Kelvin30286063:Different strokes for different folks. I wish my dogs were less aggressive and dont intimidate innocent passersby . |
cedar3:A carbon copy! the only difference is that he loves food too much unlike Zeus. |
uboma:Yes ooo. Thanks |
Meet the sons of Zeus, Hercules and Perseus at 5 weeks old.
|
DemiVonKrone:They are great! 5weeks old today. |
loveson200:Singleton! wow. I can just imagine how u will be waiting expecting more. The puppy looks great. congratulations. |
kenneyor:It's depends on why you want to switch really. If I were you and can afford it and if the dog is not complaining, I will stick to the commercial food. It's way more convenient and you are sure of the composition. All the best. |
cedar3:Hmmm. I know how you feel. I have been there twice but nevertheless it's not over until it's over. Meanwhile, you said her tummy is small do you try to feel the tummy when she is on her back? (be careful not to press hard though). It's possible she is carrying one or 2 puppies. |
Isis and I really have a strong bond she never snaps at me when I want to pick the puppies unlike Ira. I can even dislodge a puppy while sucking and she will just be looking like we are co parents. By day 14, they were due for deworming and I was doing that for the first time as well(for puppies their age). I had seen the vet do it like twice so I tried it. It was successful! Puppies at 1week old.

Since we have just 2 puppies, I decided to do baby friendly. I will not be supplementing their milk. This time around, I decided to use these puppies to test my skills. So I did the cropping of the ears myself @ day 13(next time, I will do it earlier). I got my six year old to help me hold the puppies in place while I did the knotting using tiny rubber rings just like before.(boy! we were all shaking, mama, daughter and puppy). The puppies cried non stop for over 30mins. By this time, I had brought Isis in. She was really confused as she could not pacify them. She did everything but they cried nonstop. There I was standing helpless. I now decided to pick one. Before I knew it, I was rocking it and singing 'rock a bye baby.'...believe it or not the puppy stopped crying and even went to sleep. The look on Isis face was priceless(she must have wished she had hands like mine). She did not hesitate to let me pick the second one and same... was soon fast asleep as the first. And that was how the ear cropping episode ended. (phew) |
I was actually expecting 2 puppies but got 3! Unfortunately the 2nd boy did not survive found him dead and cold by morning. I was forming the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh. but I could not hold back my tears later in church. Everywhere was pretty clean with this birth probably because there were only 3 puppies. I didn't have to do much cleaning. It's amazing how Isis just stepped into her motherly role. The way she envelopes them is amazing. There are times you won't even know they are there. Picture taken on day 3.

So by day 65, hubby woke me up saying he thinks Isis was in labour. I was really sleepy as I had slept late and had no particular plans for the morning since I was not going to vote as my voters card was not transfered. I remember jumping out of bed immediately. When I went out, Isis was running around disoriented. for the record, I have never experienced dog's birth like this. She had time to come jump on me then ran off looking for a corner to dig. She eventually went to the place we prepared for her and stayed there. Not quite long the first puppy came. Oh that sweet sweet cry of a newborn puppy. It's a boy! . Then another boy and another boy. The second boy was not so strong while the 3rd boy was the strongest.

uboma:I can imagine. take heart abeg. |
uboma:This shocked me to my bones. Care to share what happened? It's really sad and heartbreaking. |
uboma:Hi there! it's been a while. How are Cindy and Asher doing? Thanks for the wish. |
wizi44:Hmmm. Sorry for the long silence. It's because I have issues with my phone. I don't see the pictures I snap and when I used another camera, I could not upload, the size was too large. I am not a fan of long posts without picture but I need to break the silence... So after the first day we noticed Isis could be carrying, the next day, she was back to her normal self barking all the time (just like Zeus, they are the annoying duo). Isis and Zeus give us (excluding me though cos I can sleep for Africa lol) and the neighbours sleepless nights unless we lock Zeus up in his cage. I would wake up to the sound of the dogs barking praying and wishing not to hear Isis voice but she always disappointed me. Anytime I left the house and came back, I would be checking to see if there were puppies around her of anything unusual but nothing. (the disappointment no be for here) One would have thought I should be used to this by now but that's not the case. I spent most of my time at home with her. Days 61,62,63,64 came and Isis was her gallant old self. Then on day 65 in the morning, Hubby came to tell me it's possible Isis is in labour. I still smile as I remember the feeling. I guess it's similar to how grandmothers and possibly fathers feel at such times. |
mihkehl:Your post is so heart warming. Thanks for it. I love those small breeds too. Will surely get one before I am old and grey(lol) and when I have enough room in my house. Getting one is not a bad idea but you will have to train them(it) since you are barely home. You can use the weekends to bond. I know this amazing lhasa, her name is Sheila. Oh dear she behaves just like a human child and is super friendly. I always use this expression when I see her human, `I need me some Sheila in my life`. She is an energy ball, fun loving and sweet. She lives indoors and is potty trained as well. All the best. |
hi there! Remember I mentioned I caught Isis and Zeus kissing... well, we decided to keep her restricted. at day 40, I didnt notice any changes, no bulging tummy, no milk in, etc so I decided probably zeus shot blanks or the timing was not right. We let her go to mingle and play rough with the other 2. It was busines as usual until day 60 when we noticed black purge in places where Isis usually went. We found her weak and lethargic. she could barely walk and was throwing up I thougt she had parvo but did not see blood in her stool. When I went to my garden, I noticed the chicken manure I kept the day before was not as it was. I knew immediately that was what she ate. So I decided to pet and palpate her and that was when I felt a movement. I pressed on her nipples, dry but the third had milk yayyyyy!!! |
congratulations! so glad it all went down well. please post pictures asap. |
franky156:Have a safe delivery major! |
franky156:Yep! thanks. All the best. keep us posted. |
congrats! is there any reason why u didn't post the full pictures of the dog? |
donshaize:Will do. Soon |
Owoado:Thanks so much! |
OtyandTheFangs:thanks for the accolade. I will soon update the thread. |
Babyileso:Ofcourse they can. it depends on how u manage and train them. I have seen where even dogs and cats live in harmony. |
cedar3:Well Isis came on heat about 2 wks ago at 1yr 2months. it was a shock to us since we were expecting her to come on at about 18months just like her mama. We had decided we would not mate if she comes on before she clocks 18months. we were observing her as she became very territorial and would not let Zeus anywhere near her. She was always chancing and bullying him that we had to put his food far away from her. You can imagine our shock when we woke up at 6am one morning, opened the front door and no dog came to welcome us. I was scared something had happened to them. On turning around, there they were tied (this should be like 5 days into the heat). it was still dark so I could not take pictures and we had to go do our morning devotion. After the incident, we decided to let nature take its course. the hostility of Isis toward Zeus increased and we never saw them tied again. If this mating results in pregnancy fine for me (it's been long since I heard the cries of puppies) and if she does not get pregnant, my hubby will be very glad so it's a win win situation. |
Floryangel8:It's not eba even though she will gladly eat if I serve her. it's homemade food. Corn, gnuts, and eggs combo. |
gman55:Will do dear! thanks for following.Meanwhile, how is your dog? has she littered again? It will be nice if you can update us. |
cedar3:I didn't even know of the Funke Akindele twin birth story thanks to you I do now. Such great testimony! Unfortunately, it's day 64 today and Ira does not look preg at all. Her breasts are even shrinking (this thing don tire me sef) Meanwhile about Isis and Zeus Hmmmm. gist dey oooo |
I know it's been like forever since I updated. well, it's because I have been busy doing other things . where do I start from... remember how Ira did not whelp the other time? Well, when she came on heat we decided to do everything right by the book. We did a swab test and the test came back positive for some disease. the treatment was to be done 2 to 3 days before mating and it was in form of injection for 3 days. Her first injection was on a Sunday and the vet won't be open so I was forced to learn how to administer the injection myself. Mating was successful as we had ties on both occasions. we used the same male we have been using since inception. (if it's not broken why change it). I didn't wanna update till she whelps cos I didn't want my village people to jinx it. But I was moved to do otherwise today cos I just want to vent and document. it's day 61 of mating today and milk is here but her tummy is not bulging (dejavu) but I am optimistic there are puppies in there. Her energy level has been pretty high all through even though she was chained through out. Appetite, top notch

space9880:very true. that way u won't need to skip u just mate once she comes on. My Isis is 1 year now and no sign of heat even as she is around a male and a female on heat. Maybe she is following in her mama's footsteps. |
