President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday commiserated with the families, government and people of Abia, Delta and Rivers states over the deaths of their illustrious sons Chief Ojo Maduekwe, a former minister of foreign affairs, Justice Nikki Tobi, retired Supreme Court judge and Elechi Amadi, a literary icon, respectively. Chief Ojo Maduekwe died at the age of 71 The trio died within a spate of one week. Speaking through a statement released by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, Buhari said he received the news of Maduekwe’s demise with profound sadness recalling that the deceased served as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Canada.

appealed to
the Federal
Government to
allow the senate of the different tertiary
institution in the country to prescribe modalities
for admission.
He made this call during the 4th Biennial
Conference on the Committee of Pro-Chancellors
of State-Owned Universities in Nigeria held at the
Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode,
Ogun State.
According to him, the federal government should
be careful in making pronouncements on
educational matters that would affect the states
and private universities.
He further called on the pro-chancellors to
support vice-chancellors in their effort towards
building a credible university system
