I can NEVER resign. I only intend to seek a transfer to our Abuja branch. Branches are 'dead end' careerwise. Many would do almost anything to be in HQ.
Don't go to the branch sir. I worked in a bank and can tell you this for sure. The moment you go back there, the moment your career dies.
You need to be thinking out of the box. Let them go to Abuja. What gives you the impression you can't get a job with better pay in Abuja outside the banking sector?
God has been so good to my family this year and a particular blessing has been giving us sleepless night.
I work with a big organisation here in Lagos and currently earn about N600k. I used to work in the branch since my entry level days 6 years ago until I was able to runz the head office movement.
Ever since I join the HQ two years, my life has been at ease. No weekend duties, no sickening pressures from customers. I have been able to develop my self, complete the professional courses I abandoned and can rest well on weekends/public holidays.
The worklife balance now isn't only the advantage of working at the HQ. The career progression and rapid promotion crowns it all.
My spouse earns a little above N400k and we manage ourselves well. Our combined income isn't that much but we've been able to achieve a lot due to our mutual cooperation. She commits her resources 100% into our home. Some people see me as a "big man" outside, no knowing I am actually enjoying the reward of marrying a good wife.
My wife recently got a job very lucrative job. Salary is about N1.5M monthly. She was on the process for close to a year. You can imagine our joy when she was eventually given an offer. This job is a huge one for us as a family and will make life more sweet.
My pain now is the job is based at Abuja and that means she has to relocate there with our kids. Abuja is not where I can drive to considering the security situation of Nigeria. Also, it won't be wise to fly down every week (I also have hidden phobia for heights ) because of costs and other attendant risks.
I actually want us to live together as a family most especially because of our kids. Some Kids tend to be spoilt when raised almost alone their mothers. As a father, I want to jointly raise them with their mother and also instill discipline in them appropriately.
The only solution on sight is to ask my company for redeployment to a branch at Abuja. This I fear might return me back to "Egypt". I.e days of stunted growth, no promotions. In summary, I am scared of killing my career by myself.
My wife is okay with us visiting each other every month but I am vehemently against it.
Someone please help
I think a lot of people make a mistake thinking that being married means staying with your family 100% of the time. There are times you will be away from your family. This is one of such times. One thing is sure. Regardless of how you see it, you will still end up being with your family. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine. She was however able to work her way back to meet her family and in the process got promoted after a year.
I advise you let the woman follow her mind. Never kill another person's dream because of nothing.
So I have this little challenge of selecting the best Mifi from the aforementioned 3 in terms of reliability, speed and convenience. Most times, I will be working from home at Ikorodu and will want to know the best amongst the 3. Outside Ikorodu, I heard the 3 are OK on the Island which means I can go with either. However, for my stay in Ikorodu (where I will be staying most times), I will want to know the Mifi to go for. Peeps who live in Ikorodu and most times work from home any leads?
Flames000: When it get to a critical level, it will not go off anymore. Thats fro. About 30% oil life and below. Thats when u should realy change ur oil and reset to 100% for the the reading to be accurate once more. Cheers
Hello Nairalanders, I have a question to ask. I want to purchase a 2012 Accord and went for a routine check of the vehicle. In the process, I realized that immediately the engine starts, the dashboard shows "Oil Life 80%". Asides this, every other thing about the vehicle is fine
Hello Seunlijoka, please I cannot seem to access the link. Kindly reshare. Or should I send my WhatsApp number to you as a mail? Or should I drop it here?
dicksonadams: Boss please from your experience what are the common problems with 8th generation
The only con I have noticed (and this depends on the individual) is the front sits which are a bit hard and can cause slight pain on the lower back for some people while driving for long hours.
BarrSly: Same as you brother I am in a state of confusion but I am spreading my choices as I have started looking at the 07/08 Lexus Is250 . God help me make better choice ooo if there’s anything hard in this life it’s the process of choosing a car to buy lol.
I don't think the decision is that difficult to make. Every car is uniquely different and would develop faults uniquely, regardless of the model, grade, year and product.
Once a car can be adequately maintained, then it should pose lesser problems than that which lacks maintenance.
I am going for the Accord. I plan to upgrade from 2008 to 2012 model .
I feel the 2012 is the best among the 8th generation Accord, since it is the most recent and problems from the earlier versions would have been corrected in the 2012 version.
Nkc22: I had to patiently read through all the comments in this thread and mehn, the feeling is indescribable
A big thank you to everyone, like you brought back memories that moved me to tears. You mentioned virtually all the movies that made my childhood memorable and mostly scary. Was it;
Living in bondage? After I watched this movie, my dad was suppose to travel that evening but I cried and begged him not to because I was scared seeing Merit's spirit.
Was it Igodo, After school hours, Blood money, Nneka the pretty serpent, Rattle Snake(I remember when Peter spotted Hahana running like a snake after stealing)
I remember the Battle of Muzanga(Their funny hair cut), Oganigwe, Glamour Girls (I remember one of the men washing his wife pants or so), State of Emergency, Love without Language (Where Sandra's boyfriend was a fighter)... How can I forget Three Witches of Ishawuru, Taboo(Kenneth Okonkwo made this movie so scary for me especially one scene where he was matcheted or so)
My God, the memories is like nothing else.
While going through this thread I was able to get some of these movies. You can find the links below. Although, I couldn't find some that I really wanted like Highway to heaven, Rattlesnake, When the Sunset...Anyways, do have an interesting watch!
BarrSly: I swear we are in the same shoes lol.. I wanted to go for 2010 Camry the money na wa and I’m looking at getting toks not Nigerian used how about yourself when are you looking at getting it? Toks or registered?
I am interested in getting a car soon and after so much research, I narrowed my options to two Sedan vehicles of the same year - The Honda Accord 2008 (Evil Spirit) and Toyota Camry 2008 (Muscle) model.
However, I am biased for one compared to the second.
Based on my readings, I realised Honda is a flashy car, have one of the best aesthetics with her interiors, it runs pretty fast and has a good engine. However, the Camry is not as fast, less aesthetics with her interior but is reliable.
I also got to know that both cars are fuel efficient and have a low build compared to the Big Daddy Camry. While there are many other differences and similarities, I am interested in what the Nigerian users of these two cars have to say.
@Honda Accord users: What have been your experiences using this car? Is the car worth the money? How often do you visit the mechanic? What are the pros and cons of getting the car?
@Toyota Camry users: This car is costlier than the Accord. Is it worth paying the extra penny? What is its performance level? Is it durable? What are the pros and cons of both cars?
@all: I am a first time car user and would want to go for a very good car that can commute me in and around Lagos and maybe outside Lagos once in a while.
NB: If there is a similar thread on this, kindly share so that I can also read through. Most of my research are foreign based, I need a platform where I can hear what Nigerians have to say about these two cars.
princeogbeide1: I haven't seen any honda owner complaining about their car on a stead. Honda owners seem to use their cars much longer than Toyota owners.. this is peculiar with the accord. Check jiji, you will see tons of second hand muscles for sale and you will see only few honda accord so it shows that evil spirit is a better companion with the owner. The i4 08 accord is more powerful and smarter than the i4 muscle with a quicker transmission and better economy Also the V6 08 accord could be a death trap because it is sportier and quicker than V6 muscle.. plus V6 accord has a better economy. Fuel economy is a beauty of Honda products.
Another angle to look at the difference between both cars. It could also be because more car users are using Toyota. However, I appreciate all these info.
Nairaland is indeed a place to get good information.
No regrets with the Accord till date. Performance is fantastic. Fuel consumption is superb. Reliability is great, depends on how you use and maintain the car.
Should you settle for the Honda ensure to use recommended fluids, OEM parts (toks or new) and avoid bad fuel in order to prolong lifespan of its emission components.
Also have a personal scanner handy to scan for fault codes and avoid quack mechanics.
princeogbeide1: You can't compare any honda brand with toyota.. lately toyota discontinued over 12 of its models because of marketing and failure issues but Honda has been doing better in maintaining and creating their brands carefully.
The first batch of muscle was recalled in 2007 and muscle sold very cheap before it was kitted with a reliable breaking system... so you better compare Toyota with Kia, Isuzu and Hyundai which are also reliable. Honda is a brand known for great quality.. Honda started its luxury brand Acura which sold greatly in USA and Europe before Toyota dreamt of Lexus.
Have you seen Toyota speed boat or Toyota motor bike..?? But honda has them all... Toyota is good but Honda is far better that's why you still see 1990 Honda academy, bulldog, 1988 civic etc, roaming the streets and highways with less noise and emissions like it's a recent car. You can hardly find old Toyota in such conditions. Even 2000 model hilux is almost out of sight. Muscle is currently having melting dash and engine oil shortage issues while the honda accord has non of this issues and its equipped with a reliable ball joint.
Go to northern Nigeria, you will see more Honda than Toyota.. toyota is only common in west and south and its till mixed with high volume of Honda brands.
Ball joint, ball joint, ball joint issues...when you maintain your Honda properly, you won't know what is ball joint failure. Honda ball joint is made to fail as a result of normal wear and tear without maintaince. So the design of Its ball joint is Honda's engineering design and not a mistake. Honda has a better handling because of its ball joint design so it needs to be ideally checked from time to time since it wears and it requires replacements over time.
NB: I didn't say toyota is bad, but in fair comparisons and generally reviews, honda is far better and more reliable after running thousands of miles.
Lastly, in terms of respects, evil spirit attracts more respect than the overhyped muscle..
Wow! Just when I thought someone else had said it all. You shared more light on the topic from another angle. I think I have also made up my mind.
My resolve: All cars will surely develop faults. It depends on how you keep and maintain them. Asides the ball joint, everything else has almost been positive about the Honda.
princeogbeide1: Bro you are fuc*king correct... Honda too get level. They ship more Toyota to Africa than Honda because Honda has a better styling and last longer than toyota shit.. honda makes advanced body styling which is appreciated for decades
How about performance and reliability? Anything to say on those? What matters at the end of the day is the vehicle's performance and reliability.
