Hi Nlanders, I am about to seek admission into NOUN to obtain an M.Sc. in Public Health. I work for my state government and am also an entrepreneur. Due to the nature of my job being demanding. I am thinking of doing my MSc in NOUN. But what is holding me back is, is it internationally recognised. In case there is an opportunity later in future won't i be sidelined because i attended NOUN? Do conventional university recognize them assuming i want further for PhD?
You look University of Nigeria Nsukka and National Open University of Nigeria. You look them finish and you're asking if one of them is recognised by other universities?
Anyways, yes it's recognised internationally but make no mistake, that school hard o! No let the online, study from home wetin wetin deceive you o!

Ask yourself why cancer rate is highest in the US compared to other 1 world countries?

There you've your answer.

Us has the highest spending in medicine and medical development yet the highest cancer rate.

If person no use him head person go use you.

For your info big pharma sponsor almost 99 percent of us senators.

Any country where big pharma and big corporations bankroll election spending is a country where cancer and other leading cause of death thrive.

My oga open my eyes when he told me a drug in the US named viaxxov or so killed more Americans than total amount of army killed in the Vietnam war.

Here's the kicker nobody went to jail.

Pfizer paid billions in fines yet nobody was jailed.

All the three letters agencies FDA and co knew about it.

Even Harvard scientist too knew yet viaxxov was sold to Americans and heavily advertised.

Find doctor John Abrahamson sickening: why Americans is getting sicker on YouTube he was the guy that busted Pfizer.
I've come across more than all these things you're listing. Every single drug you use today killed people first. Do some research about the pioneers of gynaecology and many major medical breakthroughs. Every code or invention was written in blood.
If you knew how many people are being killed in Nigeria, Niger, South Africa, China etc directly or indirectly just to keep control of the mining industries to supply raw materials for the phones, jewelry and cars you are using on a daily. The sad thing in life is Shit happens and will keep happening.
And No, big pharma is not the cause of cancer. It's not communicable disease. Increased exposure to radiation through various devices, gluttony and lifestyle choices etc are some leading causes of cancer.

FROM HERE
Your question: Constrained by what? As opposed to where?

My answer: Igbo people have been severely constrained by:
1.Historical trauma
2. Political disadvantages,
3. SE recent security challenges
4. internal governance issues,
5 brain drain
6.Corruption and self-interest among Igbo leaders
TO HERE was all that's needed to begin with. Now that you've attempted the question, could you highlight other groups that their individuals are faring better or not facing these and more issues.
No data proof to back up your claim- False accusation -that Igbo communities are growing more rapidly than all other communities in Nigeria this was not insinuated in the slightest , but there is data proof that Igbo people migrate to other parts of Nigeria and beyond in search of economic opportunities more than other tribes in Nigeria. A big No. Igbo people make loud strides but I can assure you that Bini, Akwa/cross regions for example exist more than half outside their native communities but probably because Igbo is of greater population. Have we even dived into the migratory trait of many northerners? How many Yoruba people are living in their own communities? You never reach London abi you think Lagos has up to 2 million indigenes? Anyway I digress.

First and foremost, I am an avid online and offline reader. I am not ignorant of what constrained your region (SE). There are a bunch of materials online and offline that talk about the constraints of every region in Nigeria and their communities development efforts. Just avail yourself to read them.

To attribute the clarity, depth, or length of a comment from a fellow Nairalander rooted in the Nigerian reality to an artificial intelligence (AI) demonstrates your deep misunderstanding of "the entity called Nigeria.

My lengthy comment was not the product of algorithms but of authentic human intellect and experience. Such a notion, frankly, offends the very essence of genuine, lived experience and thoughtful discourse that defines me Like I said at first, " I hope it's not A.I. I'll be much glad now that it isn't, wasn't or wouldn't be. Next
The truth is, you have limited knowledge, specifically of the lived realities and profound complexities of your Igbo people.

You asked what has constrained the Igbo people, in this sprawling, complex entity called Nigeria.

Are you an Igbo? I doubt it! . Even a deaf and blind individual can easily tell what has constrained Igbo people in Nigeria.

Yes, it is no secret that Igbo people have been severely constrained by a combination of profound historical trauma, deliberate federal marginalization, structural political disadvantages, recent security challenges, political disadvantages, internal governance issues, brain drain and investment patterns.
This was all that was asked of you ab initio. Nothing more, Nothing less.

It's not about SE doing community -I specifically used the word "individually" -development more than other regions, but rather about the forms these efforts take and the specific challenges/opportunities faced by each region.
The question wasn't about who has more billionaires or who dominates the politics, military etc. It's simply asking who has it's individuals building their business and (indigenous or residential) community better than them regardless of the constraints.

After reading the long reply you posted, I hope it wasn't A.I. because it has not a single answer to the questions I posed to your earlier submission.
ekitimanalways:
While the Igbo people possess incredible wealth, knowledge, and entrepreneurial power, the ability to translate these into comprehensive regional development has been severely constrained.
Constrained by what? As opposed to where?

ekitimanalways:
It's challenging to accurately quantify and compare community development efforts across different ethnic groups in Nigeria, as many Nigerian communities, regardless of their ethnic background, demonstrate strong traditions of self-help and collective development.

The Igbo people are indeed well-known for their robust community development initiatives, often spearheaded by town unions, age grades, and diaspora contributions, particularly in areas like building schools, hospitals, markets, and roads. This system of communal effort and self-reliance (often referred to as "Igbo spirit" or "Aku ruo ulo" - wealth brought home) is a defining characteristic.

However, this spirit of "self-help" (often referred to as "communalism" or "collective responsibility"wink is a deeply ingrained cultural value across various Nigerian societies. Many other ethnic groups and communities also have highly effective methods for community development. It's not about one group doing "more" than another, but rather about the forms these efforts take and the specific challenges/opportunities faced by each community.

Here are examples of how other Nigerian communities are effectively developing their areas:

Yoruba Communities (Southwest Nigeria):

Community Development Associations (CDAs): These are very active in both urban and rural areas, often working with local governments to provide infrastructure, security, and social services.
Social & Professional Associations: Many Yoruba associations (e.g., old students' associations, professional guilds, lineage groups) contribute significantly to education, healthcare, and economic empowerment within their communities of origin.
Diaspora Contributions: The Nigerian diaspora, a significant portion of which is Yoruba, consistently sends remittances and funds specific projects back home, from boreholes to community halls.

Hausa/Fulani Communities (Northern Nigeria):
Traditional Leadership and Islamic Institutions: Traditional leaders often play a central role in mobilizing resources for community projects, while Islamic charities (e.g., Zakat committees) and NGOs are crucial for welfare, education (e.g., Almajiri schools reform), and healthcare initiatives.
Community-Based Organizations: Local groups focus on issues like agricultural development, poverty alleviation, and youth empowerment.
Cooperative Societies: Farmers' cooperatives and trade associations are common structures for economic development within communities.

Niger Delta Communities (e.g., Edo, Ijaw, Urhobo, Itsekiri):
Local Development Committees: Despite environmental challenges and resource conflicts, many communities have committees that engage with oil companies for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, advocating for schools, health centers, and infrastructure.
Youth & Women's Groups: These groups are often at the forefront of advocacy, skill acquisition programs, and local environmental protection efforts.
Diaspora & Individual Philanthropy: Wealthy individuals and those in the diaspora often fund projects like road construction, scholarship programs, and community safety initiatives.

Middle Belt Communities (e.g., Tiv, Igala, Nupe, Idoma):
Agricultural Cooperatives: Given the agrarian nature of many of these communities, cooperative efforts for farming, processing, and marketing are key to economic development.
Clan & Lineage Associations: Similar to other parts of Nigeria, these groups often pool resources for community infrastructure, educational support, and conflict resolution.
Focus on Basic Services: Efforts often concentrate on providing access to clean water (boreholes), primary healthcare, and basic education facilities.

Why a direct comparison is difficult:
Varying Development Metrics: "Effectiveness" can be measured by different criteria (e.g., number of projects, sustainability, impact on poverty, community participation, or self-sufficiency).
Unique Challenges: Each region faces distinct challenges (e.g., environmental degradation in the Niger Delta, insecurity in parts of the North, urbanization pressures in the Southwest), which influence the nature and scale of development efforts.
Data Availability: Comprehensive and reliable comparative data on community-led development initiatives across all ethnic groups in Nigeria is not readily available.
Ultimately, a hallmark of Nigerian society is the remarkable resilience and proactive spirit of its people in striving to improve their local conditions, often independent of government intervention. This is a common and admirable trait found across all regions and ethnic groups.

There's a new federal University situated by Buhari in Daura. That's a perfect fit. Upgrade it's number of accredited departments and rename it to become more popular.

Many years ago, people of Rivers State also renamed their roads to indigenous names due to the characters of economic migrants from the yeast.

Anioma people you better wake up before Ned sell you guys
You jump up from the wrong side of the bed and start spewing n@nsens3.
1) Rivers State changed Street names. They didn't change Omuma, Etche, Egbema, Ikwerre people etc from being Igbo, speaking Igbo or bearing Igbo names till eternity.
2) Anioma people are Igbo people with Igbo names, speaking Igbo. They don't need to answer Igbo or to be grouped as southeast to prove anything.
3) I don't have anything against this street renaming issue. Maybe the former registration was old or not being renewed OR maybe it is just to reflect more on the native people or dialect. Unfortunately, it's most times hard to change the colonial road names even when government tried to.
*MOST IMPORTANTLY, this has no effect on who runs Lagos nor who controls it's economy.

Unlink all automatic Billings from your account/salary. Block all your cards or get new ones.
Send all bills money to her account directly from your account. Tactfully reduce at least 10-20% from each bill and send for her to go and pay. Groceries £100, send her £85.What if she fails to pay them? Remember I asked you for receipts? You'll have evidence of compliance. She'll be the one committing tax evasion, embezzlement or whatever other financial crimes charge there is.

This "tithe" is not for your normal savings. It'll be your lifeline.
She'll be naturally forced to foot the remaining portion. Coupled with your records of already footing over 60%, Even the courts will not side with her.

Taxes Ke? Anyways yes they pay for daily tickets. Just a few hundred naira ni🤷🏻‍♂️
Offloading I'm talking about doesn't necessarily depend on individual trips. For example one container of plastic drinks or biscuit let's say 65k. Dem no dey like crowding so Na few of them get the money and they're usually less than 6 involved. Apart from offloading from container, there are customers purchasing from Oga in the shop or through phone. One or two of the guys are called again to deliver let's say 75 cartons to a certain shop in the other line in the market or a street or bus stop outside the market. Each of these people can handle over 300 cartons worth of offloading, supply and delivery in a day.
It's just that the negative view affects them and they don't think positive with their money. Even the responsible ones with family and all still don't understand that they're earning higher than people wearing suits. They don't plan big projects. Just squander the money daily on their family (for responsible ones) or food (Oh boy, they can consume more than 8k food in local mama put joint daily). Gambling, clubbing, prostitute and drugs are the major vices that finish them kpata kpata.
I've seen some manage to build a small house, raise a family and even raise another business from their proceeds.
You don't even need to buy the barrow. There are multiple renting spots in the market. I don't even want to talk about the income of those men that use motorcycle 🏍️ to deliver cement and rods from warehouse to sites.

Oga if you handle construction project or enter market for some time and observe. Na rubbish business dey pay the most. Na the shame or the heart to do am be Koko.

In Imo I operated in the outskirts of Owerri. In Abia I operated inside Ohafia and Abiriba axis. Nothing concern you with long talk or unnecessary competitions.
Also you need to stick close to the pits and union offices to know or be in position when a truck is available. Those things happen suddenly. It doesn't really have "link"

Tipper driver as in driving tipper.
1)If the oga hires you just to be a driver and deliver his orders he can pay as much as 5k and much more per trip just for your driving services. You collect your money at the end of each day or week as you agreed. Finding job, buying Fuel, vehicle repairs, tickets, papers etc are not your business.

2)You collect "carry go work". You pay Oga an agreed rent per day or week. All incomes and gain are yours. Na you go find contacts and work to do. Na you go add fuel and share an agreed percentage of repair with Oga. The difference with this and hire purchase is that you're just hiring the vehicle to work and not renting it to own no matter how long you operate.

3) Hire purchase: everyone knows what hire purchase is so whatever sign for una agreement na wetin you go see.

2 and 3 gives you chance to earn millions monthly but you'll need contact for who and where to supply material.
Number 1 is the simplest and can give you way more than 20k daily/ 600k monthly.

That same Wheelbarrow wey dey reign now for internet will give you that amount or double everyday. Just go to ariaria Aba, Tetlow road Owerri etc to confirm for yourself. Yes, They need to work hard but not necessarily overworked. That amount can be made within the morning or evening with just one container offload. Normally it's around 3-5 guys offloading one trailer in a few hours.

But for "normal sounding" businesses he can still make such figures in the similar locations I mentioned by selling 🍬 sweets 🍭, nylon, battery, cosmetics etc virtually anything the big dealers are selling in shops if he can secure a table/barrow space around the market and buy from the bigger dealers with some credit purchases and a little more of Oso Afia involved for the items he doesn't have directly.
