okay madam thank you, with the crops would you advice rain-fed or irrigation farming? I'd like to know what your thoughts are on poultry too
Fully irrigated crop farm
I would suggest semi free ranged poultry using Noilers + Fulani breeds * You will get both meat and eggs Though they are not quick returns like broilers and layers They are financially guaranteed with less stress compared to others
* Ever wonder why farmers are always in debt of non repaying loan from Federal Government or any source at all...?
* Ever wonder why a farmer that claimed to harvest so bountifully from the previous years harvest is still looking for external loan, grants and financial support to start the new season farming....?
* Ever wondered why farmers are not getting financial returns from all their so called big sized several hectares rice cultivation despite the federal government loan support....?
* Ever wondered why the same rice and other farmers said to have been smilling to the bank have refused to pay back the loan they took from the federal government...?
Some will tell you they diverted the money to marry more wives, to go for Hajj pilgrimage, to build new house, to do party or whatever
Do you actually believe that story?
* Ever wondered if it's every crop farmer that are that incompetent to the extent of not thinking of the next farming season or the real source that could triple the money for them if they re invest..?
I personally don't think so. However my personal opinion does not matter here but definitely there is need to know why farmers are always short of fund despite working all year round
You should definitely take time to understand why the above statement are always the situation with crop farmers before committing a dime to the farming system
That's why my team and I has set up a practical agribusiness training that will put you through a step by step guide on farming productively and having financial breakthrough from crop production
[color=#006600] @Madam Jethro, seeing as you are the most pragmatic person on the agriculture forum, I have got a question for you, if you had 15m what area of agriculture will you go into; crop or animal husbandry. If crop could you tell me what crop(s) and if animal husbandry, could you tell me what animal? Thanks in advance
* Crop and livestock at the same time
Crop... preferably pepper, tomatoes and onions They are daily consumed in every household Hence have regular demand
Livestock... preferably piggery The waste will go for biogas Biogas generates electricity and slurry Slurry will be used for crop fertilizer The piglets can be sold or allow to matured before selling
Note I will first take time to understand how the system work before committing a dime to the venture

seproperties: Fellow Farmers ,For thr past 4 years this Association Nigerian Casava Growers Association ( NCGA) Ogun state Chapter ,Have been asking us to open different account with the hope to give the members loan to embark on Casava farming without a single Loan.I am just sick and tired of this so called Association .They first directed us to open an account with Zenith bank ,I went through much stress to get this done,I already have my own personal bank account but they Insisted we must open Zenith Bank as the condition to receive the Loan,We waited and waited like someone expecting the blinking the eye of a Crab by the sea side .No loan came forth. l travelled severally to Abeokuta as demanded by the Association even with the little cash on me .We attended a Town Hall meeting at a Hall opposite Alake palace where officials of Central bank ,NIRSAL attends ,we were directed again to open Wema bank account which I did ,Funny enough they will tell you to get Loan you must open account in a Particular bank branch Imagine! Still looking for someone to buy the Property .
Forget NCGA Ogun State and whatever NCGA I registered myself and some of my cooperatives member with them by 2014
We paid N5,000 each into their Union bank account and we paid some other money into the Ogun state chapters account
I later learnt they have collected some government loan and they defaulted.
Every other money paid to them has been going to repayment of that supposed loan I think.
The so called Pastor Segundo Adewunmi has been the president ever since then
Nothing is ever going to happen

dyoungforester: First and foremost, know that yam can be harvested twice in a year. And know that no amount of money invested on it can be lost except if you abandon the farm by yourself

* You can gradually expand the project in later years
* The above save you a lot of fund and headaches
Psalmy2cute: I'm planning to start a one acre worth of pepper farm in ogun state
But the problem is I've never been a farmer nor do I know anything related to farming..
I've done alot of research related to this on the internet, and the more I gain more knowledge the less confident I become in myself.. I'm investing all of my savings into this... also thinking of getting a experienced farm manager before I start...
But what I really want is a little bit of field experience... or anyone who owns a pepper farm for his/her self to put me through in practical...
I already purchased the farm land.. but I'm curious on the financial aspect needed before I start..
I'm totally inexperienced so I wanna be prepared for the dangers I'll run into along the way
And what is the average profit margin by the end of the year??
Daily paid job are not found on internet Go to every newly developed residential sites and you will find plenty of such
timothydgreat: Seasons greetings, pls I am in need of any daily paid job. I am damn broke, to even transport myself to the place I'm running an IT programme is an issue. pls anybody with link. whether construction, site, etc. Thank you I reside in Lagos, Alimosho.

Take time to research what crop or product is highly demanded in your area.
This you can do by visiting the market. Discuss with different commodity retailers
Ask question Listen to what they are saying and the ones they are not saying
Ask them who their previous suppliers are What quantity do the retailers buy?
Will they be open to new customer? What are the good and the bad things about the other producers?
Try to know the other suppliers Ask them questions too What are their challenges?
Market research highly recommended Market research is a must for every intending farmer Market research is beyond asking questions online Market research requires fund, emotions and physical committment
dukechilezie: I really need your contributions and advice on the kind of farming I can venture into. I have tried poultry farming but I am not really getting positive results. I am thinking of crop farming. Please I need your suggestions on the kind of farming that is lucrative. I am based in Enugu, I have five plots of land. I have the capital as well.
kunlef1: Can someone send me a proposal on what he/she can do with an idle and unfenced 4 plots of land located off Ibadan - Iseyin Rd, Moniya Ibadan?
It was used by the villagers for subsistence farming more than 8 years ago, but has since overgrown with bush. I do occasionally send money for clearing but last time was over a year ago.
If you have a good agricultural proposal on what you can do with the land, just give a general outline of what you will do here, overall cost and profit to be made. If I like it enough, I will contact you for private discussion and more specific location details.
I prefer a proposal which has a ready-made market for the agricultural produce.
Please note that I am ideally looking for a competent agricultural professional with good business proposal. I will be willing to sponsor the investment if I find it appealing enough, and we can agree on sharing ratio on the profit..
Please add an email or contact no so people can contact you directly if I post it on my timeline
Thank you sir. I have tried all technisem office sources, they currently don't have the yellow pepper
okoroemeka: I think big sun is yellow hot pepper and technisem so agritropic will have it,most times if their office in enugu don't have what we need they can call their office in nsukka or Jos they normally have exotic seeds in stock, but in the south west I think your best bet will be their office inside mile 12 vegetable market they have almost everything there.
Please do you know where I can get the Big Sun (Technisem) pepper seed to buy?
Thank you
okoroemeka: November and December are the two best months for pepper nursery, tested and trusted, anything else is playing betnaija with your hard-earned money
Heavenlyminded: I have about 5plot to 1acre cultivated cucumber. i have cucumbers for sale in Oyo town, interested buyer cab contact or WhatsApp me via 09038088069. wholesalers or retailers will get some percentages off. thanks.
I can give you Mallam contacts at Eleyele Ibadan I don't know the current price though
You will need to call and negotiate before harvesting
They will pay you cash on delivery once you agreed on the price and the cucumber are of good quality
Like I still maintained It's just a matter of time.
One wonder why it's taking the EFCC so long Honestly I can't wait to share it all As hot as it is
The EFCC know me to be a blogger I have promised not to write anything on the case so as not to distrupt their investigation
That's why I stopped further explaination My lips will be sealed until then

Yinka Adesola is a professional farmer, an agribusiness trainer and consultant and is the co founder of Farmvilla Resource Centre, an agribusiness training and consulting company based at Ago Amodu, Sak East LGA of Oyo State.
Yinka learned her lesson the hard way. She graduated as a Geologist but found herself in farming, albeit with unrealistic expectations.
Determined to succeed in the farm, she tried out many farming endeavours from Cucumber, Maize, Soya Beans, Watermelon and many others.
Upon realising how trial and error has failed her and what she really needed to do to succeed, she got her breakthrough in farming. She then began teaching her success principles practically on the farm and seminars.
The book “How To Farm Profitably In Nigeria” is her first book which was motivated by the fact that most people in Nigeria learn from agricultural books and blogs written by non- farmers who curate information without substantial practical experience.
Yinka puts up the ideas and information based on several years hands on experience growing fruits and vegetables.
