Politics / Re: Cogent Reasons Why you should/ must Vote Buhari/Osibanjo.. by jdilight(m): 2:13pm On Mar 11, 2015
killerman47:
I happen to be an intellectual and as thus will not defy my high moral expectations by bringing trivial and irrelevant media propaganda cum calumny to the fore why allowing reasons and objectivism lie fallow. As a matter of principle I will be highlighting and discussing reasons why I (and i believe patriotic and nd intellectual luminaries should) vote for a Buhari/Osibanjo in the forth coming poles
My facts and information , that would be highlighted are excerpts from "My manifesto and vision for Nigeria" by Muhammadu_Buhari
N/B : please this is a highly intellectual discussion and as such, sentiments and trivialities are not welcome rather cogency and rationalism will prevail...

I will be torch- lighting Key topical issues and challenges of pressing import that has espoused our nation and Buhari 's pragmatic agenda for redress.

1) SECURITY .
a. "Consulting and work to amend the constitution to enable states and local governments to create city, local government, and state policing system , based on resources available at each levels; to address the peculiar needs of each community"
As we have always known the benefits of county, local govt. And the state policing systems can never be over emphasised, it has always been the bane behind the formidable security network of any nation as it incorporates everyone into a security chain and brings security personnel closer to the people with closer rapport; countries from U.S.A to Kenya operates on this system. The PDP govt. Has continually refused this system, instead choosing to uphold the long lost federal police, that can never and has never satisfied our security needs, but has continually failed us....
b. "I will NEVER leave the defence of the nation in the hands of hunters, children, civilian j.t.f and ex-militants"
No sane nation on earth does this, as it will always backfire in those child armies, fighting the system that created them ... culminating in discord and anarchy.. history holds numerous instances.... It creates a big dent on the integrity of ur security system..

More to fellow, anti corruption measures next...

How long will it take to study the security system of America or will he just import it wholesale and expect it to work in a country with many ethnic groups, cultural divide and religious differences.

What about senate approval of the constitutional amendment or do he think he will rule as a military leader?

Import this theory to reality
Politics / Re: How Mark Ruled Ashafa Out Of Order And Approved Obanikoro As A Minister by jdilight(m): 2:01pm On Mar 11, 2015
joedrae:
In spite of fierce opposition from lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the senate on Wednesday screened Musiliu Obanikoro for a ministerial position.

He was asked to take the customary “bow” – a preferential treatment for former senators – effectively confirming him as a minister. A row had broken out at the senate over the screening.
The first attempt last week had ended in chaos. Obanikoro, former minister of state for defence, resigned his position last year to seek the Lagos governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost to Jimi Agbaje. His renomination by President Goodluck Jonathan was opposed by senators of the APC over his role in the use of soldiers alleged to have manipulated the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti state. Gbenga Ashafa, the senator representing Lagos east, had raised a point of order challenging the attempt to screen Obanikoro. Ashafa, who said Obanikoro has a pending case in court, brought out a copy of The Nation Newspaper to butress his point. He further said David Mark, president of the senate and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were joined in the suit. But Mark ruled him out of order, saying the court is yet to serve him in that regard. “You don’t serve me on the pages of the newspaper. As far as I am concerned, there is no case in court, so I rule you of order,” Mark said

This is what am talking, a lot of bullshit in our news media houses.

A man has not been served but is on paper.

Thumb up Senate Mark.

Till this miscreants know that news means nothing than noise, they will not seek the right avenue of doing things.

Lol,

The details of the job are unimportant.

I am not asking for a 20,000mw facility. I am saying we have spent so much with little results.

We have spent so much and less than 5,000MW has been added. That is waste

It exposes the waste in the system,.

Are we not carrying out feasibility studies before building plants?

You compared the plant in china to Nigerian situation and assumed the prices are inflected. I tried showing you what makes prices of project differ but it seems to high to be comprehended by you.

Politics / Re: 13 Presidents That Are Older Than Buhari by jdilight(m): 1:30pm On Mar 11, 2015
babaearly:
When it comes to leadership capability and coompetence is probably more important than age. Below is a list of presidents who rose to lead their individual countries at ripe old age – are they doing well? Well, you be the judge!

Ellebn Johnson Sirleaf became President of Liberia at age 70 in 2006. She was 75 in 2011. She will remain president till 2016, when she will be 80 years.

President Jacob Zuma of South Africa is 72 years old. He will be president till 2019 when he will be 77 years old.

Nelson Mandela, was born 1918, became President of South Africa in 1994 at 76 years old. He was still the President in 1998 when he stepped down for Thabo Mbeki at age 80. If he had served two terms, he would have been 84.

President Peter Mutharika of Malawi was 74 when he was sworn in on 31 May, 2014. He will be president till 2019 when he will be 79 years.

President Alpha Conde of Guinea is now 76 years old.He was sworn-in in December 2011 at 72 years old .

President Jose Eduardo Santos of Angola is 72 years today. He will be president till 2020 when he will be 78 years old.

President Abde Bourtefilka of Algeria is 77 years old, and will be in office till 2020 when he will be 83 years old.

President Alasanne Quattara of Ivory Coast was 72 years in 2012 and will be President till 2016 when he will be 76 years old.

Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has been president since 1985.He won another seven years- term in 2013 at 77 years, and will be president till 2020 at 84.

President Jose Mujiaga of Uruguay was 75 years old when elected. He is now 79 years old.

President Tedoro Oblang Nguema Mbasogo, Equatorial Guinea, was born January 6, 1942. He is 72 years old and still going on.

President Michael Sata, Zambia, is 77 years-old. He became president Sep 23 2011 at 74, and will rule till 2016 when he will be 79 years old.

President Paul Biya of Cameroon is 81 years old. He will be in office till 2017 when he will be 84 years old.

President Milos Zeman of Chech Republic is 70 years old and will be in office till 2018 when he will be 74 years old.

Ronald Reagan, was born February 06, 1911, became US President at 70, and served two terms before retiring in 1989 at age 78.

I think the current presidential campaign should be issue-based, using age as a criteria for soliciting for vote is too trivia. Let’s know what you are bringing to the table whether you are 2-year-old or 590-year-old.

Common sense an old man say is not common

Buhari bought a presidential form, picked a vice and kick of his campaign. Few days after that, he was rumoured to have been flown abroad for medical check up. Since coming back he has not appeared in any campaign scene. It has been Osibanjo (the vice) campaigning here and there for the Presidential aspirant (Buhari).

This call for enquiry into the military regime of Buhari. Buhari was said to be so complaisant in office that his vice (Idiagbo) of blessed memory single handedly ran the government. No wonder at the coup that remove the docile head of state, his life was spired while that of his vice was taken.

The same sereno is playing out again. Buhari has assume a docile disposition again while his vice is taking the heat.

Why is buhari always hiding behind the curtain of strong figures and taking credit for their jobs?

30 billion dollars is more than enough to fix Nigeria's generation.

I mentioned earlier than China three gorges dam generates 22,000MW and cost less than 25billion dollars..

We do not have up to half of that despite spending more.

This is the problem that arise when academic professors go into governance or business. They fail abysmally.

How many percentage of the plant components china used in building their plants where locally sourced?

Was the company a china company?

Where the work force all from china?

What was the distance between plant and equipment to site?

just to name a few of the things that can make a huge financial difference in building the two plants by different nation.

There we go again, the same excuse of it takes a long time to build power plants. I tell you it doesn't take more than 3 years to build a sizeable power plant from concept to commissioning if the will is there. I just gave an example of Germany which built solar plants in a year. We need to have an energy mix as a country. I remember that during Yar'Adua's tenure, gas pipelines to the power plants were being constructed (I saw them with my eyes, so what happened to those pipelines?) Then we were told that there wasn't enough gas due to vandalism by the militants. Now that the militants are in hibernation, why don't the plants still have gas?

3 Years to build a plant and gas pipeline where being layed.

The President has said we will witness the good effect of the power sector in his next tenure which is in accordance with your post.

So relax put on your sit belt and enjoy the Nigeria of your dream in Goodluck next tenure.

We have spent over $30 bn dollars since 1999 with no significant improvement.

In four years, enough generation can be added to meet Nigeria's needs..

Stop defending mediocrity..

Government allows for plants to be built with no infrastructure to get gas to them...

Many of the plants commissioned by GEJ were initiated by OBJ.

How will you build gas infrastructure without plant?

You incorporate all in your plan and start with the plant.

30 Billion dollar siince 1999, how many before 1999?

They knew we want quick result. If we want lasting result they will give it to us but with patience. One administration will not do it.

America of most people dreams were not a quick fix scheme.

Now snap out of your day dream. No government can build a power sector that can take care of its nation in 4 years not even in 10 years.

With the investment in the power sector, we deserve much more.

In 1999, we were less than 2000MW, now we are about 4,000MW.

That looks like improvement until you consider the massive resources spent.

Are you saying there has not been any investment in the power sector for the last 40 years?

This administration has built power stations what its doing its building gas pipelines that will supply the stations with light and get them connected to national grid.

Now this is where ordinary Nigerian miss it. This power stations can not give us light until they are supplied gas and the power connected to national grid.

Its a phase by phase thing. A child must be born before he/she can run.

Just imagine the President did what other President has been doing. Upgrade a few components of the existing power stations to add 3000mW which will be worn out in 4yrs time and the circle starts again.

Bro, building is the hardest job and many are not willing to undertake the responsibility, according to my boss. You have to get down to the ditch to dig the foundation and its never pleasant. We are praised when our building rise not when we are at the foundation.

Thanks though in 2011 it was less than 2000mW. But lets assume it was 4000mW.

For 50yrs including the power the British left us, we were able to maintain 4000mw. Comparing 40 years of 4000mW with 500mW of 4 year with many power stations waiting to add to the power sector, an academic professor will call it failsure but a business man will call it success.

What l want you to know is, we measure success when we compare where we are from where we came from and how much in time and resources has been invested.

Success is not comparing yourself with others because you will cut corners trying to catch up as we have been doing since independence.

You must be a joker.. I have an advanced degree on energy from one of the world's top universities.

First of all, at independence, there was no such thing as NEPA. It was known as the ECN. Electric Corporation of Nigeria.

NEPA was formed in 1972.

Leaving light on is senseless, what an electric utility would do is economically dispatch its generators to meet demand.

As regards infrastructure, even if everything was perfect, we are still not generating enough. And there is a solution to this, the government can opt for distributed energy sources that can feed into the grid if necessary. While we develop our transmission infrastruture to make it smarter.

In 2007, Nigeria reached a peak of 4000MW, today our peak is just 4,500MW.. Right now, we are generating less than that.

People talk about privatisation. A poorly deregulated system is worse than mediocre regulation. We had an example in California where deregulation led to more black-outs.

4 years is more than enough to sgnificantly improve power, this government has failed to do so.

You sound like most of the professor destroying our universities. All they talk about is what other people has done but they do nothing.
