Best ways To Prepare For JAMB UTME and Gain Admission this year- Key To success Tips.

For one to succeed in any task, he has to know what he is to do and then work towards achieving it. Success in any endeavour comes only through hard work; there is no shortcut to genuine success. The same goes for examination.

In this write up, I‘ll share with you useful success tips that will guide you before, during and after your JAMB UTME.

Firstly, Prepare ahead of Time. Time management and organization is an inevitable step towards exam success. Most of us will always wish we had started revision earlier and that we had more time. If the thought of an examination makes you jittery, then you are probably not fully prepared. Of course everybody will be a bit nervous about an important examination, but there is no reason why you should fall apart and fail to do yourself justice if you know what to expect before you go in. There are ways of using the days, weeks and months available before the exam more wisely.

Make a timetable that includes all your subjects, and think about combining the subjects you find difficult with those that come more naturally to you, so you have something to look forward to. Use your JAMB syllabus to make sure you have covered everything and be sure to reserve in your time table at least two weeks prior to the exam for your revision.

Do the registration yourself, If Possible: According to JAMB, “REGISTRATION FOR THE UNIFIED TERTIARY MATRICULATION EXAMINATION (UTME) IS ONLINE (VIA INTERNET) AND ALL APPLICANTS ARE ADVISED TO REGISTER BY THEMSELVES”.

It is advised that you make yourself available at the CBT centre in which you are registering for the UTME. This will go a long way in checkmating any form of error that might be made by whoever that is doing the registration for you. It will also help those that may be regarded as computer illiterates to get acquainted with the computer system, and this is very important as the exam is now fully conducted through the Computer Based mode.

It is very unfortunate that in the modern world, there are still many adult Nigerians that take the desktop monitor for the computer and of course others that are too scared to even touch the computer system as if it will explode at their touch.

Every JAMBites should be able to at least have a personal e-mail address he/she operates him/ herself. If you don’t, ask your friends to teach you how to get one. Go to the Cyber café with those friends of yours that uses the internet. If you can operate your mobile phone without going through any operation manual or asking anyone to help you operate your phone then you can as well operate a computer system. You only need a little guidance.

Thoroughly Go through the JAMB Brochure: Make sure you carefully read the JAMB brochure before doing the online registration. This will help you in making a perfect choice of the courses you are best suited for. Most JAMBites has never opened a JAMB brochure and this is why they always end up applying for the few popular courses without knowledge of other less popular courses which they may be better suited for.

The JAMB Registrar Professor D. Ojerinde during a presentation at an examinations summit in Abuja last year pointed out that one of the few reasons why many students fail to gain admission is the fact that they often opt for certain courses like Medicine, Pharmacy, Architecture, Science Laboratory Technology, Business Administration, Law, Theatre Arts for admission due to their marketability.

Last year alone over 11,000 candidates applied to study Medicine in the University of Nigeria while only about 150 were admitted via the primary admission list. Now, we know that a good number of candidates that apply for medicine are considered very brilliant in their respective schools, so it ends up being a big fight and a survival of the fittest where most candidates with high scores still end up not admitted. These wrong choices may also be traced to the dearth of guidance and counselling in our high schools.

Make Use of Past Question Papers: Get hold of and study regularly past JAMB exams question papers to get a feel of what’s required and to see how well you could cope with the previous exams. The best preparation is working through past papers and looking at your syllabus to avoid any surprises.

In my time, I used the one time success series and they were very helpful. You can get any of the numerous past JAMB question paper series in the bookshops. It will do you a lot good.

Minimize The Use of Social networks: It is advisable to reduce to the bare minimum your use of social network sites and tools when you are preparing for exams as they KILL an unimaginable amount of your study time. If you are the type that can’t help always getting online these social networks, try as much as you can to strike a balance between the time you spend on these social networks and your study time.
Invest most of your time on your studies rather than chatting away your time on 2go. A word is enough for the wise.

Adhere to instructions: During the exam, carefully read the instructions on your computer all the way through and make sure you know exactly what you have to do before you start. When you are ready to start, read each question more than once to make sure it really does say what you think it says. If you encounter any difficulty with your computer, call the attention of the CBT centre operator or the JAMB supervisor.

Don’t Hope on “Runs”: One serious problem plaguing the Nigeria’s Education system is wide spread exam malpractice which seems to have eaten deep into the university matriculation examination organized by JAMB. Because of the way some of the beneficiaries of this misconduct go scot free and the way these “runs” are publicly advertised, more and more JAMBites are tempted to join the cheating game. But mind you, apart from the long term effects of exam malpractice, most candidates that involve in such act end up disappointed when the result is released and they realised they were duped.

Take note, anybody that encourages you to subscribe to any illegal business is only after your money. They are majorly scammers!

Don’t hope or depend on expo or any other form of JAMB runs to be successful in your JAMB exam. Just go for the exam well prepared and with confidence, you‘ll surely sail through.

With God All Things are Possible: At the end of the exam, don’t trouble yourself trying to verify the correctness of the answers you supplied during the exam as it will do you no good.
Always put God first in anything you do. Be in touch with him when you prepare for your exams, during the exam, after the exam and always. You‘ll surely not regret you did.

Other Recommendations: The Use of English is the only subject that is compulsory for every candidate that writes JAMB and a good performance in the Use of English will surely influence ones overall score. Therefore, make sure you read the recommended text, “Last Days At Forcados School” by A. H. Mohammed as questions will be asked from it.

I also recommend “Catch-Up English Language for SSCE/UME” by Prof. Peter Okebukola et al. as a perfect guide and companion for all JAMBites.

The management of National Youth Service Corps wishes to inform prospective Batch A 2016 corps members of the following;

1.Hard-to-rectify mistakes during registration. Please take note and try to avoid them during registration:

a. Registration by proxy: affected PCM can not register at camp because the biometrics is not his/hers

b. Mixed up registration: some cyber cafe operators have the habit of registering more than one persons at a time in one computer by opening 2 or more tabs on the same browser. This causes mix-up in the PCMs information which is hard to rectify. We advise you to sit with the person registering you and make sure he doesn't register another person at same time he registers u. When you want go somewhere before he finishes with u, tell him to log you out before he starts with somebody.

c. Don't allow cafe operator to use his email address for you. If you don't have email, let him create one for you and make sure he gives you the details...email address and the password. Keep them safe because you need them

d. For married women, make sure you go with your marital documents, choose married online and upload them during registration. In the column to input your spouse surname, make sure you put the correct surname you are using after marriage.

e. For sick person, make sure you indicate it and the type of sickness, also provide all other details and upload medical report

f. For military and SSS, make sure you indicate and provide all other relevant info and upload the required documents.

g. If you are a foreign trained graduate, make sure you read the registration requirements by clicking here and upload all required documents. Try to log into your account time to time for information asking you to update some of your documents. Failure to do so may lead you not mobilized eventually.

The performance statistics of candidates that participated in the 2015 May/June WASSCE Organised by WAEC was made available yesterday.

According to the details, south-east has emerged tops in the performance chart of candidates who obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics as Abia State topped the chart with 33,762 of its 52,801 candidates getting five credits and above. Anambra State came second with 28, 379 out of 46, 385 candidates. While Abia State scored 63.94 per cent, Anambra got 61.18 per cent out of 100 per cent.

It was learnt that Edo State came third with 38, 052 of its 62, 327 candidates getting five credits and above. While Rivers and Imo states came fourth and fifth respectively.

Lagos with 68, 173 out of 141, 963 candidates came sixth.

Bayelsa, Delta, Enugu and Ebonyi states came seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th positions.

Ekiti State placed 11th with 8,954 out of its 21, 333 candidates.

Kaduna, Ondo, Abuja, Kogi, Benue, Akwa Ibom, and Kwara states came 12th, 13th, 14, 15th and 16th respectively.

Ogun State with 75,994 candidates occupied the 19th position.

In the 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25 positions are Cross River, Taraba, Plateau, Nassarawa, Kano and Borno states respectively.

Osun state Niger and Adamawa states were placed in the 26th, 27th and 28th positions respectively.

Yobe state came last with just 646 candidates obtaining five credits and above including English.

Seven other northern states took rear positions as follows: They are Zamfara (36th), Jigawa (35th), Gombe (34th), Katsina (33rd), Kebbi (32nd) Bauchi (31st) and Sokoto (30th).

The National Youth Service #Corps has warned that the idea of participating in National service an attending Law School at the same time is no longer acceptable.

This was part of the #resolutions reached at the 2016 Annual management conference of the scheme.

It was noted that the NYSC act demands uninterrupted service year. Therefore, prospective corps members have to choose between going to law school or participating in the Scheme instead of combining the two.

Brief Description:

“The Last Days at Forcados High School” by A.H. Mohammed tells the story of Jimi Solade last days in senior secondary school. A combination of African family values and western influence on children.

Characters:
1. Jimi Solade:

He is the main character in the novel. He is intelligent and very good in sports. He is also the health prefect, athletic club captain and best footballer. He won prizes such as the best Chemistry student and the best athlete.

He is a member of Tiger house. He won the 100m race and also won a scholarship to study Electrical Engineering.

2. Wole Solade:

He is the brother of Jimi Solade. He behaved in a very bad manner. He engaged in the sale and use of hard drugs. His father disliked him because of his bad behavior.

He dropped out of school because of his bad behaviour. He broke into the school laboratory and stole the new microscope and other stuff.

3. Mrs Solade:

A soft spoken woman and mother of Jimi, Wole and Femi Solade. She died of ovarian cancer. She took side with Wole when her husband made bad remarks about him.

4. Mr Solade:

Father of Femi, Wole and Jimi.

5. Efua Coker:

A tall, slender girl with large eyes and long eyelashes and a masculine voice. She went further to study medicine. She was a member of a group EGG whose aim was to cater for women and children.

Her classmates nicknamed her ‘’The Witch’’. Jimi Solade nicknamed her ‘’baby doll’’. She was a close friend of Miss Agbenenovi; a youth corper posted to Forcados High School.

She wrote a controversial letter to Miss Novi. She stood up for Jimi when everyone taught he masterminded the stealing of the new microscope and other stuff. She was expelled from St. Catherine’s.

6. Nene Ekpo:

A plump girl with short plaits and a round gentle face. A good friend of Jimi, Ansa and Efua. She leaked Efua’s controversial letter to Jimi.

Her father was a pastor. Her youngest brother attended Mother’s Joy Nursery School. She was the singing lead in the cultural dance drama “oluronbi”. She went further to study Accountancy.

7. Ansa:

A good friend of Jimi and Nene. He likes painting and shared this interest with Efua. He desired to study Architecture.

He accommodated Jimi when Wole invited his bad mannered friends to Mr Solade home. He was not happy at the end of first term because he failed his exams and dreaded what his mother would say. He went further to study Architecture.

8. Mr Mallum:

A small, wiry man with an odd accent. He is the principal of Forcados High School.

9. Jolly Stephen:

A big boy, an arts student. He liked wearing chains on his trousers and trainers instead of sandals. He made photocopies of a letter Efua wrote to Miss Novi.

10. Seyi Lawal:

He is the Head Boy of Forcados High School.

11. Risikat:

Mrs Solade housemaid. She informed Jimi that his mum fainted.

12. Mama Silifat:

She sold puff-puff and akara outside the school. She was fond of Jimi and called him Akinjimi and omo mi.

13. The Rhymers:

A group of five boys. They composed Hip-Hop music.

14. Mr Izaegbegbe:

He is Ansa’s father.

15. Icheen Igbo:

He took the second position in the 100m race.

16. Femi Solade:

The eldest brother of Jimi Solade.

17. Mr Edet:

He taught Chemistry at Forcados High School.

18. Samu:

He owned an ice cream bar.

19. Teacher Bade:

The students nicknamed him “cane”.

20. Miss Coker:

The music teacher at Forcados High School.

21. Mrs Alli:

Efua’s aunt.

22. Ada:

The Head Girl at Forcados High School.

23. Mrs Tanimoro:

The guidance counsellor at Forcados High School.
