Politics‘EFCC Working To Extradite Obanikoro, Mu’azu’ by jcflex(op): 7:40pm On Apr 27, 2016
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is working with the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United Kingdom’s National Crimes Commission to extradite those who fled the country following ongoing investigations.

A top source at the anti-graft agency said the agency was trying to extradite a former Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro, an ex-National Chairman of the People Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, among others.

“We are working with FBI and NCA and they are eager to assist us. I can assure you that those people will be brought back to Nigeria for interrogation,” the source said.

The EFCC had while investigating the alleged fraud relating to the diversion of $2.1bn meant for prosecution of the war against Boko Haram, discovered that the total anti-insurgency funds diverted by various personalities and agencies was over $15bn.

On the allegations against the Code of Conduct Chairman, Justice Danladi Umar, the source explained that the judge had not been totally exonerated.

Umar was alleged to have demanded a N10m bribe from Mr. Rasheed Taiwo, a former customs officer.

According to the source, the content of EFCC’s letter to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on the matter is clear.

The top source , who confided in The PUNCH , said, “Facts are being distorted by those who are afraid of their shadow. The letter, dated March 5, 2015, clearly explains that there was no sufficient evidence at that time to prosecute the judge. It is not an exoneration. The man (who wrote the letter) says there is no sufficient evidence. The issue can come up again.”

That's the funny thing about it... and ignorant people here will be hailing him and even talking about him being presidency material. Lols.

He can start campaigning for regional govt from this moment if he truly believes in it and Is not just looking for relevance like Ben Bruce.

Look @ Britain and the recent 'brexit' campaign or even the referendum (scottish independence) agitation started years ago! that's why I laugh @ biafran agitators asking for referendum by encouraging civil disobedience and forming ipob when they could form a political party and whithin 20-25years they could have enough political clout to force a referendum.

I'll still pick the current structure over regional govt because states like lagos don't néed to be bugged down by states like osun, ekiti.
Every state has comparative advantage but if a governor refuses to key into it, wetin concern others.

I end with 'imagine fayose as governor of the south west region' lmaooo.
Bros pls stop that kind imagination.

I see Ikorodu from my place. Praying it's not of the houses to go.
.

Sir, there is no point for you to fear, as a learned person, you can visit the Lagos state ministry of works, to check for the route of the bridge, all necessary tins for this particular bridge is already on ground since tinubu second tenure. and I remember julius Berger was mobilized to site then, at ikorudu end, but FG withholding lagos state allocation then due to tinubu/obj issue cripple that move.

at your end in ajah, I think the road is to link Langbasa road- Ajah xcept if it has been redesign to follow another route. cus I can see from the article that demolition of houses has reduce from over 3000 to less than 1000.
PoliticsAppeal Court Judge, Two Other Judges Received Millions From Rickey Tarfa by jcflex(op): 7:45am On Apr 25, 2016
Agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have discovered more damning evidence that a well-known lawyer, Rickey Tarfa, currently undergoing trial for alleged bribery to a judge, transferred huge sums of money to several other judges, including a female member of the Court of Appeal, Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, who reportedly received N8 million from Mr. Tarfa. Justice Abba-Aji played a key role in election petition cases in the hotly contested states of Delta and Akwa Ibom after the 2015 general elections.

Justice Abba-Aji was one of the appellate justices who gave the controversial verdict that election card readers were not legitimate ways of determining votes. Some judicial watchers believe the ruling gave a leeway to election riggers in both states.

In 2009 and 2010, SaharaReporters reported that Justice Abba-Aji was one of the justices who accepted millions of naira in inducement to uphold the validity of the election of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua. Mr. Yar’Adua himself conceded that the election had significant irregularities.

EFCC investigators also found that Mr. Tarfa transferred funds to a bank account belonging to the Chief Judge of Nigeria, Ibrahim Auta. A source at the anti-corruption agency disclosed that Mr. Tarfa made a one-time deposit of N500, 000 into the Chief Judge’s account. “He is yet to explain why he paid the money to the Chief Judge,” the source told our correspondent.

Mr. Tarfa is currently facing trial for allegedly paying a bribe of N225, 000 into the bank account of Justice Mohammed Yunusa in January 2014. The EFCC also accuses Mr. Tarfa of receiving the sum of $500,000 from one of his clients in 2006 ostensibly to bribe “court and EFCC officials.”

Investigators have also alleged that Mr. Tarfa and four other Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) “donated” N7 million to launch a book written in honor of Justice Auta, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. According to our source, the EFCC has found an additional transfer of funds made by Mr. Tarfa to Justice Auta.

In his statement of defense, Mr. Tarfa had claimed that some of the transfers were for the hiring of two retired judges, Mustapha Abdullahi, and Oponu-Wusu. However, a lawyer told SaharaReporters that Nigeria’s legal practice rules prohibit retired judges working in law chambers.

Justice Yunusa, the first to be named in Mr. Tarfa’s bribery saga, has been transferred from the Federal High Court in Lagos to Enugu after he rejected his transfer to Yobe State. Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, who is also allegedly ensnared in the bribery scandal, serves in the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The embattled Mr. Tarfa claimed that he paid money to Justice Nganjiwa because the judge was part of Mr. Tarfa’s law firm before he was appointed the bench in 2012. However, the lawyer’s defense crumbled when EFCC investigators discovered that part of the N5 million the lawyer had paid into Justice Nganjiwa’s account was later routed to Justice Yunusa.

Some legal practitioners are enraged that the judges named in Mr. Tarfa’s widening bribery scandal continue to preside over cases despite the commencement of the trial of Mr. Tarfa and another lawyer at the center of the bribery. “They should at least be suspended until the investigations and trials are concluded,” said an Abuja-based lawyer.

The lawyer added that it was odd that Mr. Tarfa continues to sit as a member of the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee. The body is responsible for awarding the title of Senior Advocates of Nigeria to legal practitioners. The lawyer recalled that a lawyer, Kunle Kalejaiye, who was caught illicitly communicating with a judge in Osun State, was disrobed, adding that Justice Thomas Naron, who was involved, was removed.

“It is truly sad that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mahmud Mohammed, has not acted expeditiously to suspend the judges accused of involvement in the bribery perpetrated by Rickey Tarfa and Joseph Nwobike, both of them Senior Advocates of Nigeria,” said the lawyer.

PoliticsHouse Member, Zakari Muhammed, Who Masterminded Power Outage During Saraki Trial by jcflex(op): 5:04am On Apr 15, 2016
Each time embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki appears in court in connection with his corruption trial, a retinue of legislative backers from the Senate and House of Representatives trails him. One of his staunchest lackeys is Zakari Muhammed, a member of the House of Representatives who has had longstanding political ties to M. Saraki in a relationship that has advanced the political career of Mr Muhammed.

Mr. Muhammed loyalty to the senator is so fanatical that a security source told SaharaReporters that the House member arranged the power outage that forced the Code of Conduct Tribunal to adjourn Mr. Saraki’s trial from April 6 to April 18 by conniving with officials of the tribunal.

Mohammed is also responsible for mobilizing and renting fake protesters camping out at the CCT throughout the duration of each trial.

SaharaReporters was reliably informed that Mr. Muhammed masterminded the power outage by bribing technicians who made sure the tribunal was thrown into darkness on the second as federal witness reeled out embarrassing evidence about how Saraki looted Kwara state during his tenure as governor.

However, in interviews with various sources in Abuja and Kwara State, the member of the House was portrayed as a servile
acolyte of former Governor Bukola Saraki and as the senator’s first choice for dirty jobs.

In Baruten local government area, where Mr. Muhammed hails from, one prominent politician stated that the rep’s blind loyalty to Mr. Saraki was responsible for the former’s meteoric rise within the Saraki political camp. “Since 2013, he has been touted as a possible governorship candidate, if the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, decides that power should be zoned to Kwara North senatorial district,

” said the source. He added that the former governor was “more comfortable with Hon. Zakari Muhammed than any other likely candidates from that district, like Senator Ahmed Mohammed, Senator Sha'aba Lafiagi or Hon. Ahman Pategi.”

A source in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, alleged that Mr. Saraki suspended Senator Ahmed Mohammed from the APC for one year because Mr. Muhammed reported that the suspended senator did not support Zakari Muhammed's re-election in 2015.

The source disclosed that Mr. Saraki does not trust Senator Ahmed Muhammed, a former Permanent Secretary and Secretary of the State Government, “because
Senator Muhammed is a self-made man who is recognized as the political and community leader of the Batonu-speaking people of Kwara State.

By contrast, Mr. Saraki’s favoritism for Zakari Muhammed began after the Senate President became a governor in 2003. He hired Mr. Muhammed, a former member of staff of Radio Kwara and a reporter at Kwara Television, a special assistant. “It was then that his fierce loyalty to then Governor Bukola Saraki began to manifest,” a source in Ilorin said. “Zakari Muhammed would cut down other members of the Saraki group; report on his competitors and gladly put himself forward for the dirtiest
jobs for the leader, Dr. Bukola Saraki,” the source, formerly close to Senator Saraki, disclosed.

Another source suggested that Mr. Muhammed’s poor background and his ability to make quick money shaped his slavish loyalty to Mr. Saraki.

Several sources in Ilorin and Abuja revealed that, when Mr. Muhammed was made Kwara State Commissioner for Energy, he awarded contracts worth hundreds of millions of naira to a firm owned by Olaolu Saraki, a younger brother to the then governor, to supply borehole rigs and electric transformers. Our sources claimed that even though not a single rig or transformer was supplied, Mr. Muhammed re-awarded the contract to the same Olaolu Saraki in another multi-million naira frenzy. “The payments for the second contract went down the drain of Olaolu Saraki's pocket.

The Kwara state Ministry of Energy was eventually burnt down, and moved to the Ibrahim Abacha Center on Fate Road, Ilorin,” a senior civil servant in Ilorin alleged.

As an apparent reward for his loyalty, Zakari Muhammed received the ticket to run for the House of Representatives. A source in Abuja claimed that Mr. Saraki detailed his lackey to work closely with former Speaker Aminu Tambuwal in the 7th National Assembly.
“He is now one of the members of the inner caucus of Speaker Yakubu Dogara. His job is to keep Dr. Bukola Saraki informed about the goings-on in the House of Reps, and to ensure that Dogara remains loyal to the Senate President,” said the source.

In Baruten local government area, one source stated that Mr. Muhammed works with the Emir of Okuta to regularly import traditional juju men from neighboring Republic of Benin to undertake “spiritual exercises for Senate President Bukola Saraki.”

The source added, “Even his [Mr. Muhammed’s] wife tells people that she is a prayer warrior for Senator Saraki.”

Politics#panamapapers: EFCC, Interpol To Go After Saraki, Mark, Others by jcflex(op): 6:39am On Apr 10, 2016
The Federal Government has opened a file on all Nigerians whose names have been mentioned in the Panama Papers as operating offshore accounts in notorious tax havens.

Some of the individuals listed in the papers so far are the current Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and his predecessor, David Mark.

Others listed include Africa’s richest man, Mr. Aliko Dangote; his cousin, Saayu Dantata, and a former Minister of Defence, Lt.Gen Theophilus Danjuma (retd.)
It was learnt that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had been gathering reports from local and international media as well as the responses being given by those named.

It was also learnt that the EFCC would then carry out its independent investigation and involve INTERPOL if necessary.

German newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung, had last Sunday released the Panama Papers, the biggest leak in the history of data journalism, publishing online 11.5 million documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, which showed how some prominent people across the world criminally hid money using anonymous shell corporations across the world.

The Panamanian law firm, regarded as one of the world’s most secretive companies, according to the documents, has helped clients launder money, dodge sanctions and evade tax.

Already, the Nigerians involved have all denied complicity.

In an exclusive report by online medium,
Premium Times , it was alleged that about four assets belonging to the Saraki family, which included Girol Properties Ltd., Sandon Development Limited, and Landfield International Developments Ltd., were tucked away in secret offshore territories.

For instance, the report stated that Girol Properties was registered on behalf of Toyin by Fonsecca on August 25, 2004, in the British Virgin Island, a year after her husband became the Governor of Kwara State. But the assets were allegedly not part of the ones declared by the Senate President or Toyin when Saraki became governor and after he was sworn in as the nation’s number three citizen.
Mark

Similarly, at least eight offshore companies in the British Virgin Island have been linked to Senator Mark which he allegedly operated while holding public office, a criminal offence according to Nigerian laws.

An impeccable source told our correspondent that the Federal Government was studying the body language of the international community and looking at how other countries were handling investigations.

The source, who pleaded anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said, “We are studying the matter closely. In fact, we have opened a file and all reports are being gathered.

“We want all the names to be released first before launching full investigations. The issue is a tricky one. After preliminary investigations, we will seek advice from the Office of the Attorney General because investigations of such nature will need foreign collaboration.”

King Salman said in a statement that the bridge would boost commerce between the two allied countries.

He made the announcement during the second day of his visit to the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah al-Sisi said the bridge would be named after the Saudi king. President Sisi is a close ally of the Saudi government.

A Red Sea bridge linking the two countries has been proposed several times before but has failed to become a reality.

King Salman is currently on a five-day visit to Egypt, where he is expected to announce more trade and co-operation agreements.

The king was given an honorary doctorate by Cairo University on Thursday and the Order of the Nile medal on Friday.

"Today, we launch a new chapter on the road of Arab joint action," President Sisi said on Friday.

PoliticsPanamapapers And CCT Revelations: Senate President Saraki Must Go Now - MURIC by jcflex(op): 1:09pm On Apr 07, 2016
A muslim group, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has described the continued stay in office of Dr. Olusola Saraki as the Senate President as a threat to the integrity of the Senate. In a statement signed by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the group said the Saraki's trial for the false declaration of assets, which began at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on 5 ‎April 2016, has thrown up staggering disclosures.

These MURIC observed, have been worsened by the mention of Saraki's name in the recent Panama Papers Leaks, which identified the Senate President as one of the owners hidden assets in safe tax havens abroad. For this, the group said, something needs to be done and urgently, too.

"The integrity of Senate is at stake here, and something needs to be done and very urgently too," urged MURIC.

The group drew attention to the fact that over 60 senators accompanied Saraki to the CCT on his first day of appearance, something that was repeated during other appearances. While not opposed to the legislators decision to show solidarity to Saraki, the group expressed dissatisfaction with the waste of legislative time and tax-payers’ money that arises from the abandonment of their duties.

MURIC also reckoned that Saraki's numerous attempts to ensure that the trial did not take off suggested that he has skeletons in his closet.

"The recent revelations during court proceedings where staggering amounts of money were alleged to have been surreptitiously deposited in bank accounts or siphoned outside this country by the Senate President through his agents also call for caution, concern, and sober reflection.

"The fact that huge sums were reportedly split into smaller amounts and paid fifty (50) times into the same bank account on a single day is quite worrisome. 'Somebody somewhere knew that the source of the money he intended to deposit in a bank account was illegal. Someone somewhere wanted to avoid detection.

"Somebody somewhere knew that he could be detected if the whole amount was paid in bulk and at a go. Somebody somewhere has been a smart Alec," MURIC reckoned.

Similarly, the group asked if Senators could claim not to know that the person mentioned in connection with the alleged misdemeanours is not the Senate President. While acknowledging that there are people of integrity in the Senate, MURIC urged that those in the category should not allow their names to be sullied by the public, which will perceive them as being of the same stock with the accused.

"MURIC, therefore, calls on Senate to do the needful. The Nigerian public is disenchanted with a legislature that cannot satisfy all righteousness. A legislative arm which condones stinking corruption at the leadership level can never be in tandem with Nigeria’s new elixir for anti-corruption," the group said

The group argued that senators will only be considered as friends of the people if they sanitise the system by removing Saraki, who is emblematic of ‘monkey dey work, baboon dey chop’ syndrome, which has made life difficult for the people.

"Workers’ salary cannot take them home even on the day they receive it.

" Some states are yet to pay the N18,000 minimum wage. Some states also owe as much as three months salary arrears.

"Our graduates of ten years ago are still roaming the streets.

" There is hunger and starvation in the land. The average Nigerian lives on less than one dollar ($1) per day. Our per capita income is less than $300. More than 70 million Nigerians are poor.

"How then can the masses stomach reports of a single person depositing between N600,000 and N900,000 fifty times in a single day?

"This wide gap between the rich and the poor is nothing short of social, economic injustice.

" It is responsible for the rise in violent crime, particularly armed robbery," the group concluded.

Nairaland GeneralPanama Paper; Iceland PM Resigns amidst massive protest by jcflex(op):
Iceland’s prime minister became the first casualty of the global revelations on offshore companies as he resigned on Tuesday.
In a day of high drama in Reykjavik,Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson first tried to hang on to his office by seeking the dissolution of parliament.

But after Iceland’s president refused to grant the request, Mr Gunnlaugsson decided to step down as prime minister but carry on as the head of his Progressive party. Sigurdur Ingi Johansson, the current minister of fisheries and agriculture, will become prime minister.

But it remained unclear how other political parties in Iceland would react and early elections could still be called.
The Nordic island of 320,000 people has been shaken by revelations that the prime minister once owned an offshore company, now controlled by his wife. The scandal brought up to 22,000 Icelanders on to the streets of Reykjavik on Monday evening in one of the biggest protests ever seen in Iceland.

Mr Gunnlaugsson leads a two-party coalition government between his Progressive party and the Independence group of finance minister Bjarni Benediktsson. Mr Benediktsson, who has himself admitted to once owning part of an offshore company, has refused to give Mr Gunnlaugsson his support, admitting that the government may not survive the revelations disclosed by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

Mr Gunnlaugsson wrote on Facebook on Tuesday that if the Independence party declined to back him he would “break up parliament and call for early elections”. Already on Monday, councillors from his own Progressive party in Akureyri, Iceland’s second-largest town, called for Mr Gunnlaugsson to step down.

The centre-right prime minister continued to insist that neither he nor his wife had done anything illegal and argued that his government had helped advance Iceland.

But although Iceland’s economy has recovered strongly from the shocks of its banking system collapsing in 2008, the country’s population remain bitterly divided politically and socially.

The two government parties combined enjoyed less support than the anti-establishment Pirate party, according to the last polls before the revelations emerged from documents leaked from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca.

“People are boiling with anger here,” said Stefan Olafsson, a professor in sociology at the University of Iceland.

Mr Gunnlaugsson is facing a no-confidence vote in parliament on Thursday, which he would lose if the Independence party refused to back him.

Mr Gunnlaugsson came to power promising to make the “vultures” — as he called the creditors of the failed banks — pay and use the money to reduce the burdens of Icelanders’ mortgages.

But, according to the ICIJ documents, Wintris, the company that is now solely owned by his wife, was in turn a creditor of the failed banks, exposing the prime minister to sharp criticism and claims of a conflict of interest.

PoliticsEkitigate: Army Fires Momoh, Ex-spokesman, Others by jcflex(op): 7:57am On Apr 04, 2016
The Nigerian Army Council has retired two senior officers, Brig.-Gen. Aliyu Momoh, who was indicted in the conduct of the 2015 elections in Ekiti State; the former spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Olajide Laleye, and other officers.

It was learnt on Sunday that the retirement of the senior officers was in connection with the recommendations of the panel set up by the Army authorities to look into allegations of professional misconduct against military personnel in the conduct of the June 14, 2014 governorship poll in Ekiti State and the 2015 general elections.

The panel was also directed to investigate the roles played by the military officers who participated in the August, 2014 governorship election in Osun State.

After the results of the Ekiti governorship election was released, where the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, was declared the winner, there were allegations that the Army personnel deployed in the state, led by Momoh, played active roles in an alleged rigging of the poll.

An officer of the Nigerian Army, Capt. Sagir Koli, who participated in the supervision of the poll, had leaked an audio recording of a meeting, featuring Fayose, Momoh, former Minister of State for Defence, Musliu Obanikoro; former Minister of Police Affairs, Mr. Jelili Adesiyan; and the PDP governorship candidate in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, among others, where the alleged rigging was hatched.

The individuals had stridently denied the rigging allegations.

The former Director, Army Public Relations, Laleye, who later became the Commander, 4th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, addressed the press on the controversy over the secondary school certificate of the then presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

He had said the Army could not find the results of the West African School Certificate Examination of Buhari, who was Nigeria’s military Head of State between January 1, 1984 and August, 1985.

Buhari, who was contesting the presidential election as the candidate of the APC, had claimed, while submitting his nomination forms to the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2014, that his WASCE result was in the custody of the Army.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, confirmed that “Gen. Momoh and others have been retired from the Army”.

The Army spokesman did not give further details of the retirement.

Investigation, however, revealed that the Army council met in February to consider the recommendations of the panel, set up by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, to investigate allegations of professional misconduct against its personnel in the last elections.

The Board of Inquiry, led by the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj. Gen. Adeniyi Oyebade, indicted some officers and recommended various degrees of sanctions for them in a report submitted to the Army chief on January 11, 2016.

The Oyebade-led panel recommended the compulsory retirement of two officers from the Army, three others for loss of command and one for prosecution for receiving financial gratification.

The panel recommended 15 officers to be put on the watch list and nine officers for investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Also, the panel said ‘‘six officers should face an audit panel and 62 officers (mostly of the rank of Major and below) should be given Letters of Displeasure and to appear before their respective GOCs for counselling.’’

Oyebade had said 23 officers, over 100 soldiers and 62 civilians appeared before the panel which was constituted on October 20, 2015 “to investigate the alleged unprofessional and unethical conduct of some Nigerian Army personnel in Ekiti and Osun states’ governorship election in 2014 as well as in any other state in Nigeria, where other allegations of misconduct were made during the 2015 general elections”.

Part of the committee’s terms of reference include “to review the involvement of the Nigerian Army formations/units and its personnel in elections and other duties in aid of civil authority”.

The Army authorities had said the investigation was designed “to prevent future unprofessional conduct by officers and men in the performance of their constitutional roles while strengthening Nigerian Army’s support to democratic values and structures”.

PoliticsBreaking: Saraki Loses Bid To Quash Charges Against Him At CCT by jcflex(op): 11:57am On Mar 24, 2016
The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has lost his bid to quash the charges against him before the Code of Conduct Bureau.

This followed a ruling on Thursday by the CCT dismissing Saraki’s application to quash the charges.

He was accused of failure to fully disclose his assets when he was the governor of Kwara State.

More details soon on this news website.

http://theeagleonline.com.ng/breaking-news-saraki-loses-bid-to-quash-charges-against-him-at-cct/

Embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki trial will commence officially before the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja after the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal; Justice Danlami Umar struck out an application by his counsel challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal.

Saraki through his lawyer, Kanu Agabi had filed a motion seeking to quash corruption charges relating to false declaration of assets preferred against him. Mr. Agabi in challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal repackaged some of the issues the Supreme Court had already decided upon. The defense counsel argued that the failure of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to invite Saraki to confront him with the breaches and noncompliance in his assets declaration forms had affected the validity of the charges and thereby faulted the action of the Bureau in approaching the tribunal.

The motion which was strongly opposed by the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs was described as unfounded, frivolous, absurd and a clear case of abuse of court process, Mr. Jacobs, therefore, asked the court to dismiss the motion.

While throwing out the application in his ruling the Chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar said that the case is within the purview of the tribunal to hear and, therefore, declared that the tribunal was ready to go on with the trial.

Saraki was accompanied to the tribunal today by 80 lawyers with 10 Senior Advocate of Nigeria defending him at the trial.

The tribunal judge stated in his ruling that the case will be heard on its merit starting from April 5th 2015.

HealthRe: Photo Of Two Babies Sharing One Incubator At A General Hospital In Lagos by jcflex(m): 8:08am On Mar 17, 2016
Quakertellicus1:
In 2013, OAUTH's budget was $11 MILLION. In the same period , the budget for Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston was $750 billion.

In my opinion, the problem is that it is very difficult to adequately fund healthcare in Nigeria. A hospital in Nigeria cannot fund itself adequately from hospital fees, government funding is falling because Government has too many hospitals to fund. and there is the corruption.

Recently, State House hospital got more money than an average government run teaching hospital. While it was wrong....even if State House clinic had been funded at an amount less than that of the government hospital...it won;t be enough.

The only solution is to raise hospital fees, raise taxes to fund the hospitals better, and make the hospital public private. Oil prices have fallen, and even then, funding was still difficult.

Modified: Cost of an incubator:900-1800us dollars

Cost of twenty incubators: 18,000- 36000 us dollars

Cost in naira: 7.2MILLION naira.(http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/baby-incubator-price.html)
I salute you sir.

raise hospital bill, raise taxes.
and above all PPP. that is the best way for us to enjoy all this basic amenities.

Mind you, this issue is not only happening in the health sector, same apply to Education, Power etc.

for us as a nigeria to enjoy all this thing, we have to pay the price.

My problem with we nigerians is that, we are not ready to pay any price for anything, yet we want to enjoy the same thing which other people are paying heavily for, where is that done.

recently power sector came to mind, we complain BRF increase tariff, bla bla bla, now if Gov want to borrow to fund infrastructure, we will took to the street and social media again shouting they want to borrow to mortage our future and our children children future.

Nigerians we are set of complicated people in this world.

what now baffle me most is that this same nigerians travel out, and pay x10 in other country to enjoy this same service, but back home the street will be full of protest.

PoliticsSaraki: Plot To Scuttle Trial Expose - Saharareporter by jcflex(op): 11:59pm On Mar 13, 2016
An investigation by SaharaReporters has exposed the officials of Nigeria’s Ministry of Justice who collaborated with lawyers representing Senate President Bukola Saraki to obtain a controversial adjournment by filing a motion challenging the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to try the senator.
Bukola Saraki
At a session of CCT yesterday, Mr. Saraki’s lead lawyer, Kanu Agabi, obtained a weeklong adjournment by claiming that he had filed a motion on March 4, 2016, contesting the tribunal’s jurisdiction.

However, several officials of the Ministry of Justice, as well as a staff member of the CCT, told SaharaReporters that Mr. Agabi’s purported motion was a carefully orchestrated scam to scuttle the Senate President’s trial. “The so-called motion Agabi talked about was never served on the tribunal. And as such the lead prosecutor [to the tribunal] was never made aware of the motion,” a lawyer with the Ministry of Justice declared. He added: “The whole thing was a ruse, and it was calculated to ridicule the judicial process and scuttle the Senate President's trial.”

After a report by SaharaReporters exposed the fact that the tribunal’s secretary was also not aware of Mr. Agabi’s so-called motion, an investigation by the Federal Government found that Mr. Saraki and his lead lawyer colluded with the Solicitor-General of the Federation and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Taiwo Abidogun, as well as the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mohammed Sa'idu Diri, to hide the motion secretly filed at the Ministry of Justice. The judicial officials colluded with Mr. Saraki and his lawyers to hide the motion from the tribunal and the lead prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs.

A highly placed security source told SaharaReporters that investigators had obtained records of phone conversations between Mr. Saraki and Mr. Abidogun discussing strategies for scuttling the corruption case against the senator, who for eight years was the governor of Kwara State. Part of the said conversation centered on the need to hide the motion from the tribunal. The investigator disclosed that Mr. Saraki used two phone numbers, 0802 454 4666 and 0810 451 2566, as he engaged in several conversations with Mr. Abidogun, whose phone number is 0803 316 4271.

Our source revealed that Mr. Abidogun claimed that he had informed the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danlami Umar, that a motion challenging the CCT’s jurisdiction had been filed and served on his tribunal. Justice Umar was observing the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia at the time.

Our investigation revealed that, shortly after the deal was struck, Mr. Abidogun called Mr. Jacobs to a meeting and asked the prosecutor to “cooperate,” asserting that the Ministry of Justice had decided to bring an end to Mr. Saraki’s trial.

Our security source claimed that once Mr. Abidogun and Mr. Diri arranged to fraudulently thwart Mr. Saraki’s trial, they assured the senator that the case was as good as “finished.” That assurance explained why Mr. Saraki was upbeat when he arrived at the tribunal yesterday.

Another lawyer at the Ministry of Justice told SaharaReporters that it was obvious that Mr. Saraki’s lawyers had connived with a few top officials of the ministry to thwart the case because Abubakar Malami, SAN the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation had minuted on the motion and instructed the DPP to respond to the motion at least 48 hours before he departed to London for a conference. “Justice Umar ought to have thrown ought the motion and commenced with the trial since [Mr. Agabi’s] motion was improperly filed,” said the lawyer. Instead of dismissing the motion, Justice Umar said he would hear the motion next Friday before proceeding with the trial.

When SaharaReporters contacted the Solicitor General, he feigned ignorance about the issues. At first, he claimed that Mr. Agabi’s motion was not served on him but on the Ministry of Justice. He also indicated that the Attorney General was traveling. Asked why, as Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, he did not know that something was amiss with the case, he answered that he simply did not know.

When our correspondent asked if he had ever been in contact with Senator Saraki about the issue, he claimed he had never met or spoken to Mr. Saraki, a claim that is at odds with what investigators told SaharaReporters.

This website had revealed that Mr. Saraki’s recruited his new lead lawyer, Mr. Agabi, because he had hired Justice Umar to work at his law practice in Calabar when the judge was a fledging lawyer. Mr. Agabi, a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had also recruited Mr. Jacobs to work with him during his tenure in the cabinet.

PoliticsSaraki Bribes Judicial Reporters Ahead Of Corruption Trial - Sahara Reporters by jcflex(op): 7:44am On Mar 07, 2016
With his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal scheduled for Friday, March 11, 2016, Senate President Bukola Saraki’s aides have given bribes to judiciary numerous reporters based in Abuja in order to shape the reporting of the trial, two reliable sources have confirmed to SaharaReporters.

An undercover investigator for SaharaReporters was present when Mr. Saraki’s aides met with Judiciary reporters inside an Abuja garden called Nelson Nuek Gardens, and handed each of the reporters the sum of N50,000. The garden is located in the Central Business District of Abuja, quite close to the International Conference Center.

Our major source, who was present at the parley, disclosed that all the judiciary reporters covering Mr. Saraki's case attended the meeting where bribes were handed out.

Our two sources disclosed that Chuks Okocha, a special assistant to the Senate President, distributed Mr. Saraki’s cash largesse to the reporters. At the meeting, the senator’s aides struck a deal with the reporters to have only one of the friendly reporters write a report of the trial which would then be syndicated among all the reporters. It was agreed that each reporter would merely retouch the syndicated report and send it to their medium.

Before his appointment as Mr. Saraki’s aide, Mr. Okocha had worked for Thisday newspaper group, owned by Nduka Obaigbena.

One of our sources revealed that Mr. Okocha warned the reporters that the Senate President’s office would not tolerate any negative reports by the reporters who collected the bribe.Saraki's spokesperson Yusuf Olaniyonu was being awaited when our investigator left the meeting.

Senator Saraki is being prosecuted for alleged false declaration of assets. All his attempts to use political contacts and appellate courts to scuttle his trial failed. Last week, he unveiled a new legal team led by a former Attorney General of Nigeria, Kanu Agabi, who once supervised the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danlami Umar, and who while as a minister of justice recruited Rotimi Jacobs, the chief prosecutor against Mr. Saraki.
