Just finding reasons to comment. Well, my take is this, the idea of studying medicine is misconstrued. A medical doctor is well respected not Becos of the money he has but Becos he is like God- has the ability to make u "whole " if u are sick, and this is why they are well respected. But the Nigerian greed mentality has reduced the profession to a money making Avenue and that is why every Nigerian parent wants to train a doctor by all means.
If u're looking for money please go into business dnt study medicine, and at this juncture, I dare to say that a lawyer (SAN) who has reached the peak of his career is richer than a doctor of same standing.

Certainly

SAN will be richer than consultant doctors

AussiePlayboy:
I've come to notice a common misconception about many people, especially the ladies and some guys who dont know better and think that owing a car and paying rent for an accommodation are signs of success.
.
I find it appalling, really appalling. Thankfully, at 23, I bought my first car and moved out of my parents place and a year after, I still totally don't consider myself close to successful. I even feel like there is a lot I am not doing with my life.
I presently work in a top multinational company(outside Africa) and get paid flights and accommodation(even at the moment) in the best hotels in the world, yet I often see it like I have seen it all, and hence, its not true success. I am lucky, like really lucky to experience this at an early age and hence it has helped me understand what matters life.
I have seen so called "big men" loose everything in a flip of a second, I have seen what supposedly rich people go through and I sometimes marvel when I hear phrases like. "He owns a car and affords a 2/3 bedroom flat" so he is successful. Nawa o. My people nawa o.
Flat that one mistake at work or simply low turnovers beyond your control, and there is no difference between you and the guy carrying file on the street looking for job. Or car you have to keep that job to maintain? What about those in business depending on just one main client who they have to kiss their feet to ensure bills are being paid, yet brag. No matter how fine the apartment is, its still a liability to maintain, and you ll be kicked out, along whatever you put in there the moment you stop keeping the landlord quiet.
Also, its even funny how people see car as a luxury. Car is not a luxury. Having a car is just a basic necessity.
Nowadays, I flip through social media, and don't get moved. I just see people faking out their lives, with the temporary illusion of happiness, while I critically thing of the real things that matter. Too many people living hand to mouth, waiting for the next paycheck to maintain that lifestyle. That's not freedom to me. That's not even success

Draw your ears boy and girls.... Having a car with paying for a flat is NOT success. Heck, its not even a luxury.

The AussiePlayboy

Success is d ability to meet your goal so it's individual specific. U made no sense to me at all but I had to neglect bc u have a lot of growing up to do @ just 23.

If my goal is to buy a car n I was able to achieve dt then dts success to me, u better receive sense or shut up already

Education / Re: Kogi State University Medical Students Protest Over Accreditation by jaychubi: 7:48pm On Apr 16, 2018
officialviaj:
I am a kogi state university medical student. I got admitted to study medicine in 2012 and for the past 6years I have been in 300level, we have been hearing stories from both the government and the school, "that we are working on it", "we should read our books". We have stagnated and suffered emotionally. I weep daily!. The last governor of kogi state Governor Idris Wada, instead of upgrading the secondary health facility in the university village(kogi state diagnostic hospital in anyigba) to a teaching hospital he went and started his own pet project (build a new hospital from the scratch) which he didn't complete, it's now an abandoned project. The new Governor of the state, Governor Yahaya Bello set up a committee for accreditation of the college of medicine and for the past 4years he has been in power I tell you my reader no block has been laid, and I don't know if I would graduate in the next 10years. Some medical students have even threaten to commit suicide because of the humiliation and frustration. We are frustrated and our parents are in pains.... Help share this post as much as possible let people know about our plight.

NYSC / Re: Getting A Job After Nysc: How Long Is Too Long? by jaychubi: 6:11pm On Apr 12, 2018
JARUSHUB:
Recently, we got this from our mail.

Hello,

I studied Counselling in school because I didn’t get Accounting and because I had started with ICAN exams before getting admission. I finished with 2:1. I completed ICAN exams recently (can’t get the ACA yet because of work experience requirement). I started with CFA too, passed level 1, I have registered for the 2nd level.

I finished service last year and I quite understandably expected to get a job almost immediately after service. I haven’t been able to get one thus far. So my question, do you think my course of study is working against me? Thanks

You completed your NYSC not long ago, and you’re complaining?

You’re very impatient. Job doesn’t come so fast for 90% of people irrespective of qualifications. I have friends that had first class in accounting (you had 2.1 in Counselling, right?) plus ICAN, and still spent up to a year at home before getting job. That is the reality. It is hardly out of place.

For me, not getting job within 6 months of completing NYSC, irrespective of one’s qualifications, is not yet a bad situation. Even recruitment processes of some companies (all stages of tests, interviews, medicals etc) take up to a year.

Your degrees will not land you job automatically, my brother.

Where did you study Counselling? I hope it is a recognized school. While your course of study (counselling) is not so attractive to employers in this part of the world, the fact that you had 2.1, got ICAN and CFA 1 qualifications is a good remedial strategy.

You did not tell me where you have applied to? What were you doing during your NYSC? Were you throwing your CVs around? How many companies have you applied to? Have you written any company test? If yes, did you pass?

No matter the qualifications one has, job will not come and meet anyone at home. One has to hustle.

I know many companies do not care about your course of study once you have 2.1. Good for you, you have more than 2.1, you also have ICAN qualification and already in stage 2 in CFA. The two issues I sense here are, one, you’re impatient and expected to get job on a silver platter and two, you don't appear to be equipped with right information. It hardly works that way.

If you’re below 26 years, have you applied to PwC, KPMG, Ernst & Young and Akintola Williams Deloitte? These are the Big 4 professional services firms that recruit people like you from time to time. They don’t bother about your course of study once you make 2.1 and you’re below 26 years of age.

Most banks also don’t care about course of study. There are many other firms like that.

You just need to get the right information and probably shed your mindset that your 2.1 will automatically land you job once you finished your NYSC.

My friends with ACA and CFA that you saw did not have that mindset. They loaded themselves with right information. And yes, it’s not so hard getting Accounting/Finance job with zero work experience once you get your strategy right and you can defend your qualifications by passing tests and interviews.

All the best.

SirToby:
Good evening friends. It all started with malaria two weeks ago and i used Lonart, i was relieved for some period and i started feeling feverish again. I ran a test and it confirmed Malaria is still positive, and the doctor prescribed P alaxin, i used it but i started feeling restless and uncomfortable since saturday, i have not been Sleeping well, even in my short sleep i have nightmares. i started using Piriton two days ago but i have not been feeling alright, my mind is so heavy and my heart beats so fast, i can't just sleep. I have tried to calm myself down and my friends also have spoken to me but it has not
been working and i just don't know what to do.

IN ADDITION: I'm a pastor's child and similar thing happened to me last year, i was so sick that i could not sleep for days, i remember i prayed and promised God never to have any intercourse with any woman till i marry if i can be healed and start having a good sleep. But the fact remains i'm not a wayward child and the last time I had sex prior to that prayer was 2015.

But two weeks ago, i was tempted and i could not resist the urge and i had sex with a lady but the sickness has already began prior to the sex but it has not Metamorphosized to sleeplessness and restlessness. I have asked God for forgiveness and i sincerely promise him never to do such again and i'm ready to stand by it this time. I knelt on the alter after Sunday service to make the vow.

But i'm scared maybe God is punishing me for breaking my vow with him the first time and he wants me to confess to my parents that are pastors. Please i need reasonable advise, i'm so scared to sleep whenever i wants to, my eyes are so red as i'm typing now due to lack of sleep. And which medicine can i talk or what can i do to put my mind at rest. Thanks Friends.

Go for HIV test

Bros na you make sense... what makes you feel higher education should cost 250k? Can a civil servant who earn 18k save that in a year? make I ask u a question... of what benefit is your Nigerian citizenship? What has d government offered to you as a person? You are only occupying space! D education isn't free, at least d students have been paying b4... what will be d difference btw State owned school and private schools... if government cannot subsidize her education... there is no reason getting into it... one of d aims of govt sch is to make education affordable.

Higher education should be at least 250k in Nigeria to improve quality of graduates n reduce quantity of graduates. Others shld learn hand work
