DIY approach doesn't mean u shouldn't hire professionals or proficient hands to handle your project, it just make u more involved in the project. Not that u should go about doing everything yourself or hire quacks while u assume the position of a supervisor in something u weren't trained in.

My own understanding of DIY when it comes to building is like d project manager of your project. It doesn't stop one from engaging a professional. Because i have never for once seen any building owner here doing plumbing works or electrical wiring, because u will never learn anything in toto from youtube. The idea we share here is to have a clue, so we can interact with professionals without looking lost. Not that we are gonna do it ourselves. There is no way someone will learn electrical wiring from NL & Youtube without field training & wire a 3 bedroom bungalow, u go just burn your house. DIY approach is for minor fault, like fixing d wall socket, joining d tv wire etc...not full scale project. Whether u use the DIY route or not, u will still hire a professional or someone who has been in that line to execute the job while u watch. Just that most times the DIY approach gives one the confidence to hire less experienced persons, giving room for shoddy jobs.

Since your building is a bungalow, galvanized pipe will do, u don't need H beam.

My Oga it's not like that you must be careful how you choose Architect for your Project for instance if your Project is around Ikoyi VI, Lekki Phase 1,and some selected Areas you better be ready to pay proper professional fees who's is just 4.75percent of the cost of the project,(though I can still negotiate but the Architect structural and services Engineers must be registered with their individual professional bodies) or else you are going to face plenty wahala from LABSCA , BCPG etc

Of course the magnitude & location of a project will definitely influence choice of architect & engineers.

If u see the standard price rate NIA stated for designs u go run...Just go for an architect u can afford. They all have varying prices according to qualification & years of practice. A professor in architecture i know will never design for u below 500k. But though he doesn't accept all job. While a graduate architect can take 50k. It is like that.

Maybe because lagos is a riverine area, reason for the salty sand. We don't experience it in my area in Edo state. Maybe because of presence of less river, both the white & red like sand are used for concrete works.

What they have in lagos is best classified as soft sand & not sharp sand.

Salt content in these sands differ. The whitish ones tend to have more salt which can attack the concrete and iron rods in your foundation.

Sharp sand is sharp sand.
What u just described is soft sand recommended for block work & not sharp sand. u are mixing it up, sharp sand for concrete works & it is different from soft sand. There is a distinct difference between sharp sand & soft sand. What u have mostly in lagos is soft sand & not sharp sand. Pls do your research.
