BusinessRe: Naira Now 172 Naira To A Dollar. Why? by jeffmyson(m): 6:41am On Nov 14, 2014
The fact remains that the dollar against the naira has been artificially pegged by the CBN through its various interventions in the Money Market with our scarce reserves. I am of the opinion that the CBN should devalue the naira and allow the market forces to determine rate not speculations. The Russians tried as much as they could to defend the Ruble and finally threw in the towel some few weeks back and allowed the currency to slide! When speculators found out that there is no money to be made, they left the market and the currency is stable now but a significant depreciation.

The real price of dollar should be around N200 to N230. A weak naira is even an advantage to the economy as it will discourage imports and spur industrialization. The problem is we are an importing nation with everyone trying to join the import business even here in Nairaland you find lots of advert on imports businesses. Every clown in Nigeria wants to become an importer as that has become a toga of status 'I am an importer". A devalued currency will encourage exports and make imported commodities uncompetitive. People will have to start putting on Aba made Shoes, made in Nigeria cars will sell, made in Nigeria diapers will sell, made in Nnewi spare parts will sell, made in Lagos clothes will sell, made in Kano Fabrics will become competitive. Nigerians should learn to consume local things, its our pride.

My take is that the naira slide is caused by our incompetent economic managers since 1979, who failed to steer the economy away from resource dependence to Industrialization. GEJ is not the problem, the market is just reacting to its forces. A weaker naira is a good omen for me.
BusinessRe: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by jeffmyson(m): 7:56pm On Nov 13, 2014
The biggest fear I have is the falling price of crude oil. If this trend continue, government might not be able to meet its obligations and some programs might become casualty (Youwin, God forbid). One analyst on CNBC was predicting a fall in price of oil to $30 in few months time.

It is high time our government try and diversify our economy from oil to a manufacturing one and the government should seriously consider de valuing the Naira so that its real value can be determined by market forces rather than speculation.

I really pray Youwin begin disbursement with weeks to enable us get on with our businesses and start creating those value and jobs. The longer they take to disburse, the less value our grant awards become.
BusinessRe: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by jeffmyson(m): 3:48pm On Nov 10, 2014
@bamistol, I believe your initiative is laudable however I would like to point out some issues and then you weigh your options.

1. Youwin is a Bipartisan program and was initiated by the FMF to support young people in business. In as much as it was the Jonathan Government that started it, it is a Pan Nigerian program that has rewarded youth irrespective of their political affiliations. I think it would be inappropriate for you to go to that declaration with that Message as it could dilute the image of the youwin program as a Political program.

2. Do you know that the Youwin words and Logo are brands that are copyright protected. I think you need to take permission from the Youwin secretariat in order for you to go ahead with your plan. Please refer to your Legal agreement which you signed with Youwin on proprietary use of Youwin Logo and wording.

3. It is my ultimate believe that you could contribute to the Re-election of the president in a more constructive way by registering as a voter and then campaigning for him door to door in your neigbour hood and then help convince eligible voters to vote for him and you can mention the youwin program as one of his achievements and use yourself as an example of the Good works the president has done through the Youwin Program.

God Bless you!

@Bigboyz32, the TIN man need not visit your premises for any inspection before you get your TIN. He simply preyed on your lack of knowledge about how TIN works. FIRS has made it abundantly clear that you go to FIRS office with your registration documents and get TIN number, that's all.

Secondly what stops you from taking them to your home. People do business from their home, the law does not forbid you from running a business from your home. Its called "SOHO", small office, Home Office.

Please don't justify your actions. Go that link and report it. What the FIRS man did was wrong.

Cheers
BusinessRe: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by jeffmyson(m): 6:24pm On Nov 05, 2014
@Blink182 what do you want to be realistic? What those guys did was wrong and they should never have given money for something that was free!. For the avoidance of doubt! This so called FIRS guy will be emboldened now to collect money from others who might not be able to afford it.

Those guys could have gotten their TIN number without paying if they had wanted to! However they choose to pay and therefore aided and abetted the corruption of a treasury official.

Please all awardees! If you are asked for bribe for TIN by any FIRS official, simply go to the link I posted and report it, you can choose to be anonymous.

Thank you!
BusinessRe: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by jeffmyson(m): 5:42pm On Nov 05, 2014
@Bigboyz32, what the FIRS official did was unethical and fraudulent. You and others who also paid such a bribe (egunje) are also culpable. I expect better from all youwin awardee's, you have got here on merit and I expect all awardee to incorporate ethics in your business and avoid fraud, bribery and corruption in your business and daily life. Youwin awardee's are the future of a "New Nigeria".

Please kindly go to this link and report this unethical behavior to the FIRS for immediate action. www.firs.gov.ng/aboutus/Pages/Fraud-Alert.aspx

For the avoidance of doubt, FIRS abhors such behavior as reported by you, you can choose to be anonymous in your submission . TIN is FREE and no one should extort you to get it. Also make sure you never patronize touts at FIRS offices, Go inside yourself and make your enquiries and transact your business.

I know in your desperation to getr things done, you might be tempted to cut corners, however our life as a nation has been like this because people deliberately refuse to follow the due process.
God bless you!
BusinessRe: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by jeffmyson(m): 8:56pm On Nov 04, 2014
@ Manya, simply go there with the necessary documents to open the account and just give them 7.5K, they will not reject it and you will be done.

Zenith Bank sucks to be candid! The most annoying thing is there lack of clues about youwin and what they will do next! Some of them said they have not seen any circular from head office about it!

Cheers
BusinessRe: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by jeffmyson(m): 4:51pm On Nov 04, 2014
Also some banks are asking awardee's to bring initial deposit ranging from 20K to 50K.

Those guys at Zenith Asked me for 50K initial deposit, I refused. I simply asked them the cost of the search fee, which is 6K and the cost of cheque book, which is N1050, I just deposited 7.5K and left.

I have my details now, just waiting for further instructions from Youwin!

Anyone here know when the presidential award will hold please?
BusinessRe: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by jeffmyson(m): 4:29pm On Nov 04, 2014
The only issues I have so far is that Zenith Bank (North East Awardee's) is not coordinated at all. Some of the desk officers we called claimed as of yesterday claimed that they not been informed or they seen any memo from management regarding the account for youwin awardee's.

When I called the guy simply said I should walk into any Zenith Bank and Open the "normal" corporate accounts. When I asked him, how youwin secretariat will get the Account, he simply said all the awardee's will be responsible for sending it individually to Youwin.

However, I was surprised to learn about the Access Bank set up for sweeping accounts to Youwin and I was also told by an Awardee in Kaduna that Stanbic IBTC called him and even came to his shop to deliver the account opening package with a further promise to pick it up the next day and that was same with many awardees in North west.

I really don't understand the situation with Zenith Bank or the arrangements, but I am of the opinion that there is an information gap between youwin and some of the banks or maybe some of the banks lack coordination's.

I really pray that the banks will not unneccesarily delay the tranche payment. Also some awardee's are even yet to start the account opening process which could also delay the payments.
BusinessRe: Youwin Business Competition 2013 by jeffmyson(m): 11:21am On Nov 04, 2014
@denn is 100% right. There is no way a Bank will open any account (especially a business account) without first getting the documentations from the proposed account owner. Definitely banks have number ranges they can assign to customers, that does not in anyway mean that an account has been pre-created for you.

What I understand with access bank is that some few marketers or "Oga at the top" has cornered the accounts and wants to use it to meet targets. Also there is no such thing as sweeping accounts to Youwin! Everyone will be asked to submit their account details to youwin at a later date.

I was asked to open at Zenith bank, I called the help line provided by youwin at the bank and they told me to walk into any zenith bank branch and open my account! The guy said Youwin will ask us to send the account individually, there is no special arrangements.

Thank you.
AgricultureRe: Daily Price Of Foodstuff And Commodities Uploaded by jeffmyson(m): 11:32am On Oct 31, 2014
@Op I think some of your indicated prices are not correct market price of the commodities. Its either you are not able to determine the weight or the stated prices given to your was misinformed. For example you stated that a 50 Kilo of Garri Cost N3,500. This is incorrect as it translate to N70 per kilo which is not possible even if the producers get cassava at a ridiculous low price. I also find similar issues with Tomatoes and Soya bean.

I have been following your thread and all your prices are significantly understated as obtainable from esoko commodity index.

Please double cross and check the correct weight before you post!.

Thank you.
