Pio Gama Pinto attracted me because of his Pan Africanism and passion for the well being of Kenyans and Africans,Robert Ouko was one of the learned Kenyan fellas back then.Of course, they both don't match Mboya's legacy, demeanour, charm and wisdom but they had their own place in our history! Significant they were that I learnt of them in primary's social studies texts! And all these men were victims of political assassination!
rvp20182:
Please sometimes you make shocking comparison..Ouko or Pio Gama cannot wash Tom Mboya. The were just all victim of political assisaniation..Maybe Mwai Kibaki could match Mboya Brilliance.Kenya is ahead of say many countries thanks to brilliance of Mboya and Kibaki.

I sometimes wonder how things would have been if he could have been a president or just alive! It is sad that we lost brilliant people,Robert Ouko and Pio Gama Pinto were other trailblazers victims of political elimination! The list is long though!
rvp20182:
JF Kennedy,Tom Mboya &Martin Luther jnr were so ahead of their time they fell to assassin's bullet but their legacy endures.Tom Mboya by 30 was already a colossus - his opponents scrambled a law to bar young people from leadership. You can imagine someone who counted JFk Kennedy the powerful and loved US president as a friend..his brilliance, eloqounces and charisma was Obamasque in 1950s.And yet he was mostly self taught and never attended college.

Kikuyu1 - African Student Airlift programme - gave us the crucial head-start thanks to Tom Mboya. Mboya was so brilliant & powerful they had to enact a bill in parliament to introduce 35yr age limit so he couldn't ran PORK - and he eventually fell to assasin bullet.

In April 1959 Kenyan trade unionist Tom Mboya came to the United States for a six week tour organized by the American Committee on Africa. Mboya gave speeches on college and university campuses. In total he spoke at nearly 100 meetings. On campuses where he spoke he met with the president or other officials and asked for scholarships for African students. At the end of the tour Mboya had promises for over 40 scholarships. Shortly after Mboya returned to Kenya the African American Students Foundation (AASF) was established to raise money to bring the students to the United States. The AASF raised an initial $39,000 and the first 81 students arrived in September 1959. Baseball star Jackie Robinson and performers Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier led the initial fundraising. There was a two day orientation program for the initial 81 students. In 1960 the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation gave $100,000 to AASF. As a result in 1960 three planes were chartered bringing 222 students from east and central Africa. In all over 770 students from 10 East African countries, 85 percent from Kenya, came to the United States and most returned to civil servant positions after independence. AASF was founded by William X. Scheinman who served on the board. Frank Montero and Ted Kheel were also on the board of AASF. Cora Weiss was Executive Director and student adviser. AASF sponsoring organizations included the American Committee on Africa and the Phelps Stokes Fund. Students included Wangari Maathai who later became the first African women Nobel Peace laureate. Barack Obama Sr, father of 44th President of the United States, did not come on one of the planes charted by the African American Students Foundation but did receive financial support from the foundation once he was in the U.S. See Airlift to America: How Barack Obama, Sr., John F. Kennedy, Tom Mboya, and 800 East African Students Changed Their World and Ours by Tom Shachtman.

This guy is loosing it.He says it's 40-45 then he again says 50,yet again he says it's 70.The meager revenues you collect can't allow you to have such a budget!
forgiveness:
Now you are talking. Compare Nigeria's $70b budget for both Federal and state governments with Kenya's $29b dollars for both central and 47 counties. Then you can see Kenya is below the pecking order. grin

I have proven beyond reasonable doubt with concrete, genuine and reliable source that Nigeria's Service sector is 3- 4 times of Kenya's service sector. No need for unecessary perambulating.

If you now add Nigeria's industrial and Agricultural sector, Nigeria budget is more realistic than that of Kenya's. grin

Go and ask why your budget was slashed. grin

Budgetary deficits are always going to be there

Very few countries have a surplus in their budget

But Nigeria's budget projections and estimates are way exaggerated! So it's hard knowing how much they really spend!

Nigeria's budget fluctuates on how much oil will be selling per barrel! The economy is still much dictated by oil!

They are the masters of unrealistic budgets!

''He said: “I am just quoting the Senate Leader from his speech, which said the 2018 budget was designed to consolidate on the achievements of the 2016 and 2017 budgets. What was done in 2017 when less than 15 per cent of that budget was released? Nothing was done and that was why I called it (2018 budget proposal) fictitious. I am very sorry if that is the word he is bothered about. I will withdraw the word ‘fictitious’ and use ‘totally imaginary.” According to Abaribe, the receivables (revenue) in the budget were being exaggerated, adding that the revenues were only one-tenth of the figures being claimed by the government. He stated that the budget was being predicated on parameters that have been destroyed by facts available.
Senator Ben Murray Bruce (PDP Bayelsa East) in his own contribution said that the 2018 budget proposal is a “budget of active imagination,” as according to him, the budget is already committing 25 percent to debt servicing.''

This was quoted from http://www.thetidenewsonline.com/2017/11/29/senators-slam-fgs-2018-budget-say-projections-unrealistic/

rvp20183:
For argument sake - let say it's 28.9B (round off to 29B) - against yours 25B - that is entirely based on Oil (with unrealistic projections smiley).

rvp20183:
Wake us up when that happens. Tanzania never really had a corruption problem like we do have in Kenya or Nigeria. I mean Nyerere never stole - he died a pauper. MKapa & Mwinyi were never really corrupt. Maybe there was nascent corruption under Jakaya Kikwete but it's nothing serious. Tanzania has never had problem with it's political stability or governance.

Your problems we have told you is the debilitating legacy of Ujamaa/communism that has bred an environment where personal advancement is frown upon & private wealth is discouraged. That philosophy is still manifested in all levels.

You need to really embrace capitalism. Start with land. Privatize all lands save for land reserved for public goods (road reserves, forests, parks). Improve protection of private property. Allow people to sell land freely. I know you fear Kenyans will come and take over you land - that is just irrational - Uganda has lot of arable - and nobody is taking over.

And then continue with privatization - build a private sector like we've done here and stop meddling in private business. Gov should facilitate private sector and should ensure there is stability in policy - don't wake up like Magufuli with sweeping changes everyday. That scare investors.

Once you've planted the seed of capitalism - Tanzanians will stop being lazy and jealous - and become hardworking & aspirational (greedy for success). US is the capital of capitalism and their work ethic is un-matched - people work 2-3 jobs for long hours - so they can live great lives.Kenyans also wake up early and sleep late because there is no community or gov or village to bail you out - you work or you starve - the more you work the richer you get.

Your other problems we have told you is very bad education where 90% of your kids end up in High school without the ability to write, read or speak English and they are expected to be taught complex stuff in English- the language of instruction. Your language policy has failed but you're stuck right there. You either decide to go fully Kiswahili or English. Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia, Zim, Uganda and name them - had these debates - and all decided English was the way to go.

rvp20183:
Total state+federal budget of 2017 was 41B ( I am adding 1B for 3 missing states). Get us Local Authorities Budget so we can conclude this debate. Kenya total budget for Counties & National - was around 35B (National had 31B). As you can see with all the OIL and with all 200M people you budget is really TINY - you are 5B better than Kenya - and yet most of the budget making is unrealistic - unrealistic estimate of oil production & internal revenues.

It was 30 billion US dollars! https://www.the-star.co.ke/news/2018/06/14/inside-the-sh3-trillion-201819-budget_c1772862

This was your budget! There's nothing like 70 b!

https://af.reuters.com/article/investingNews/idAFKBN1JG1IR-OZABS

Kenya's counties collect their own revenues for their own budgetary commitments and also receive a 15 % of share of the total government's budget!

How you come up with numbers to get 70b is still vague.Provide irrefutable proof of each state budget and it's own revenues.Come up with clear computations to make up that combined 70b. Otherwise, you'll be talking to a wall!

forgiveness:
It is very disappointing that Kenya's here can't understand the basics core of government..

Under Kenya's unitary system of government, budget is allocated to the 47 counties in Kenya.

Kenya's total budget for 2018/2019 was just $24b dollars. From this, $2.7b is allocated to the 47 counties due to Kenya's system of government. This is called devolution budget in Kenya.

That is not the case with Nigeria. There's nothing like devolution budget allocated to the states rather all states generates revenue to make their own budgets.

For example, Lagos state 2018 budget was $3.9b dollars. River State was $1.4b dollars. Akwa Ibom $1.8b dollars. Cross River State was $3.6b dollars. Delta state was $1b dollars. Ogun state was $1b dollars etc This 6 states total budget for 2018 was approximately $12.7b dollars. if I add the remaining 30 states and FCT, we are talking about $45b - $50b dollars. Now, add that to our national budget, we can't get nothing less than $70b dollars.

This allocation is called devolution of
