Hi Pointednose, in a nut shell, you can not qualify for a visa with another person’s ties. Unlike the US. USA process, every Canadian visa applicant is judged individually, including minors. The focus here should be on you and your ties primarily. Not to sound mean, but people leave their spouses or even agree with their spouses when they land to seek asylum and likes. Focus on making the VO understand the visit is temporary. That’s it pointednose: |
Business folks don’t have pension accounts but secure visas daily. For Canada, as we have discussed over and over on this thread, it’s primarily not about how much money you show. Way back, my first Canadian visit visa was issued when I earned N80k monthly. But my job was inline with my academic qualifications which creates the impression the applicant is ‘building’ his career. Several work sponsored trainings home and abroad was evident in the application. I didn’t have money to pay but my mother wrote me a sponsorship letter and transferred the mentioned sponsorship amount to my account and I provided proof of her income, transfer docs and everything necessary documentation. Ties assessment, as VOs say it, is a holistic approach. Age(yes there are high risk migration age 22-29), income, qualifications, employer, wife/husband/children and if you’re traveling with them, travel history and so many others are considered. You have to measure up in more areas than you lack. You could have traveled the whole world and be refused a Canadian visa because if you check migration trends, even Brits are some of the most that migrate to Canada but barely any Canadian move to Europe or elsewhere. Again, for Canada, US, Australia and new Zealand, it’s not primarily about money. If you want a money conscious country, the UK are willing to give you whatever you want so far you don’t do money lodgement. tessytessy: |
LOL. Do you know how hard it is to get an employer to sponsor you under whatever category? Think of it this way, if not maybe an act of sheer nepotism, what skill could one possibly have that’ll make an employer go through the stress and pay for it just to have you employed. There are thousands of highly skilled people without jobs in Canada. The jobs are not easy to get just like in Nigeria. Whenever someone wants to migrate, or even visit as in the scope of this thread, it is best to manage their expectations because I know people personally that have Canadian MSc but no reasonable job yet. The easiest way to move to Canada and have free status is via express entry which I’d say is the easiest process out there just a tad long. Again, the point of this comment is that the LMAI sponsorship is near impossible. Thanks compactimmi: |
Hi Guys, just to update the house. I applied for an Irish short stay visa to attend a training in Cork, Ireland for a week. below are documents submitted; invitation letter from training company letter of introduction from employer personal self introduction letter including all required details (apparently this is very important but i am always very detailed with this letter) six months account statements of all bank accounts held even though employer is sponsoring (explain lump sums and show the money trail) return flight reservation accommodation reservation mortgage papers its good to note that i have extensive travel history but this, i believe, did not play a big role as other colleagues have not traveled much. I wrote all our letters on intro myself in accordance with everyone's circumstance and please don't forget to include the declaration at the end of it that you must leave Ireland and state reasons in Nigeria that will bring you back home. also worthy to note that this training is directly in line with my job roles and responsibilities. application timeline; submitted - 31-05-18 (a week after colleagues group application. I was away on another trip) received at Irish consulate - 04-06-18 temporarily withdrew passport - 07-06-18 (received 08-06-18) returned passport to embassy(with a prepaid return courier) - 04-07-18 tracked passport return courier envelope on 10-07-18 out of curiosity because my colleagues who applied earlier on 23-05-18 as a group received their visas on 09-07-18 and it had been passed on to courier received passport from UPS - 11-07-18 please always feel free to contact the embassy for anything. they are warm and always helpful. i needed my passport for another consulate visa that would take a month and i contacted the embassy who instructed i send my request to abujaembassy@dfa.ie and it was dispatched to me same day with instructions of how to return it and apparently since all applications are attended to in a chronological order, your application will still be in queue and no delays, at least in my case. NB: please do photo copy all your documents before heading to VFS including all passport pages. best of luck guys. |
tripplebabygirl:Hi, I had this dilemma sometime in the past and decided to find out in advance and this was what I got from the horse’s mouth 1) you don’t need a new visa 2)you’re good. The validity of your visa is the time frame you can appear at POE and request for entry. Entry can be granted, though at CBSA officers discretion, for up to six months even beyond your visa validity.
|
borvick:Hi borvick, I believe the thought of renewing your passport is a good one. firstly, the canadians will not issue a visa exceeding your passport validity so you may see yourself going to manor house again sooner than later for a renewal. secondly, you mentioned you want to apply in August, what if by the time they approve and request for your passport, you dont have up to six months on it? i dont see why you cant renew and apply at the earliest possible time and i think you should apply online so invase it doesnt come out on time, it doesnt ruin your US trip. thirdly, which i think is worthy to note, you plan to travel to the US in November while your passport expires April which brings it within the six months mark depending on dates, have you checked with CBP and your Airline to make sure this will not be an issue as a lot of carriers will refuse to airlift you if you fall short of 6months or more validity on your passport? then on your application, i honestly believe that, if you are compact and intellectual with it, it may come out well. the most important thing to note here is that your son has a profile and you must have been listed there so lying about anything will certainly ruin your application. these VOs compare stories and documentation a lot. the docs i believe you need; your sons admission letter your sons birth certificate showing your name clearly your sons study permit/ student visa any evidence of payment of his school fees evidence of your source of income and tax clearance accommodation plan clearly showing duration of visit flight reservation showing destination(which should be your son's city of residence), arrival and departure dates but do not pay a dime an invitation letter from him if he is an adult but dont fret over this. any other relevant docs if i was making this application, i will make sure not to mumble documentation because it is easier and faster for a VO to refuse an application than to request for addition clarification/documentation. write a well detailed letter of explanation(but not more than 2 pages) introducing yourself and relationship with your son, use separate paragraphs to address each category of your travel ;introduction and relationship, income, accomodation, transportation, ties to home country, visa refusals to other countries and why you feel they may have refused you unjustly because they will find out anyway. dont ever listen to people that tell you have excess documents so far the documents are meaningful. attach the first 4 documents i listed to your explanation letter as one upload and make sure to upload all documents in the right places and note that you may have to upload some documents in more than one place. best of luck with your application and I hope you see your son soon. Quick Note: you did not mention if you are a single mum or anything about family so put that into consideration. the VO may also wonder why your son wouldnt get a visa and meet you in the US instead so make sure to have an explanation to that. |
paparazzi1987:hi paparazzi1987, i honestly think this may be false. the applicant created and submitted an EE profile and was deemed ineligible. it was not a case of using the CRS tool to check eligibility. this is a clear indication of an intent to migrate to Canada expressly. he then has 2 study visa refusals with a concern 'not a genuine student' and you're saying it wasnt due to the EE profile created? yes there is something called 'dual intent' but this is a hard case to prove. it is tough for an applicant to show plans to migrate to canada permanently and at the same time want to go study in which a condition is that he has to go back home thereafter. my guess here is that he may have gotten a TRV, then created the EE profile which was deemed ineligible and then applied for the study visas which were refused. if this was the sequence, then the VOs comments are clear enough grounds for refusal but if not, pardon my misunderstanding. @Asihanmi, I hope you took your time with this one because its not an easy one and since you are listed in your wife's application, they may feel this is your easy way out and may refuse it.if your spouse's visa is approved, i advise you to be as prepared as you can at POE with return tickets, accommodation plan and enough money because it can either be a piece of cake 2 minutes or hours of grilling and confirmation. and if you work, please inform your office you're visiting canada. |
Asihanmi:Hi, when an entire family is travelling, there is a greater onus on the applicant because you can very easily decide not to come back or even take the high road(asylum). i dont really know if anyone can advise you on what to put in your statement of purpose. it is your story and you know how best to tell it. your job is simple, make the VO believe beyond any doubt that this is purely a visit visa and include every document including pictures from previous trips(if any) and be honest in your application. best of luck |
Abidemi501:hi Abidemi501, i shall advise you to casually ignore this promise. no one can promise you a job really. if you have a B.ed degree, why dont you work for a while and see if the skilled worker/trades program will work out for you? if you get a visit visa, there is not permission to work or a way to convert it straightforwardly. just take your time and do things the right way, it is completely worth it. |
SeriaBravo:hi SeriaBravo, i hope you have sorted this out. if not, raise a case specific enquiry on this issue and you shall be told what best to do. most likely you shall be asked to submit somewhere close to you while your family submit here. you can also take the high road and send down your passport to them for submission and stamping and then they send back to you. good luck |
gentleiphy:hi gentleiphy, this is not entirely true. this applicant has made a complaint about his application but you have judged just based on that. you did not assess his application or know the whole story. he has not even gotten his case notes as Canadian VOs are not bound to reveal the entire refusal reasons in the refusal letter. an embassy cant just refuse to issue visas, there are grounds on which a visa is issued and if an applicant meets them, a visa must then be issued. his GCMS will go a long way to clarify things so please dont discourage him from getting it. as for US visas, the VOs are trained to look out for what they are looking for. travel history really helps but sometimes a VO still just doesnt trust you. i know people who have studied in the UK for 3+ years and visited more than 10 scheghen countries(which really does count as 1 as they are accessible with a single visa) and got a US visit visa, traveled and never returned, till date. we dont know how these VOs are trained but obviously they are very well trained to do this as majority of their issued visas are used well. this 'mood' story about the US VOs is false as far as i'm concerned. the crap they hear is just too damn much. when you are in the consulate awaiting your turn, you will indeed know that people get the VOs tired of these stories. some dont even make sense to you, who is an applicant with his/her case yet to be judged. in all honesty, the 10-year visa was then issued to you because the VO knows that Canada is better than the US and all those all what not shenghen countries really and since you have a PR in canada, there is no point.you dont see canadian typically migrating to europe but the reverse is crystal clear. most european countries are not doing so well anyway Greece, Spain, Italy etc. if it was personal, they will still refuse the visa because you are not entitled to it as a canadian PR and even if you get a canadian passport, that can only allow you travel to the POE to seek entry which can be refused. its a privilege not a right. i really do hope you get my point |
Zamil3440:Hi Zamil3440, sorry for your refusal. primarily, this application is not about money. you have a company with inflow and outflow and a huge balance but are you spending this money as if its yours? did you make this application with your personal account? how did you budget your trip? your various trips, were they for business or pleasure and from which account were they funded? application route (paper or online) doesnt really matter because the new assessing VO will make reference to the GCMS notes to see if you have satisfied what you have run short of. the advise will be for you to source that document and address its concerns first. best of luck |
vibrant99:Hi Vibrant99, as we have always discussed, the onus is on an applicant to satisfy a VO. there are various upload tabs to use to express yourself in an online application and so much space for a paper documentation. some VOs are patient while some are not. the responsibility is on an applicant solely to sway a VOs mind. |
Peterpan231:Hi, please make reference to your refusal letter to find out which office that processed it then send an email to accra.immigration@international.gc.ca or lagos.immigration@international.gc.ca or just send to both and the responsible office will respond to you as appropriate. alternatively, you can raise a webform at https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx to lay out your complains and state all details such as full name, UCI, DOB and application number. good luck |

Peterpan231:hi Peterpan231, your thought is rational and i thank you for sharing. i shall like to mention that no one here is a Visa officer. all we all do are calculated guesses or random guesses for some people. i can guarantee you that VOs are very well trained and have rules they follow and have where they use their discretion. a VO can have doubts thats why you see someone being issued a 1-yr canadian visa and another issued 4-yrs. we dont know how they measure the totality of an applicants ties but we know what ties they look out for individually, at least some of them. however, for US VOs, they are not interested in documents but majorly base their decision on the outcome of the adjudication in the interview. they know when you lie and when you speak the truth. but you know they are well trained because majority of the people they issue visas travel and leave in due time. you can also visit several countries with a US visa so these countries trust US VO to do a good job. VOs of the same country follow the same process but where and when they have to use discretion, they differ in decisions slightly. as for the fake visa stamps, i dont know first hand anyone that has gotten away with this in a US interview. the only thing a US VO did with my passport was to examine the canadian visa in it with a lens. he saw multiple entry stamps but he still used a lens and examined it for like 3 seconds. im not sure why.for canadian VOs, getting away with fake documents is near impossible as they verify everything they can.as an applicant, just keep your story straight and let it make sense and have some money, Visas will be approved and when they are not, visiting other places is best than stressing over it. |
friend:Hi friend, this might be the easiest way to get your application refused. why would you not want to show this document? always remember that even a US visa that has been used multiple times will not guarantee a canadian visa. the Onus is on you to convince a VO so make sure you always be on the high side. these countries are closely related but very different in a lot of ways. please include all documents required of you. |
tkObserver:Dear tkObserver, travel history is a way a VO assesses your willingness to go back home after a visit to a foreign land. as a criteria to measure ties, they base this on the idea that you have gone to better places and have returned. Barbados is a tiny island like cyprus but unlike cyprus, its not even fine. its 3rd world. when you go to barbados and return, it would carry the same weight as going to ghana so this venture, if it is purely to rake in travel history, is pointless. to directly answer your questions to my knowledge; 1) if you want to travel to barbados still, just buy a ticket as the country is visa free. make sure your flight is not routed via the US or canada ad you cannot do a Direct Airside Transit(DAT) in these countries. Virgin Atlantic have great deals at the moment. LOS-LHR-BGI is your route. 2)dont waste your strength. the qualifications you need to show to secure a transit visa is the same for a visit visa for US and Canada. because as they do not permit DAT(where you just land and connect another flight. you must clear immigration, pick your bags and recheck them in), you can easily disappear from the airport. if you must visit Barbados, avoid a flight routed via the US/canada. 3)as have been stated, the requirements are the same. my advice would be to build up more. apply for GCMS and understand why the refusal decision was made in the first place. travel to other places UAE, UK maybe. travel history is only one factor a VO considers. people with empty passports get issued visas daily.best of luck |
Ijebuboy525:Hi Ijebuboy525, an F1 visa cannot guarantee a canadian visa. when you apply to visit canada, the VO will assess you based on your ties and since you plan to travel with your family, the burden on you is greater. again, applying from the US can only make a decision come quicker not really positive. if Canadian migration is your end game, feel free to explore the Express Entry route as you can easily secure permanent residence the right way. you dont want to put your family through the stress of living as illegal immigrants by overstaying a visit visa. best of luck |
Nuelbrown:hello Nuelbrown, nobody can tell your chances. however, if an application is made intellectually, honestly and assessed unbiased before submission, you can make a calculated guess. the worry here is that as a student, why are you spending 12 whooping weeks (or more) abroad? this will easily put a VO off as people abandon school always. i believe the VOs are too uptight because they know their country. canada is vast and underpopulated. you can easily live untroubled unless you get into problems, if you have a strong mind. well, make your application the best you can and if your gut tells you its not good enough, please leave it and spend some more time here, gather more ground, finish school, maybe get a job and maybe visit other places first. every application is different and a VO is trained to assess this application without sighting you. take your time with this one. best of luck! |
Chanbaby:Hi Chanbaby, please take time with your application. your family has the financially capable for this trip but be grounded and make your application rooted. i know many people with valid US visas that have used it multiple times before applying for a TRV and it was still refused. it all depends on the circumstances of the application but a US visa will not guarantee a canadian visa. on the contrary, please do make a lot of efforts to show significant ties back home as you all have access to the US and can easily live de-facto between the borders. a canadian VO is also aware that you can easily renew US visas. for biometrics, this is done on the same day as your application is submitted via paper or can be done within 30 days of submission if via online. i believe you can pick up the application if it is made as a family one or even just pay for a return courier and have vfs mail your processed application to you. more importantly, since your husband works offshore, make this an online application so you can have your passports handy and he can go to work anytime he wants without dilemma. if/when the application is approved, you will have 30days to submit your passports of which, with evidence, you can even appeal for extensions. your child will not even need an ETA to travel, just buy ticket for 3 when its time to travel. best of luck. |
yinka206:hi Yinka, i am not sure i understand this response but IRCC does not have a dropbox option. this is only done by the US and if you visa expired within the last 12 months. a US visa will NOT grant you entry into Canada, only US alien card holders with an ETA or US passport holders. for the Canadian applicant, you have to fill forms for everyone but in one application. however, your US citizen dependent does not need a visa to enter canada for 180 days but has to be in your application. |
Peterpan231:dear Peterpan231, if Canada is your choice and its a business venture, why not try again. you cant just look elsewhere and one year is enough time for an individual's circumstances to change significantly. but to be honest, as a business man from Nigeria, Canada is usaually not a choice destination and the VOs know that so the onus is on you. firstly, unlike the UK ECOs, Canadian VOs are really not very interested in your money. finances are looked at when all major factors are met. my guess. so this application has to be intellectual and make sense. secondly, if this is a business trip, why are you traveling with the entire family? a VO may wonder. did you explain why? also, you applied with your children during october (when schools are in session), if they have been enrolled, did you explain the plans you have made to take them out of school in your travel period? have you traveled for any business trip and showed evidence of that? you mentioned you were to meet suppliers, was there any evidence of maybe prior communication with them? my point is simple, it is your responsibility to overwhelm a VO with relevant documentation to support your case. my advice, should you consider it, is to first apply for your GCMS notes to understand your refusal in full before you commit some more money and do bear in mind that when a whole family is making an application, by default, the VO assumes you plan to illegally migrate. so the onus is then on you to convince the VO, beyond any reasonable doubt, that visit is temporary and you shall return to Nigeria. best of luck |
yungreezy:Hi yungreezy, good evening. yes sponsorship takes time. however, if i understand your post correctly, you just got your PR approved and had sent in your passport. if this is the case, do not make the mistake of applying for a visitor visa for your spouse. you can actually get married, inform IRCC and they will make provision for your spouse. you will have to return your passport with the stamped visa of course and they will add your spouse to your application. if your CRS is still not below the one that got you an ITA, in less than 2 months, you both shall have your immigrant visas. until you land at a canadian POE with an immigrant visa, certain modifications can be made. please dont misunderstand what i called a 'mistake'. you can do whatever you like but, as i always say, judge your application yourself before submission. now if a new PR has a visiting spouse, it is very hard to convince a VO that this visit is temporary which is the ground on which visit visas are assessed. also, the funds you showed in your application was for an individual so a VO may worry that you may then experience some settlement difficulties. assess your chances and make a decision. i have a feeling its going to be a good year. best of luck |
sleekier:Dear sleekier, sorry for your refusal. You have to apply for your GCMS to understand this refusal in full and from the VO’s perspective. However, in my opinion, I suspect some errors. Firstly, as I have always advised, whenever an application is for an entire family, the burden is greater on the applicants and the application has to be more detailed and rooted. Secondly, you earn decent money. Noted. And ,between you and your wife, 5m naira. But the money you have available for this trip( which may be interpreted as the budget for the trip) was 20000CAD for you two which is more than 5m naira but what will raise a VOs concern is why you are budgeting your entire savings for this trip. Did you use the letter of explanation to clarify that this was not your intention? Because, it somewhat seems like you were planning to not return. If you decide to reapply sometime, make your nuclear family application. Make sure your proof of funds is very legible and Itemize your money properly. You and your wife can afford a holiday trip with your child to Canada it just has to be carefully presented to a VO and make sense. Also make sure your documents are legit and no previous denials on an issue that hasn’t been addressed. Again, travel history has no play in this refusal as new travelers get visas daily and the VO didn’t even bother to tick it. It was mostly about funding which you have but did not itemize carefully leading the VO to think otherwise. Your GCMS notes will clarify this refusal. Best of luck |
bigcil2:Hi bigcil2, I see you shunned someone who raised a concern about the money you have as balance. A VO may be worried too. You have a business account with a lot of money but this is a business account, the VO will not want you to spend Business money on a leisure trip. Now you have 200k as savings. This is different if you had say a salary account and then transfer money out when salary is paid into a savings account or if you have a business account and pay yourself salary. If you do not separate your money carefully to make it clear to the VO, no matter how much millions you may have, a denial might be imminent on funding grounds. In my opinion and to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge; The budget of your trip should be in your saved money. 1500CAD is obviously too much for someone that has 200k Naira. Include flight and hotel in your entire budget for the trip and itemize what each Money is for. If you have never applied to CIC(now IRCC) before, you do not have a UCI and shouldn’t fill any. If you have applied(approved or denied) you need to track your old application and retrieve the UCI from there. If your old application was approved, the UCI is on the bottom right corner, usually 8 digits. On purpose, get a flight reservation to your destination in Canada but do not pay. You can use any airline website for this. Go to Booking.com or Airbnb for a hotel reservation that cancels free and make sure it’s payment on arrival. Do not pay for anything until a sticker is affixed to your passport. As for the sites to visit, make the VO understand you know what you’re doing and the cost implications. You mentioned that apart from Niagara Falls, the others are together which is false. Niagara Falls is not even anywhere near Toronto. It’s over an hour drive away and will cost money to get to. Ottawa is a completely different city and over an hour flight from Toronto and will set you back at least 150CAD one way. For the aquarium and some sites, there may be entry fees. Have you budgeted for these? A letter of explanation is, at least how I write mine, a detailed yet short letter (not more than 2 pages) written to a VO by an applicant to explicitly address the concerns a VO may have when considering the application. Make use of this letter. It can be very helpful and please don’t make it boring and don’t beg. State facts with documents to back it up. Always remember that the onus is on you to convince a VO. Best of luck |
Menakay:Hi menakay, as we have discussed over and over on this forum about timings, all applications are on first come basis. however, if any verification gets your file stuck, it will take longer. Also, know that the processing time you judge your application with is the one displayed at the time of your submission. Relax, a response will meet you soon. Best of luck |
olayinkamentor:Dear olayinkamentor, i am sorry for your visa refusal. i have had one and i know how sad it can be especially if your intentions are good. in my opinion, the VO was direct and expressed that s/he wasnt satisfied with your financing. the budget for your trip is way too high in relation to your income and this is truly not fair to your circumstance here in Nigeria. lets assume you earn 150k a month and you can save out 50%(75k) monthly. it will take you a whooping 10 months to save the money for this trip. no VO will issue this visa unless there are other sources of money like a business. understand that even though you can save up and pay for this trip, you can not afford it. this will make a VO wonder if you plan to return as you are committing so much to this trip and its all for pleasure. take your time, save some money, invest more and expand your portfolio and you shall have a better and stronger case next time. |
homeboy2015:Dear homeboy2015, sorry for your dilemma. i have noted the suggestions given by helpful people here but my opinion may differ. every single applicant, including your son has to individually qualify for a visa. for instance, your wife can actually get approved but you son denied. your task here is huge. you mentioned your account is not heavily funded but do you have landed properties? the true circumstances of an applicant is what a VO is trained to assess. what are the ties your wife has back home, well, apart from you? does she work? is she socially engaged? is there a verifyable community program she is a key player in? does she have landed properties? does your child school? the invitation is not the issue here; native canadians issue invitations to friends abroad and the high commissions will refuse them visas. also, the funding of this 'fun' activity is not coming from the nuclear family. truly, you dont wholly know the inviting party's full circumstance as the VO would find out and a VO always worries when funding is not contained in the nuclear family. i suggest you take your time with your application and assess it yourself first, unbiased. best of luck on this one, you need it. |
Matanna:hi Matanna, congrats. a suggestion; if you dont have any fixed travel period, purchase an early summer ticket for next year and take your kids to canada wonderland, im sure it will take their breadth away. |
kaffy4tope:hi, if you did a paper application, the only way to know the outcome is when you open your passport. |
HRprof:dear HRprof, this forum is very intuitive and you will be very happy to read it. my suggestion is that if this conference is not in line with your academic qualifications and/or your current job, your application will most likely be refused. an intellectual application always impresses a canadian VO especially when they have the understanding that you are building a career back home. best of luck. |
