mercylicious:Yes but it has to be a gradual process. They have to provide alternative for them before prohibiting. Provide the necessities in the ranch. Water, feeds, health care, etc. |
Relating with the Fulanis and the farmers on daily basis. I have come to realize there is possibility for a mutual benefits. Both party are ready for change. The change we envisage. The Fulanis Herdsmen Napier grass commonly known as elephant grass or stubborn grass constitute the major feeds for cows. Napier grass can be grown in a ranch for cows to graze on. Cassava peels which litters every local gari processors environment in the rural village is also a supplements for cows. Water source like boreholes should be provided in the ranch for the cows to quench their taste. The advantage 1. Cows easily have access to feeds and water 2. The cows will not be stressed out 3. More meat and milk production from cows 4. Cow dungs will be collated and can be sold out 5. Communal clashes will be reduced |
The truth is we have got to cohabit mutually. The Fulani cows can provide us with manure for our crops, cow dungs for generating electricity, the hide and skin for shoes and bags, dairy milk that is one of our source of protein, not to talk of beef, butter etc. The Farmers crop feed the cows and vice versa |
jethro2:The fruits and vegetable training has been shifted from the 13th of April 2015 to 20th of April. This is to give room for the Aprill 11th State elections to settle down. Pavore9:Farmers and herdsmen has got a lot to gain from each other if they can find a way around their differences. |
The logic. After parading and perambulating for several hours in the hot sun all day long in search of grass and water for their herds. The herdsmen and the cow are tired with no food in view. Yet they could not take the cow back to the ranch with hunger. He therefore resolves to damn the consequences and send them into a nearby farm to graze. The herdsmen needs feeds and water for the survival of their cow. Most of this crisis usually occurs in the dry season when the grasses have dried up |
Way Forward We could simply asked the herdsmen to leave our community. "But No" "Why not"? The cows dung is playing a very significant role in replenishing our soil. The dungs are purely organic fertilizer. So what do we do? |
GboyegaD:We can all live together in peace. What we all need is more enlightenment as you rightly said. There is mutual benefit in our co existence |
ndcide:Please always say it exactly as it is. Thank you |
We believe in a better Nigeria and together we can achieve this. We also know that agriculture is the bedrock of our economy. Together we can achieve this |
Dear Président Buhari Congratulations once again. May God give You the grâce to steer the affair of Our Great country in the right direction. I am writing on behalf of the illiterate rural fellow farmers who has been facing a lot of difficulty with the Fulani herdsmen. I resort to use this medium because I have seen the power of internet as a communication medium to the right authority. I am believing one of this days the message will find its way to where laws and action could be taken. 80% of our agricultural commodities are produced by the rural farmers whose majority has farmland ranging from an acre to 10 acres. They toil day and night battling with hoes and cutlass to be able to feed their families and still have little to take to the market. They have to battle with incessant rainfall, pesticide, seed survival and the rest. Some crop could take 2 months, 3 months to reach maturity while majority takes years and years to grow. They keep nurturing, hopeful and calculating for harvest to be here. The joy of every farmer is to harvest bountifully. But lo and behold, just in a twinkle of an eye, everything got destroyed. All your effort of several months has been destroyed. Not by fire, not by water nor by wind but by Fulani herdsmen grazing on your investment. Yes. Investment. The farm is all the farmers life savings and investment. That's the moment you momentarily go crazy. Then to crown it all, the herdsman brings out his sword knife and threaten to cut you if you dare move near. Such is the impunity. What could you do? You either let go or dare been killed. These is an everyday issue with the herdsmen. "Why did you not report to the police"? "Civil defense no de"? "What of the kings and bales"? First thought that always come to mind. "He who pays the pipes dictates the tune" The herdsmen are rich hence easily settles the police. ""The farmers are threatened by the police to drop the case or be send to jail because the Fulani man is well connected"" *The bales and king got ransom gift of cow to favour the herdsmen. ""Hence the continuous killings and fighting's by herdsmen. Our farmers were skeptical about voting for the general because they were told that you are the herdsmen kinsmen. Yes its true. We told them. But we assured the farmers that the general is a non partisan and a no nonsense man and we believe he is in a better position to reason with us and his people. We know you have got a lot on your plate and we have also been researching on a way to achieve a peaceful co existence between ourselves. Thank you |

As regard dry season farming. The northerners have access to water system created by their government. This enable them produces almost throughout the year. We need to upgrade our production to access good market. |
saliubello:We all target Mile 12 as our market. There are lot of market which we can diversify into. Must we drop it in Mile 12 market?. People travel far to pick produce from Mile 12. Why not intensify the marketing strategy. The unemployed can do the marketing and have their commissions. Farmers group can create alternative market which has a cold store for fresh produce. We have got to work collectivelly. The market is there for all to access if we choose to work together. There are markets that requires consistence supply and quality production. How many are willing to go the extra mile? |
mercylicious:Perfectly ma. Employers are skeptical of training employee that may or may not serve them. What happen to voluntary work to learn? I did lot of that to gain experience in agric. I think he needs more of training than the pay at his moment. Just saying |
funstufz:Thats what we say. Lets be reasonable and not cut peoples head off with unreasonable price. |
world1:Hmnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn |
lagbaja:Gbam. I concured There are lot of people that trade Songhai's product at reasonable price. I know a Songhai contact that sells for N13 per seed. Thank God East West Seed International and Continental Seed are now in Nigeria. People can even buy cheaper. |
@Innovationafrik. I think you are the one hijacking peoples thread, picking peoples brain , proving too arrogant because you want to market your stuff. please stop pulling peoples down or acting smart because you want to sell at all cost. I don't care or give a damn whom you associate with or not on nairaland. It makes no difference to some of us as I deal with people based on integrity which from all your actions i doubt if you have one. You offered me free sample I politely reject then you approach using another method. Please stop pointing fingers because your fingers are not clean. Come on a clean plate and market your product and stop climbing on peoples back and neck. Its irritating when you keep referring to this person and that person. Personally with your attitude, even if you sell the cheapest agricultural products in Nigeria I will still not patronise you. Drop the being smart altitude and market your products. There is space for everyone without being competitive. For as long as you keep quoting me in any of your statement, then you will surely have me at your back. Peace and Thank you |
