PoliticsKogi Election Fallout: Faleke Resumes Legislative Duties. Vangurd by jbbaba(op): 4:55pm On Dec 08, 2015
December 08, 2015 at 4:49 pm in News

By Emman Ovuakporie and Johnbosco Agbakwuru

ABUJA-BARELY 72hours after the conclusion of the supplementary governorship election in Kogi state, the deputy governorship aspirant to the Late Abubakar Audu, Abiodun Faleke who refused to deputise Yahaya Bello who succeeded late Audu in the election, on Tuesday, showed up in the House of Representatives, where he took part in the legislative business of the day.
Faleke who rejected being declared governor-elect of Kogi State after the death of his principal, Prince Audu currently represents Ikeja Federal Constituency in the 8th House of Representatives where he also chairs the Committee on Customs and Excise.
The towering lawmaker stormed the green chamber spotting a white flowing ‘Agbada’ and a hand-made red cap, amid cheers from his colleagues in the House as he approached the chair where he held a brief chat with Speaker Yakubu Dogara before resuming to take his seat.
Faleke who rejected his re-nomination as deputy governorship candidate to the eventual winner and governor-elect, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has since gone to court asking the Judiciary to declare him governor-elect instead of Yahaya Bello whose name the All Progressives Congress (APC) forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as subtitle to the late Prince Audu.
In the suit, Faleke argues that both the INEC and the APC erred by, first, declaring the election inconclusive when the circumstances leading to cancellation of votes in most of the affected polling units bothered on over-voting and refusal to use card reader which amounted to violation of the electoral Act of 2010.
He is also faulting APC’s decision to substitute late Audu with Yahaya Bello when he (Faleke) who participated in all the stages of the election with the late candidate should have been the replacement as against Yahaya Bello who did not participate in all the stages of the election apart from the primaries where he came second.
His camp also accused Yahaya Bello of anti party activities during the inconclusive poll, saying that the latter worked against the interest of the APC which accounted for why the party even lost his own polling booth in Okene.
However, efforts to get views of lawyers concerning the legal implication of the development could not yield results as at press time.

PoliticsFinally, President Buhari Talks About The December Deadline To End Boko Haram At by jbbaba(op): 4:59am On Dec 08, 2015
The President has said the December 31st deadline he gave the military to destroy Boko Haram can be altered if unplanned situations arises.

Buhari said this through his Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2015 annual conference of the Chief of Army Staff in Dutse, Jigawa state today December 7th.

Let me emphasize that the timeframe given should serve as a guide and if exigencies of multiple operations across the country requires modification, the Federal Government will not hesitate to do so in order to address the flash points that are emerging in parts of the country. The Nigerian Army must, therefore, develop strategies to address the current challenges facing the country and ensure total elimination of the insurgents.

We would recall that on August 13th, President Buhari while swearing in the new service chiefs, charged them to defeat the insurgents before the end of the year.

Family10 Compliments Your Husband Needs To Hear by jbbaba(op): 4:44am On Dec 08, 2015
The things we say have a big impact on our marriages. Men sometimes get the reputation for being the less communicative sex, but that doesn’t mean they don’t thrive on affirming words from their wives. Whether or not your husband is begging for verbal affection, here are ten compliments that your husband needs to hear.
1. I’m so glad I married you

Men need to feel secure in marriage, and the fastest way to let your man know he’s still the one is to tell him outright. This is a great compliment because it can come completely out of the blue, without him having to do anything to earn it. Spontaneous compliments feel genuine and sincere.

2. I love how you provide for our family

Men hold themselves to a high standard when it comes to providing, and they need you to acknowledge their efforts. Let your husband know that he doesn’t have to make millions to still make you happy.

3. I’m so proud of you

You’ll get far in marriage being your husband’s greatest cheerleader. In a world that continuously knocks him down, be the one to always lift him up.

4. You’re such a great daddy

If you have kids, praise your husband for his involvement with the family. Modern society often tells dads that they come second to mom, so let him know he’s a valuable asset to your family.

5. You’re so hot

Your husband needs to know you love the way he looks, even after a few years and a few extra pounds. Many men send and receive love through touch and physical intimacy, so complimenting his body is one of the fastest ways to show him love in a way he understands.

6. Thanks for fixing the broken dryer

Whenever your husband plays Mr. Fix-It around the house, compliment his efforts. He needs to feel capable, especially when he’s taking care of you.

7. Thanks for the help around the house

Helping out can be a little scary for the man of the house. Chances are that you have your own way of doing things and he may be afraid of messing up your system. Thank him sincerely when he helps out, regardless of whether he folds the sheets the “right” way.

8. You can always make me laugh

Let your man know that he lightens up your day and brings positive energy into your household. Even if your husband isn’t the ha-ha funny type, you can still compliment his stellar smile.

9. You’re so strong

The next time your husband lifts a heavy load of laundry, bat your eyelashes a little and compliment his Superman-like strength, even if you could have done the task yourself. Husbands need to know they’re good for something, and they certainly need to know they’re good for you.

10. I love spending time with you

We all get caught up in the business of everyday life, so let your spouse know that you still love to simply hangout with him. After all, you’ll be his best friend and constant companion forever.

PoliticsNigerian Soldiers Are Unsung Heroes — Lai Mohammed by jbbaba(op): 7:42pm On Dec 06, 2015
The Minister of Information Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed has showered praises on Nigerian soldiers for their gallant fight and bravery in dislodging the elements of Boko Haram, particularly in Bama and Konduga Local Government Areas of Borno state, saying that the December deadline will be realistic.
The Minister gave the commendation, Sunday, during an official visit to Bama and Konduga Local Government Councils of Borno State.
Mohammed who led a team of information reporters to the visit said, he was humbled by the high scale of destruction and damages left behind in the areas by the insurgents.
He commended the Nigerian army for making impact in rooting out the insurgents and making more efforts in recapturing the remaining areas before the December deadline.
‘‘They are very happy about what we are doing and are very committed to restoring peace in North-East and unity of this country. We went to Bama and Konduga and saw firsthand, the scale of damage and destruction that the Boko Haram terrorists left behind.
‘‘It  humbled many of us, and we all came back very sober. I hope that with this visit, my colleagues in the media will show more restraint, more understanding in reporting the efforts being made in the war against terrorism. We are also confident that by today, we are much more informed about the corruption war,’’ he said.
On the visit to the IDP camp in Bama, where the team saw the victims of the war, old people, women and kids, the Minister lamented the impact of the war on the victims, and promised that government would do everything possible to rehabilitate them soon.

PoliticsIsrael To Assist In Reintegrating Niger Delta Ex-agitators by jbbaba(op): 7:34pm On Dec 06, 2015
By Emmanuel Elebeke
Israel has offered to assist in the integration of the Niger Delta Amnesty beneficiaries.
The Israeli Ambassador in Nigeria, Mr. Uriel Palti stated this in Abuja during a courtesy call on the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd) in Abuja.
In a statement from the Media and Communications Consultant to the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Owei Lakemfa, Palti said Isreal was ready to partner with Nigeria in two areas of using agriculture as a mechanism in conflict resolution in the Niger Delta and vocational training for youths who require training.
The Ambassador also disclosed the possibility of Israel exploring the possibility of carrying out some joint projects with the Presidential Amnesty Office.
The ambassador who hailed the Presidential Amnesty Programme initiative, also extended an official invitation for General Boroh to visit Israel.
In his response, Gen. Boroh used the occasion to intimate the ambassador on the various empowerment programmes of the Amnesty Office and successes achieved in the on-going re-integration Phase of the Amnesty Programme, which include the empowerment of 2,500 delegates (ex-agitators) and the full employment of 400 others.
According to him, the Amnesty Office had on December 4, 2015, engaged 78 vendors to empower an additional 1,225 Amnesty beneficiaries by the end of the month.
He said this empowerment will lead to the exit of the beneficiaries from the Amnesty Programme which would save the Government N955,500,000 annually in stipend payments. Additionally, he said those trained and empowered will create employment opportunities in the Niger Delta.
General Boroh said the Amnesty Programme had in the last five weeks visited the governors of Edo, Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States and set up Amnesty offices in those states.
