The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) looks like it's no longer safer for officials with several reports of violent attacks in the League.



Fans of Sunshine Stars in Akure have now been accused of beating the hell out of a centre referee after their club was held to a goalless draw at home to Kano Pillars on Sunday.

The alleged attack which was caused due to poor officiating was said to have occurred after the referee sounding the final whistle.

The trial of Muhammad Danjuma Goje, former governor, Gombe State and a serving senator, on charges of financial misappropriation during his tenure as governor came up on Tuesday, February 6, 2017 before Justice B. Quadri at the Federal High Court, Jos, with PW24 testifying.


Goje is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in relation to alleged financial impropriety, including the contract on food supply to the state government house during his tenure as well as loan facilities taken from Access and Union Banks.


He is standing trial alongside Aliyu El-Nafaty, S. M. Dokoro and Sabo Muhammad Tumu. At the sitting, counsel to the EFCC, Wahab Shittu, filed an amended 21-count charge against the defendants and they were all served, though yet to take their pleas.

Meanwhile, Chris Owobu, an operative of the EFCC and a member of the team that investigated the alleged offence gave a blow-by-blow account of how the resolution purported to have been passed by the Gombe State House of Assembly to authorise the approval of the N5billion facility from access bank was forged.
The PW24 stated that when Danjuma Goje was governor, he got a N5billion facility from Access Bank without the approval of the Gombe State House of Assembly.
He added that Goje under investigation claimed that he got approval from Gombe State House of Assembly via a resolution passed by the House, but investigation revealed that on said day, the House did not sit nor pass any resolution regarding any loan as claimed by the former governor.

The judge, adjourned to April 10 - 11, 2018 for continuation of trial.

A group called Concerned Indigenes of Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has launched a move to recall Shehu Sani, the senator representing the district at the Senate. The plan to recall the senator was announced in a statement signed on behalf of the group by Aliyu Saidu Rigachikun, who claimed to have been the Deputy Director-General of Mr. Sani’s senatorial campaign in 2015.

According to the group, Mr. Sani was previously a politician with no significance and had failed twice to become a senator until he rode on the popularity of President Muhammadu Buhari, then a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to get to the Senate. Concerned Indigenes of Kaduna Central Senatorial District stated that since he won the election, Mr. Sani has continuously bitten the fingers that fed him.

“His first assignment as a senator was to ridicule the President's wife during the inauguration and he would later conspire against the President and the party during the National Assembly leadership elections. In doing so, he became a prominent figure in a Senate that is committed to undermining every honest effort of the Buhari administration, against the will of his constituents,” the group said.

It explained that those familiar with Mr. Sani were not surprised by his conduct, as he has built a reputation of using deceit and subterfuge cloaked in human rights activism. The group claimed that instead of investing his legislative resources and privileges to deepen the legislative process and uplifting the conditions of his constituents, he has become the leader of President Buhari's enemies.

He is accused of always amplifying the challenges being faced by the Buhari administration while ignoring the progress it has recorded so as to portray the government as incompetent and clueless.

“We in Kaduna Central would understand if Senator Shehu Sani restricts his diatribe to Governor El-Rufai, considering the senator's blind antagonism towards his state governor. The governor has so far responded to Senator Shehu Sani's insults with stoic silence. He has never allowed himself to be distracted, as he has put Kaduna State firmly on the path to sustainable progress and long-term prosperity. By working against the President and identifying with the enemies of the Buhari administration, Senator Shehu Sani has not only betrayed his constituents, he has declared war on them. We the people of Kaduna Central unanimously support President Buhari. We sent Senator Shehu Sani to the Senate to work towards the success of the Buhari government, not work in direct opposition to it,” stated the Concerned Indigenes of Kaduna Central Senatorial District.

More drama has continued to unfold in the Stephanie Otobo sex saga as the scandal with Apostle Johnson Suleiman of Omega Fire Ministries, drags on.

Stephanie, a Canada based musician had earlier alleged that Apostle Johnson Suleman was her secret lover who promised her marriage and breached the promise to marry her.

Otobo went back to Apostle Suleiman’s church in Auchi during the monthly Fire Night programme (an all-night vigil programme) on Friday night of January 26th to confess before the mammoth crowd that she was used by “some powerful politicians and men of God” to destroy the character and reputation of Apostle Suleman.

To strengthen her resolve to free her mind from her manipulators she has deposed to an Affidavit of Disclaimer, stating, interalia that the statement of defence filed at Ikeja high court, purportedly on her behalf by Keyamo was a ruse and a huge scam. According to Otobo the statement and photographs exhibited by Keyamo in the court processes did not emanate from her.

According to her, she was invited to Keyamo’s chambers to sign a bundle of documents. When she asked what the bundle of documents were meant for, she alleged she was deceived and told they were to be sent to the Nigeria Police to release her phone handset seized from her in March 2017 when she was arrested by the Police for blackmail and extortion, following the complaint of Apostle Suleman.



According to reports, lawyers from Festus Keyamo's chambers have since gone to Ikeja high court where the civil suit filed by Apostle Suleman against Otobo came up for hearing seeking to withdraw as Otobo”s counsel.
