Great experiments I will suggest you use Garlic, Chilli pepper blended and soaked in any vegetable oil for 24hrs or overnight It works perfectly Battery water is poisonous and not advisable to use in any food related business The after effects of the battery water stay long on the cucumber fruits to build up in the body system of those that eat such over time okoroemeka: very correct,we did trials and error on ways to check mate rats eating planted cucumber seed, this peculiar problem has caused heartbreak to many farmers,I even got a call yesterday about a farm that lost close to 6000 seeds to rats in a single night and I think it's time to share some of our experiments and results for other Farrmers to use and see if it will work as it did in our site, we got ₦100 garlic, crushed it and poured it into a bucket with cover,we got the black stuff from. dry cell battery and mixed it with the whole seed to be planted, then mix with the garlic and cover it,to be planted the next day,we used this method and planted 10,000 seeds and didn't lose even one. |

Sunny F1 is a good breed. A 50g tin will give you about 10 feedbag harvest twice a week when harvested green under good agricultural practises of manure, water etc Yet to try the calculation of harvest with red harvest 2. Forever f1 fruits very well. However it get rotten with increased rainfall. It start to drop off from the plant and it starts decaying immediately 3. Plant population determines what quantity of harvest you can get per acre or hectare I hope this helps |

We should learn to ask question and not ask people not to say what they feel. Speaking out will be saving a lot of people from getting into the same situation without knowing what's ahead Not all that glitters is good It's good to listen EverythinDeals: Oga Saliu please stop it abeg. Just stop it. I'm not finding it funny.
If not that you're one strong person I respect here I would have looked your face.
Haba. I've known you for years and have followed your development.
And I can beat my cheat to say anyone that wants to learn should follow you. And you're a real practitioner.
But stop trying to paint it like agriculture is negative or big bucks can not be made from it and people with expectations will be dissapointed.
People can make millions from Africa and can make it big, but while looking at figures they need to follow through with action plan. Simple |
Agriculture › Re: Finding Your Own Niche In Agriculture!! by jethro2: 5:09pm On Mar 26, 2020 |
Thank you for saying it as it is Agriculture is not a fanfare as they tried to preach Most say the opposite to entice others God bless you for coming out with this saliubello: What is/are the reasons for you to choose to start an agric related business?? Alot of reasons are usually put into considerations. However, each to his own. Your reasons might be quite different from mine. However, if you are here/in it for the money.. the 6 digits figures.. the whole numbers that the "experts" have reeled out. Im very Sorry to disappoint you, you will loose your invested sum and some sleeps.
There has been a wide scale of misconceptions about agriculture being the niche where the money is! Hitting the millions with ease etc. Making money from this culture is actually relative. What this implies is that the person who has made money after growing tomatoes and buying a second used car might actually have just recouped a fractions of his invested sums in the last 4 years that he has started.
If you are here for the money..you are a loser from the start..I am of this opinion considering the fact there had been several millions more persons and peasant farmers who had be farming or growing the same crops and animals you intend to start. Does that mean that you are better of.
However, If you are choosing to join the agric - culture and business for the purpose of value addition, employment generation, wealth preservation or giving back to the land. Congratulations.. You have chosen right.

It's 30cm spacing on the row 35cm between row AshinzeNonso: So what spacing did u use? |
Agriculture › Re: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by jethro2: 6:07pm On Mar 19, 2020 |
Good day sir Yes. I come in once in a while to read on agriculture section. I restrict my agricultural writtings and farm pictures to my Facebook timeline The 30cm spacing work excellently for cucumber provided you are staking them I could send you some pictures of the cucumbers we did and the current one on the farm using the same spacing through WhatsApp or other means. The yield automatically increase because there is more plant giving you fruits The main point is to make sure your soil is rich in nutrients through poultry waste and cow dung so the plants will not compete At one point of harvest, we harvested 35 bags of cucumbers from 5 raised bed of 2m *25m lenght 80 of such raised beds can be mapped out from an acre I tried attaching it here but it's not responding. I would have love to attach here You can also Google cucumber raised bed farming with my name Yinka Adesola, I believe several of the pictures, past and current will spring up The system was first introduced to my team by IFDC as back as 2014 It's a highly productive system for cucumber Yampotatocarrot: Good day, never knew u still visit Nairaland. You and Jasper were one of those that brought me to the agricultural section.
I think there is a mix-up in the argument. The spacing you are using is for pepper, but those that replied are most probably replying as regards to cucumber.
Do u think such is advisable for cucumber? |

I practise I did the practical I am still using the system I don't just say If you can, check for Yinka Adesola on Facebook I just posted some of the pictures of closely planted peppers that is fruiting on my timeline AshinzeNonso: What we are saying is that when the pepper mature there won't be space for each other because pepper are bushy plants especially when you prune them |

How much are you willing to bet? I am game We can experiments with the system Glad you know the picture originates from my farm Psalmy2cute: do this kind of spacing.. and you'll have yourself to blame at the end of the day.... I can bet my money on it.. even someone who did just 500 stands on 1 plot of land will get more harvest compared to someone who used this kind of spacing on 1 plot of land.. |

@Yungbryn Yes. An acre of farm with such arrangement have over 24,000 plant of pepper which gives you more yield than an average pepper farm that has between 5,000 - 7,000 plants per acre How? The plant need to be well fed with manure, proper weed control, proper irrigation and every good management system put in place and you are assured of better yield and harvesting for 6 - 12 months before the yield start reducing To be double sure and if you have the chance, you can get in touch with me to arrange a visit to my farm so you can see peppers at various stages of harvest which follow the same system. You will meet some other people on the farm too working on their own personal space who will gladly provide you answers @okoroemeka and @psalmy2cute Knowledge does not stop at one man's foot. Please seek more knowledge before condemning other people's work @okoroemeka I actually check this space once in a while cause i am hoping one day you will put down the expenses and returns calculation of how one can actually make the N500,000 from a plot in 90days Remember that's the thread heading and what got everyone interested in the first place @psalmy2cute Glad you recognise I am not an internet farmer unlike okoroemeka that believes anything that deviates from his crude method of farming automatically originates from an internet farmer Actually I stopped posting much on nairaland since I realise most of you guys are here to prove that you are boss The boss are the people silently making the cool dough in the farm To get more insight into what is called the raised bed system, the most profitable way of growing vegetables, please get a copy of market Gardner written by Jean Martin Fortier You wont ever have to do gambling farming again. Today cucumber Tomorrow pepper Next tomorrow okra Do have a wonderful farming experiences Yungbrym: What about this spacing,a plot will take about 3000 stands of chilli if I'm not mistaken |

And you hope to farm from the information collated from the internet? Phoenix20: Please, who can share with me a detailed cost analysis on planting and cultivating rice on a hectare of land. I plan to venture into rice farming on May/June with just 1hectare to gain experience first. I also have some questions. 1.What are the steps involved. I've already cleared and stumped the land. 2.What is the average price of paddy per 100kg bag 3.Is there high demand 4.Can I realize 350k profit assuming 5 ton yield per hectare (5 tons x 120k per ton minus estimated 250k budget). 5.How long does it take to raise the seeds in the nursery before transplanting to the main field. 6. What is upland and lowland and which states are classified under upland and lowland. Which one is also better for rice farming. 7.Is irrigation necessary and how is it done? 8. Can I plant the seedling without constructing hills or bunds. This are the questions for now. As you can see from the questions, I'm a newbie in rice farming, experienced rice farmers, please come to my aid. Answers are needed urgently. Thanks in advance Please mods, kindly move my topic to the front page Cc: FarmTech, Pavore9, Lalatiscala. |

Buying and selling of agricultural produce is quite profitable than farming. Writing as a practising farmer with some years of experience emmaodet: Hello nairalanders,
The new planting season is here and am about trying my hands on 2 acre of groundnuts. Fingers crossed. I'll be uploading the progress regularly to teach and be taught so lets be positive on this thread.
I am into groundnut oil production and my major challenge has been the high cost of raw materials (groundnut) which has rendered the business handicapped. I do buy groundnuts from bida, mokwa, kano, gombe and adamawa but the cost and logistics has made me to think inward and homeward. Cost of leasing 1 acre is #6,000 Tractor for ploughing 1 acre is #5,000 excluding fueling. Seed - i bought improvised seed, samnut 21 and 22 (12 kg per acre each) = #9,600 for all Other things to do - Tractor ridging - #5,000 per acre minus fueling. Herbicides Planting cost Insecticide to be sprayed immediately after flowering. Cost of spraying insecticide. Cost of harvesting. Thanks and will keep you updated |
