Politics / Edo Assembly Hails Buhari Over Release Of 21 Chibok Girls by jchima14: 6:42pm On Oct 18, 2016

BENIN—Edo State House of Assembly, yesterday, commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the recent release of the 21 Chibok girls held by the Boko Haram sect, urging Nigerians to be patient with the current administration as it was capable of finding solutions to the problems confronting the nation.

The House urged the Federal Government not to be deterred by criticisms and focus on how to secure the release of the girls still with the Boko Haram sect, saying that Nigerians will soon recognise all the current administration was doing to make Nigeria great again.

In a letter of commendation by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Justin Okonoboh, the House rejoiced with the families of the freed girls, saying that tribute must be paid to the military and Nigerians, who have kept faith with their prayers during the long period the girls were in captivity.

Meanwhile, the House, during plenary, considered the Bill for the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Edo State before it.

Also, report on the non-inclusion in salary voucher was presented by Nosa Okunbor, who represents Orhionmwon East constituency.

He said that he effected legislative action on the report when he was Chairman, Committee on Transport before he was made to head the House Oil and Gas Committee.

Politics / When It Comes To The Spiritual Side Of Aso Villa, The Devil Is In The Details By by jchima14: 9:12pm On Oct 17, 2016

An article titled The Spiritual Side of Aso Villa by former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati, was published nationwide on October 14, 2016. In his opinion, Abati stated that in addition to what that the ordinary eye could see, Nigerians are governed by malevolent forces.

The Danger of a Single Story

In 2009 the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie gave a famous TED talk called “The Danger of a Single Story.” It was about what happens when complex human beings and situations are reduced to a single narrative; such as explaining away politics in a multiethnic, multi-religious developing country like Nigeria as witchcraft. When we hear the same story over and over again, it becomes the only story we ever believe. All of us, men, women, children, old, young, educated, illiterate, rich and poor are impressionable and vulnerable in the face of a single story. Therefore, I shall attempt to approach this rejoinder by showing that there may be alternative explanations for the strange things that are going on in Aso Villa and that sticking to the single story of witchcraft only feeds into a tendency that many Nigerians have for explaining difficult questions through a supernatural prism.

Why are Nigerians dying?

In his article, Abati makes reference to the frequent cases of deaths among high office holders and members of their families. For instance, while in office, the president under whom Abati served lost a dear uncle. Meanwhile, his wife was severally hospitalized abroad. Also, his predecessor died in office after a protracted illness, while the predecessor of that one sadly lost his wife too.

On the surface, this political history appears to corroborate the assertion that there are unexplained forces at play in the corridors of power. However, when examined more critically, the frequent cases of death in high places are in keeping with the general experience of the non-political Nigerian public. It is on record that Nigeria has one of the world’s highest mortality rates. The mortality rate, or death rate, is a measure of the number of deaths in a particular population per unit of time. Another useful indicator is a statistical measure of the average time a person is expected to live, based on the year of their birth and their sex. This is called the life expectancy, and Nigeria has one of the lowest rates of life expectancy in the world.

Mortality rates and life expectancy are also used when comparing nations, as indicators of human development. For instance, in Nigeria, the mortality rate is 13 per 1000 people, compared with 9 in Ghana, 8 in the Netherlands, and 7 in China. Likewise, the total life expectancy in Nigeria is 53 years, compared with 61 in Ghana, in 76 in China and 81 in the Netherlands.

In Nigeria, the commonest causes of death are Malaria (20% of all deaths), bleeding during pregnancy or labor, asphyxiation during childbirth, being an infant, having cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, and road-traffic accidents. Right now there is a famine in the North-East, as well as an epidemic of polio. Nigeria is only one of three countries on earth where polio remains out of control. However, all of these causes of death are preventable with good health systems.

Lifestyles of the rich and famous

The combination of unhealthy eating habits, sedentary lifestyles and lack of active exercise by many Nigerians, causes certain medical conditions known as diseases of lifestyle. These include heart, liver and kidney diseases. Among the elite, having a round figure or big belly is considered to be evidence of good living. Whereas, the truth is that accumulation of fat around the waistline, otherwise known as truncal obesity, is a proven precursor to heart attacks and the onset of deadly liver diseases.

Leisure malls are springing up in our major cities. On the one hand, this is an indicator of a growing middle class- but getting richer also means there is an epidemiological transition from predominantly infectious diseases like malaria to chronic diseases like atherosclerosis, diabetes, and cancer. What do Nigerians consider to be good food? Middle-class Nigerian diets are often high in salt, saturated fatty acids and red meat. Besides, who has ever seen a vegan or vegetarian restaurant in Nigeria?

Last year, it was reported that Nigerians are the second highest consumers of Champagne in the world after France. Wines and spirits contain alcohol, which is a proven precursor of liver damage. I should know about liver disease – my grandfather, who died before I was born, was described as being yellow in the eyes and skin. This yellowness is called jaundice and is a major feature of the liver disease. While rich Nigerians buy expensive bottles of imported Gin & Whisky, poor people can only afford the less refined and more toxic versions, such as the local Burukutu. If they should die suddenly, their deaths are likely to be attributed to supernatural causes, and not a chronic liver disease.

What about active exercise? If a Nigerian is seen jogging along the street, it is assumed he or she is elite. A gym membership in Nigeria is considered an elite privilege, which the man on the street cannot afford. Meanwhile, fully equipped gyms are the norm on every street in Europe, just like churches are common on every street in Nigeria. Our sedentary lifestyles also mean we value air conditioned homes, offices, and cars, plus servile lower class staff who carry our bags and fetch everything for us. This is especially true of the people who can be found in the corridors of power. Therefore, if a study were to be conducted on risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, it would probably result in a higher cohort of people at risk of sudden death within Aso Villa than on the streets of Ajegunle or Sabon Gari.

The state of Nigeria’s infrastructure

Every year, an estimated 335,000 Nigerian children die of water-borne diseases. The most common waterborne diseases in Nigeria include Cholera, Guinea Worm, Hepatitis, and Typhoid. All of these are caused by contaminated water, and by extension, lack of hygiene. In Nigeria, one cannot drink water from the tap unless you boil it. Yet, clean water is something people in other countries take for granted.

Living in Nigeria can be very stressful. The stress of our jobs, the noise of car horns and megaphones, the smoke from vehicle and generator exhaust pipes, and the stress of long hours in traffic only to come home to houses without electricity, raises the levels of a hormone called Cortisol. This hormone is essential for fighting stress. However, raised levels of stress-induced cortisol are also responsible for speeding up the process of aging and chronic diseases.

Stress is a known causative factor for repressed sexual function. Middle-aged to elderly high-level businessmen or politicians, who work in a “pressure cooker” environment and have sleepless nights, are at higher risk of erectile dysfunction. This is because the autonomic nervous pathways to having an erection are also actively involved in the human stress response. Therefore, sexual symptoms are also likely to improve once the affected person withdraws from the stress-inducing environment.

How about road accidents and plane crashes? Nigeria actually dedicates surgical wards in major hospitals to the care of people who suffer from injuries caused by commercial motorcyclists known as Okada, such as the Okada Ward in the National Orthopedic Hospital in Igbobi, Lagos. The odds are that convoys of top politicians are more likely to behave lawlessly and drive recklessly. Other road users are expected to get out of the way at the sound of a siren, with whip-wielding gunmen hanging out of the windows and sides of over-speeding government vehicles. According to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), ten thousand and fifty Nigerians die every year in road accidents, not counting hundreds of victims who are severely injured or permanent disabled during such road accidents. Statistically, there are 27 deaths caused by road traffic accidents every day in Nigeria. According to the FRSC, 50% of road crashes in Nigeria are due to over speeding. The rest are due to poorly maintained roads and poor vehicle maintenance. When you couple this with the lack of emergency facilities needed to urgently transport and resuscitate accident victims, and the obstructive bureaucracy and helplessness encountered at the emergency units of most hospitals, Nigeria alone has about ten percent of all deaths due to road traffic accidents in the world.

We also have airplanes and helicopters crashing regularly in a country where, for instance, public officials are currently on trial for diverting public funds into their personal bank accounts. It should be a no-brainer. Special landing approaches into the high-velocity wind, slippery runways or mountains require additional training with expensive flight simulators, such as those used by pilots approaching Schiphol airport in the Netherlands. It’s a no-brainer: air safety comes at a cost, but that’s not where Nigeria’s money is going.

What about sudden fire incidents in houses when the building materials we use in Nigeria do not meet global fire-safety standards? Or we cannot guarantee the quality of the electrical wiring installed in our homes? Or avoid circuit overload and power surges due to appliance overload or generator usage? Did you know that the metal barricades that are normally built into Nigerian homes to keep thieves out are an obstruction to fire safety during emergencies?

The Conclusion of the Matter

The human mind is designed to construct evidence for whatever it believes. So if you believe witchcraft is the answer, you will most likely find evidence to support it. If the Nigerian president has made one mistake after another while in Aso Villa, it would be uncharitable to conclude that these mistakes are all due to witches without critical thinking. First of all, a president needs to have powerful ideas. Secondly, he needs to be surrounded by highly reasonable advisers. On the contrary, there are myriad self-interested political elite surrounding the Nigerian President and restraining every possible good deed. If the president’s ideas are scuttled by widespread corrupt practices, a substandard cabinet, a hostile political environment, and poor quality of ideas, these can seem like evidence of dark forces at play. However, the truth is that the president who will rule Nigeria successfully needs tremendous courage and fresh insight to change the way our political system works.

Moving forward, Nigeria needs leaders who point us forward with ideas, rather than backward with superstition. Only last week, American president Barack Obama gave a scientific interview to Wired, a leading journal of science and technology. In that edition, Obama discusses the future of technology, the use of artificial intelligence and how to land a man on Mars. Also, the current American first lady has a diet and exercise campaign called “Let’s Move”. She plants a vegetable garden in the White House, advocates for less junk food, more exercise and meets with CEOs of food companies to lobby for healthier ingredients, because treating obesity-related conditions costs the U.S. 190 billion dollars every year.

That is why one of Abati’s ideas which I am in favor of, is converting Aso Villa into a museum, but not for witchcraft. The reason is that Nigeria is a lower middle-income country where 70.8 per cent of the population, or 120 million people, live on less than one dollar a day. Therefore, it makes no sense for our political elite to insulate themselves from reality by luxuriating in opulent lifestyles. The deep insight and moral courage that is required to reform Nigeria is waiting to be harnessed, but first we must let go of uncritical thinking and unequal lifestyles for the rich and famous.

Politics / APC Crisis: Party Leaders Move To Reconcile Buhari, Tinubu by jchima14: 7:18pm On Oct 17, 2016

– President Muhammadu Buhari and close associates of Bola Ahmed Tinubu have met to discuss internal wrangling within the APC

– Some of Tinubu’s very close associates who met with the president include Bisi Akande; Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Sola Adeyeye

– Tinubu’s aides confirm that the meeting took place but did not give any indication of what happened

President Muhammadu Buhari met with close associates of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu shortly after his arrival from a three-day visit to Germany.

President Muhammadu Buhari has met with close associates of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a bid to contain the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Vanguard reports that Buhari, who returned to the country from a three-day official visit to Germany, over the weekend, immediately went into a meeting with close associates of the APC national leader in the presidential villa, Abuja on Sunday, October 16.

Some of Tinubu’s very close associates who met with the president include former interim national chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande; Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola and Senator Sola Adeyeye from Osun central.

Sources said the meeting discussed the internal wrangling within the ruling APC, particularly in Ondo state, other pockets of crises in the party and the may have touched on the alleged strained relationship between Buhari and Tinubu.

None of those at the meeting could be reached for comments, last night.

Though the presidential aides have claimed to be ignorant of the meeting, Tinubu’s aides however confirmed that the meeting took place but did not give any indication of what happened.

A member of the Board of Trustees, (BoT )of the APC, Mr Olisaemeka Akamukalem, however, welcomed the intervention to reconcile the president and Bola Tinubu

“I think it is a welcome development that Mr President should wade or is wading into it, but let me reiterate what other people have been saying, that instead of this piecemeal resolution of conflicts, we should have a functional BoT because they would have nipped in the bud this issue which is essentially between some stalwarts and the National Working Committee, NWC,” Akamukalem said.

“The crisis is not healthy for the party. The national chairman is our national chairman. Asiwaju (Tinubu) is a respected party leader and I can tell you that without his political sagacity, there would not have been this change, but having been a party leader for over 30 years, I think we should not rubbish the party like this. There should be a way of resolving such issues and this is why the BOT has to be reconstituted and made functional,” he added.

Recall that Bola Tinubu called for the removal of the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun for allegedly overruling the party’s national working committee’s decision on the party’s governorship primaries and submitted the name of Chief Rotimi Akeredolu as the party’s candidate in the election.

Meanwhile, Lawmakers in Lagos state house of assembly have attacked President Muhammadu Buhari for being disrespectful to All Progressives Congress (APC) national leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The lawmakers expressed deep disappointment in President Buhari’s handling of matters concerning Tinubu and described his actions as “a sign of disrespect” for the former Lagos state governor.

They noted that Tinubu cannot be shoved aside because of his contributions to the emergence of APC as a ruling party at the centre.

Celebrities / 3 Shocking Reasons Why White Men Go For Black Women by jchima14: 6:42pm On Oct 17, 2016

Interracial marriage has been in vogue since time immemorial. A white man and a black lady coming together may generate lots of controversies because of the history of blacks and the position the white people take.

On a lighter note, that kind of combination is striking as people liken them to Coke and Fanta. But in reality, it goes beyond the sharp contrast in colours as the cultural belief of both parties vary to a large extent.

Marriage is no joke; even though you have heard that line a thousand times, it will continue to be said because it is a serious business. Two people coming together in holy matrimony may have lots of issues irrespective of the fact that they belong to the same race and tribe.

But when a totally different tribe or race is involved, the two people involved need just more than love to see them through. There could be so many reasons why a black girl could lust after a white man. She could be in for the security that comes with being married to a white man or for some genuine reason.

But when a white man shows interest in a black lady and does the chasing, then there is more to it. We will be giving you concrete and mind-blowing reasons some why white men go after black women below:

1. Confidence

Most white men love dating black women because of the confidence they ooze out. Their tenacity and ability to hold their heads high when weathering storms make the men more attracted to them. White men see them as being beautiful inside out.

2. A conquest to be won

Many white men go after black women because they yearn for something deeper and different. The curvy black woman whose skin drips from melanin is seen to be more appealing than the white girls they have always known.

They have probably had their fair share of the white girls around so going after the black race seems different from the norm for some of them.

3. A feel of everything real

Many of the black ladies you see are naturally endowed. There is basically no need for most of them to go for surgeries to enhance their body parts in order to look appealing.

It is simply the African way for them to be curvy and busty. Some white men go after black women because they want to touch body parts that are real and not silicon induced.

The very stereotypical white men think black women are slutty as they basically go after them when they want to satiate their sexual appetite. Some end up finding love in the arms of these so called ‘slutty’ black women who end up giving them children.

All that matters is your ability to stand firm as a black woman; if you are keen on being with a white man, you will surely find one who will find beautiful reasons to be with you and adore you for the rest of his life.

ABUJA—SOME members of the House of Representatives, yesterday, threw their weight behind wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, for her bravery in speaking out on the state of the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration in Nigeria.

The lawmakers’ verdict was unanimous at the weekend as they advised President Muhammadu Buhari to listen to his wife’s counsel and use it to better his administration.

Chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Budget, Timothy Golu, in his reaction to the first lady’s interview with BBC, said Mrs. Buhari was closer to her husband than any other person and as such, understood him better.

He said: “She’s drawing her husbands attention to issues that sycophants around him would not tell him. But she has come out with the truth and is saying it because she loves the husband.”

“She is closer to the man (Buhari) more than any other person and since she has voiced this out, the husband should take it and review some of his actions and decisions.

“It will not be good for the President to ignore the complaints from the wife. She has been with him and is disturbed by certain things happening around the husband, so it’s natural for her to talk.”

Buhari-Aisha
Speaking almost in the same vein, Ehiozuwa.Johnson Agbonayinma, Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal constituency, said the first lady’s interview had vindicated most of them who had continuously maintained that the President had been hijacked by a cabal.

He called on Nigerian women to rally round the first lady and support her “in her campaign to save Nigeria from the hands of a few selfish individuals.”

He also noted that the first lady must have swallowed her worry for long and had decided to speak out in frustration.

Politics / Stakeholders Task FG To Inject Money Into Economy To Reduce Interest Rate by jchima14: 3:33pm On Oct 17, 2016

By Peter Egwuatu
Stakeholders in both the Nigerian capital and money markets have called on the Federal Government to quickly act by using fiscal and monetary policies to reflate the economy and bring down interest rate.

Speaking at the triennial delegates’ conference of the Independent Shareholders Association of Nigeria, ISAN in Lagos, Mr. Arnold Ekpe, former Group Managing Director of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, told Vangaurd that “The Federal Government needs to act quickly to make the economy vibrant. Given the economic recession the country is into, Government needs to pump money into the economy and apply the mix of fiscal and monetary policies to reflate the economy and bing down interest rate. The prices of commodities are rising with low income and rising unemployment, hence the need to increase expenditure and provide the needed infrastructure that will spur growth.”

Naira notes
Continuing, he said “A recession has to be managed coherently. Nigeria is not the first to be in this kind of recession. We are having stagflation because prices of things are going up and not coming down. Even, Government can go ahead to print money to attract growth. We have to spend more on infrastructure to ensure that businesses strive and do not collapse any longer. The federal government should spend on infrastructure and other viable projects to bring down interest rate so that manufacturers can get cheaper fund to expand the level of output and increase employment.

He commended the National Coordinator of ISAN, Sir Sunny Nwosu for his activism in the Nigerian capital market which has impacted to make listed companies to imbibe good corporate governance.

According to him, “The bowing out of Nwosu is quite commendable after serving the association for many years and now giving the younger ones opportunity to stir the leadership of the association is leadership by example and should applauded.”

In his own part, Mr. Bismark Rewane, an economist and Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company Limited said “Federal Government should inject money into the system, since there is a fall in oil revenue. The government has to increase the deficit plan for 2016.

“The government must inject funds into the system and harmonise the fiscal and monetary policies. It can also sell some assets because when you are in this kind of situation, you have to sell some assets. It should look at the minimum wage of the citizenry and social intervention programme, as people’s earnings have fallen.”

Mr. Christian Ekeigwe, Chairman, Audit Committee Institute, ACI, said “Corruption in the country is caused by policies of governments. When there are faulty and inconsistent policies corruption thrives. However, there are corruptions all over the countries of the world. The biggest corruption was with Enron, yet America continues to wax stronger because the people continued to invest in their country. If the corrupt money is invested in this country, the situation would have been different.

So government should address the issue of money taken out of this country and encourage people to bring in the money they have abroad and invest in the country.” He further advised the shareholders to continue their struggle for audit committee to represent their interest, stressing that qualification as an Accountant to be an audit committee member should not be included in the proposed amendment of Companies and Allied Matters Act, CAMA.

Politics / Nigerians Lack Commitment To Righteousness – Osinbajo by jchima14: 7:55pm On Oct 15, 2016

Abuja – The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, said on Friday in Abuja that although Nigeria had people who could pray, they lacked commitment to righteousness.

He made the remark at a Special Banquet to mark the 20th anniversary of Nigeria Prays, the pet project of former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon.

Osinbajo said that if the citizens truly believed in and walked in the ways of Jesus Christ whom they profess to adore and stood up for the truth, righteousness and justice, the country would clearly witness a turn-around.

According to him, there is the need to pray to God always but it is more important that Christians turn away from evil in order to make the country great.

“If we want to be a nation that can feed its people, we must turn from evil ways and work for righteousness.

“When our pulpits preach righteousness, our people will rise up and become salts of the earth; Christians will stand up and be honest if we preach righteousness in the pulpit,’’ he said.

Osinbajo
Osinbajo said that preachers had failed to tell the people that it was wrong to take bribe or accept money from government official, adding that nations that followed the principles of scripture had emerged great.

He said prayer and fasting were good, but that they were not enough to lift the country except the citizens turned away from evil.

“The principles of hard work, integrity and innovation are things that made other countries great and they are all in the gospel and if we follow the principles, we can be great,’’ he stressed.

The vice president extolled the virtues of honesty, integrity and hard work of Gowon and urged Nigerians, especially leaders to emulate him.

Earlier, Gowon said that the group had spent the past 20 years praying for the sincere intercessions for the healing of the country.

He said that passage of time had not diluted the vision of Nigeria Prays group.

“It has been an eventful journey to prepare a highway for God in our nation.

“By His grace, we have succeeded in laying a solid spiritual foundation for national reflections and intercessions.

“Through prayers, rallies, seminars, Nigeria Prays has created an opportunity for Nigerians and friends of Nigeria, irrespective of denominational affiliation and religious background,’’ he said.

According to the former head of state, we have to continue to promote the virtues of patriotism and transparency in the citizenry and good governance and incorruptibility in leadership.

He said that in spite of how much Nigerians had prayed to exit difficulties, a lot needed to be done and expressed optimism that the Holy Spirit would lead the way for the nation to be healed.

A cleric, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, in a sermon said that Gowon was an exemplary leader and urged others to be patriotic and avoid partisanship so as to help in building bridges for development and unity of the country.

He prayed that God would lift Nigeria and its leaders up and heal the country from the harm of corruption.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was used to present a book on Gowon titled “God’s Praying General’’ and launch of a N2 billion fund for the erection of Nigeria Prays centre.

Politics / Recession: Ambode Talks Tough, Read What He Told Nigerian Leaders by jchima14: 7:42pm On Oct 15, 2016

– Governor Akinwunmi Ambode says Nigeria’s present economic situation urgently requires its elected leaders to rise above their personal differences and interests with a common unity of purpose

– Ambode said said the recession taking its toll on Nigerians is a wakeup call for Nigeria leaders to come together for the purpose of rescuing the nation

L-R: Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode (middle), addressing journalists shortly after the Opening session of the Executive/Legislative Retreat, with the theme Good Governance in a Recession, at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday, October 14, 2016. (L-R) With him are Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Mr. Olamilekan Adeola Solomon; Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa; Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Mr. Gbenga Ashafa; former Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Mr. Tokunbo Afikuyomi

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday said that Nigeria’s present economic situation urgently requires its elected leaders to rise above their personal differences and interests with a common unity of purpose and deliver good governance to the people who they represent.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the maiden edition of the Executive/Legislative Retreat held at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, said the recession taking its toll on Nigerians is a wakeup call for Nigeria leaders to come together for the purpose of rescuing the nation.

Harping on the central theme of the retreat, “Good Governance in a Recession”, Governor Ambode said the economic downturn was no respecter of tribe or religion, neither does it discriminate along political party lines, hence, every Nigerian was feeling the impact.

He said the retreat, which had brought together members of the Executive and the Legislature from the State and Federal level from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a statement of fact that the people come first in Lagos.

The Governor said, “Our people demand, and request from us, good governance, leadership and hope at a critical time like this in our nation. We must therefore rise above our personal differences and interests, with a common unity of purpose; staying focused on our promises and manifesto at all times.

“If our economy must grow, it must also have the mindset and culture to want to grow. It is therefore left for all of us to learn to emphasize the people and de-emphasize the power to get good results. Getting good results requires that we abide by the principles of good governance; whether we are in or out of any economic recession. It is very clear, and I also make bold to say that our concern is, and should be, about our people, Lagosians and Nigerians in general.

“One common feature of most of us gathered here today is the social contract we have with our people; having elected us to serve them. The Executive-Legislative collaboration is strongly required and desirous in order for us to deliver and create dividends of democracy.”

Governor Ambode who also dwelt on the need to entrench good governance, listed fairness, equity and obedience to Rule of Law and inclusion as key ingredients, adding that the last 16 months of his administration has focused on these principles.

“Allowing everyone to participate to reach consensus is good governance. There must be direction as to where our government is going. Strategic vision, performance, responsiveness in getting the needed results in the most cost-reduced efforts possible is good governance,” he said.

Besides, Governor Ambode also stressed that there was no better for the six States in the South West region under the Odu’a Investments Group to activate the partnership for economic growth.

“As you may recall, Lagos joined the Odu’a Investments Group last year to become the Sixth State in the South West with Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo State as founders. This historic move is not only Strategic, but deeply falls in line with our vision of reawakening the political economy and socio-economic hegemony of member States.

“As we proceed to extract the greater opportunities of inclusion, it is, of necessity to call on other State Governments, irrespective of our political leanings that the Odu’a Investment initiative is a veritable economic vehicle for us to take our people out of recession,” the Governor said.

In his goodwill message, Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa commended Governor Ambode for the retreat and his purposeful leadership, saying that it was a good thing that the State is championing a platform for elected and appointed officials to deliberate on matters of paramount interest to the people.

He said for good governance to be feasible in an economic recession, sound anti-corruption policies devoid of mere speeches and lip service must be put in place, as well as cordial relationship between executive, legislature and judiciary.

According to the Speaker, all arms of government must be up and doing on their duties, focusing more on governance that is accountable, transparent, responsive, equitable and all inclusive.

On his part, Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Mr. Gbenga Ashafa, commended the Governor for how he has been handling affairs of the State, especially the issue of kidnapping, saying that Lagos remains the only State that usually respond swiftly to such issues with the Governor leading the security operatives from the front.

Ashafa also commended the Governor for the retreat, saying that such platform should be organised periodically to foster cohesion and unity of purpose among elected and appointed representatives of the people.

In the same vein, Senator representing Lagos West at the Senate, Hon. Adeola Olamilekan Solomon, said the retreat was a confirmation of unity among people’s representatives, which according to him, was important for development.

The retreat also had in attendance members of the State Executive Council, party chieftains including Chairman of the APC in Lagos, Otunba Henry Ajomale, his Vice, Cardinal James Odunbaku, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, former Deputy Governor of Lagos, prince Abiodun Ogunleye, among others.

Politics / WOW! President Buhari Leaks BIG Chibok Girls Secret by jchima14: 7:27pm On Oct 15, 2016

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that more of the abducted Chibok girls are set to return home soon.

He revealed this in Germany during discussions with German chancellor Angela Merkel. He assured the European leader that his government would continue to negotiate with Boko Haram until all the girls are released.

According to a statement by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu, the president made this assurance at a press conference during his trip to Germany.

The statement quoted Buhari as saying: “On the Chibok girls, we have been able to secure the release of 21 of them, so over 100 more are still in the hands of the terrorists somewhere in the Lake Chad Basin area which include Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria.

“In getting this 21 out, we hope we will get enough intelligence to go about securing the rest of them.

“We are very grateful to the UN for their participation in trying to secure the release of these girls.

“Please don’t forget that as a result of terrorism in Nigeria, no fewer than 37,000 Nigerians were killed by Boko Haram.

“Right now we have about two million people in IDP camps, 60 per cent of them are women and children and 60 per cent of those children are orphaned.

“This is a major challenge for government; we have to provide face infrastructure especially for education and health, take them back to their villages and towns and reintegrate them so that they can have normal life.”

Meanwhile, criticisms have continued to poor in for the president over his ‘insult’ to his wife Aisha after claiming that she was only deserving of his kitchen and not to comment on political or government matters.

Latest to criticise Buhari for the statement are former members of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan’s government Femi Fani-Kayode and media aide Reno Omkri.

Politics / BREAKING: Saraki Backs Aisha Buhari After Controversial BBC Interview by jchima14: 8:27pm On Oct 14, 2016

Nigerian Senate president, Bukola Saraki, on Friday, October 14, said that he has been vindicated by the recent outburst of Mrs Aisha Buhari over the leadership of her husband.

Saraki said the fact that Buhari’s wife could come out to openly express reservations about her husband’s appointees showed that his earlier argument that the government had been hijacked, was in good faith. On June 27, 2016, the Senate president alleged that there is a government within President Muhammadu Buhari’s government using their executive powers to persecute the leadership of the Senate.

Saraki’s comments were disclosed by a tweet posted by his media aide, Bamikole Omisore, on Friday morning.

Politics / $16bn EPZ: Fg’s Delay Stalling 150,000 Jobs In N’delta – Ayiri by jchima14: 5:15pm On Oct 12, 2016

The Federal Government has been advised to use the prevailing ceasefire with Niger Delta militants to restart the $16billion Gas Revolution Industrial Park and Escravos Environs Power Supply Project in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Niger Delta activist and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Chief Ayirimi Emami, made the call in an open letter to President Muhammad Buhari, a copy of which was made available to The Nation. He said the move would go a long way to bringing permanent peace to the Niger Delta, stressing that delay in restarting the project is hampering 150,000 possible direct and indirect jobs in the region.

He said, “I have never been an advocate of the use violence to attract Federal or state governments’ attention, but that does not mean that the Niger Delta Region has not been suffering neglect, despite the huge resources derived from the area.

“But now that the so-called ceasefire has been declared by the militants and their sponsors, permit me to strongly appeal that your administration immediately initiate steps to commence work at the multibillion dollar,” he added.

Chief Emami said the determination of the present administration to diversify our economy from over-dependence on crude oil and gas would be greatly enhanced by the projects, which he said could mop over 150,000 youths off the streets.

“The ongoing strides being recorded by the military hierarchy (against terrorists and militants) will maximally achieve its set goals if construction work resumes at the Gas Revolution Industrial Park, GRIP, Ogidigben as well as Escravos Environs Power Supply Project.

“All the Federal and Delta State governments need to do is to create the enabling environment, set the right policy direction as well as ensure adequate security and the project with a massive employment capacity from ready-foreign investors will take-off in earnest.

“The over $16 billion GRIP Project billed to accommodate a major Industrial Gas Hub and Petrochemical, Methanol as well as Fertilizer Plant will create over 150,000 direct and indirect jobs at the construction stage and set the tone for the eagerly anticipated diversification of our economy.

“No doubt, the Agricultural, Manufacturing and Solid Minerals sectors will be greatly boosted, Niger Delta militancy will be brought to non-existence and the ongoing effort to take our country out of recession will be realized,” Emami stated.

In the same vein, the Warri chief appealed to the federal government to revisit the Escravos Environs Power Supply Project, stressing that “This mega project is a part of NGC ELPS System-A Network, which passes the host communities in the Escravos Shore, Warri South-West LGA.

“It must be explicitly stated that 30 oil and gas host/ impacted communities will benefit in the project, which is outside the power supply and distribution network of the National Grid. This is not forgetting the communities’ huge agro-based potentials.”

He lamented that the recent attack on oil facilities have plunged riverside communities in the region into perpetual darkness, noting that with the completion of the project, host communities would have more stake and need to protect gas facilities in their communities.

Crime / 60-year-old Man Commits Suicide In Delta State Over Hunger by jchima14: 2:00pm On Oct 12, 2016

– A 60-year-old man in Delta state, Okporo Arigo, has hung himself on a tree, leaving a note stating reasons for his action

– Arigo, whose younger brother is a serving councillor at the Ughelli north legislative arm, was discovered in the bush with the suicide note nearby his dangling lifeless body

A 60-year-old man in Ughelli north local government area of Delta state has committed suicide, citing his inability to feed and provide for his immediate family as reasons for his action.

The victim, Okporo Arigo, was said to have hung himself on a tree and left a note stating why he took the drastic measure, The Nation reports.

Arigo, whose younger brother is a serving councillor at the Ughelli north legislative arm, was discovered in the bush with the suicide note nearby his dangling lifeless body.

A member of the Uwheru community executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity on the issue said the suicide left by victim claimed his inability to feed and provide for his immediate family made him end his life.

“He claimed to have embarked on the act to put a stop on his inability to take care of his immediate family after his younger brother, who is a serving councillor, abandoned him to his fate,” the source said.

The source claimed that the late Arigo’s younger brother had not been paid in the last 10 months by the state government.

The source added: “I don’t think the man would have died if the state government had been paying the councillors their salaries. I believe the payment was part of what that led to the death of the councillor’s brother.”

Since Nigeria slid into economic recession, the cases of suicide has been skyrocketing due to the spate of hardship in the country.

In September, Vanguard reported that a 50-year-old man, identified as Chief Ekanem Edet, in in Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom state hung himself, leaving a suicide note in which he blamed his action on harsh economic condition.

According to a recent report by the Nigerian Police Force, about 62 Nigerians have committed suicide due to the depression associated with economic depression since the official announcement was made in August. The motivation behind the suicide saga is still been investigated by the authorities.

Education / Police Storm FUTA To Arrest Institution’s Vc,you Will Be Shocked By What He Did by jchima14: 2:26pm On Oct 11, 2016

– Police officers have been deployed to FUTA following agitations for the removal of the institution’s VC, Adebiyi

Daramola, by labour unions

– Daramola allegedly abused his office and mismanaged the school funds

– He is said to be holding meetings with principal officers of the institution in a bid to resolve the impasse

Police officers have been deployed in the premises of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), following agitations for the removal of the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Adebiyi Daramola, by labour unions.

According to a report on Premium Times, Daramola who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, October 5, but later released, allegedly abused his office and mismanaged the school funds.

Police officers have been deployed to FUTA following agitations for the removal of the institution’s VC, Adebiyi Daramola, by labour unions.

However, the decision by the anti-graft agency to release Daramola has been greeted with extreme repugnance by the school unions, as they protested his release.

The workers, members of the Non Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the National Association of Academic Technologists, are demanding the prosecution of the VC and his removal as head of the institution.

But the police have moved to maintain law and order in the school premises as vehicles were on Monday, October 10 barred from entering into FUTA by armed policemen, as only the pedestrian gate was opened to visitors.

The Public Relations Officers of Ondo police, Femi Joseph, said the officers were asked to still remain at the entrance of the institution in order to avoid breakdown of law and order.

He said: “Our men are still there to maintain law and order and also to ensure that peace return to the school.

“It is the peace we are after that is why you saw those policemen there. But as soon as we are sure that peace has returned our men will leave the place.”

However, report has it that Daramola has started holding meetings with principal officers of the institution in a bid to resolve the impasse. He is also said to have stayed away from his office in the institution.

Following his arrest last week, Daramola was quizzed by the anti-graft agency, alongside the bursar, Emmanuel Oresegun, for alleged abuse of office and mismanagement of funds.

He was alleged to have drawn furniture allowance annually instead of once in four years as approved and paying himself housing allowance while residing in the University Vice Chancellor’s Quarters.

He was also alleged to have diverted funds from various unrelated subheads to finance other projects without the appropriate approvals.

The Bayelsa State Government says the West African Examinations Council has finally released the results of the May/June examinations for students in all public schools in the state.

The State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Makson Fefegha, said the results were posted online since last Saturday, a Government House statement said on Monday.According to him, the release of the results followed the government’s fulfillment of an agreement it reached with WAEC, including the payment of money owed the regional examinations body.

To this end, Fefegha called on parents and students, who sat for the May/June Senior Secondary School Certificate examinations to obtain their results online.

He used the opportunity to commend parents in the state for the high level of understanding they demonstrated, stressing that the government remained committed to its policy of free and compulsory education for primary and post primary schools.

Politics / Recession: Lagos To Introduce Monthly Payment On Housing by jchima14: 5:40pm On Oct 10, 2016

In a bid to cushion the effects of economic recession in the country, the Lagos State Government has perfected plans to introduce monthly payment plan on its Home Ownership Mortgage Schemes popularly called Lagos HOMS across the State.
The State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who stated this after embarking on an extensive inspection tour of projects across the State, said his administration has decided to scale up the rent-to-own policy by introducing monthly payment plan whereby people can pay monthly instead of being compelled to make a down payment of 30 percent of the total cost or pay for one year.
He said: “We believe strongly that people should be able to pay one month rent and live in our housing schemes. We don’t think in a recession, we should be having a situation where we allow people to come and buy when they don’t have money or to come and pay one year rent. We think the way to move forward is to allow these our younger ones to just pay one month deposit and pay one month rent and move into the houses and then more or less play up our rent-to-own scheme,” Governor Ambode said.
While speaking on the pocket-friendly initiatives of his administration on housing, Governor Ambode said the State Government has taken time to review its mortgage schemes vis-à-vis its financial flow, adding that many ongoing housing schemes have reached advanced stages of completion and that they would be rolled out in a matter of months.
The Governor, who inspected the Illubirin Housing Scheme in Lagos Island, said government, in partnership with private sector, is making arrangement to transform the scheme into a live, work and play environment.
“In addition to that, the other housing projects that we are doing are on course and I want to assure Lagosians that in the next few months, we will be seeing a whole lot of housing units being rolled out,” the Governor said.
On his part, the State’s Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Gbolahan Lawal, debunked insinuation that the Illubirin Housing Scheme had been abandoned, saying that government was rather working to improve on the project which is sitting on 28 hectares.
He recalled how the project started under the administration of former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu with sand filling, while his predecessor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola carried on with the project.
He said: “Now, under the administration of Governor Ambode, we want to scale it up and the idea is to make this place a live, play and work environment and so we are projecting 500 units instead of the 1,260 that the scheme was formerly designed for. We believe government funds should be deployed to some other sites that we are working on and to also come up with new designs and new buildings and so instead of government to recapitalize this project, we are working with the private sector and the investor that has come up is investing about $500 million.”
According to Lawal, about five hectares of the Illubirin scheme would be dedicated to leisure, while there would also be commercial activities, as well as flyover which would be constructed.
He said the State Government is already working with the Federal Ministry of Works and the Ministry of Waterfront in that regard, adding that the flyover would be on another phase.
He also said that all the phases of the scheme are expected to span between five to seven years, but that there would be a lot of improvement on the project before May 2019.
Governor Ambode also inspected the ongoing construction of a lay-by and slip road into Isheri Olowora at Berger bus-stop.

Politics / Gas Constraint Causes Shortage Of 3,269MW by jchima14: 5:23pm On Oct 10, 2016

The Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) has said that generation companies (GENCOs) could not produce 3,269MW as a result of the shortage of gas for fueling the power plants.
In its October 8 performance report that it posted on its website on Monday, it noted that the power sector lost 371.7MW due to line constraint and also lost 479.4MW owing to a high-frequency constraint.
According to NESI, there was no challenge due to water management, but on the day under review, the total constraints led to a loss of about N1.978billion.
Following the losses, the Nigeria Electricity System Operator (SO) that would have sent out about 7,247MW were there on constraints, only sent out 3,335MW to the 11 distribution companies (DisCos).
The report said: “On October 8 2016, average power sent out was 3335MWh/hour (down by 164 MWh/h). The reported gas constraint was 3269MW. The reported line constraint was 371.7MW and the reported high-frequency constraint is 479.4MW according to TCN. The water management constraint was 0MW. The power sector lost an estimated N1,978, 000, 000 on October 8, 2016, due to constraints.”
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Electricity System Operator (SO) of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said that at 06:00 hours of October 10, it hit an energy generation of 3,805.10MW.
The power sector had last Thursday said that the three hydroelectric stations which include Kanji, Jebba and Shiroro produced 283MW, 415MW,380MW respectively, totally 1,119MW.
It added that Egbin generated 380MW, Sapele I 59MW, Delta 324MW, Geregu 134MW, Omotosho 168MW, Olorunsogo 153MW Geregu NIPP 123MW,Sapele NIPP 104MW, Olorunsogo NIPP 77MW, Omotosho 193MW, Odukpani NIPP 51MW, Okpai 339MW, Ibom 63MW, Omoku 33, Transamadi 14MW, Transamadi 113, Paras Energy 48MW, and Gbarain 95MW.
The Nation observed from the operational performance of the SO that contained this data that seven power plants did not produce power on the day under review.

Politics / "These 2 Igbo Men Will Save Nigeria" by jchima14: 4:37pm On Oct 05, 2016

Prominent Prophet Princewill Iheme has said there are two men from Igbo tribe who may rule and fix Nigeria. In an exclusive statement for NAIJ.com the cleric, who is famous for his support for Biafra movement, stated that Nigerians should elect Igbo president to save the nation.

He said: “God almighty has chosen two people in Igbo tribe that can rule and fix Nigeria. The names of the two people are Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Governor Rochas Okorocha. Nigerians should select one person to rule Nigeria. Also Nigerians should forget about civil war wounds, ethnic hatred, religious hatred, and elect Igbo president to save the nation. “This message is from God not from me. The present recession in Nigeria was caused by God, selling off national assets cannot stop the recession in Nigeria, rather more harm will occur. Peace and unity is the only thing that will stop the recession because progress will never come where there is no peace and unity. “Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding. Only the Igbo president will bring peace, unity and good economy in Nigeria. May God give Nigerians ears to listen to this message.”

Business / JUST IN: President Buhari Puts Two Presidential Jets Up For Sale (photos) by jchima14: 6:36pm On Oct 04, 2016

The federal government has put up for sale two private jets in President Muhammadu Buhari’s fleet. Leadership reports that government has advertised in a national daily the sale of a Falcon 7x and a Hawker 4000.

It reports that the interested buyers were asked to inspect the Falcon at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International, Airport, Abuja, and the Hawker at Cessna Zurich Citation Service Centre, Zurich, Switzerland. Apparently, the sale is to generate foreign currency as Leadership reports that the office of the national security adviser, which is in charge of the sale, said all bids must be in US dollars. This confirms a Tweet by presidential spokesman Garba Shehu in September that “There is a govt committee already in place, working to reduce the number of aircraft in the Presidential fleet.”

Religion / Muslim Man Kills Junior Sister For Marrying A Christian by jchima14: 5:55pm On Oct 04, 2016

Pakistani man, Mubeen Rajhu has admitted murdering his sister in an ‘honour killing’ because she married a Christian man. Muheeb shot Tasleem in the head at home in August after he discovered his Muslim sister had defied the family and married a Christian.

While being held by police, Muheeb said he had demanded that his sister swear on the Quran that she would never marry the man. He said: ‘I told her I would have no face to show at the mill, to show to my neighbors, so don’t do it. Don’t do it. But she wouldn’t listen. I could not let it go. It was all I could think about. I had to kill her. There was no choice. There was no yelling, no shouting. I just shot her dead.’ However, Tasleem’s father Mohammed Naseer Rajhu puts the blame on his daughter. Politics / Budget Padding: Hon Jibrin Plans More Revelations by jchima14: 2:55pm On Oct 04, 2016

The embattled former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Mr Abdulmumin Jibrin, says he is not done with exposing what he calls ‘systemic corruption’ in the House of Representative.

Mr Jibrin said he would be speaking more on how members committed fraud during investigations in the days ahead.

He made the remarks on Monday at a media conference with journalists and bloggers in Abuja.

It was held to explain some issues regarding his allegations of corruption against principal officers of the House of Representatives.

‘Systemic Blackmail’

He told reporters that in his four years in the National Assembly, he had never seen where a standing Committee of the House on Education inserted 181 projects into the budget.

“On the aspect of individual corruption and issues of corruption, I have given a lot of instances with allegations against the Speaker and some other members of the House of Representatives.
“On the issue of systemic corruption in the next few days, I will be talking in a more indepth manner how investigative hearing and oversight are used to perpetuate corruption in the House.

“Also, you can imagine, isn’t it ridiculous that 360 members, nobody has the internal budget of the house copies. There is nothing that we did not do with Dogara to release the internal budget of the House.

“These are facts. He should come out in light and just say Jibrin is lying.

“I have been saying this thing for eight weeks, he hasn’t come out to talk,” he told reporters.

Mr Jibrin also alleged that lawmakers had kept quiet over the issue because there was ‘systemic blackmail’.

“They have swallowed allowances. So you cannot talk, even though they are unhappy about the situation. The leadership always use that as a blackmail,” he claimed.

According to him, apart from the allegations already contained in his petition to anti-graft agencies, he would be speaking to the public in the days ahead about how some individuals in investigative committees commit corruption with their office.

The lawmaker also explained the reasons for not appearing before the Ethics Committee that recommended his suspension as well as those he indicted in his petitions to the anti-graft agencies.

Mr Jibrin was suspended on September 28 by the House after he failed to appear before the Ethics Committee.

He had demanded that the hearing should be put on live TV, saying that it was the condition that must be met before he would appear.

After his suspension for 180 sitting days and subsequent lockdown of his office, the lawmaker filed a suit against the Speaker of the House, Mr Yakubu Dogara, claiming that the forwarding of the issue to the Ethics Committee contravened the law, as there was a subsisting suit on the issue.

Reacting to his suspension, Mr Jibrin said that the decision was completely inconsequential‘.

“Whatever product comes out of that process, as far as I am concerned, is completely inconsequential and cannot stand anywhere.

“The matter is in court and it is a matter of litigation,” he told Channels Television.

He had accused Mr Dogara and some other lawmakers of padding the 2016 budget.

Mr Dogara had denied the allegation, but at one point told reporters that padding was not an offence.

Politics / APC Crisis: Party Scribe Writes Buhari On Oyegun’s Misdeeds by jchima14: 3:25pm On Oct 03, 2016

– Deputy national publicity secretary of the APC Timi Frank has written to President Buhari on how national chairman John Odigie-Oyegun has been dragging the party backwards

– Frank accused Oyegun of depriving him (Frank) of the right to the position of national publicity secretary after Lai Mohammed became a minister – Frank says Oyegun lacked the capacity to take the party out of its current problems and should be replaced
The crisis within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) took a new turn on Sunday, October 2 as the party’s deputy national publicity secretary Timi Frank wrote a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari about the party’s national chairman John Odigie-Oyegun. According to The Sun, Frank chronicled Oyegun’s many sins in his letter to the president and called for immediate action against the boss in a move that has undoubtedly deepened the ongoing APC crisis. An aggrieved Frank also pointed at how he was deprived of becoming the party’s spokesperson by Oyegun after Lai Mohammed became minister of information and culture. The letter read: “Mr. President, Sir, it is with great enthusiasm and patriotism that I’ve decided to write you once again through this open letter to intimate you on the impending danger that could befall our great party and I’m optimistic that this letter will serve its urgency and purpose of reaching you and our leaders and elders of our great party. “Mr. President, Sir, I wish to reiterate my earlier stand on this matter and I’m also elated that I’ve been vindicated in my struggle to save our party all the while, when so many thought of me as a rebel or paid apologist.

“It is therefore, no secret that I was one of the very first persons in the party who took the bull by the horns and openly raised the alarm of urgent issues which had to be addressed in order to steer the APC ship in its right course. Share on Facebook Share on Twitter President Muhammadu Buhari has been told of Oyegun’s misdeeds. “Suffice to say that all my efforts to plead with the party leadership to redirect its affairs fell on deaf ears as no one took me seriously at the time. You may recall Mr. President, that the origin of this crisis began when the issue of the National Assembly leadership arose and the decision of the party at the time against party members, especially against the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representative. I foresaw the impending cracks at the time when the party leaders ignored the injustice against these two persons and I subsequently raised viable concerns which still fell on deaf ears. “Again, when I raised concerns against the manner in which Chief Odigie-Oyegun handled the conduct of the Bayelsa State governorship primary that produced the APC candidate, no one listened to me, and alas, the outcome of that election became a clear testament to my alleged fears. “Subsequently, when my immediate boss, Alhaji Lai Mohammed became the Minister of Information, I was supposed to immediately fill in the gap and act in his stead as enshrined in our party constitution as the acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, but this was not to be as I was outrightly being persecuted for reasons unknown and perhaps for selfish interest.

“I was deprived from performing my duties and my duties were assigned to themselves. It is worthy to note that today, we are witnessing the same concerns and fears being expressed by one of the founding fathers of our great party, who also doubles as a national leader agreeing with my earlier call that Chief Odigie-Oyegun should resign as the National Chairman. “Mr. President, Sir, the episode of the recent Ondo primary is just one case too many befalling the APC under the leadership of Chief Odigie-yegun and I’m therefore, challenging Chief Odigie-Oyegun to tell Nigerians if he has been able to mediate over any crisis that has been successful. “As far as I am aware, APC under Odigie-Oyegun has not been able to resolve any crisis in the party since we became the ruling party. Chief Odigie-Oyegun has shown that he lacks the capacity to resolve all the crisis currently rocking our party in nearly all the states of the federation.” Meanwhile, Oyegun has begun moves to save his job. He has already met with a leader in the party and former vice president Atiku Abubakar to explain his side of the story in the feud with another national leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who recently called for his (Oyegun’s) resignation.

Politics / Threat To Attack Militants: Buhari Gets Warning From Niger Delta by jchima14: 2:59pm On Oct 03, 2016

The threat by President Muhammadu Buhari to deal with Niger Delta militants blowing up oil and gas installations has attracted criticism from some leaders from the Niger Delta region.
A former governor of Anambra state Chukwuemeka Ezeife has condemned federal government approach over economic development in Nigeria. Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, Ezeife said the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration plunged Nigeria into the current economic crisis. He said the attitude and statements made by the federal government scared foreign investors away. “If the government of the country begins to say the government is broke, they (investors) have nothing to doubt. That accounts for so many exits from Nigeria,” Ezeife said. He also the federal government flooded the media with reports of Nigeria being bankrupt: “They took over and within a very short time they started making negative statements about the economy. This is not a matter of blaming anybody. You just look at how many companies have quit Nigeria. I know of a friend who brought in some expatriates to co-invest with him here.” “They were just about to get started when the first salvo from government was fired that the country should not be invested in, because that is what it means; that the country is broke, that it is a poor economic decision to come here. So, the foreigners ran away and the man is still struggling now to get new partners,” he said. The former governor and elder statesman cautioned the government on the now trending blame game among public officials. Ezeife said, blame game by President Buhari and his minister over the performance of past administrations is the most stupid thing to do and a waste of Nigerians time. “If it was the fault of the last administration, let him take us to all the things as they were during that administration. Let him take us to the price of rice that was obtainable before he took over; take us to that petrol price; take us to the exchange rate; take us to the market as it existed; take us back to what it was when you took over,” he said. Speaking on restructuring, the former governor said there is no basis for disagreement. He said restructuring should unite Nigerians rather than divide them. He also denied saying that restructuring is political.

He said: “There is need for him to maintain a clear stand on dialogue and let us proceed on dialogue, which is what everybody is waiting for. No need threatening force because that is no.” Similarly, former president of Ijaw national Congress (INC) Prof Kimse Okoko, described the threats by the president to militants as old clichés that do not help the matter at all. He however agreed that no section of the country should hold the country to ransom, but noted that an unjust society will hold itself to ransom. He said it is better for the government to start implementation of the 2014 National Conference recommendations, if they don’t want any part of the country to hold the government to ransom. On his part, presiding Bishop of Christian Chapel International, Calabar, Bishop Emmah Isong cautioned that the threats to attack militant by the president is just a self-serving effort, which will lead to nowhere. Another Niger Delta leader, Timi Tonye, who represents Patani constituency in Delta state House of Assembly, said presidents, anywhere in the world, were assumed to be statesmen, who would not threaten their own people under any guise.

Politics / Buhari Is Responsible For The Current Recession Not Jonathan-chukwuemeka Ezeife by jchima14: 2:05pm On Oct 03, 2016

– A former governor of Anambra state Chukuwuemeka Ezeife has condemned federal government attitude towards economic development in Nigeria

– Ezeife also said that the current recession in Nigeria was caused by the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration

Speaking on restructuring, the former governor said there is no basis for disagreement. He said restructuring should unite Nigerians rather than divide them. He also denied saying that restructuring is political.

“Indeed, it is more economic than political. We are concerned about improving the welfare of ordinary Nigerian people. It is not a matter of the rich. Those who are against it may be feudalists, who do not care very much about the welfare of the ordinary people. What am I talking about?” he said. On the break up of Nigeria and agitation for Biafra, Ezeife said he is one person that does not see a break up. He also said that Igbo’s are a gift to Nigeria, with the believe to develop and mend were ever the dwell.

“People like me don’t even think of any division at all because I believe that nobody in his right mind would want Nigeria to break up and the people, who seem to be pushing the break-up, the Fulani, are the least well-placed, if we were to break up because they would lose the most from a Nigeria that breaks up. “The Igbo, somehow would manage to survive and thrive; the Yoruba are already surviving; South-South, God blessed them; Middle-Belt, well, they might have problems, being the closest people to the Fulani but the bottom line is that Nigeria is better off with the same people it has now and that there should be no break-up if we think about the long-term interests of each group. “Let us look at the Igbo, they feel the most rejected at this stage. What is the problem? The Igbo come to a place empty-handed, he might even carry faeces on his head to make small money and gradually he gets a kiosk, eventually, he builds a palace in the place. Unfortunately, without knowing it, he would sit in front of his mighty palace and appear to ooze more confidence than the original owners of the land. And, if the Igbo is from Anambra, he may even insult some people without knowing it when he is boasting. Therefore, jealousy would set in and from there to hatred, then the next thing is blood-flow. This is the problem we have in the country. But I am pleasantly surprised at Nigerians.

In spite of what I have just explained, you find some people writing that Igbo are needed in Nigeria. I mean, these are people who can see. The truth is that Igbo are a gift God gave Nigeria. Look at anywhere you are talking about. Ijebu-Ode, go and count the houses. Go to Lagos and even in Abuja here or Kaduna, count the houses. Another Igbo principle is, “where you live, you mend it”, that is, you develop it. But we have over-done it and people are jealous of them and those who are jealous of them sometimes forget that they did not steal money and those who are Igbo forget that they can get a lot better by studying the people of the immediate environment, giving help and making friends with the local people. “The best thing is to restructure now; the earlier we restructure, the tighter the federation.
