Good enough for the Super Eagles?
Of course he is. I will keep saying it that Osimhen has no place on that list. Someone like Adi could have replaced him.

COMMUNICATION THEORY 101

You are an extremely brilliant polylinguist with encyclopedic knowledge of the world and there is something vitally important you must do. This job is literally a matter of life and death for millions of people--you cannot allow a single mistake.

There are 30 children in your village under 5 years old and they all speak different languages. The job is to give a message to every one of the 30 children. It is crucial that the message is accurately relayed and properly understood. How will you do it?

You think of two options.

Option (1) Choose one infant and pass the message to him in his language, then leave him to tell all the other children.

Option (2) Tell each child yourself and make sure they all understood the message.

Only one of these options is likely to work and you don't have to be brilliant to figure out which one.

When God wanted to reveal himself to the world, he chose option (1). That leaves three possibilities, God is stupid, or he wanted the plan to fail, or the Hebrews made the whole thing up and there was no God and no message.

What do you think the likely answer is?

Granted that Ronaldo and Messi have exceptional talent but for just these two to dominate the scene for this long shows the dearth of quality players in this email. By the way I do not agree that Zidane and Ronaldo were on the same level with the players you mentioned.
Messi and Ronaldo would have dominated in the Zidane, Ronaldo era. Their domination now does not show the dearth of quality players, it shows how lucky folks like Ronaldinho were. In fact, you constantly hear them say that these two are the best they have seen and wished they played with them.

Based on the quality they bring to the team at their prime, Zidane is not far away from Xavi and Iniesta. People forget how Iniesta and Xavi were eclipsed for the top award just by being teammates with Messi.

Based on sheer quality, Ronaldo de Lima is not far away from Zlatan. If Zlatan was born a Brazilian in the Ronaldo era, he would have won the World Cup. There is nothing Ronaldo would have done to win the Euros with this Swedish team. In fact based on sheer consistency in churning out the numbers, Zlatan beats him. Everywhere Zlatan went, he was banging in goals and all his teammates and coaches recognize the value and extraordinarily leadership he brings on the team. Ronaldo is more skilful and has more pace, but sheer leadership, strength and aerial prowress, Zlatan is miles ahead.

Anyway, back to the Eagles. I'm disappointed with this list. Osimhen has no place in the team, neither does Shehu, or Muhammed Musa, or Awaziem. We need to encourage players playing regularly. I expected to see Sone Aluko. And since the Nigerian league is in session, we should have called up players playing in the local league for Osimhen, Musa and Awaziem. I watched a NPFL game the other day and my, the quality has come up. I heard StarTimes is now sponsoring the NNL, we have to encourage these projects.

I keep repeating that there are excellent players in the NPFL, and I know someone like komekn will shoot back that they are overaged. Doesn't matter. If you are good enough, you are young enough. There is no reason why that guy that scored the CNN goal of the week cannot be invited to camp. This is how to develop the league. That La Liga has even partnered with the league and there are players already leaving for the best league in the world shows we are doing a world of disservice to them.

I was pained to see that 25-year old Rangers guy go to Sweden, he has no reason to go there based on his quality. He is better than some of these players we see in the french league. If he had been recognized and played by past coaches, I am positive that he would have performed. Someone with the quality of Nwobodo is rotting away in the league and we are inviting Osimhen who has not played a single game of professional football. SMH

Not to come across as a cynic but I am of the view that modern football is on a downward spiral and nothing is more indicative of this than the fact that for close to eight years now just two footballers have taken turns with the world footballer of the year award. From Marco Van Basten to Ronaldinho and all the greats in between like Rivaldo, Zidane, Ronaldo and as sublime as there were none of them dominated world football as much as Ronaldo and Messi have done in contemporary times. Modern day football lacks flair. It's just passes, running, passes, running (I get tired of it) and there's too much emphasis on raw athleticism and winning. The great 10- the maestro who directs the orchestra- has gradually been phased out. Read what Fabregas had to say about the trend in modern football. http://m.goal.com/s/en-au/news/4030/english-premier-league/2017/02/09/32474462/fabregas-football-has-become-less-about-talent-and-more
Forget story...if Messi and Ronaldo were around during the Zidane, Rivaldo and Ronaldo days, they would not the smell the World's best player award. These two guys, especially Messi, are extra-terrestrial. Zidane, Ronaldo and Rivaldo are on the same level as Zlatan, Pirlo, Iniesta, Xavi, and Buffon. The only era where Messi and Ronaldo would really have competition is the Maradona era, and even with that, Messi will take the lead.

Buhari has been speaking via different aides — Femi Adesina, etc. So many people have been claiming to have spoken to Buhari and they want us to believe that Buhari is still alive in London.

However many people have rejected this. They don't want intermediaries: they want direct evidence, something like video evidence. Why do we need direct evidence from Buhari? Because we know that human beings can make mistakes or outrightly lie.

God has been speaking via different prophets. So many people have been claiming to have spoken with God and they want us to believe that God is alive in heaven and on earth.

However not so many people have rejected this. People love the intermediaries: they don't want direct evidence, something like video evidence. Why don't we need direct evidence from God? Because we don't mind if human beings make mistakes or outrightly lie.

And then you say "No, don't compare God and Buhari. Buhari is a mere mortal while God is the almighty creator of the universe."

No, I shouldn't compare God and Buhari. God is infinitely greater than Buhari and thus the evidence for God should be infinitely greater than the evidence for Buhari. If we need something as convincing as video evidence for Buhari, we should need something more infinitely convincing than that for God.

What evidence do atheists have for non existent of God?
Your definition of an atheist is faulty. This is the definition:

"a person who lacks belief in the existence of God or gods."

Atheists don't conclusively say God does not exist, it is the deist or theist that has the burden of proof to show a supernatural being exists.

Christianity EtcRe: My Thoughts And Questions About Religion by joseph1013(op):
HINTS FOR CHRISTIANS

1. Stop praying for your enemies to die. You're not Boko Haram, ISIS or a psychopath. Your "enemies" are often your spouse, you parents, your siblings, your family, your friends, your neighbours, your co workers, your country men... If they all die, who will be left to cope with you?

2. Stop judging people. It's petty. You're a sinner too in somebody else's religious worldview. You eat pork, don't you? To a Muslim, you are a sinner. He who is without sin, let him cast the first stone.

3. Stop praying for unmerited favour. It is fraudulent. Ensure that you merit every favour you pray for. If your son studies well and another child who never studies does better than he in class every time because the teacher is always rigging the results, how would you feel? "Unmerited favour" is a huge part of the reason why our country is corrupt, inefficient and backward. Merit your favour.

4. Do not protect shady practices because your pastor is involved. Let everyone be accountable to everyone. Let husbands and wives be accountable to each other on how family resources are utilized. Let political and religious leaders be accountable to those whom they lead. There is nothing wrong with being anointed. But there is a problem if an anointed is shouting "touch not my anointed" when told to be accountable.

5. Stop disturbing people's sleep with loud speakers. If they are interested in your message, they will look for your church. That they are sleeping at home means sleep is their priority at the moment.

6. Stop scaring people with hell fire. If your message is true and inspiring, you don't have to bring drama and ojuju calabar into it. A beautiful message is beautiful in and of itself. No need for fear and threats. Telling people they will burn in hell is not a message of love. It is a message of terror. It nauseates many people.

7. Stop disturbing people in buses in the name of bus evangelism. Imagine if Muslims start shouting Allahu Akbar with megaphones and Sango worshippers are shouting eriwooo ya! all at the same time in the same bus? Allow people to enjoy the peace they paid for. Allow the driver to concentrate.

8. It is possible for people to be good, decent and hard working citizens without being Christians. Judge people by their characters. Not by their religions or denominations.

9. People don't become Bill Gates or Dangote by typing Amen on Facebook and WhatsApp. They get educated, learn a trade, excel at their jobs and invest. Prosperity is not just for Christians. It's for every citizen who works hard and works smart.

10. People don't get smart by reading just one book. They read plenty books. Plenty. When you're asked your opinion about the world, quote from different books. Not just one book. That's why you didn't do CRK alone in secondary school. Quote the appropriate book for the appropriate question.

I'd particularly like to bring to your notice the argument one particular religious friend of mine put forward to counter/answer your question. She said and i quote: 'God is all-knowing and he has given us a free will. God has given us several options to choose from and he knows the outcome of all those options but he DOES not know which option we'd choose. What to choose is left to us to decide. He only knows the ending of all options'.

Now, for the 1st time, i just got to know there are actually things God does not know.
Indeed. This is a very inconvenient truth for the religious as it brings up some logical inconsistencies in the idea of an omnipotent god. So much so that apologists have always come up with convoluted answers to try and address this, like your friend did. Makes no sense to reconcile freewill with omniscience. THE BOOK SAYS SO...

A woman marries a very faithful man whom she is very emotionally attached to and who gives her comfort from time to time. But guess who told the woman that he is absolutely faithful? The man himself!

So one day she comes home and meets a naked woman on her husband's laps, with his lips around her ni.pples. The woman then takes a few steps back, checks again and is sure she is seeing what she is seeing. She calls out her husband, "Johnny, no be you be this?" Johnny says: "yes, na me na." "Johnny, no be woman dey on top your laps so?" Johnny says, sure na so.

Then the woman begins to reason to herself. No o. There has to be an explanation for this. This is not what it looks like. Johnny is absolutely faithful. He says so himself. So what I am seeing here is not what it appears like. I am taking Johnny out of context. I need to look at Johnny when he is dressed up to know it is he I see with a woman in our bedroom!

You see this hypothetical story above? That is how it is when people show passages talking about rape, murder, genocide, slavery, incest, etc, to religionists and they insist that their books are the infallible words of a deity. Because the books say so themselves.

What about what the evidence says before our very eyes? It is even worse that the books are in public domain, not in the bedroom where there are no witnesses.

TIAGO ILORI PROGRESSING NICELY ON LOAN AT BORDEAUX grin

Tiago Ilori Progressing Nicely on loan at Bordeaux
Liverpool’s highly rated central defender, Tiago Ilori, is now beginning to blossom at Bordeaux after a tough start to life on loan in Ligue 1.

A hamstring injury back in October against Reims, that consequently saw him miss around two months, curtailed what had been a decent start to his loan spell.
grin

Ilori Progress

Since his return from injury, however, the Portuguese’s performances have been rather encouraging, as he continues to justify why Liverpool were so keen to acquire him, and paid £7 million to do so grin.

While he’s been partnered with multiple central defenders for a variety of reasons since coming back, including fellow Liverpool target Lamine Sane, Nicolas Pallois and Cedric Yambere, it’s been important to note Ilori has been a constant. His form has been solid too, something that’s obviously been greatly helped by the fact that he’s remained fit. grin

Obtaining playing continuity is vital for any footballer’s development, and in Ilori’s case, it’s fantastic to see him reaping the benefits of getting vital top flight minutes.

Playing against the likes of PSG, Saint Etienne, Guingamp and Toulouse this season will act as a terrific stepping stone for him in his quest to be a mainstay for Liverpool in the future. shocked shocked grin

Lining up in his now-customary position on the right side of central defence against Lens on the weekend, the 22-year-old produced another very positive display. tongue grin

Up against Lens’ physically imposing forward Adamo Coulibaly, who really is a brute of a man, Illori stuck to his role nicely, successfully limiting his impact shocked grin.

On many occasions, the former Sporting prodigy beat Coulibaly in the air and even held up well in battles of strength, but the area in which Ilori absolutely dominated related to sheer pace. shocked grin

He made certain that Lens had little joy playing balls in behind Bordeaux’s defence. Despite their relatively high line, the unbelievable covering speed and anticipation of the youngster almost completely nullified this avenue of attack for the away side.

Even on the odd occasion where a ball went over his defensive partner Yambere, by using his speed, Ilori would ofen motor across and kill the move. On 40 minutes a perfect example of this arose. Here, after Pablo Chavarria had broken through in behind Yambare, it looked as though the Argentine was clean in. It wasn’t to be. Thankfully for Bordeaux, Ilori charged across the field to execute a precise sliding tackle to knock the ball out for a throw in and save his team. grin

It was a magnificent piece of action, and one that illustrated just how good he is physically. He can leap, he’s fast and even quite strong despite his slender frame, and when combined with the fact he’s 190cm tall and only 22 years of age, he undoubtedly ticks almost all the boxes required in a modern day centre back. shocked grin

Intriguingly, and on a side note, he unsurprisingly still holds the record for the fastest 30-metre sprint at Sporting.

The youngster, also, showcased his ability to take up excellent positions and make good decisions – with and without the ball.

Hardly ever caught out in this contest was Illori, for he positioned himself intelligently enough to cope with any situation. He stayed goalside when tracking markers and didn’t step up and lunge into tackles overzealously. The maturity he showed when addressing the problems ahead of him, and in dealing with them in a calm and composed manner, was a real highlight.

Seeing as Lens often looked to move the ball down the flanks and whip crosses in for Coulibaly, it was impressive to note just how well Ilori dealt with these situations. As mentioned above, his concentration and awareness to remain goal side and keep track of his man was wonderful. This, in turn, meant that the languid figure was so often perfectly situated to clear and cut out crosses. The whopping 11 successful clearances he made depicted his effectiveness aptly here.

Whenever Bordeaux look to facilitate their attacks, their fullbacks Diego Contento and Mariano always have a key role in providing width for Les Girondins. So with this prerequisite in place, the covering work Ilori undertook was crucial in allowing his right fullback, the marauding Mariano, to motor upfield freely. It also gave the Brazilian peace of mind knowing that Ilori would cover his man, Lens left-winger Baptiste Guillaume, if a turnover occurred.

On the ball, the elegant stopper exhibited that fine passing range he possesses. While he often opted to play simple passes into Bordeaux’s deep-lying midfielder Gregory Sertic, his accurate long balls, horizontal and vertical, illustrated delightfully his quality in possession. This facet of his game should mean that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has little hesitation when integrating him in next season – if he chooses to use him.

The technical quality of Tiago hit us,” mused Bordeaux manager Sagnol on this. shocked grin

Statistically, his numbers are rather impressive for Bordeaux too, and consist of him averaging 2.2 tackles per game, 2.7 interceptions pg and a colossal 6.1 clearances per game.

The former Granada man recently commented on his desire to return to England and to have an impact. “My long term plan is to play and win titles for Liverpool Football Club. The team they are building can be huge, and I want to be a part of that.”

All things considered, this wildly talented Liverpool loanee really does look to have a bright future ahead of him. The idea of a future central defensive pairing of Mamadou Sakho and Ilori is something that’s gaining traction, and could well become a reality sooner rather than later. We’ll just have to wait and see what Rodgers’ plans are for this very gifted defender.

Did the last @bolded answer ya questions?

The boy's heart was in Liverpool. grin

PSALM 14

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God."

I've long lost count of the times Christians have quoted this verse to me. Evidently, they see no irony when grown ups, who believe in invisible beings, magic, monsters and eternal life--all without a shred of evidence, say the fools are those who look for logical coherence and validated evidence before they believe anything. WTF?

These people also lack logic. A cursory review of this psalm would show it is a lie. The very next sentence says, "They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is NONE that doeth good." [My emphasis.]

So, you need only find ONE non-believer who has done good and you have proven the psalm a lie. Well, here are three: Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and George Soros. They are the three most generous philanthropists alive and they are all atheists.

How hard was that? Too hard apparently for logic-challenged Christians, who lack a sense of irony.

BREAKING OUR INTUITIONS

Saw a debate a short while ago about the origin of the universe and how to find out what happenes. So, permit me to rant a little.

Sometimes looking backwards can give us insight into the future. There are things we understand today that would have been incomprehensible, even absurd, to people in the past.

The idea that the Earth could be spherical was once totally counterintuitive--surely people on the underside of the Earth would fall off? It made no sense.

Another such idea is that the Earth is not supported by anything. Surely, the Earth HAS to be supported or it would fall? If we look at ancient "cosmology" we find attempts to explain this mystery. The Earth was said to be flat and supported by turtles, elephants, gods, pillars, or hanging by a thread.

Then we discovered gravity and found a mechanism that allows spherical, unsupported planets to make perfect sense. Nowadays we don't give it a second thought--the counterintuitive has become intuitive. It's hard now to imagine how a planet supported by something could ever have made sense. That idea has become so silly that even children laugh at it.

When we look around us, we find many things that were once thought intuitively impossible but are now commonplace and obvious. Take for example, the idea of sending invisible messages thousands of miles at the speed of light and even passing them through solid walls. This became possible when we discovered electromagnetic radiation and learnt how to use it. Today, the world is alight with EM radiation passing radio, TV and mobile 'phone messages around the world.

Most fundamental shifts in our understanding are brought about by discovering something we previously did not know existed, such as gravity or EM radiation.

Is it likely there are more things we have yet to discover? Definitely. For example, we know there is something we call dark matter but we have no idea what it is or where it came from--calculations just show that something exists. Maybe discovering what dark matter is will again change our perception of what is intuitive and what is counterintuitive.

Intuition is useful but we must recognise its limitations--intuition is based on the world we are familiar with and once we move beyond that world, it may let us down. That is why I shake my head when religious people insist a universe cannot create itself--it's obvious they say!

Well, it is not obvious. Our intuitions are unlikely to extend to the beginning of the universe before there was matter and before there were atoms or even electrons. We already know the world of the very tiny, the quantum world, is strange and counterintuitive and the pre-quantum world may be even stranger.

So let's leave playground philosophising behind us. The job of discovering what happened 13.7 billion years ago is not one that our fallible intuitions will help us with. It is a job for high tech particle accelerators, massive computing power, advanced mathematics and the smartest brains on the planet.

It is unlikely that partisan speculation on Nairaland will help very much.

WELL DONE BELIEVERS!

If you are a god-believer and you read my atheist posts with a nagging feeling there's something wrong--something I misunderstand or facts I am unaware of, or faultlines in my logic that you can't quite put your finger on... then I say, well done!

Well done because you have passed the stage of rage. Well done because you keep reading and you don't allow tired and flawed apologetics, the many likes we have on the nairaland religion section, to satisfy you any more.

Well done because you have reached the stage of wonder. You wonder about many things. Especially you wonder if you could be wrong and if joseph1013 could be right. You wonder if there is another way of making sense of your life's experiences?

You can't see your way through it yet but you realise you are on a journey and one day things will start to slot into place in a new, more positive and more satisfying way.

So well done. Don't stop now. Keep travelling and keep thinking. It will be so worth it.

IMPORTANT: CLARIFYING TERMINOLOGY

There are some terms that are so widely misunderstood, especially as they are used in the scientific world, that I thought it important to clarify them.

FACT
Something that is observable such as a rock, a planet, an animal or an event, for example, steam is emitted when water boils. Generally, observations are not elevated to "facts" until they are sufficiently verified that we can be quite sure we are not mistaken.

CONJECTURE
An initial guess or hunch which attempts to explain why facts are as they are. For example, we may observe the "fact" of mountains and a conjecture will suggest how they might have been formed.

HYPOTHESIS
A refined conjecture. An hypothesis is a possible explanation for facts. It must be stated in an unambiguous way and in such a way as to be falsifiable. It is unreasonable to accept an hypothesis as probably true until it has survived multiple attempts to be falsified and has accumulated considerable supporting evidence.

A simple hypothesis might be, "Light enables plants to grow". The growth of plants can be measured whilst varying their exposure to light. If plants can be shown to grow without, light this hypothesis would be falsified.

LAW
An hypothesis EXPLAINS facts whilst a law DESCRIBES facts mathematically. Laws have to be extremely well tested and unfalsified.

For example, Ohm's Law for electric circuits states: I = V / R
(current = voltage divided by resistance). An hypothesis would attempt to explain why this law is true.

THEORY
A very well substantiated explanation for a wide range of facts. A theory will usually integrate and generalise a large number of hypotheses. Theories are the highest achievements of science.

Examples are atomic theory, evolutionary theory and the theory of relativity, .

MYTH
A conjecture, dreamed up so long ago by scientifically illiterate folk, that to rational and educated modern people, it looks like complete bollocks.

An example is the creation myth in Genesis.

Super Eagles Coach Rohr Roars – I Want To Oversee Nigeria Youth & Female Teams

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/image-80.jpg

The dwindling fortunes of Nigeria in age group competitions and female football is giving coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr, a lot to worry about.

Rohr whose main job is to steer the Super Eagles back to the top of Africa Football has so far succeeded in turning around the fortunes of the Super Eagles, with three wins from their first three games under the German.

However, it was not only with the senior side that work needed to be done. Recent results at age-group level had also not been as successful as the past.

“This is something that I wanted to help change,” Rohr said. “I also offered to accompany the local selection, even if I was not in charge of it directly. I also said I would keep an eye out for the national women’s team. These are some of the things I said I wanted to do when I started in August last year.”

IS SATAN GOD?

Many people believe God is everywhere at the same time.

Omnipresence is how God can listen to billions of prayers, observe everything that happens and eavesdrop on billions of thoughts all at the same time.

Often these same believers blame Satan when things go wrong. And they blame him for their own bad behaviour and the bad behaviour of others.

I wonder if they realise that Satan too would have to be omnipresent to accomplish all these heinous deeds simultaneously?

Isn't that giving Satan just a bit too much credit? Or is Satan God?

Unless there is a serious injury crisis, we might not see Kelechi on the pitch again this season.
Does that not mean he won't be called for the AFCON qualifiers?
