That is the point. Then add to not playing a flamboyant role. That is why Mikel's great contribution is not recognized. If Mikel did what he did at Barcelona, he would be highly rated. Xabi Alonso was a great defensive midfielder in Real Madrid and Liverpool. He is doing well in Bayern Munich. He's not on my list.
Casemiro is one of the best defensive midfielder in the world right playing for Madrid. He's not on my list.
Sami Khedira is doing wonders in Juventus and Germany as a defensive Midfielder. He's not on my list.
Daniele De Rossi is a much respected defensive midfielder for AS Roma and Italy. He's not on my list.
It's not because Mikel did not play for Madrid or Barcelona that I do not think he is not World Class. |

And please, Ngolo Kante is not World Class. He just started his career. That may be true. I can agree with that.
There are many very good players that are not on my list. The decision on Mikel is not personal. Players like Jordi Alba, Pepe, Pique, Ivan Rakitic, Mesut Özil, Toni Kroos, Kevin de Bruyne, Gareth Bale, Kroos, Xabi Alonso, Alexis Sanches, David Silva, Thomas Müller are not on the list. No one can argue that these ones are great players, even legends, like Mikel. But are they World Class? I will disagree. |

Mikel is in the list because he consistently won for his club and when it came to the country, he consistently performed at a top level. From our qualifiers, to AFCON, to the CONFEDS and even the Olympics. Even in our current qualifiers, he is still one of our top performers. As tbaba1234 rightly put it, anyone lasted as long as Mikel at Chelsea in a flamboyant role will definitely be recognized as World Class. I think this is a great response:edi287: Mikel will definitely go down as a legend and one of our best midfielders ever, but he certainly was never World Class. Talented yes, but I'm sorry, he never got to a world class level at his peak. I agree he was a bit underrated in England, but no way in the world was he world class. I don't think there was ever a time in his career he was a top 10 CM/DM in world football. |

WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE, A TOUR OR A BOOK?
You deeply love physics and you are thrilled by discovering things about the universe. You want to learn more and you are lucky enough to be given the choice of a tour or a book.
1) The Tour
You can take a tour of scientific establishments and talk to the most accomplished scientists alive today. Your tour will start in Geneva at the Large Hadron Collider where you will learn state-of-the-art particle physics.
Next to the Max Planck Society in Munich, Germany to learn the latest thinking in quantum mechanics and visit the advanced materials lab where you will learn about the Society's world-class research in nanochemistry.
Whilst in Germany you move onto Darmstadt, to the European Space Operations Centre to talk to the director of the Rosetta mission that landed the Philae spacecraft on the comet Churyumov–Gerasimenko.
Then on to NASA to talk to the team operating the Curiosity Rover roaming Mars. You will also visit the teams behind the Hubble and Kepler space observatories and be told about the flood of discoveries made by those two spacecraft.
Finally, you have a two-week visit to the International Space Station where you can question scientists about the experiments they have carried out whilst living in space.
2) The book The book is no ordinary book. This book is said to have been authored by the ineffable being who literally created the entire universe from nothing. This gigantic intellectual figure, apparently knows everything, not only about the universe and how it was made but about its past, present and future.
If this is true, the book could be a far superior way of learning about the cosmos than the tour. And the book comes with an amazing bonus--you are offered the opportunity to actually talk to the creator directly, one-on-one. That could be an unparalleled learning experience.
There is just one problem--it may not be true. The book may have been written, not by a transcendent intellect, but by relatively simple men whose answers to questions of the cosmos came to them in dreams or from stories passed down by word of mouth over many generations.
Before you make a decision between the tour and the book, you need to decide; is the book genuine or fake? Fortunately, you are allowed to preview it.
The book starts off badly. It does not mention big bang cosmology, nor does it mention the development of the universe over 13.7 billion years--it does not even mention gravity without which there is no cosmology. It talks of stars as lights in a dome over the Earth and states they could fall onto the Earth! It even suggests the Earth is flat. It tells of creation by magic and omits everything we know to be true through several centuries of painstaking observation, validation and testing.
After the preview you make a decision and it is easy. You are not interested in mythology--you are interested in reality. The tour will be the greatest experience of your life.
The book can go in the waste basket. |

...Arsenal Iwobi Eyes Ozil’s Spot – I grew Up As A Number 10
https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-82.jpg
He may still be seen as a relative newcomer, but Alex Iwobi recently reached a significant career milestone when he made his 50th Arsenal appearance.
The Nigeria international has made huge strides since his first-team breakthrough, and says two particular teammates have aided his development.
“I never thought I would be here at the age of 20, it’s an amazing feeling to have made more than 50 appearances for Arsenal,” Iwobi said. “It is just the start of my career basically, so I just need to get more goals, more assists and make more appearances and d
“The manager, Steve Bould, everyone – even the players – have all given me advice on what to do, helping me on and off the pitch. Everyone has helped get to where I am today.
“[The biggest influence on me] would probably be Jack Wilshere, but he has not been around recently. He talks to me off the pitch because he has been through the same system as me, I just watch what he does – especially as I grew up as a No 10 and he’s a No 10.
“Now I would say it is Francis Coquelin, he is always talking to me. After the Watford game he told me what I did well, and what I need to improve on. He’s definitely one who keeps me in check.”

goldfish80: Onazi is not doing badly at his club at all,if you've been following developments. At the long run, Mikel will be eased out of the team. I don't expect Mikel being a super regular heading into the world cup next. Players like Iwobi, Ndidi,Onazi, Etebo, Nwakali kelechi and a support cast of Ogu, Etisi will be holding sway. As long as Mikel proves himself in Camp, he will continue to be a regular taken out around the hour mark.
Oh, I love Esiti. The guy just never gets those opportunities. |

princesuko: It's criminal not to put Iniesta,Kroos and Aguero . Would Replace Boateng with Pique/Ramos tho apart from that I think the list is fair. Iniesta is washed up these days. The Iniesta of 2017 is no longer the Iniesta of 2010.
Kroos, I don't know. He's lost his touch and regularly underwhelms these days.
Aguero would never be on my list, same reason Higuain would never be there. He's sh*t in Argentina, and this season he's been a shadow of himself in the Cityzen's colours.
Yeah, let's replace Ramos with Boateng. I wonder how I missed him. |

World Class is a relative thing. My definition of a world class player would be somebody, who CONSISTENTLY wins games himself for BOTH club and country. You have to be super consistent to be world class. Left to me, there are only a handful of World Class players in football right now. Thinking at the top of my head, I can't count more than 20.
Goalkeepers: David de Gea, Manuel Neuer, Gianluigi Buffon
Full backs: David Alaba, Marcelo
Centre backs: Thiago Silva, Jerome Boateng, Mats Hummels, Pepe, Diego Godin
Defensive/central midfielders: N’Golo Kanté, Sergio Busquets, Luka Modric
Wingers: Eden Hazard, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi
Strikers: Luis Suárez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robert Lewandowski
In fact, it is possible for the players on my list to be debated, but what that means is that there are even less world class players than I thought. |

Joebie: Just because Mikel has less competition in the national team don't make him world class. I don't know your standard.. but these term is relative to me.. firstly I won't be making comparisons to other African players. Because we don't have a lot I can place in that category at the moment. If I mention Aubemeyang, someone will want to shoot my head and say he is a striker. Mikel cannot even be ranked among the top 10 midfiedlers in the world at the moment.. it's okay to be patriotic.. i don't dislike mikel.. but no self proclaimed soccer guru here will convince me to put him in that world class category.. sorry.. maybe write nairaland owner to kick me out of here since you guys own this place..haha Chief, relax! No need to ask anyone to kick you out. People disagree here all the time. Don't take it personal. Don't be surprised if a lot of people support you when you get into the next argument. That's the way this place is.

TheSuperNerd: Moses switches with Iwobi during our games ooo... Against Algeria, he started on the right before he switched to the left.
But you're right... "Predominantly", Moses is found on the left in Super Eagles games.
So on the right then, Bassogog will bench Iwobi?
On the left No one can bench Moses on that Camerounian team and that is where Moukandjo majorly operated from... "The left"
Moukandjo in the centre?... Yes he can make our first XI... But it's still debatable though.
It is in defence I will comfortably say Cameroun will walk into our squads.... Their fullbacks like Onyango is an example. Who will he bench in the middle? Etebo? Mikel? |

AIG07: Mikel is an overrated Nigerian player-Joebie, 2017.
What can I say ooo? Abeg Nothing. *Make I just laugh small*
I'm not here for an arguement but to make a proposal to coach Rohr n his technical crew to drop John Obi Mikel from our match day squad against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroun come august as some fans have been displeased with his performance since all these yrs point that he has not been justifying his inclusion in the NT. These fans believes that Mikel stay in the NT is long overdue and has contributed little to non to the nations football in recent yrs...blablabla
i have decided not to argue wit any Nigerian on Mikel's contribution to the round leather game both locally n internationally.
Most of these ppl claim to have been following the game since 1100 AD but fail to identify/recognize players who carry the team on their shoulders. The only ones they notice/see are the ones busy showboating, n probably scoring and the funniest part of it all is that the ones who rarely scores but decide to stay back n bring stability to the team are always culprit of bashing n abuse...
This set of ppl are quick to mention Messi n Ronaldo(I'm not taking away anything from them) as yardstick to measure worldclass performance but they've failed to ask themselves why these same players have failed to replicate their clubs achievements in their respective national teams.
Football is Team game and until we learn to appreciate other players performances we will not come to understand the beauty of it.
Mikel might not be banging in goals for the national team but what he brings(vision, creativity, leadership etc) to the table is second to non and you like it or not he is already a football legend and a national hero. Please...why do people make very good points, yet destroy it with absurd analogies and examples? Ronaldo and Messi do not replicate club achievements in their national teams? Really? Were you alive in 2016? |

Iheanacho In Hot Water With Man City Coach After Refusing To Sign Representation Contract
https://allnigeriasoccer.com/football_pics/36480Kelechi.jpg
Kelechi Iheanacho has fallen out of favour with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, and it has been suggested by a City insider that the Nigeria international refused to sign a representation contract with one of the most powerful agencies in the world, Pere Guardiola’s Media Base Sports.
The Taye Academy product has been frozen out of the Citizens squad, and has not been included on their 18-man roster for the last four matches in all competitions.
It was earlier claimed by Chidiebere Nwakali’s camp that Pere Guardiola now looks after the former Flying Eagles midfielder, and the Spanish agent also manages another Man City talent Brahim Díaz, who was rewarded with a new deal in September.
When asked why Iheanacho is no more getting game time, a Manchester City staff told allnigeriasoccer.com : “Kelechi refused to sign a contract with Pere Guardiola, that’s why he is out of the team. ”
Iheanacho is thought to be represented by Gareth Bale’s agency, Stellar Group, but it is being contested by the company that brokered the deal that took him to Manchester City in 2014, First Eleven Management.
