what is magic and what is juju? KingAzubuike: |
In Africa, witchcraft has played a role in rebellions, fighting wars, gaining independence and is often seen at election time. Some people also consult witch doctors to cure diseases or find a husband. However, the practice has negative sides mutilated bodies are often found in Africa, with their organs removed presumably for use in magic charms. And 2017 in the UK, three people were jailed over the torture of an eight year old Angolan girl they accused of being a possessed witch. Without further ado, check out the top 10 African countries that have the strongest juju and witchcraft. 10. Tanzania: Tanzania is a land of some very different beliefs. One such belief of so called witch doctors in this east African nation is that albino body parts are good ingredients for the magical potions the witches concoct. As a result, albinos in Tanzania face widespread persecution. According to reports by BBC, one woman with albinism was found hacked to death in May 2014 in a village called Gasuma. Two witch doctors were suspected of performing the heinous crime and were promptly arrested. Prior to this incident, in 2011 the deaths of around 600 women were all charged with witchcraft. 9. Gambia: How can a country rise above the inhuman practice of witch hunting when its very own president orders the gruesome acts himself? Gambia’s faith healer turned dictator Yahya Jammeh, has taken to eradicating citizens who get in his way and uses witch hunting as a front for his actions. In 2013 stating similar accounts of the goings on in Gambia. Purportedly blending statecraft with witchcraft, Jammeh had 1,000 so called sorcerers arrested and drink a hallucinogenic potion to exorcise their supposedly possessed bodies and minds. At least six died in this torture ritual. 8. Papua New Guinea: Burning women accused of witchcraft has been so alarmingly prevalent in Papua New Guinea that a law was passed by the government to prohibit burning those suspected of performing dark magic, according to the ABC News online site. As reported by Vice News, women have taken to fleeing their homes in fear of being captured and condemned for acts they didn’t perform. Four women in Enga province left their village posthaste after a witch hunter accused them of causing a measles outbreak, which killed several of the villagers. In 2013, one woman was burned alive and another beheaded in public for purportedly practicing witchcraft, marking the alarming increase of atrocious murders due to sorcery. 7. Uganda: It’s not just women who are accused of being witches. A man in Uganda was believed to be dabbling in dark magic and he was promptly tied up and beheaded for it. There have been several more cases like this, all due to the fact that the locals firmly believe that witchcraft is being practiced by some of their fellowmen. Then there are the wily ones who simply use witchcraft as an excuse to get rid of people they hold a grudge against. 6. Ghana: According to a news article by The Guardian in 2010, there’s a new rise in punishment due to witchcraft in the African nation of Ghana, where sorcery forms part of the country’s mythology. A 72-year-old woman was burned to death by six people who suspected her of being a witch, claiming she fell from the sky and under a tree because she ran out of witch flying gas. Medical experts claimed that the elderly woman may have simply been suffering from dementia and her strange behavior was misinterpreted as that of a witch’s. 5. Democratic Republic of Congo: Perhaps the most heart breaking aspect of the loss of lives due to witchcraft is the fact that many of its victims are children. In a 2013 report by International Business Times, a staggering 50,000 children were accused of sorcery in Congo and as all horror stories go with regards to little ones, many of them have suffered abuse at the hands of their captors. And what are these people’s indication that the children are allegedly possessed by demons, Being disabled, wetting the bed at night, and suffering from nightmares. 4. Kenya: Here they post ads, nailed to fences, stuck on poles and printed on A3 paper for waganga (witchdoctors) offering assistance mainly in matters of business, money, love and infertility. In just about every suburb of Nairobi, you’ll find at least one ad, hand painted, on a little plate, nailed high up on a pole. For an average of around 6000 shillings (R600) you can get to see one of these mgangas but it is advisable to avoid those who advertise on paper. They are reputed to be con artists. Stories of “Nairobi girls” using this kind of witchcraft to secure a man is also legend. This kamuti involves the insertion of herbs or crystals into the vagina to keep the man abnormally attracted and emotionally ‘stuck’. 3. Malawi: “Witchcraft is still alive in Africa. Here in Malawi there are two districts where people have advanced in witchcraft. These people can travel from Malawi to USA in seconds. They can tell you to close your eyes for two minutes and after that they tell you to open your eyes and seriously you find yourself in New York, imagine! But the funny part of it these people are not educated but they are advanced in another technology. There are no planes which can travel from UK to USA in seconds, but ordinary people here can do it. 2. Zambia: “Having lived in rural Zambia for several years, u can say definitively that witchcraft is alive and well in Zambia. Unfortunately in the western world, it has bad connotations – that it is backwards or harmful. I have seen truly sick Zambians get back on their feet after a visit from the local witchdoctor, or rather traditional healer. 1. Nigeria: Witchcraft in Africa is real and it is growing in an alarming rate because the youth are now into it. In Nigeria in particular most young people join up to witchcraft because they want to make quick money. They don’t mind what the witchdoctor demands from them – at times the witchdoctor asks them to kill their mother, father or even brothers and sisters. And they do it because they really want to become rich in a short time. Source: https://tigblog.com.ng/2020/07/01/top-10-african-countries-that-have-strongest-juju-and-witchcraft/

The Board of Directors of Jabi Lake Mall, the venue where Naira Marley had his concert in Abuja has issued a statement about the situation. Recall that the scandal started after Naira Marley and KimOprah hosted a show at the Jabi Lake Mall Car Park. The outing stirred public outrage, especially because Nigeria is still on lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Shortly after, the Federal Government banned ExecuJet for flying the celebrities and also shut down the Jabi Lake Mall. However, in a new statement, the board of directors of the Jabi Lake Mall denied authorizing the concert. Accoring to the letter, an employee took the illegal decision to host the event on the property without informing superiors and shareholder s only got to know about it via social media. The shareholders were shocked to learn that a middle-level employee of Broll Management Company, for unknown reasons ignored express directives and the laws and regulations of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This employee, it was learned, took the illegal decision to host the event on the property without informing their superiors at Broll, and the shareholders only found out about this concert after the fact via social media. “Shareholders of Jabi Lake Mall are fully cooperating with the FCT Ministry and support any and all governmental action against all those who orchestrated this irresponsible that has marred the reputation of the Mall that has to date fully ensured a safe and healthy business environment for both the tenants and customers. Shareholders main concern at this time is for the tenants — survival of their businesses and the employees’ welfare —as well as the comfort and convenience of their customers. Knowing that Jabi Lake Mall has pharmacies, grocery stores, food outlets and other essential services, they are working hard to get these stores reopened so the residents of Abuja are not inconvenienced. Knowing that the current financial climate has already been a blow to businesses, they are working hard to get the mall reopened so that these businesses can continue to service their customers, generate revenue, pay their staff and pay their taxes.” Source: https://tigblog.com.ng/2020/06/22/we-never-approved-naira-marleys-concert-jabi-mall-board-issues-statement/ |

https://tigblog.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/i-never-had-money-issues-with-dbanj-in-mohits-don-jazzy.jpg The founder of Mavins record, Michael Collins Ajereh aka Don Jazzy, has opened up on how he never had money issues with his partner, D’Banj while they ran Mo’Hits records. In a live programme with the Ubi Franklin, the Special Adviser on Tourism to Governor Ben Ayade, Don Jazzy said he enjoyed an uncommon relationship with D’Banj while they both ran a record label together. “The way I am with people in my company like myself and D’banj, money issues didn’t occur. I and D’Banj were so in sync that D’Banj can go to Oba of Lagos and return with N10 million and we would still share that money. It doesn’t have anything to do with performance o,” he shared while stating the need for record label executives to have a good relationship with their artists. Continuing, Don Jazzy said, “If you are not in a good relationship with the artist that is when he or she will go outside collecting shows and not tell you. So bond with your artist more, it’s not everything that contract can solve but it is good to have a structure in place so that if by any chance things get out of hand you can step in and the contract can be what you guys can use to solve your problem but I try to make sure that it doesn’t get to that.” The music producer and recording artist also shared how he has successfully managed his label in the last eight years. He said, “There is no structure in Nigeria, but then I have been hearing that from Mohits time, from years ago so I said to myself what are we going to do now, we have to look for a way. So I came up with some form of way that we can work in our part of the world because everything I read on the internet didn’t seem like it was viable in our own space. It is on this live show that I began hearing 80/20, I don’t even think I have heard 70/30 before. I know that things like that dey for Oyinbo contracts but here it cannot work. Here, you are signing a contract with their father and mother, uncle, their Egbon and the Baale, and Oba of Lagos. So at the end of the day, you have to study human beings and look at how we operate in general, our culture is different, everything is different so you have to incorporate that into your business. “But then also they are a few things I put in my head as I’m running my record label which I think most of us that run record label doesn’t put in our head, it is a business where the profit we are supposed to make is not that much, have you seen the name of Universal group owners name on Forbes list before, you would not see any record label executive there other than the record label executives that are their artist or producers or stuff like that. So looking at that I was like okay so fine that means this business, a record label doesn’t make much money like that. “So I try to work and understand the artist if you are making money and the artist is not, first off the mother is the first person that will come for the artist. If the artist cannot beat their chest that they have moved from point A-B that’s when they will be having this plenty talk. I haven’t had anybody leave my record label while they are under contract so in that regard, I don’t relate, all my artists have finished their contracts and ensured added extra care set before they go. I don’t wait for them to come and tell me that you need to upgrade the terms of your contract, I already know that you’re a big boy, don’t worry I will help you upgrade it so that you know that we are equal partners, so that way they don’t feel that need to go out and venture into this whole record label business because jumping to go and start a record label business most people will realize at some point that it is not beans so for me I try as much as possible to have a very good relationship with my artist,” he said. Rounding off his session, Don Jazzy said, “I try to create a scenario where we trust each other, that way we can work to a point where capturing all these numbers in the books for years is easy for us to explain to investors that this is what it looks like and in my case, I was lucky enough that I didn’t go searching for investors, investors came looking for me. But the investors came through, did their due diligence, looked at the books and it looked like good business and we are in business. So I feel like most people don’t capture these things in the book.” Don Jazzy’s Mavins record is home to top music acts like Dr. Sid, DNA, Di’ja, Ladipoe, Johnny Drille, D’Prince, Rema, and Crayon. The record label once had on its bill Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Reekado Banks, and Korede Bello. Source: https://tigblog.com.ng/2020/05/20/i-never-had-money-issues-with-dbanj-in-mohits-don-jazzy/ |

https://tigblog.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/court-convicts-owner-manager-of-demolished-hotel-in-rivers-state.jpg A magistrates’ court in Port Harcourt has convicted and fined the owner and manager of demolished Prodest Hotel in Eleme, Gogorobari Needam and Bariledum Azoroh N50,000 for contravening the State Executive Order on COVID-19. Although Needam was not present in court, the court ordered that Azoroh should be quarantined at the isolation centre in Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elekahia for 14 days to ascertain his coronavirus status. Senior magistrate, Rita Oguguo, who delivered the judgement yesterday, said the accused violated Governor Nyesom Wike’s executive order on closure of hotels in the state, saying the accused violated paragraph 3 and 4 of the executive order number 7. Before his sentence, Azoroh had insisted on seeing his counsel, Godwin Awi, who was absence in court due to his inability to get a pass that allowed access the court due to continued lockdown of Port Harcourt and Obio-Akpor council areas. He lamented that in spite of the plea by his client to get his counsel to defend him, the court went ahead to convict him, adding, “With what has happened, it is clear that there are other underlying issues that probably we do not know. “I do not agree with everything that has transpired today in line with the fact that the Constitution is clear as to the issue of right to counsel, adequate time and facility for an accused person standing trial to defend himself.” Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Mrs. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has dismissed insinuations that Governor Wike was sidelining her in the fight against COVID-19 and implementation of other state government’s programmes and policies. Banigo, a public health expert, said the statement from the Centre for Public Trust (CPT) in which it asked Governor Wike to stop sidelining her was done in bad faith. In a statement issued by her spokesperson, Owupele Benebo, the deputy governor said she would have ignored the group, but that it was important to set the records straight so that Rivers people and the larger society would not be made to believe the falsehood that Wike had relegated her to the background. Some Politicians Trying To Breakdown Law And Order To Declare Emergency In Rivers State – Wike https://tigblog.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/some-politicians-trying-to-breakdown-law-and-order-to-declare-emergency-in-rivers-state-wike.jpg The Rivers State Government on Tuesday said it uncovered a plot by some politicians in Abuja to cause a breakdown of law and order in order to declare a state of emergency in the state. The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paulinus Nsirim, said the culprits had been plotting to destabilise the state but had been failing. He said as preparation for the 2023 general elections gathered momentum, the group planned to use COVID-19 to create enmity between the state and the Federal Government. “They have decided to create unnecessary tension as if indigenes of Ahoada, Eleme and Port Harcourt are fighting with northerners not to carry out their legitimate businesses,” the statement added. Nsirim said the Rivers State Government had been protecting the state from COVID-19, adding that instead for the politicians to support the government, they were looking for a state of emergency in their quest for power. “We are aware that some shameless politicians are playing politics with COVID-19. No wonder one of the respected chieftains of the All Progressives Congress had to expose their plan to use COVID-19 to launch into the politics of the state. “This is what we see in the lives of ungodly, dangerous and power hungry people who claim to love the state. “After their clandestine meetings, they have voted huge sums of money to entice and recruit gullible persons to carry out their plan. “All patriotic Rivers State indigenes are hereby placed on alert to resist the devilish plans of these unpatriotic elements who connive with enemies of the state to cause confusion. “As a state, we have always defeated these sadists and with God on our side, we shall overcome them,” he added. American Rapper, Tekashi 6ix9ine Finally Reveals Why He Snitched On His Former Gang Members https://tigblog.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/american-rapper-tekashi-6ix9ine-forced-to-relocate-after-a-neighbour-leaked-his-address-online.jpg Recall that the rapper was sentenced in December after he testified against members of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang. His testimony in court earned him leniency from charges that could have subjected him to a mandatory minimum of 37 years in prison for crimes that included orchestrating a shooting in which an innocent bystander was wounded. A U.S. District Judge ordered the release of the rapper on the 2nd of April, 2020, calling for him to serve the last four months of his two-year sentence at an undisclosed location over concerns that the rapper who has asthma, would be at risk of contracting the novel Coronavirus in federal prison. During an Instagram live session that broke Instagram records with 2 million viewers, Tekashi addressed being calling him a snitch after testifying against his gang members during the trial. He slammed those who questioned his loyalty, as he wondered where the loyalty was when his gang members were sleeping with his baby mama, beating him up and sharing the video on social media, trying to kidnap his mother and also calling a rival gang to kill him. The rapper called himself a living legend as he pointed out that many people thought it was over for him after he snitched on his gang mates. “You know why people so mad? Cause they thought it was over for me. They counted me out. Oh, yo, you ratted…it’s over for you. Y’all could never. Y’all could never cooperate with the government and come back. Y’all could never do that. I’m a living legend at the age of 24 years old.” Source: https://tigblog.com.ng/2020/05/11/american-rapper-tekashi-6ix9ine-finally-reveals-why-he-snitched-on-his-former-gang-members/ |
