@OP was that your childhood experience?I mean the stuff you wrote about parents?I know someone who had same experience and it did affect not just self-esteem but other aspects of his life.But he is over it now and doing well.
But not matter what i think another experience can change this nature.

I think they don't even read nor listen(watch).They just jump into conclusion.You are telling a Nigerian youth what you know(involved in), before you even finish they interrupt and tell you the wrong stuffs with all confidence.
Now,in this case the OP did not write anything that warranted the bashing he or she is getting.
