadian visa holders do normal applications to renew their visas.
In as much as these countries are cooperative, their immigration laws differ. To start with, one is non-appearance while the other isnt. Travel history to the US would boost your Canadian application.however, its never a guarantee as people eith rmpty passports get visas always.
My advise to friends always is; evaluate yourself as a VO. Ask yourself questions and if you can convince yourself honestly thats your not immigraying and have enough money, you can get visas easily

A lot of intended applicants still believe that if US refuse you a visa Canada will also refuse you. No, it doesn't matter. Infarct somehow it looks more of people with previous US visa refusal do get their Canadian visa than applicants with virgin passport or even with previous visas of other countries plus travel experience. If you're refused US visa and if you honest in your Canadian visa application and explain reasons for your previous refusal in your Sop, i don't see reason why Canada won't approve your visa.
Hi. Im not sure of your point but remember these two countries are very cooperative. If you're denied a visa in any country and the grounds for denial have not been satisfied, another can easily deny based on those grounds.
A friend at work has valid US visas with his family of four, visited twice, applied for a canadian TRV but it was refused. He's still awaiting GCMS notes.
Remember that the US VOs are not even interested in how much you make ( people with less than 100k salaries get visas daily) they depend on the psychological evaluation from answers to their questions in the interview window to predict if an applicant will return.
Whether ever denied or not, the onus is ever on the applicant to prove he'll return home.
You can also have strong ties and not enough money. You cant have NGN500k as balance and plan to go on a vacation that'll cost you over $1500 for 5days assuming you're heading to a cheap city. Its a wholistic approach.

Hi successuche2017, the answer is yes. And since you cant know why your US visa was refused due to US immigration laws, state why you think this happened, perhaps from your interview, and explain how you have addressed it in your new application

Please urgent response needed. I've travelled to US 3 times on tourist visa, had a child there. The 4th time I was denied entry because I had excess luggage of things to sell and visa cancelled. Now I applied for Canada visa and was refused based on *travel history *. . .what should I do?
Dear Christy. This is a very unfortunate situation, i sincerely empathize with you and i hope you get over or around it soon. My little sister was kept by CBSA, canada's CBP, at Pearson airport for 14 hrs before granting entry because she arrived too early with a study TRV. They verified every single information she gave as to why she came too early and they still didnt issue a study permit. She has to leave after her 'mission' and reenter in due time, they said. Stamped her in for 3weeks.
As Awelekiti pointed out, you have to first get your US visa back. The US and canada are just too cooperative.
First, if your visa was issued in nigeria, it was most likely a B1b2. Business is permitted on this visa. I am however not very sure of the scope of allowed business. im not sure why you were denied entry. How much luggage could it be. I've seen people with very huge bags granted entry.
The baby you had, did you take any government grants? Cos thats a huge problem. Have you paid in full with a zero balance receipt?
If you believe you were treated unfairly in this situation, write the embassy as advised and explain how and why. Best of luck. You need it

Today i got a msg from VFS Global that my passport is ready for collection, after the Canada visa section emailed me about misrepresentation on my application.

Though i replied them with a letter about the misrepresentation on the visa application i filled, not stating my immigration history with USA.

Has anybody ever been in this situation and got approve after been sent a replied letter to them about the misrepresentation? Just scared not to ban for 5 years, has they stated on the letter
Dear Manover, i am not sure but this is most likely going to lead to rejection and a ban.
A history with the US is the last thing you want to with hold from canada or any other country. Infact, if you did your application yourself, the US visa is technically the only visa the online visa portal cares to tell an applicant to upload. To clear further, i once, very recently, crossed into the US from Ontario Ca at niagara falls for a few hours by road and the immigration officer only checked and DID NOT stamp my passport or even issue an I94 form(this is an international border). If you get a speed ticket in the US, canada knows about it.
In future, if /when your ban elapses ( even if no ban was issued, give them some time off and go ther places), endeavor to be upfront with information. It is seen as high level of honesty and can clear your name. My opinion always. Best of luck

it been a while though
Anyways a friend was aking me if one can pay for an online visa application fee with a diamond bank debit card? if no which bank debit card is accepted
Hello, the visa fee last time i checked was 185CAD which is more than 100USD equiv meaning no naira denominated card may be able to help you.
Two options:
Fund a Nigerian dom account and pay with its card or
Confide on someone you trust that has an FCY card to pay for you home or abroad
My bet is on the first option. You dont want complications

Is the visa officer kidding me?, I have ticked that i was denied visa before. Yet a denial letter came through saying i was not truthful in that section. Please advice cause that is the only reason for the refusal
Hi. I am very sorry for your refusal.
First, you might want to apply for GCMS notes to be sure that was the only reason, forget whatever was ticked. It costs just 5CAD
That being said, my opinion is that you forgot the most essential part of the application that the onus is on the applicant to convince the VO that this is a temporary visit and not an immigrant intent. I once had a UK visa refusal just one week before i applied for a canadian visa to attend my sisters convocation. UK refusals, fortunately, are well explained by their VOs unlike the US where the law doesnt permit and you just get a generic blue section 214b form. I mentioned it in my application and attached a copy of the refusal letter in my application and explained why this is not desperation but real reasons for real travels. My application was approved.
You know, its easier for a VO to just deny an application than to be requesting for information you have been already advised to be upfront with. Honesty is very key and expected information not provided could be considered a lie.
Again, please apply for your GCMS notes. Only then can you know the exact reasons for refusal. And write a very detailed statement of purpose paragraphing each sector and explaing honestly. Best of luck.

Dear VO,

I highly commend the efforts. Thank you
I have a dilemma. I applied and have been issued a B1b2. This was to enable me to attend a career related technical conference in June for personal development of which plans are still in place.
I am however traveling to US this march to attempt an exam administered by same company organizing this conference among other things including a trip to canada(i have the right documentation to enter this country and its not my first time) to spend my birthday with my beloved. I had mentioned a plan for a prior trip to US before the june trip at my interview but the VO was typing profusely and didnt seem to be very interested. I really hope he heard me right. My questions;

1) do i have the right visa to enter the US considering i intend leaving the next day( more like a transit but with layover privileges) to canada and back to US in 4days after my birthday to attempt this professional exam prior to going back to nigeria?
NB. Total duration of this trip to us/canada is 8days and i have all tickets(return) paid out and all hotels booked.

2) i have learnt that even though a b1b2 has been issued, the I94 has to carry just one status, which exactly is it in my case? And do i fill another I94 when returning from canada to US prior to leaving for nigeria?

3) can i visit friends on this trip considering one or two people i know are on the east coast and the conference i plan to attend in june is on the west coast and for just one week and in middle of a project at work so i cant visit anyone?
