Sir I think you should check the dictionary meaning of 'gross'. It specifically refers to the total amount earned by a movie. The writer of the article was very clear when they said the movie had grossed a total of 24 million at the theater. You do not need an interpreter to tell you that it refers to the amount made from the sale of the movie tickets at the cinemas and not the number of copies of the movies sold.

Which criteria was used in computing her earnings? This assumption is baseless. That she was the lead actress in a movie that fetched 24 million naira (less than $160,000) doesn't necessarily mean she is the highest earning actress in the industry. I think its safe to say she's among top earners.
