Hoephase: The problem with Nigeria is that we never plan we are also reacting instead of taking initiative like other countries. EU are still biting their fingers for not reacting early, yet we still allow people from high risk area to come and go as pleased.
Seeing what is going on in Italy and for EU to put their country on lock down this is not a joking matter.
In fact our best option would have been to close borders and take it from there. Now that we have enough cases quarantine is not going to be effective in Nigeria.. Majority of the population work in the informal sector, how in health are we going to keep them indoors for a considerable number of days unless we declare state of emergency and place 24 hours curfew.
Please those people with big brains on the forum should come forward with their take on this matter. You are right. Seeing how we dont have enough facilities in this country to take care of patients, we have to impose d curfew right now and cut off the chain of the spread..wait for a few weeks then those who end up having the symptoms can report themselves. We keep doin that until the incubation period of the disease has passed then we can resume our normal lives. Although there is the issue of people not reporting themselves if they have the symptoms. If we dont cut this now, the health care systems will be overwhelmed and cause a major disaster. |

Oshigun: Will you people stop spreading ignorance that is leading to panic? The virus cannot survive exposure to temperature above 26. Temp is above 30 constantly in Nigeria. It was 34 in Lagos yesterday and 28 right now which is one of the cooler days. It is therefore going to be hard for the virus to gain traction in Nigeria.
Furthermore, majority of the fatalities have been elderly people, with perhaps lower immunity, and people with underlying health conditions. Most healthy people recover from the virus with many registering only mild symptoms like Mikel Arteta the manager of Arsenal football club.
Work is ongoing desperately and actively as well worldwide to produce a potent anti-virus for Covid-19.
This is a time for the educated and exposed to be agents of reassurance to those who are anxious and scared rather than be instruments of scare mongering and panic some of you are turning yourselves into because of primordial hate of the FG or others. Remember you are either part of the problem or the solution. Choose which you want to be. All these social media "Experts" Please Google the temperature in places like Saudi Arabia and also google how many cases of Covid-19 they have there and stop spreading misinformation. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Atheist Society Of Nigeria Lodges Appeal Against Akwa Ibom Intl Worship center by Jeromejnr(m): 6:50pm On Mar 17, 2020 |
kingxsamz: If you were intelligent enough, you'd know that atheists are just normal citizens like you. Atheism is not a religion and therefore, should not be compared with Christianity.
The question 'what have atheists contributed'? is illogical and devoid of sense and reasoning. It's a question which is expected from a primary school student. The governor of Lagos state could be an atheist, the vice president could be an atheist. That selfless man who lives in your street who used his own money to fix your street's road could be an atheist. Anyone could be an atheist. Your problem is that you confuse Atheism with religion. That's where you need to educate yourself. So demanding something from a group of people because of their lack of belief in your religion is totally senseless.
Now, according to the bullcrap you wrote, about traditionists not contributing to the society, does it mean that if believers of tradition should begin making contributions to the society and the masses at large, then it's okay for the government to use funds meant for something more relevant to build shrines all over the state? Answer this question. Will you consider it right if the government used state funds to build shrines all over the region just because traditionalists are making certain contributions to the society?
It's a shame that we have people like you in this country, honestly. Sigh! Dude, you are not smart enough. An Atheist is not a normal person on the street. An Atheist holds a particular set of beliefs such as other religions. And what is that belief? That there is no God. (You can check the meaning online and educate yourself). A normal person on the street will be someone who is not sure. Either there is or there is non. But they do not really care. Or pursue such knowledge or even chase around Christian's arguing online. Therefore my earlier question is not illogical but makes a lot of sense for the intelligent. As for your second question, I have a lot to say to you but I cant type much. But anyways, The state that started all these arguments is building only one Church and not Churches around the state. Secondly, If you can prove Shrines have contributed immensely to the masses, I see no reason why Govt cant lay their support to these as far as they dont use all state funds and neglect their primary duties of providing the basics amenities (Roads, Good Education e.t.c). But guess what? The Churches already do most of these things the Govt are supposed to do. (A scenario) So If I as a governor, a Christian, sees that the Chruch does more than what I entrust to my subordinates in ensuring some projects are done and I notice these guys always loot part of these monies and end up either neglecting the project or doing half baked jobs, can't I show my support to the Church who has done a much better job with various projects and contributions? Did the Governor say he has used up all the State funds for the Church? Why don't you Google and read up on how Governments of other countries supports Private Philanthropists and how they actually work hand in hand on projects. An Example will be 'Grants' issued. The amount of Grant some Organisations even get from Govts are more than what is to be used on this Church and you are lamenting. And please do not say the Church is not Philanthropic, because you and I both know that will be untrue. |

kingxsamz: I'll keep saying it, most Nigerians are dumb, and you're not excluded. So church and charity are the same now?
Using state funds meant for good roads, provision of good water systems, and Healthcare in funding church buildings is something which will only favor the Christians. Churches in Nigeria are more than enough and we don't need more. Building churches is not even the problem, but using funds meant for the improvement of the society to build churches for one's religion is totally bias. The Atheist association are clamoring for something which will benefit the citizens of Akwa Ibom, but the hate in your heart won't let you use your brain for once.
Let me ask you one question. Let me know if there's still any atom of sense in your head.
What would you do, and how would you feel if your governor who's a traditionist should use state funds meant for the benefit of every individual, from Christians to Muslims, to atheists, to build shrines all over the region?
Answer this question and prove to us that you're not as daft as you appear. And why should I answer you when you have refused to answer my question? How will I educate you now? As to your first paragraph, What is charity? I know in your mind you think charity is about giving money. But charity is a means of alleviating burdens off a group of people and proffering solutions to their problems. 1.The Atheists and the church, who has helped in easing peoples burdens even if it is psychological? 2. Is it all the state funds the govt is using to build the church? You all make much ado about nothing when it is the same churches who give to charity, build schools and even fix roads in some instances. Now for your question, which you think I will dodge: Even you know that Christianity has contributed a lot to people's welfare, whether its financially, educationally or psychologically, even Islam contribute their own quota in charity. Now have you Mr. Man, with your silly question seen any traditionalist significantly contribute to the masses at large? Or what contribution can you pose for the use of shrines? Why should the govt then build shrines? Why should we allow it? But now, you will say, ha, why would I complain for a traditionalist? But this question is where I have problem with most illogical and shallow thinkers on this forum. So let me help you. This argument started because I made a statement, this statement had a question which then formed the basis of the statement. The question had a subject, and that subject was "contribution". The object to this question was the "Atheists". Question: What has the Atheists contributed? This question implies, Churches must have contributed something, and Atheists nothing; therefore they have no basis for their rants. As for your shrine matter, I would not rant if I can see significant contribution to the masses. But you have no proof of contribution. And your rant against Chruch and charity is misaligned. Therefore your question is silly. |

gentlegenius: Chairman use your sense... These people are not fighting Christians. They are fighting against the government decision to use public funds to erect a building that will only be used by a particular religious group. Imagine if Akwa Ibom government were to spend that 10 billion naira to build a mosque... Don't you think Christians would have complain, and even sue the government to all the available courts in the land? I am from Akwa Ibom, and I've been living in the state since 2015 when this useless governor took over from Akpabio. I am aware of the huge amounts of tax payers money this governor had been wasting to fund church projects so that people will see him as a man who love God. Both Christians and Atheists are paying tax in this state, so why should the government use public funds to sponsor Christian affairs? We still have people in this state who follow traditional religion, and they are paying tax, so when will the government build a traditional worship center for them? Is this not daylight robbery? Besides, There's no government's annual budget that made provision for religious funding, so it is unconstitutional for any government to fund any religious project. I am not an atheist, but I support them to pursue this case to the supreme court, and we must continue to criticize this useless governor until he act sensibly. Tax is not only paid by Christians. I am a citizen of Akwa Ibom. I am neither a Christian nor an atheist, but I pay tax in this state. Why should a governor, because he's a Christian, use tax payers money to sponsor only Christian affairs? If he was building a mosque with 10 billion naira, will you as a Christian support it? Was there any provision in the state budget to spend 10 billion on Christian worship center? Why is the governor so bent on building this worship center despite the wide condemnation the project had received across the state? He is spending more money to defend the project in court and you think he doesn't expect any financial benefit from this project. Pls open your eyes... This is coded corruption because they always hide behind projects like this to steal public fund, and you are there clapping for them. You know why African leaders are so corrupt? It is because we the followers are too sentimental, and it is sentiments that make us support even the most corrupt leaders to keep stealing public funds. You people should use your sense abeg. I don't care nor do I support what ever is going on in your state. I was only addressing the rubbish some atheists were saying. That was why I started by saying 'for the sake of argument'..... I notice people just talk without proffering solutions and because they assume they are more intelligent. Herd mentality. |

kingxsamz: You want Government to use state funds to build churches but don't want churches to pay taxes. You're high.
The rest of the bullcrap you wrote shows you're unintelligent. You didnt refute my argument so I will pass. Will the Govt require Bill Gates to pay taxes on his monies as he donates to charity? Why do people who donate massively to charity gain tax exemptions? Do you even know what taxes are for? If someone helps the govt alleviate a big problem for the masses, why will dey still charge him for taxes? Most of you talk without reasoning. The question still is what have you contributed to society? have you provided any solution? |

Keiyadosh: small sense like this u no get... Religion has beclouded your sense of reasoning...Why should the tax of people ( Pagan, atheist,, Christians, Muslims) be used to service the needs of any religion??is that why Taxes are being paid??How is building a church contributory to the development of the state?we have the biggest men of God in Nigeria yet we are still one of the most backward states....I am a Christian but these guys have a fair point... Governmental resources should stop being used to fund pilgrimages,,build churches or mosques...it is a stupid and backward thinking and the fact that u support means u re...........as well For the sake of argument I will say this: And why shouldn't the tax be used for this service? Atheism has contributed nothing but depression and lack of purpose in life. Statistics show that people who attend worship centres are more mentally healthy and live longer because they feel they have a sense of purpose in life. Your fellows who are depressed, have you been able to cure them? The govt knowing the benefits of Churches have decided to contribute to its growth but you here are spewing crap. Atheists believe everything is money and economic growth. But I wonder why many rich folks in first world countries are depressed, empty and suicidal. What good is a country with so many depressed humans. If you know you don't have the cure to these things step aside and let the govt do their thing.
