Mr Agyole Abeh has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State.

Abeh, who assumed office on Nov. 14, took over from Mr Sanusi Lemu.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Aliyu Usman, in a statement on Thursday said that the new CP hails from Ibi Local Government area of Taraba State.

The new commissioner was enlisted in the service on January 1, 1984 as pioneer cadet inspector and was trained at the Police College in kaduna.

Abeh holds a Bachelors Degree in Art (Philosophy) from University of Lagos and Advance Diploma in Law Enforcement Administration from same university.

He also attended Intermediate Management Course at Centre of Excellence, Police Stability Concentrate Vincentia, Italy.

Abeh attended Senior Leadership and Strategic Course, Police Staff College, Jos, and Senior Management Course in ASCON.

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the bribery allegation against the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and his counterpart from Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonaya Onu as a distraction.

Recall that two Supreme Court Justices recently arrested by security agencies, Justices Sylvester Ngwuta and John Inyang Okoro had accused both Amaechi and Onu of attempting to bribe them at separate intervals.

Following the allegation the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack both Ministers.

Reacting to the call, the Chairman of APC in the state, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, in a statement urged Buhari to disregard the call for Amaechi and Onu’s sack, stressing that it was frivolous and mischievous.

According to Ikanya, “The Rivers State chapter of All Progressives Congress, (APC), has taken notice of a press release by the Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP) and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to ask the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu to step aside because some Justices accused and being investigated of corruption had curiously described their investigation as act of persecution by the Buhari administration for not favouring the All Progressives Congress, APC, in election matters arising from the 2015 general elections in some states.

“The call by the PDP flies in the face of reason, fairness, common sense and cause of justice. 1. It is a known fact that embattled Justices Sylvester Ngwuta and John Inyang Okoro of the Supreme Court who are currently under DSS investigation for serious corruption charges only resorted to the cheap, convenient, everyday reaction of people caught red-handed committing crimes in order to divert attention away from the grave reality confronting them especially when faced with sufficient evidence.

“Indeed, it is even more disconcerting that PDP in the said call, refused to recognise the naked fact that by accusing the Ministers of attempting to induce them to pervert the course of justice, the accused Hon. Justices introduced unrelated allegations against innocent persons unconnected with the matter for which they are being investigated, something that many accused persons easily, conveniently and cheaply resort to when caged.

“The questions that quickly come to mind include: were the huge sums of money reportedly found in their homes given to them by the Ministers they are accusing? Do the petitions for which the Justices are being investigated have anything to do with Amaechi or Onu? Are Justices of the Supreme Court unaware that relevant laws of the land imposes on them the strict duty to properly and formally report inducement of any kind in a timely manner or risk prison term of not less than 2 years?

“We urge Mr. President and Nigerians to completely disregard PDP call for the sacking of Amaechi and Onu. Why should they be sacked? What crime did they commit for PDP to call for their sack? These fine gentlemen did nothing wrong. Mr. President should not and cannot act based on mere accusations from the Supreme Court Justices without any iota of proof or evidence to back their claims. And we should not forget that these Justices only started making these false accusations against Amaechi & Onu, after they were arrested by the DSS.

“PDP’s call is fraudulent, unnecessary, a distraction from the real problems of fighting corruption in the Judiciary. They should allow Mr. President fight corruption without their childish, partisan distractions. The President Buhari’s fight against corruption is about Nigeria and moving Nigeria forward.

“The PDP should rather be calling for the expulsion and sack of their governors and senate minority leader from the South-South region who has been involved in the pervasion of justice in governorship electoral matters by financially inducing the Supreme Court Justices under investigation.

“Yes, as a party, we re-affirm our belief that the PDP governors and Senate Minority Leader who perverted justice and then turned around to orchestrate wrongful and false accusations against the Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi through the Supreme Court Justices in order to cover their tracks, crime, distract attention and destroy Amaechi, are the ones that the PDP should expel from their party, banish from politics and call for their resignation or sacking.”

Governor Ayodele Fayose held a peace meeting with members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) on Thursday, November 3.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has held a peace meeting with members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

The Miyetti Allah at the meeting held in the government house, signed a peace pact with the government, promising to co-exist peacefully with the farmers and residents of the state, Vanguard reports.

The governor also released nine cows arrested for contravening the state’s anti-grazing law. The cows were seized a couple of weeks ago by the Ekiti State Grazing Enforcement Marshals for contravening anti-grazing law.

Fayose, at the peace meeting which was attended by south-west, traditional rulers and the Fulani community on Thursday, November 3, mandated that cattle breeders operating in Ekiti state register with the traditional rulers of their host communities.

The governor however noted that the free registration must be done within the next 14 days after which the registered names would be forwarded to the state government for data keeping.

He also warned that the 7am till 6pm grazing period stipulated in the law stands and that anyone who contravenes this will be dealt with.

Fayose said he released the cows to cement the relationship between the government, farmers and the Fulani herdsmen in the state.

Fayose said: “I have decided to release these cows to strengthen our union. So, I expect you to comply with the law because after now, ifyou contravene the law, we will take appropriate sanctions against you.”

The governor empowered the traditional rulers to enforce the grazing law in their domains and to apportion lands to herdsmen to do their businesses under a controlled situation.

There had been tension between the Ekiti state government and the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), the umbrella body for herdsmen in Nigeria after Fayose restricted the activities of the herdsmen and arrested some of them for flouting the law Ekiti state anti-grazing law.

The MACBAN group had also criticised Fayose for inaugurating a vigilante group, Ekiti Grazing Enforcement Marshals (EGEM), popularly called ‘Anti-malu’, describing it as a threat to banish its members from Ekiti state.

But Fayose in turn accused the federal government of siding with the cattle breeders to attack the Ekiti people.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that Ajayi died at 91 just 48 hours after granting an interview where he predicted how President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor would emerge.

He died at the early hours of Friday, November 4, 2016 at an undisclosed hospital.



In the interview yet to be released by the Nigerian Tribune, the late Ajayi further talked about a pact between the northern part of the country and some people based in the United States and Britain.

The late Ajayi reportedly complained about pains on Thursday afternoon and was taken to Lagos by his eldest son, Dr Konyin Ajayi.

He was said to have died hours later.

Sir Olaniwun Ajayi was born in Isara Remo, Ogun state on April 8, 1925, to the family of Mr Benjamin Awoyemi Ajayi, a farmer and Marian Efundolamu Ajayi.

The report said he had his early education at the Islamic Primary School, Epe, Lagos, but later enrolled into a primary school in 1937which he completed in Ode-Remo, Ogun state after-which authorities of the school engaged him to teach there due to his intelligence and excellent result.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has called on the judiciary to rise in defence of democracy by doing justice fearlessly, speedily and with honesty in the Ondo State election cases and other political cases before the courts.

Governor Fayose, who hailed the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa for the swift composition of a new panel to hear appeals over the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, urged the panel to be mindful of delay tactics by the same people who wrote frivolous petition to impugn on the integrity of the initial panel.

In a statement issued on Friday, by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose urged the new Appeal Panel to “do justice unto God and not unto powers that be and be mindful that justice delayed is justice denied.”

The governor condemned the silence of President Mohammadu Buhari on the Ondo State matter, saying; “Silence of the president on a matter that poses serious threat to democracy in the country is highly disturbing.”

He said; “No doubt, democracy in Nigeria is being threatened by the open collaboration of the APC led federal government with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and only a God fearing judiciary can save the situation from getting out of hands.

“In its desperation to distract the PDP and rig the Ondo State election in advance for the APC, INEC has chosen to abandon its own law by endorsing someone who did not emerge through any known electoral process as the candidate of the PDP, thereby plunging Ondo State into crisis.

“There is no doubt that all other political parties in Nigeria except the APC are now contesting elections against INEC. But like every afflictions of the Israelites, this too will not endure forever.

“The new Appeal Panel must therefore do its job speedily and timely so that the rez is not destroyed and in the process destroy what is remaining of our democracy. The panel should remember the Biblical Solomonic judgment that saved that harlot and her child and must not allow enemies of democracy to use delay tactics to frustrate the case.”

Speaking further, Governor Fayose said it was worrisome that in its bid to turn Nigeria to a one-party state, the judiciary was being harassed and intimidated to submission.

“We are at a critical junction in our history as a nation, noble men are becoming helpless daily and we need God to intervene through the judiciary.

“If the judiciary fails to rise to this perilous situation and save our democracy from the hands of the APC cabal, it will not survive the onslaught that will be brought on it sooner than later,” he said.

While calling on the people of Ondo State to stand up and defend democracy in their State, Governor Fayose assured that anti-democracy elements trying to manipulate the November 26 election in advance will be defeated by the collective will of the people.

He charged the APC led federal government to put food on the tables of Nigerians instead of preoccupying itself with its political expansion agenda.

The embattled governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming Ondo state election, Jimoh Ibrahim, has said it is too early for Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state to panic.

Speaking on Orange FM’s political programme in Akure, the Ondo state capital, on Tuesday, November 1, Fayose prophesied that the candidate of the factional PDP can never be governor of Ondo state.

Reacting to the governor’s statement in a terse message titled: ‘Fayose, too early to panic,’ Ibrahim said there was no need for Fayose to panic yet, Vanguard reports.

He said: “The crisis in Ondo state PDP has not degenerated to a situation where a judge was beaten up in his court during proceedings as it was in Ekiti State during Governor Fayose’s bid to become governor. There is no need for Governor Fayose to panic at this time as it is too early to do so.”

The PDP governorship candidate said the same horsewhip used for the incumbent Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, would soon be used on the Ekiti governor.

“Fayose is advised to wait till November 27 after the election in Ondo state, as we shall move to Ekiti in full force to enforce Justice Abang’s judgement, which also covers the executive of PDP in Ekiti state. Our movement to Ekiti will be in day time, so it is better for Fayose to prepare and also learn from the experience of Governor Mimiko, who was performing in Ondo until he was distracted by Governor Fayose.

“Let me remind Governor Fayose that I am not ex-Governor Fayemi and it is now a payback time to treat Governor Fayose exactly the way he treated Fayemi using the framework of how the clustering disaster was resolved in Ekiti State leading to Governor Fayose’s Victory.”

The PDP has been embroiled in crisis for sometime now and there seems to be no end in sight. The Ali Modu-Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party have been battling for the leadership of the party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had replaced Eyitayo Jegede, nominated by the Makarfi faction with Ibrahim. The elctoral body said it was obeying a ruling by Justice Okon Abang of an Abuja Federal High Court.

A chieftain of the PDP Chief Ebenezer Babatope accused President Muhammadu Buhari of being the brain behind the controversial emergence of Ibrahim.

Abubakar was appointed as the Sultan of Sokoto on November 2, 2006 to succeed his senior brother, Sultan Muhammad Maccido who died in a plane crash at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.

He is the 2oth Sultan and Titular ruler of the Sokoto Caliphate and the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims.

A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Hajia Fatima Mohammed has said that President Muhammadu Buhari must contest for the position again in 2019 or members of the party will protest in the streets nationwide.

Speaking in an interview with Leadership, Mohammed said the president has done quite well so far and should therefore go for another term in office to complete his enormous work.

She said: “I will score President Muhammadu Buhari 80 per cent so far. This is because during the era of Former President Goodluck Jonathan, even those of us in Abuja, couldn’t sleep with both of our eyes closed because of the unprecedented level of insecurity in the country. We could hardly go to market or worship centers.

“People were postponing events including weddings because of insecurity crisis. It is important that we do not forget where we are coming from so soon. Security is paramount in the life of any government. Since President Buhari emerged, we can see that the first thing he did was to focus on security and I give him 100 per cent for that.”

She noted that APC will overcome its current challenges and present President Buhari again in 2019.

She added: “…Buhari is for 2019. So, all those people eyeing 2019 should sleep. They should put their minds to rest. In 2019, there is no vacancy. We will mobilize for Buhari to contest in 2019. Four years is not enough for him to set Nigeria fully on the right path. He needs eight years to do that. He cannot bring somebody and expect him to work like him. We have seen instances where governor’s bring successors and they turn back to fight them and make a mess of the work.

“The gravity of work to be done in Nigeria requires a personality like Buhari to do it. Over the years things went wrong in the system. There have been systemic corruption which made it difficult for us to develop at a faster pace. We want Buhari to continue and we will take up placards, go to the streets and campaign for him to continue. I am one of those championing Buhari’s second term.

The president, she said will not reject the nomination or else there would be protests nationwide.

“He will not (decline). We will go on hunger strike to ensure he contests. We will go on the streets, I mean it. I will mobilise women and youths for Buhari. Four years is not enough to change this country. The anti- corruption war cannot be finished in four years. This is barely two years and we are having more corruption cases happening,”
she said.

Meanwhile, Governor Rochas Okorocha has expressed concern over the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) since it came into power more than a year ago.

The Punch reports that the chairman of the APC governors’ forum raised this concern when he visited the Senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki on Wednesday, November 2.

The Nigerian Labour Congress has threatened to resist the dismissal of its Ogun state chapter chairman Akeem Ambali and the chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers by the state governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Punch reports that the general secretary of the congress Peter Ozo-Eson said the decision of the state was illegal and that the labour movement will resist it.

On Monday, October 31, the Ogun state government dismissed the two labour leaders and suspended 14 other civil servants for committing offences contrary to the state civil service rule.

The state government also denied claims that the action was an aftermath of protest carried out by the congress members against the state.

“The NLC and the TUC’s combined team has already been dispatched to the state to intervene in the matter.”

“It means he has declared an industrial war and we will have no choice but to also ensure that industrial peace does not return to the state because such a sacking is illegal and we cannot allow it to happen.”

Meanwhile, Ambali has also said that the national presidents of NLC and TUC Ayuba Wabba and Boboi Kaigama alongside leaders of the National Joint Negotiating Council would participate in a rally by NLC Ogun state chapter.

The rally, Ambali said would hold at the state secretariat of the NLC in Abeokuta on Wednesday, October 2.

A Lagos-based lawyer and activist, Chief Malcom Omirhobo has dragged the federal government to court for rescheduling public holidays.

Omirhobo approached a Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday, November 1, asking the court to declare as unlawful, rescheduling of public holidays by the federal government.

The defendants in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) and the Minister of Interior, Lt General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd).

According to Vanguard, the plaintiff’s suit is brought pursuant to the provisions of order 3 rules six, seven and eight of the Federal High Court Civil Procedure rules of 2009.

Omirhobo is therefore seeking an interpretation, as to whether in the face of the Public Holidays Act of 1979, it is legal for the defendants to reschedule public holidays from Saturdays or Sundays to Monday.

He also seeks an interpretation whether it is lawful for the government to even extend public holidays beyond the days set out for them.

Omirhobo seeks the following interpretations

1. Whether it is lawful for the defendants to have declared May 2 (Monday) as public holidays for the celebration of worker’s day, instead of May 1 (Sunday).

2. Whether it is lawful to have declared May 30 (Monday) as public holidays for the celebration of Nigeria’s Democracy day, instead of May 29 (Sunday).

3. Whether it is lawful to have extended the Eid-el-fitri celebration beyond July 5 and 6, to July 7, making the holidays three days in a roll.

4. Whether it is lawful to have declared October 3 (Monday) as public holidays for the celebration of Nigeria’s 56th independence, instead of October 1 (Saturday) for which it was originally scheduled.

In summary, Omirhobo seeks a declaration, that the public holidays Act, is the law guiding the declaration of public holidays in Nigeria, and any declaration of public holidays without compliance with the Act, is unlawful and void.

Three months ago, the Nigerian government extended public holidays for the celebration of Eid-el Fitr following the announcement of Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, about the continuation of the Ramadan fast.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his commitment to making life better for Nigerians, noting that any Nigerian who has another country to relocate to is free to leave.

The President said this on Tuesday, November 1 while addressing Niger Delta stakeholders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“We are determined to make life comfortable and affordable to all Nigerians. If anybody has a country to go to, let him go, we will stay here and salvage our country,” Buhari was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu.

It said the President told the Niger Delta leaders that bringing peace to the region is dependent on their commitment to nation building.

He reaffirmed the determination of his administration to ensure its key campaign promises of securing the country, fighting corruption and creating jobs through the improvement of the economy are fulfilled.

He said peace, security, investment and prosperity are linked together, adding that “if we give peace a chance, investors will come here to invest. Nobody will invest in an insecure environment.”

Buhari said the problems his administration found on the ground were many, as illustrated in the collapse of oil prices, the inability of 27 of the 36 states to pay salaries, the absence of savings to fall back on and having to deal with an elite who didn’t seem to care.

According to him, all these problems made his government conclude that “life as usual is no longer affordable.”

The President added that the government will look into the 16-point request presented for negotiation by the Niger Delta leaders, in which they demanded oil blocks, award of contracts to indigenes of the region, among others.

Awka — The Federal Government says over 50 million Nigerians defecate in open places, a practice it said is not good and encouraging for the health condition of the citizenry.

The Mminister of Water Resources, Engr Suleiman Adamu, made the disclosure in Awka at the presentation of the Anambra State Open Defecation Free (ODF) road map, global Hand Washing Day and the crowning of the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano, as Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Ambassador.

Adamu, represented by Engr. Emma Eze, said such practice had set the country back in its resolve to meet up the Millennium Development Goals and called for an urgent eradication of the act.

He commended Anambra State government for presenting the ODF road map to the public, saying it would help prevent water-borne diseases in the state.

Earlier, the European Union had expressed concern over lack of access to clean water in the country, describing water and sanitation as prerequisite to the development of any nation.

The EU Representative in Nigeria, Ambassador Michel Arion Arion, who raised the concern, urged government to provide clean water to schools, hospitals and public places, to prevent children from contracting diseases like diarrhoea and cholera and possibly death.

The entrance of Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox popularly known by its abbreviation, MMM, into the country sent Nigerians into a frenzy as many hop into the quick-money train. The company which was founded in Russia 1989 by Sergei Mavrodi, his brother Vyacheslav Mavrodi, and Olga Melnikova recorded a rapid growth but in 1994, it came crashing down as it was closed over tax evasion.

Described as the biggest Ponzi scheme in the 1990s, it was estimated that thousands of people lost up to $10 billion dollars.



The scheme which has been banned in China has found its way to South Africa, Zimbabwe and recently Nigeria where it has attracted “investors” who put money into it and receive 30 per cent “profit” ant the end of the month.

Sergei Mavrodi was found guilty in 2007 in a Russian court of defrauding 10,000 investors and sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.

How MMM works

People are asked to register and put in money and after 30 days, they receive a 30 per cent profit plus the invested money.

Due to the larger number of people who participate, it is possible for money to circulate in a case described as robbing Peter to Pay Paul.

For example, if a person invests N10,000, he will receive N13,000 at the end of a month while there is also the promise of more money if an “investor” invites new people to participate.

Is it genuine of fake?

The Central Bank of Nigeria bank through its the acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Isaac Okoroafor, had warned Nigerians against putting their money in the MMM scheme as it could not guarantee the unregistered financial enterprise.

“At times like this when the economy has suffered some decline, Nigerians should be very careful with those they deal with. Any institution that is not licensed by the CBN to accept deposits should not be given money to keep under any guise.

“We can vouch for the banking system. The deposit money banks are the only licensed institutions to take deposits. If you need to deposit money in any form, go to any of the deposit money banks and put your money, you can buy fixed income instruments or invest in stocks.

MMM-COLLAPSED

“These people always come with very interesting propositions. These are fraudsters who are just out there to collect people’s money and run away as soon as they hit their target. There is no insurance because the NDIC does not even protect them against such risks when they occur.

” In September, it was reported that the scheme had crashed in Zimbabwe throwing a lot of investors awaiting their money into tears although the company denied it claiming it was going through reform.

Some Nigerians who have participated in the scheme have described it as an answer to their prayers in this economically-challenging period as its financial return in a short period was “better than what any bank can offer.”

Some people have testified to investing their money and getting “genuine” return which has gingered them to not only put in larger investment but invite and convince people of its legitimacy. Other people are afraid that there is a huge uncertainty about when it might end and therefore are cautious about putting their fund into it.

The leadership crisis rocking PDP has seen factions of the party loyal to Ali Modu Sheriff and those loyal to Ahmed Makarfi, clash in different states.

The ensuing leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resulted in a legitimacy tussle between factions of the party in Kwara state.

A faction of the party in the state loyal to the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee has taken over the party’s secretariat on Asa Dam Road in Ilorin.

Factional chairman of the PDP in Kwara, Sunday Fagbemi, on Monday, October 31, and some of his sympathisers stormed the secretariat early in the morning amid wild jubilation, claiming to be the authentic leaders of the PDP in the state, NAN reports.

The jubilant PDP supporters were sighted carrying placards with various inscriptions affirming Mr. Fagbemi’s leadership.

Speaking with the journalists at the secretariat, Mr. Fagbemi said his executive committee members remained the authentic leaders of the PDP in the state.

He said his committee was duly elected at the state congress of the party, noting that the appeal committee set up by the national body of the party also affirmed him as the state chairman in its report.

Fagbemi accused the other factional chairman, Akogun Oyedepo, of fraternising with the ruling APC in the state.

But in his reaction, the Oyedepo-led faction has described the invasion of the party secretariat by rival party members as a “coup and invitation to anarchy.”

The publicity secretary of the faction the party, Rex Olawoye insisted that Mr. Oyedepo remains the authentic state chairman of the party in Kwara state.

Mr. Olawoye said Mr. Oyedepo was in Abuja attending a national meeting of the party wondered what Mr. Fagbemi was doing in Ilorin if he was truly elected the state chairman.

He wondered why any group would forcefully enter the secretariat of the party when the party’s constitution stipulated normal taking over process.

He however said that the PDP was united in the state and all the differences would be resolved in due course.

Meanwhile, the PDP governors’ forum claims the APC is planning to rig the forthcoming Ondo governorship election.

The party which raised the alarm on Monday, October 31, said it was aware of APC plans to win the Ondo election by all means, including getting help from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement by its secretary, Patrick Okon, the governors’ forum asked President Muhammdu Buhari to direct the electoral commission to be fair in the conduct of forthcoming election, Daily Trust reports.

The national secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja has been thrown into darkness following the party’s failure to offset the N1.7 million debt owed Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.

According to Vanguard newspaper, the electricity company decided to wield the big stick, cutting off electricity supply to the secretariat and worsening its already decrepit state.

The report said the party has been starved of cash due to the current economic crisis but may have generated over N100 million this year from the sale of Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for Edo and Ondo States governorship primaries.

An electricity receipt pasted on the gate of the APC secretariat which was seen by Vanguard showed that the party had only recently paid N500, 000 of the debt.

Party officials said President Buhari has consistently refused to fund the party, just as state governors had refused to save the party from the embarrassing situation.

Meanwhile, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has lashed out at former President Goodluck Jonathan over the handling of insurgency during his tenure.

Mr Osinbajo said Mr Jonathan was never committed to ending the Boko Haram insurgency, thus the spread of the terrorist and kidnapping of several persons in the North-East.

An early morning protest has hit Akure, the Ondo state capital following the naming of businessman Jimoh Ibrahim as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission shocked the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the PDP with the naming of Ibrahim as the party’s candidate late Thursday, October 27.

With the naming of Ibrahim, it meant that Eyitayo Jegede, a former commissioner who was thrown up by the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, had been rejected.

The full list published by NAIJ.com late Thursday showed that Jegede, who had been campaigning vigorously, was not recognised by the electoral umpire.

Residents of the state are currently infuriated with some saying they would not support Ibrahim. The anger spread across the state capital this morning with irate residents blocking major roads and setting bonfires to protest against Ibrahim.

At the time of this report, a full statement was still being expected by the state government and the Makarfi’s faction of the PDP which had last night insisted on Jegede as its candidate.

Following the bribery allegation raised by the Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate, Jimoh Ibrahim, against officials of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Segun Agbaje, has threatened to sue Ibrahim for defamation.

Ibrahim had recently alleged that an official of the nation’s electoral umpire demanded a $1m dollar bribe from him to accept some court documents.

Ibrahim also accused the REC of proposing a meeting with him in London to discuss the Ondo election.

Speaking on Thursday in Akure, the state REC said he was set to file a court case against lbrahim for assassinating his character.

Agbaje said, “I intend to sue him (Ibrahim ) for defamation but when our national headquarters has a step in that direction, I stepped down my action. INEC will not do anything that will reduce the credibility it has built through the years.”

The REC assured the state of a free and fair election, adding that he would not be deterred by Ibrahim’s allegation against him.

He warned that those alleged to be cloning Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, if caught will be severely punished.

“We hear people are cloning cards to cheat during the election. Cloned cards will not work. The card reader will detect the cloned cards.

“Protect your cards, don’t sell them, it is a criminal offence. There will be enough card readers so that if any malfunctions, it will be immediately replaced,” he said.

It would be recalled that INEC yesterday replaced Eyitayo Jegede with Ibrahim as the PDP candidate in the state governorship election scheduled for November 26.

Attempt by the senate president Bukola Saraki to stop his trial at the code of conduct tribunal (CCT) met a brick wall as the Court of Appeal dismissed his application.

Sahara Reporters writes that the five-man panel of the Court of Appeal in Abuja said his trial should continue.

Bukola Saraki, the Senate president and chairman of the National Assembly now has to return to the dock at the CCT in November.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Wednesday struck out the application filed by Saraki challenging the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to entertain the charges against him.

Sahara Reporters writes that in a unanimous decision read by Justice Abdul Aboki, the five-man panel ruled that the appeal lacked merit and thus totally dismissed.

The court affirmed that the Tribunal had the power to entertain and try Saraki for the charges brought against him.

With the court ruling, Saraki’s trial at the CCT, where he is facing a 16-count charge of corruption and false assets declaration, will continue on November 7 and 8.

Saraki has been in Geneva, Switzerland since Sunday, October 23 where he led a National Assembly delegation to partake in the 135th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, with the theme: “The Role of Parliaments in Protecting Human Rights of Citizens.”

This could be a bit unsettling; why on earth would anyone choose to tamper with his natural looks by having horns on his head when he was not born with one? It is really mind boggling to think anyone would love beasts and animals so much he would be willing to switch places with them.

The young man in this piece is a Jamaican artist, he is known as Furtyle Brain. He wanted to change his looks so he consulted a Canadian surgeon who helped with the implantation of the horns. The most logical explanation for this would be to accept that the world is indeed coming to an end.

No one can really understand why any rational being would decide to have horns implanted in his head when he is not dressed up for Halloween. Finding the reason for his action may take the whole day as you may never be able to fully understand his reasons.

Thus, trying to think like Furtile Brain may be a futile endeavour. For something to be described as futile means it is incapable of producing any useful result. Why thinking about his reasons, try not to wonder what could have happened to his brain in the process if the surgery had gone wrong.

The New Media Citizens and Governance Conference, organized by Enough is Enough Nigeria, began on Wednesday in Abuja. According to the conference website, Bobrisky, who rose to fame in Nigeria from his viral and unusual use of Snapchat, is slated to speak on a Thursday session titled Engagement Unusual: Unconventional Uses of New Media.

Upon learning that Bobrisky, a flamboyant social media personality popularly known as “Africa’s First Male Barbie” , was invited to speak at the conference, a Twitter user implored the president’s aide to withdraw from the conference.

“I couldn’t picture you on the same panel with that idiot Bobrisky. Please don’t attend this conference,” he tweeted to Mr. Ahmad, to which he replied, “Okay, I will do that for you, NVM [never mind].” Ahmed shortly thereafter released a statement on his Twitter page formally announcing his withdrawal from the conference without giving reason for doing so.

Subomi Plumptre, a member of Alder Consulting’s Executive Committee, and social media influencer soon followed suit and refused to attend the conference. The consulting group released a statement explaining that the company had not been informed that Bobrisky would be included on the panel and formally withdrew from the conference.

According to a statement from Alder Consulting, Bobrisky’s presence would “sensationalize” and “radicalize” the event, which should “otherwise be a serious discourse on new approaches to media engagement.”

Why is Bobrisky Causing Such Uproar?

The sudden withdrawal of prominent panelists and the outrage expressed by many people on Twitter at Bobrisky’s presence at the conference is indicative of Nigeria’s sentiment towards homosexuality.

In 2014, former President Goodluck Jonathan signed a bill into law that prohibits same-sex marriage, civil unions and imposes prison sentences of up to 10 years for anyone who makes homosexuality public. This controversial law has been under scrutiny by Amnesty International, the United States Government and many other human rights organizations

In interviews, Bobrisky has neither identified as gay or straight and fans continue to speculate at his sexual orientation. The fact that he is called “Africa’s Male Barbie,” wears makeup, dresses in women’s clothes and has a ‘bae’ has caused a social uproar and viral success on Snapchat. Regardless of his sexual orientation, Bobrinsky certainly lives up to the title of his conference session and has something to say about using unusual ways to engage fans on social media. The Ijaw Youth Council has sent a message to militants in the Niger Delta region to allow President Muhammadu Buhari implement the project he has for the region.

Mr. Udengs Eradiri who is the president of the group spoke in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa on Wednesday, October 26 where he said that although Buhari’s body language seemed hostile at first, it was evident that he has changed and should therefore be given a chance to perform.

Eradiri applauded the plan to increase fund for amnesty and said such development be extended to other Niger Delta projects.

“The President may be doing the right thing but when there is delay, his body language may be misinterpreted. For instance, if this current step of the President had come earlier, l don’t see any sane agitator going against him.

“The President has taken an action. But did we have to lose all these lives, economy and all the constraints and emotional crisis before such a letter should be transmitted? Sometimes, when you do something late, it has repercussions. If the actions Mr. President is taking now had been taken earlier, we wouldn’t have got to this point where the economy will be lying prostrate. We need more proactive steps from the President.”

Eradiri also urged the president to ensure discipline in the utilisation of the allocated funds and prudent management by people who understood the problems in the region.

He said: “We want to also state that while approving funds for institutions like this, the anti-corruption drive must be activated to ensure that the institutions live up to their expectations to ensure that funds are not diverted.

“Those in the position to manage the amnesty office and other institutions addressing the issues of the region must be people who have knowledge of the issues. If he doesn’t have the right people to address the issues, even the funding will be misplaced.”

Former presidential spokesperson and widely-known newspaper columnist Reuben Abati were arrested on Monday by detectives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), SaharaReporters has learned. He was picked up in Abuja accused of receiving N50million from former NSA Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

Also under arrest is the former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed.

EFCC operatives searched the home of the former minister, who has been implicated in a series of billion-naira frauds relating to one of his sons, as well as former First Lady Patience Jonathan.

Dr. Abati was appointed Special Adviser on Media by President Goodluck Jonathan following the 2011 election. Since losing that position last year, he has taken no employment.

He, however, returned to his column at The Guardian, from where he had gone into government. Only on October 14 in that column, he published “The Spiritual Side of Aso Villa”, the seat of the presidency, in which he asserted that despite meaning well, President Jonathan and his government were held in “spiritual bondage” by unknown forces.

It is as yet unclear what charges the EFCC has again.

The Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole has said that it was a big privilege for him to present the staff of office to an Oba of Benin.

The governor made the statement when he addressed State House correspondents shortly after he paid a thank you visit to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Recall that the historic coronation of Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II took place in Benin on Thursday with Nigerians and people of other cultures in attendance.

“On my part, I felt very privileged.
“In my eight years of stewardship in Edo State that assignment of having to hand over the staff of office to the Oba of Benin is the most singular important event that God has given me the privilege to preside,’’ Oshiomhole said.

He said that the first time in the 1930s when Oba Akenzua ascended the throne that same staff of office was presented by the Queen of England when the country was under British colonial rule.
He added that in a recent time, the other time the staff was handed to an Oba was in the 1980s through a military governor who was not an Edo indigene.

“This is the first time an Edo man, full-blood son of the soil, decked in Edo costume, presented the most important staff of office to the man we all celebrate as the Oba of Benin,’’ he said.

Oshiomhole said that the attendance to the event by the Sultan of Sokoto,Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III and a host of other traditional rulers from across the country, was “extremely significant’’.
He said the Sultan was not only of Sokoto but the head of the Islamic Council in the country and was at the ceremony as the utmost religious leader in Nigeria.

“To have the Caliphate across the Niger, extending that hand of fellowship and brotherhood and bringing the Durbar from the Caliphate to Benin to celebrate the coronation of the Oba was historic.

“Those royal handshakes and bonds not only speak to history that had existed before the political amalgamation of Northern and Southern Nigeria.

“It shows that our people, regardless of those interventions by the British authority, that the bonds have always been there and that even today those responsible for our tradition are doing their part to sustain those bonds.’’

He said this was so important at this time that the political class was preaching to primordial sentiments in a manner that threatened the country’s unity when they were frustrated.

“I think that royal handshake and bonding shows that at that level of leadership, Nigeria is one and we are committed to one and indivisible Nigeria and those royal fathers have led us by example,’’ he added.

The governor observed that one of the weaknesses of our country “`is that we don’t celebrate our tradition.
“What was unique was that the Oba observed all the cultural rites in the installation, including the most tedious of trekking certain distance to his palace.’’

He said that the exercise was to enable the monarch to place himself in the position of the common man in order to administer the domain well.

“Seeking for those traditions was extremely important because if you do not understand the pains the people under you go through you can’t have empathy and cannot do justice to them.’’
The governor commended the Bini people for behaving in a mature and orderly manner during the coronation of the Oba in spite of the large crowd.

He said the disposition of the Bini and the attendance of many from across the divide elevated Edo to an uncommon height adding that it could not have been better than that.

The Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare II has ordered the immediate suspension of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in all the seven local government areas of Edo State which constitute the Benin Kingdom.

All land matters would henceforth be adjudicated by the Oba or through the Enogie or Edionwere and no longer through Community Development Associations.


The seven local government areas of the Benin Kingdom are Oredo (capital), Egor, Ikpoba Okha, Uhunmwode, Orhionmwon, Ovia South West and Ovia North East local government areas.

The Oba, who is the paramount ruler over the Edo South District of Edo state, has traditional right over all native lands in the kingdom, especially lands that falls outside the rights of the governor under the Land Use Act.

For many decades the Oba was in charge of adjudicating on land disputes throughout the district. But in recent times, especially since the advent of democracy in 1999, there had been a proliferation of so-called community development associations led by mostly thugs instead of community elders or true members of the community.

These so-called community development associations are not known to grade roads, control erosion or provide security for the community but they collect dues in hundreds of thousands of naira and oftentimes trouble land developers preventing them from developing lands through violence and intimidation.

Many of the CDAs are notorious for selling lands to more than one persons thereby creating lots of land ownership crisis in the state. Also they levy developers of lands all sorts of illegal and unaccounable levies which makes development of property in Benin frustrating and unattractive.

The pronouncement Sunday by the Benin monarch has elicited jubilation throughout Edo with many residents of Benin City hailing the decision as one of the best pronouncements since his ascension to the ancient throne.

Barr Abraham Oviawe, a civil rights activist and resident of Benin City hailed the decision at Agenda Setting forum saying “Great. Peace will reign in communities now”

Mr Austen Ehiguese said “The great Oba has just started well, God will bless him for us”

However many community development associations leaders, many of whom are leaders of a certain political party in Edo State, have started to murmur in hushed tones but in Benin the Oba’s word is law to a very large extent.

Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose has told Fulani herdsmen that should it unleash terror as planned on Ekiti indigene, the state and indigene will not hesitate retaliate.

Mr Fayose stated this when he addressed press men in Ekiti today, October 24, 2016 following reports that Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), the umbrella body of herdsmen in Nigeria openly threatened to wage war against the government and people of Ekiti State.

“From the words and antecedents of the Miyatti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, it is clear that they have assurance beyond their personal minds from the federal government to kill Nigerians in place of their cows. If not, by now, the man who signed that press statement, threatening the entire people of Ekiti State ought to have been arrested and questioned.

“Therefore, in view of the above, we wish to tell Nigerians and the entire world that in the event of any invasion of Ekiti State by killer herdsmen, the federal government should be held responsible.

“The herdsmen and those urging them on should also be informed that any attack on one Ekiti person is an attack on all Ekitis and we shall not sit back and allow our people to be killed under the guise of cattle rearing.

“In the event of federal government’s security agencies refusal to secure the lives and properties of Ekiti people, the people will have no option than to defend themselves. Our forefathers did same in the famous Kiriji War and we won’t mind doing the same now!

“I am therefore using this opportunity to put Ekiti people, especially residents of border towns in the State on red alert. Ekiti people must be prepared to defend their land against these Philistines whose attributes and characters are extremism, violence, bloodshed and destruction.

Governor Fayose said the Prohibition of Cattle and other Ruminants Grazing in Ekiti State Bill, 2016 that was signed into law on August 29, 2016 remains in force.

“Therefore, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria should rather tell its members to comply with this law by seeking from the government designated land for grazing ranch, which the government is always willing to give.

“It is strange that the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria kept silent when its members killed two people and injured several others in Oke Ako in Ekiti State. So strange that the same Miyetti Allah that defended the murder of over 1,000 Agatu people of Benue State and kept silent when herdsmen killed over 100 people killed in Enugu State and a traditional ruler was killed in Delta State suddenly found its voice when Ekiti State government decided to curb the murderous activities of its men.”

Fayose also took a jab at President Muhammadu Buhari for failing to address the herdsmen issue.

“The silence of the federal government has no doubt further confirmed the insinuation that there is plot to give tacit support to the herdsmen to invade some border towns and villages in Ekiti State and cause chaos in the State so as to justify the evil agenda of declaration of a state of emergency on the state.”

He said it is strange that the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria kept silent when its members killed two people and injured several others in Oke Ako in Ekiti State.

The Indigenous People of Biafra has rejected a new judge assigned to its leader Nnamdi Kanu.

The group in a statement said assignment of Justice Binta Nyako by the chief judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja is an attempt by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to jail its leader.

The group also raised concerns over various kinds of relationship between the new judge and President Buhari.

Justice Nyako, a wife to the former governor of Adamawa state Murtala Nyako was assigned by the chief judge of the Federal High Court Ibrahim Auta to take over Kanu’s matter.

Justice Nyako’s appointed as the presiding judge over Kanu’s matter came after the IPOB leader had appeared before three judges who had previously presided over his case.

Kanu was expected to be arraigned before Justice Nyako on Tuesday, November 8.

Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor had told earlier told Nigerianbreakingnews.com.ng that the matter was for arraignment and hearing of bail application for his client.

The first judge to handle Kanu’s case was Justice Shuiabu Usman of a Magistrate Court in Wuse zone 2, Abuja.

However, Justice Usman squashed all the charges against Kanu after the prosecutor, the Department of State Services (DSS) filed a motion for lack the court’s jurisdiction to hear the matter.

The case was later filed before a Federal High Court where it was assigned to Justice Adeniyi Ademola.

But on assumption of trial, Kanu, even before taking his plea, in an objection said he lacked confidence in the court.

After Kanu’s statement, Justice Ademola hands off the matter.

He also returned the case file to the chief judge of the Federal High Court Ibrahim Auta and the matter was later reassigned to Justice John Tsoho of the same court.

But after an alleged conflicting ruling giving on the issue of secret trial in favour of the DSS, Kanu in a petition asked the NJC to investigate Justice Tsoho.

He also filed an application asking the judge to disqualify himself from the matter. Finally, on September, 26, Justice Tsoho budged to Kanu’s application, he disqualified himself from the matter.

The IPOB leader is facing a three-count charge of treasonable felony among others leveled against him by the Department of State Services.

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered an investigation into the purchase and distribution of vehicles by his predecessors. It was gathered that the probe was informed by the discovery that retiring officers, including former IGs and Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, were in the habit of appropriating police vehicles for their personal use. Findings by our correspondent on Sunday show that the probe, which is being handled by the Special Investigation Panel, had identified and recovered 19 police vehicles from former IG, Solomon Arase.

Some of the vehicles include assorted sedans, Sports Utility Vehicles and pick-up vans.

The vehicles, it was learnt, were apart from the four vehicles he was entitled to take away with him on retirement.

A senior officer, who is familiar with the investigation, said the SIP was still working to recover five additional vehicles from the former police boss.

It was learnt that the SIP, headed by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ali Amodu, (retd.), had also recovered a number of police vehicles from other retired DIGs.

The recovered vehicles were said to have been distributed to newly promoted Commissioners of Police and AIGs.

The source said, “We are making progress in our investigations. We were able to trace 24 vehicles to the former IG and we have recovered 19 already. He has yet to release the remaining five, but we won’t let up until we recover all the vehicles. We have pictures of the vehicles and they have been documented, so he can’t deny it, the recovery is a fact.”

Arase had earlier denied taking away 24 vehicles when his successor, Idris, made the allegation during an interview with journalists on July 18, 2016, shortly after he assumed office.

Idris had further alleged that the seven DIGs, who retired alongside Arase, also carted away between seven and eight cars each.

Arase, however, denied the allegations of his successor, saying he did not go away with any police vehicle.

He said, “What am I going to do with 24 cars? Do I want to open a car shop? This is a malicious accusation. There are ways of verifying issues rather than engaging in media propaganda.”

Arase said all vehicles bought by the police under him were distributed to the state commands and other appropriate units of the Nigeria Police Force.

Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Rivers State Police Command, on October 18, 2016, smashed a baby factory at Etche LGA, Rivers State, Nigeria where one Reginald Akagbuto and four pregnant teenage girls were arrested. The four pregnant suspects arrested at the baby factory are: Oluchi Okorie, Chidinma Joseph, Ngozi Ekere, and Miracle Michael.

When interviewed, they confessed to have agreed with the Proprietor of the illegal factory, Akagbuto, to sell the babies for certain price depending on the sexes of the children. While the male child is for N150,000, the female is for N100,000.

They attributed their desire to sell the babies to lack of care and denial from their purported fathers.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects, the Rivers state Public Relations Officer, DSP Omoni Nnamdi said:

“the Commissioner of Police, CP. Francis M. Odesanya, once again wishes to reiterate his earlier stance to deal with all criminal elements in the state and urges the people to have confidence in his ability to reduce crime. He however, solicits for useful information from the public as crime fighting is not a one-man business.”
