Ocn96:From what I read on google, there is no known reason why some bitches eat their pups but it's could be that the pups have some defects which we humans are not aware of. and to save everyone the trouble, the bitch eats them up. however, the muzzle suggestion is not bad but make sure u clean the genitals of the puppies every now and then to stimulate peeing and pooing since the muzzle may prevent the mama from doing that. |
McMayor:Thanks so much. |
My dog just came on heat and her anti rabies is due. is it ok to give her the anti rabies vaccine 7 days before mating? Please I need your views like yesterday. |
such a sad incident. I also have an older dog that does not love to share even food he hates. your experience has taught me to still keep them apart when it's feeding time. wishing double G quickest recovery. |
McMayor:thank you so much! |
congratulations! can you please post pictures of the milk replacer you use and the cost? |
what are the great lessons please? did I miss anything? |

Floryangel8:I really don't know much about diamond kibbles. the girls look good though. If u can afford the diamond, I would advise you revert to it. |
sureprince01:No puppies came. Zeus and Isis are saying hi. thanks for reading. |
Benbobola:We still don't know and it has not been happening either cos we don't release him at night. About Ira, there won't be puppies for sure. her mammary glands have since retracted. Thanks for checking. |
Quantum800:I thought this only applies to female dogs. Let me ask google. |
Quantum800:Age wise, Pharoah is ripe for breeding unless you have other reasons. |
tziz:It's good to know she is not sick. You will need a lot of patience though. My puppy which I bred had the same issue after her litter mates were taken so I know exactly how u are feeling. She stopped eating the same food she was fighting for when her litter mates were around. I struggled with her like that for about 2 weeks because I didn't want to abandon the bag of Arion I had for her and also because I knew that was the best food for her not human food. She eventually picked up and even started eating more than I could keep up with. For her brother in a different location, he also had the same issue u are experiencing. The dog would eat rice and other human food but not his kibbles. What they did was mix the kibbles and human food and over time, the dog accepted the kibbles alone. If you sell this daimond now, you may need to buy it soon again. |
tziz:Soak the dry food forming a mash before adding the milk that way she won't consume the milk without the kibbles. |
[quote author=JerryUS post=69772555]hello brothers Abeg mak una help me I don tire for my dog. she was mated last 5wks ago and going 6weks Now and I can't spot signs of pregnancy. I only notice that her stomach added a lil but I can't feel any thing when I touch t. I also notice her changes in picking and lying down on cool places. and a clear mucus discharge this morning but she licks it up. I'm so worried because I paid heavily for the stud service. the doctor run a blood test and said the test reads undefined and he wld run another one. pls those who have female cauc what's your experience at first pregnancy? [/quote My cauc's first and second pregnancies were both successful and were very visible by 6 weeks. Due to the success, I assumed it was a given that all her pregnancies will be successful. This isn't the case with her third. I still can't tell what happened as I didn't notice any miscarriage. But it's 5 months now and no puppies (yes, I am still counting, lol) Hmmm I really hope there are puppies in there but also prepare your mind for the worse. |
shegzynet:So you have a better picture but you are saving it for those who will contact you? unwise decision. |

It's rather unfortunate people had to die due to ignorance. I hope this will not give yankari negative publicity cos the place is simply amazing. I once saw a lion just strutting along the tarred road within the reserve. it's was a surreal out of body experience. I remember being scared to my bones even as we were in a saloon car. We stopped for a while so did the lion. It was a curious as we were . We eventually left it there after taking some pictures (not selfies) from within the car. The elephants were very graceful and magnificent. you could see them in abundance unlike the lions. They seemed harmless but we were weary of them all along. |
oluomoadebayo:Very lovely! I wonder what went wrong. I even thought they were stillborn. |
Eveezy:@eveezy, even yours? Something is really wrong now. could it be the raining season? I hope and pray your own whelps sha she still get small time. Meanwhile, which is better? To whelp and lose all puppies or not to whelp at all? I can't seem to wrap my head around it. |
it's day 76 or so today and I don't think we will be having any puppies. Ira's blood test came in and her PCV is 35%. When I heard PCV initially, I thought the doc was referring to my PVC before treatment and I was like ' PVC even in the vet clinic?'. Anyway PCV means Packed cell volume. There are many causes of low PCV (please google up) and I cant pin point why my dog has/had it. Anyway, I want to get a second opinion cos the vet looked over ambitious. It's all about the money for him, it seems. Ira is pretty fine. Still hyper active. No discharge, shedding heavily. |
vinscent:thanks for sharing! I also thought giving all those antibiotics and all was not necessary since my dog has littered twice hassle free. but now I know those 2 times was luck. I will try and decipher this your shorthand and know what to do going forward. |
vinscent:some people sha! I wonder why this golden information is not meant for 'the public'. abi u don't wish 'the public' well? Or is there any consultation fee? Meanwhile thanks to all those who have shared very valuable information on this nairaland even without being asked. |
countsparrow:Honestly, I don't know. It's day 74 today and no sign of labour. like I said in my other thread, she looks less pregnant everyday. Dont know if it was a phantom pregnancy or the puppies were absorbed. But there is no sign of bleeding, discharge or sickness. she has been gallant all through. |
it's day 73 today and still no show. In fact as the days go by, she gets less pregnant. Her mammary glands are shrinking, less milk, plenty shedding, great appetite etc. We were at the vet's today and after palpating, he declared there were no puppies so we can't even say if she just had a phantom pregnancy or the litter was absorbed. I still don't have closure cos the vet did not state conclusively as he did not have the facilities (X-ray, ultrasound) to further confirm his claims. He even worsened the situation by telling me about his friend that had a similar issue and the dog littered on day 79. He however asked us to run a test to see if she has parasites or has low protein level. the result will be out tomorrow. Instead of me mourning my loss I am secretly praying for a miracle. Meanwhile, Ira has not been down for a day. She has been Everly energetic, no discharge, no foul smell. She has just been on and about. |
@gman55 please feel free to advertise your puppies here for the folks that have been waiting for my litter. it seems we ain't having any this season. |
