cut it out guys, this is becoming a bit embarrassing. There's no need to shove our opinions each other's throat. If I object to your beliefs it doesn't mean I am attacking you. For all we know, any of the both parties can be right/wrong. My own belief is that nobody is completely right and nobody is completely wrong.
Personally my spirit doesn't agree with most government grants and all those their program because of personal reasons and experience. but I encourage anybody who wants to try to keep trying, you never know where your help is.

People really need to work with knowledge to achieve more thus the need for training. Nigerians here who l have inspired into agriculture are making out time to learn cultivating crops that would see them living comfortable when they relocate back.
Perfectly agreed
Every aspect of agriculture needs training. Practical on field training to understudy the crop one wants to deal with.
Issue with us in Nigeria is we do a lot of crash programme and later start shouting.
That's why the opportunity is being presented for intending and interested farmers.
We need to get our hands dirty.
The opportunity in agriculture is vast

Wot i does is dat i first clear d land wit cutlass and then use spade or hoe 2 mix d soil and then make platform frm it and then spread d planting material on d platform, cover it wit light soil and then cover it wt palmfrond.pls ma if possible give me practical video of how u re doing it.thanks.i mean online video.
Please get some practical experience from a practising farmer nearby. The nursery is the most delicate part of growing vegetables.
You also need to apply poultry waste and sawdust or rice shaft to your soil before planting.
The quantity applies also affects your germination rate.
I know there are some online videos but i don't have.

Land preparation has started for tomatoes, pepper and all sort of vegetables. Most of this vegtables takes 3 months to harvest. For those that want to meet the month of May, June July and August, the time is now. If you stay in the village like I do, most times rain are not consistence so please ensure you prepare for some irrigation
Vegetables are the best crops to quickly break even but they are also the most delicate to maintain.
I tells people the millions is there yet the risk is there. The YOP1 project team can attest to that.
I dont do farm set up but I can give practical on farm training.
The training aspect can be replicated in the trainees farm and I can support with my technical know how.
For any one that produces the desired quality and standard will be link to market.
What the market demands is consistency and quality.
Wishing you all a happy planting season.
Farm work has commence fully. I may not attend to calls on time. Best means of communication will be my mail. Except for exceptional cases, I do attend to my mails promptly.

AgricultureFruits And Vegetable Agribusiness Trainning by jethro2(op): 8:45pm On Mar 05, 2015
Fruits and vegetable farmers have not been accessing standard vegetable market because of some production and marketing factors.
For producer to access market, certain steps must be taken among which are:
1 Producing good and quality produce to attract premium price
2 Be able to supply the market consistently throughout the year
3 Uniformity in \the quality of produce from one location to the other.
4 Implementing cost effective management to beat down the price of produce
5 Deepening and upscaling ones product to stand out
6. Getting the right price at the right market for fresh fruits and vegetables within and outside the country

Intending farmers and agribusiness personel will be exposed to what it takes to surmount the above mentioned status in order to access market at the proposed training being organized by
Entrepreneur Youth Cooperative, AFGEAN in partnership with
Agricultural Fresh Growers Producers Exporters Association of Nigeria (AFGEAN) and IFDC 2SCALE

Practical aspect will involve but not limited to
. From Nursery to market of various vegetables e.g Tomatoes, Cucumber. Green Pepper etc
. Maximizing Agribusiness Ventures.
. Access to fresh vegetable market when quality and standard is met
. All year round supply of fresh fruits and vegetables.
. Information on Fresh Fruits and Vegetable export market

The same way people mocked YouWIN and said it was all propaganda until winners started getting alerts. What does it take him to apply? Brother please stop searching for what does not exist. Its all propaganda. The YEAP was claimed to have been existing since 2012. There was an advert where they name some bogus beneficiary for something that was launched in November or December.

The contacts I have are not buying well. I will give you their numbers if you want. Who knows? They buy between N10,000 - N11,000 per tonne. You will bear the cost of transportation to the factory and they pay between 3 to 4 weeks after supply.
Please send me a mail at adesola_yinka@yahoo.com or send an sms to my phone to get the numbers if you will need it

Ok, I get your point. I once watched a video on youtube where farmers used Egg trays instead of plastic nursery trays, I haven't tried this, so I don't know the success rate. If your current method is cheaper, then its better you stick to it. Well done.
Thank you

AgricultureRe: Tomato Production And Marketing. Facts Backed With Figures by jethro2(op): 12:50pm On Mar 01, 2015
innovationafrik:
@Jethro
Why not try nursery trays and sterile medium. None of my tomato plants died during transplanting. The roots of tomato seedlings are often disturbed when you transplant from the soil. In fact, I know a farmer who imports tomato plugs (seedlings germinated in nursery trays) from India to Nigeria.
Do you have a friend in Lagos, I can give you a bag of sterile medium free of charge to try but you must have a nursery tray.
Thank you for the offer and i do appreciate the gesture.
I work with rural farmers in partnership with IFDC. International Fertilizer Development Centre.
The basis is for sustainable agriculture at the cheapest rate possible. They are taught to maximise yield at the lowest cost.
We have made some pretty headway success without using nursery tray. We try as much as possible to use local materials
Secondly I am an advocate for export. I would go for imported things when there is no locally made alternative.
Even if i took up the offer, will you extend the gesture to my farmers?
It was nice of you to offer and i do sincerely appreciate it. Thank you

Nursery stage

AgricultureRe: Tomato Production And Marketing. Facts Backed With Figures by jethro2(op): 12:11pm On Mar 01, 2015
3. Many of the plants die during transplanting.
Somebody once ask me if one can plant tomatoes without nursing it.
My reply was" No tomato, No nursery"
During the last planting season, I gave some tomato seeds to my farm manager to plant in the nursery.
While I was not around he instructed the labourers to plant it directly.
Probably 80% germinates and the remaining 20% couldnt survive the droughts and weather conditions.
Nursery is one of the most delicate stages for vegetables generally.
Tomato seeds are extremely delicate.
They needs to be pampered at all stage and most especially at the nursery.
Please ensure you have an adequate knowledge of the nursery preparation before venturing into tomaato production.
AgricultureRe: Tomato Production And Marketing. Facts Backed With Figures by jethro2(op): 12:02pm On Mar 01, 2015
innovationafrik:
Once a Tomato plant is infected with any disease, the best option for you is to remove and destroy the infected plant by burning or pouring chlorine on it. Leaving an infected Tomato plant on your field may be detrimental to all your crops and some insects may spread the disease all around your field.
The two diseases that wreck Tomato farms often are Blight and Bacteria Wilt. Bacteria wilt is prevalent in SW Nigeria so Bacteria Wilt resistant tomato variety is advised to be planted. This disease has no cure once it infects your tomato plant. You can however get your soil cured from it by using plastic solarisation or the use of methyl bromide (most countries have banned its use). I also heard that the use of organic inputs can significantly reduce the incidences of bacteria wilt. Hydroponic farming or the use of sterilised soil in planting bags will solve most of these disease problems.
For Blight, the best remedy is prevention. You must make sure your tomato plants have a fungicide coating always. Some farmers drench their tomato plants with fungicide before and immediately after any rain.
The black spot below the tomato fruit looks like Blossom End Rot to me. Its either your soil has inadequate calcium or your tomato plant did not get enough water hence its inability to fully get enough calcium from the soil.
I am not an expert anyway but I am talking from experience.
Thanks for your contribution. I sincerely appreciate it. Extensively working on damage control.
