1. The hot girl/guy Let’s start in a good place because it’s only going to get worse from here. You always seem find a hot girl or guy to swoon over on the bus…..in reality, they’re not even aware of you… 2. The music too loud in earphones person… A massive pet peeve of mine. It’s usually something insanely shit too….like smiley virus or that Bieber kid. How are these people’s ears not bleeding 3.The clown Always keeping the bus cool with his funny words,sayings..(mostly males) 4.The one who sits beside you when there are loads of free seats… Why oh why….half the bus is empty and you want to sit beside me…no words can describe how pissed off this scenario makes me… 5.The messy eater Always buying snacks at any given opportunity, as d eater dey buy groundnut, chin chin.Na so e/she go dey top am with viju milk,Lacasera or any available drinks. 6.The preacher 60% assurance is sure of meeting someone who is gonna be preaching in d bus..Its annoying sometimes hearing d same thing. 7.The feet on the seat person.. I actually don’t have a problem with this at all. Obviously if the bus is full I wouldn’t dream of it but if the bus is quiet I’m going to put my feet up and relax… I’m sorry but that’s just the way it is. I don’t cause any damage to anything and I have a comfortable journey, the way some people bang on about it you’d swear people should should be sent to the gallows for it… 8. The person doing her (maybe his) make up.. Annoys some people…not me. Hilarity may ensue when travelling over speed bumps though…. 9. The talking insanely loud on the phone one.. Here’s an idea…I don’t give a shit about your conversation. People can talk on the bus at low levels…amazingly I have actually managed to do this myself so I know it’s not bs. So please take it down to around a 2 and stop annoying 10. The shrieking kid… Touchy subject….all I know is I’ve seen enough parents absolutely leather their kids on the bus for doing next to nothing, it really is quite disturbing. Generally what happens is the kid does something that warrants the parent asking them to stop. However in these cases the parent, instead of talking to the child, resorts to physical retaliation that wouldn’t be out of place in Ultimate Mortal Kombat ensuring a shrieking teary experience for all passengers. … 11. The one who smells like $h!T.. How can people not know when they smell this bad? Please use some deodrant, lynx, aftershave, perfume… we should be allowed mace someone who smells this bad.. 12.The quiet, unnoticed individual in the bus You won't even notice u entered the same bus with the individual when getting off. 13.The complainer Always complaining.About d speed lf d car even if the driver aint speeding that much, heat, tight space..Etc Add Yours.. |

Maiduguri -Boko Haram have seized a strategic town in Nigeria's far northeast, prompting denials from the military, as experts said the government risked losing control and the region was "on the brink" of takeover. Residents in Bama and a local lawmaker said some 400 troops, some of them without weapons or boots, fled after a military jet mistakenly bombarded the town's barracks during intense fighting. Nigeria's military countered that it had pushed back the militants, who in recent weeks have moved from indiscriminate and retaliatory hit-and-run attacks to seizing strategic territory in Borno state. Last week, militant fighters, blamed for killing thousands since 2009, overran the border town of Gamboru Ngala and previously seized Gwoza and declared it part of an Islamic caliphate. Some analysts have predicted that by seizing territory, Boko Haram is seeking to encircle the state capital, Maiduguri, 70 kilometres (45 miles) away to make it the centre of a hardline Islamic state. "Nigeria is losing control of large parts of the northeast region," said Andrew Noakes, of the Nigeria Security Network of experts in a report that warned of potential knock-on effects. "If Borno falls to Boko Haram, parts of (neighbouring) Yobe and Adamawa (states) can be expected to follow. Parts of Cameroon along the border area would also probably be overrun. "Unless swift action is taken, Nigeria could be facing a rapid takeover of a large area of its territory reminiscent of ISIS's lightning advances in Iraq. "Such a takeover would likely be accompanied by a major humanitarian crisis, involving the movement of possibly tens or even hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons." - Aerial bombardment - In Bama, Nigeria's military seemed to have the upper hand when Boko Haram fighters launched a pre-dawn raid on Monday, with troops deployed to the town before an apparent bid to recapture Gwoza. But local resident Yasir Zarami said that changed when the military jet bombarded its own troops in an account back by Borno senator Ahmed Zanna in an interview on BBC radio's Hausa language service. "The jet could not distinguish between soldiers and Boko Haram and bombarded the military barracks which was at the time under the control of soldiers," he told AFP. "The aerial bombing destroyed the military barracks and forced soldiers to flee towards Maiduguri along with thousands of civilians." University of Maiduguri student, Aliyu Dawud said he saw troops arriving in the city. "Some of them had no boots, some had only vests on them while others had no guns. From their looks they were on the run for their lives." "Bama is now in the hands of Boko Haram because not a single soldier remains there," added another Bama resident, Umar Dahiru. |

Abuja - The country has a third confirmed case of Ebola disease in the oil hub of Port Harcourt, bringing the country's total confirmed infections to 16, with around 200 people under surveillance, the health minister said on Monday. A doctor in Port Harcourt died last week after treating a contact of the Liberian-American man who was the first recorded case of the virus in Africa's most populous country. That raised alarm that Ebola, which looked on the verge of being contained in the commercial capital, Lagos, may flare up again elsewhere. |
2014-09-01 17:20 Abuja - The army has reportedly killed 59 members of Boko Haram terrorist sect in an exchange of fire in Bama, Borno State. According to a security source who preferred anonymity, about 200 insurgents had invaded the town but fell to the superior weapon handling and war tactics of the soldiers. He said over 30 insurgents were also left injured with various bullet wound as the majority of the terrorist were compelled to retreat through the bush while others sped via the highway. Some residents of Bama, who spoke to journalists in Maiduguri, said they woke up early Monday morning to heavy bombardment as gunshots the air. “Everyone was thrown into pandemonium as we continue to hear deafening gunshot and we are later to hear that over 200 Boko Haram terrorists attempted to capture the town. "We also learnt that they stormed the town through Bama- Banki-Gwoza Road but they were intercepted by gallant military troops near the Bama Mobile Police Unit located about 5 kilometers away from the center of the town” a resident explained. |
Abuja - An experimental Ebola drug healed all 18 monkeys infected with the deadly virus in a study, boosting hopes that the treatment might help fight the outbreak raging through West Africa — once more of it can be made. The monkeys were given the drug, ZMapp, three to five days after they were infected with the virus and when most were showing symptoms. That is several days later than any other experimental Ebola treatment tested so far. The drug also completely protected six other monkeys given a slightly different version of it three days after infection in a pilot test. These two studies are the first monkey tests ever done on ZMapp. "The level of improvement was utterly beyond my honest expectation," said one study leader, Gary Kobinger of the Public Health Agency of Canada in Winnipeg. "For animal data, it's extremely impressive," said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which had a role in the work. It's not known how well the drug would work in people, who can take up to 21 days to show symptoms and are not infected the way these monkeys were in a lab. Several experts said it's not possible to estimate a window of opportunity for treating people, but that it was encouraging that the animals recovered when treated even after advanced disease developed. The study was published online by the journal Nature. Testing ZMapp ZMapp had never been tested in humans before two Americans aid workers who got Ebola while working in Africa were allowed to try it. The rest of the limited supply was given to five others. There is no more ZMapp now, and once a new batch is ready, it still needs some basic tests before it can be tried again during the African outbreak, Fauci said. "We do need to know what the proper dose is" in people and that it's safe, he said. Ebola has killed more than 1,500 people this year and the World Health Organisation says there could be as many as 20,000 cases before the outbreak is brought under control. Ebola has now spread to a fifth African country – Senegal – where a university student who travelled there from Guinea was being treated. There is no approved vaccine or specific treatment, just supportive care to keep them hydrated and nourished. Efforts have focused on finding cases and tracking their contacts to limit the disease, which spreads through contact with blood and other fluids. ZMapp is three antibodies that attach to cells infected with Ebola, helping the immune system kill them. |
SEYI SOKOYA reports his experience on the Allen Avenue part of Ikeja, the Lagos State capital, where he was harassed by sex workers popularly referred to as Aristos. IT was an impromptu encounter, a shocking experience to which the flesh could easily have submitted. Some people describe it as open cheque, while to the Yorubas it is ‘ifa’. But honestly, one cannot imagine what might be the outcome, especially in a strange territory. This reporter’s encounter with Aristos in the heart of Allen Avenue in Ikeja, Lagos State would, no doubt, always linger in his mind. It was a scary experience and could possibly be the most embarrassing moment he had ever encountered, particularly in his journalism career. The reporter was mute and helpless when he was offered sex in the open. Despite being a reserved person who honours the opposite sex to a fault, the impromptu encounter with some sets of sex workers who were not even bothered about his wedding ring made him discover that his courage was not enough. But he eventually escaped from the den via the God of wisdom. As the writer discovered, easy pleasure was not new to people who were familiar with the area, especially those who patronised the place often, either for business appointment or ‘crusades’ at night. Although he had often heard about the activities in the vicinity, the scenario caught him unawares, as he suddenly found himself in the midst of the seducers. They were neither scary nor armed, but they almost tempted the writer with their spotted wears and pulchritudinous faces. Honestly, this reporter was dazed. It was as if one was in another world. It was one adventure the writer was not prepared for; otherwise he would have had more time to relate with the ladies of the night than he did or even taken the extra effort to visit the sex dungeons reportedly existing in the place. The 30-minute encounter with the ‘high spirit ladies’ was fun and a great lesson. Allen was a haven of all sizes; any male would definitely get his taste. It was a mixture of the old and young; slim and robust, tall and short and dark and light in complexion. They flaunted their cleavages with diverse provocative outfits. These ladies were spotted at every point of the street waving at cars as well as passers-by, especially men, while some were tempted to wait for negotiation. The sex workers he came in contact with could not give a genuine reason on why they engage in the business. The premises of banks and some business firms, even at the close hours, were alive; the reporter sighted some daring activities of these prostitutes in front of the banks and firms. It was obvious that night life on Allen Avenue is never a dull moment. The street lights coupled with the security illuminations reflected on the glittering faces of the Aristos, just as it gave whoever wanted to have them for the night a clear picture. The zeal to always do the unusual and hunt for controversial artistes in the entertainment industry led the reporter into this; he escaped from a tempting interview session with one of the controversial Nollywood artistes at a hotel around Toyin street in Ikeja, only to fall into the den of Allen Avenue girls. It was late, precisely, 11 pm. As the writer strolled down from Toyin Street linking Allen Avenue roundabout, a lady beside the road approached him and asked if she could be of assistance. He did not give any response in order not to fall into the trap of the night. As another lady called his attention while crossing the roundabout, his mind told him where he was. This writer was still relaying his shocking experience to a colleague on telephone when another one came very close to him and started making frantic efforts to seduce him. He had to drop the call and quickly caution her. It seems she was not satisfied; the next thing was a funny display. The reporter was furious. She was not shy to show off in the open. Dipping one of her fingers into her mouth; she brought the other hand down to her crotch as she came closer. The reporter resisted and pleaded that he was not in the mood, then fled that spot. To the reporter’s surprise, before the twinkle of an eye, she had entered into negotiations with another man at the same spot. The reporter took a step of faith forward, eager to get a taxi out of the vicinity in no time, but all efforts were thwarted. Not far from where he discharged the other lady, he was surrounded by another set of sparkling ladies, whom he discharged with a little psyche. But one of them persisted; she came within a close range and, with her pointed ‘heavy balls,’ she told the reporter to his face to ‘come and do.’ He replied, “to do what?” and she was not shy to offer him sex in the open. He told her that the kind gesture was appreciated, but it should be fixed for another time, as he was merely waiting for a friend to pick him up. She did not want to let him go and he did not want to appear too harsh. Truth be told, he was also scared of being attacked. She offered a way out: she and the writer could “have it somewhere on the street” before his friend arrived. That was not all: if he was not in the mood for sex, she could only suck on his manhood. He gasped and was short of words. “Are you avoiding me?” she asked as she flaunted her boobs and asked if she was not endowed enough. He had to tell her that she was good looking, and that he would want to meet her another time, all in the bid to discharge her. She later said: “Give me money for Indomie since you have refused to have fun.” The reporter was almost tempted to give her money, but he did not because he feared that others might besiege him to get theirs too and he could put himself in a mess. Wondering if the security agents are aware of the activities of Allen Avenue? Interestingly, some policemen suspected to be stationed at the environs were also having a nice time. The reporter sighted a police van at a strategic spot where some policemen were enjoying their stay with some set of Aristos. The reporter also learnt that a security man protects the Aristos from being attacked. A taxi driver who took the reporter out of the den confirmed that the policemen stationed at the axis condone the activities on the street, especially at night. “They also have their cuts. They even protect them from being harassed or kidnapped. In fact, the policemen, banks and company security guards and taxi drivers also patronise them.” He also relayed his recent experience with a prostitute who boarded his cab and could not afford the sum of N500 they agreed upon, but told him to have sex with her in his car in place of the money, an offer which he claimed he refused. “They are not costly; one can have fun with them with either less than N500 or a little above that. It is no more news that they have sex on the street; some prefer having fun beside the walls, in the car, on the tiles of ATM machine booths, or even at the security guards’ cubicles. Lately, some of them have been coming with mats. All they just have to do is to settle the security guards on duty for the period of time they intend to spend,” he revealed. Is the government aware of the activities of Allen Avenue? And are the proprietors of banks and companies aware of what their buildings are being used for at the close hours? |
