Former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, criticized President Goodluck Jonathan over his performance as the country leader.
Speaking today, December 4, at the sixth Christopher Kolade Symposium, Kolade recalled Jonathan’s presence at Kano rally shortly after the deadly Abuja explosion, saying that he should have postponed the political event.
He also expressed his opinion on the general state of the country.
“Nigeria was, at every other time, better than now… If we get to a point when we do not care how the country is led, we have lost hope. The country is where it is today because some people sacrificed. Unfortunately, beyond stealing, our leaders are not ready to sacrifice anything.”

The Obafemi Awolowo University, being one of the stolen institutions, is good only to address the need to restructure Nigeria, not for an effort to sustain the status quo.”
The group said the Yoruba nation would only be pleased by a return to regional government through the maximum devolution of powers and a return to parliamentary democracy.
It said regionalism was the best form of governance that would give different regions the opportunity to develop at their pace and contribute their quota to Nigeria’s development.
The group dismissed the summit by saying it was convened by people who are falsely parading themselves as leaders of the Yoruba people.

Pan-Yoruba association, Afenifere Renewal Group, has said the recent attempt by President Goodluck Jonathan to woo the Yoruba nation to support his re-election bid is too late.
The group, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Kunle Famoriyo, described the Yoruba Progress Summit, which held last Friday, in Ile-Ife, as an afterthought and a futile effort to “sneak the President into Yoruba land through the backdoor.”
It said, “For the past five years under his administration, the Yoruba people have been deliberately marginalised and skewed out of national reckoning, especially in terms of key appointments and opportunity to partake in key sectors of the economy.
“We are surprised that President Jonathan believes the position of the Speaker, over which he has no control, is enough to atone for the deliberate marginalisation in key appointments, over which he has control.
“In any case, we do not need a ‘Progress Summit’ in Yoruba land. We already have a progressive culture based on democratic and egalitarian

Governor Abdul­fatah Ahmed of Kwara State yes­terday flagged-off construction of the Ki­shi Kaiama federal road at a cost of N7.9 billion.
Speaking on the event in Kaiama Local Government headquarters, Governor Ahmed said the develop­ment effort was aimed at enhancing socio economic development of the people of the area.
The governor, who disclosed that the64-ki­lometreroad project would gulp N7.9 billion, explained that the reha­bilitation would elimi­nate the hardship being experienced by motorists and commuters on the route when completed. Governor Ahmed re­minded the people that the road was a federal road, but he was driven by the socio-economic factors and the need to promote the welfare of the people, hence, his intervention on the road and other federal roads in the state.
He added that the road would boost the socio-economic life in the area.
