Usually I'm the last to be perturbed by sociopolitical inclination or even indoctrination of a people, so long it doesn't pose any real danger to me and my loved ones. It's a free world.

What the writer is essentially saying is that the igbos had minimal contact with the outside world unlike the south westerners, northerners, and the coastal minority (south south’ers) due to them being “Isolated in the dense, wet-woodlands of the Niger delta” - not that they are from Niger-Delta.
