NFF plans Morocco, Algeria friendly for Eagles

https://naijaway.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/oliseh.jpg

The Nigeria Football Federation is to open talks with Morocco, Tunisia or Algeria for a friendly ahead of their crunch two-legged AFCON qualifier against Egypt in March, NFF president Amaju Pinnick has said.

Nigeria take on Egypt in March in a double header, which could well determine the fate of the Super Eagles for Gabon 2017.

Egypt lead the AFCON qualifying group with six points from two matches, two points more than second-placed Nigeria with the overall group winners guaranteed automatic qualification to 2017 AFCON.

Pinnick said the NFF are determined to ensure that the Eagles are in the right frame of mind technically and mentally against the record seven-time African champions.

“I have asked them to begin to shop for a friendly game against Morocco, Tunisia or Algeria in the next available FIFA window,” he said.

“That tells you how important the next AFCON qualifiers are to us. We want to make sure that the Eagles are properly prepared and have an idea of how the North Africans play.

“But in any case, coach Sunday Oliseh has already started studying the tapes of the Egyptians and he is preparing the game plans.”

Nigeria sports minister - Fashola or Lokpobiri?

Ex-Lagos Governor Fashola hands Enyimba Federation Cup
Nigeria sports fans are tipping either former Lagos Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola or ex-Senate sports committee chairman Heineken Lokpobiri to be named the country’s new sports minister.
Fashola and Lokpobiri are to undergo ministerial screening by the senate after they were nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.
A lawyer, Fashola is a well-known Manchester United fan and during his eight-year tenure as Lagos Governor, he got the state government to stage the final of the country’s cup competition.
Lokpobiri from Bayelsa State was the chairman of the senate committee on sports until the last general elections.
However, it is left to be seen whether sports will be run as a ministry or as a commission.

Gawd forbid...you want to waste Fashola's talents in Sports. Send him to Works jor. We need massive infrastructure in the country.

And it seems some people are listening in the coaching crew. I saw a news report on the Seattle Sounder website about how Martins is already pencilled down for a callup in the next matches. That would be well-deserved.

Obafemi Martins expected to make return to Nigeria national team

https://www.360nobs.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Obafemi-Martins.jpg

A "highly-placed source" told Complete Sports Nigeria that Obafemi Martins is on the verge of being called up to the Nigerian national team next month for what would be the Seattle Sounders forward's first international appearance since 2013.

Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh is reportedly unhappy with the offensive output of the Super Eagles as of late, and is considering recalling Martins for November's 2018 preliminary World Cup qualifier against either Djibouti or Swaziland. Nigeria's first-choice strikers as of late, Odion Ighalo and Emmanuel Emenike, have been rather ordinary for the international side and coach Oliseh hopes Martins could provide competition and an option off the bench.

Despite struggles with injury at times, Martins has been in excellent form for the Sounders this season, scoring 14 goals in 18 MLS appearance so far. Oliseh is also reportedly in need of an aggressive forward to press high up the pitch, something Sounders fans are used to seeing from Martins.

If Martins does indeed get called up and chosen to play, he'll be making his 40th appearance for the national side and could add to the 18 goals he's scored for the Super Eagles since he was first called up in 2004.

Martins was a semi regular with the Super Eagles through 2010, when his international career reached its peak and then suddenly fell off. Martins earned 12 caps that year, including two appearances at the World Cup. But after Nigeria's disappointing one-point performance, Martins and several of his teammates fell out of favor. Since then, Martins has received just two caps.

If Martins deserves a call up then d likes of Yakubu deserves a call up too.Simple.After all Yakubu has a better scoring record than Martins. So based on ur argument Yakubu too deserves a call up. Including Osaze.
I personally think you have something personal against Martins since you keep making apples and oranges comparism. So you now accept that MLS is not as bad as you portray. You accept that it is not because he is playing for MLS that Drogba is not called up to the Ivorian team. That's a good start in the honesty game.

Now you have shifted to Yakubu. Let's play that game as well. Tell me Yakubu's new club and how many goals he has scored for them this year. Remember, we are in the tenth month of 2015. Okay, I will do you the honours. Yakubu has scored ZERO goals for Kayserispor this year. Now wait for this, this year alone Martins has scored 15 goals despite having three months of injury. His 15 goals is the highest of any player of Nigerian origin anywhere in the world this year.

You cant make a case for Osaze because he's been on the injury table for most of the year and he is still recuperating. He's not even made West Brom's bench this season. Is that the person on whose case you do not want Martins to be invited? What sort of argument is this?

Honestly, I expect a better argument from you judging from your trumpeted knowledge of the game. That's why I prefer someone who argues with figures like thegoodjoe.

After Beating Racing, Eaglets off to Santiago

https://www.thenff.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/Eaglets-Qatara1.jpg

Nigeria's U-17 team, Golden Eaglets rounded off their tour of Argentina on Monday with a convincing 3-1 win over the U-20 side of Racing Club of Buenos Aires.

The Coach Amuneke-led Eaglets will on Tuesday depart for Santiago for the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in Chile between October 17 and November 8. Victor Osimhen grabbed a brace in the 12th and 56th minute Samuel Chukwueze added a third for the Eaglets. Gutiares scored for Racing in the highly entertaining match.

Amuneke described the impressive performance of Eaglets as very encouraging, adding that the pre-World Cup camping in Buenos Aires has added value to the team's preparation ahead of Chile 2015.

"The most important thing is to see the players grow from strength to strength and I'm particularly pleased with their performance against Racing today," Amuneke told thenff.com; "We are impressed because the Eaglets were able to implement all what we have been teaching them since
we started."

He was also of the view that winning their two-match friendly against the Argentine U-17 (2-1) and U-20 side of Racing Club (3-1) has positively boosted the morale before their departure to Chile. He said further: "We are not getting carried away despite winning our two matches here but we are happy we have achieved part of our objectives of coming to Argentina but we are grateful for the opportunity to be here for our preparation; we have been struggling to adjust to the cold weather since it is colder in Chile.

"The World Cup is a different ball game because all the 24 teams have the chance to win but we are going to Chile with the objective of defending the trophy and we are looking forward to a good tournament."

Meanwhile, a squad of 21 players and 10 officials including NFF Assistant Director (Technical), Siji Lagunju will on Tuesday evening head to Santiago for the defense of the FIFA U-17 World Cup won for a record fourth time by Nigeria two years ago in the UAE. The Golden Eaglets have been drawn against USA, Croatia and hosts, Chile in Group A.

@ Joseph .Are u saying martins will do the magic when he's been called upon ? the same way u guys clamor for Ike Uche , u mounted the pressure for Keshi to invite him he was invited and nothing concrete to show for it , martins is aging fast and Oliseh doesn't want to use and dump , base on his philosophy , "building a team for the future " forget it! Martins belong to d past . Don't forget Yakubu was also banging goeals for the Chinese lease consistently when he joined them . Why can't u just stick to d young blood philosophy that everybody wanted . In this aspect our voice should speak for us . We want young blood in d super eagles not the rookies .
That's not a very sound argument. You cannot be 100% sure of anybody you're inviting to the National team. Even Iheanacho that I am such a big fan of. You call a player up based on his club performances and hope he performs for his country. That's what Coaches do all over the world.

How is Martins aging fast? Are you a member of his family? Do his games you watch show that he is aging fast? Has his level dropped?

Since you are building for the future, why not just stick to U23 players? No need for Emenike or Mikel or even Carl. And stop comparing apples and oranges, Chinese and MLS are not synonymous.

Also, speak for yourself, don't say EVERYBODY wants something when you have not done the survey. There are many people clamouring for Martins to be invited. Christian Chukwu and Tunde Disu are popular coaches who have being in the news making valid arguments as to why Martins should be considered. Solace Chukwu and Jide Alaka are popular sports journalists that still think Martins' performances in the MLS justify a National call up.

Lastly, Obafemi Martins is not a rookie. Saying he is a rookie must be a big joke.

LET'S TALK ABOUT KING DAVID A LIL...

In the old testament, King David is known as an adulterous, genocidal, homicidal maniac freak who slept with his neighbour's wife, impregnated her, and had his neighbour gruesomely murdered in order to steal his wife! But what was King Davids punishment for such despicable act?

God ordered that the baby that was begotten from the adulterous affair be gruesomely murdered and king David's wives were cursed by God to commit adultery.

But the irony is that the evil King David was left alone, and had his sins forgiven just like that and God even made King David a man after his heart!!! Sounds legit and logical to Christians even though one of Gods commandment was "thou shall not kill and commit adultery"

As if that's not enough, the most annoying and despicable act is the massacre of about 70, 000 creatures - among them innocent babies - were being killed for the crime of David ''conducting a census!'' And the murders were only stopped when God commanded King David to make a ''animal sacrifice'' to appease him!!! Yet, the same Bible said animal sacrifice is the tenet of idols worshipping?!

To now think sane and educated people fetch their inspiration from King David is really worrisome and what's also pitiable is that this portion of the Bible is being read to innocent children daily across the globe.

But Martins has been given the opportunity during Keshi's time he failed , but let's see if Oliseh will give him same opportunity , he has not been consistent for the super eagles .
I'd like to know what you mean by failure. How many times did Keshi invite him? A player invited for a game against Kenya and who played for less than an hour and was no longer called since March 2013. So what would you say about several players that were invited several times in that era that constantly did not perform? Nsofor, Gambo, Akpala, Ujah. How many games did they play? How many goals did they score as forwards?

Before you speak about consistency you need to actually check the dictionary to know what the Word means. You will then list the games he's played and the number of goals he's scored. The guy has played 37 games for Nigeria, he has 18 goals to his credit. That's not consistent enough for you? Seriously? Give me a player in the present squad that has his statistics. Nobody comes close! Dude is so prolific that he is the 4th highest goal scorer in the history of the Nigerian National team. Yes, the Super Eagles since it was formed in 1945. Only Yekini, Odegbami and Yakubu are above him. Do you have any idea how many great strikers Nigeria has produced over the years? So how is Obafemi Martins not consistent, Sir? What more can you ask for from a striker?

Gosh...what some people say in arguments sef.

Joseph , most of these players u mentioned are fast aging and if they refuse to leave football , football will leave them ....also u shouldn't have mentioned the 2 USA players cos they re playing in their local league . Everyone of us knows that the MLS is a place for the " about to be retired " . Let me give u one reason why players go to the MLS . Americans want their league to develop fast and gain popularity becos of the big names that is coming to d MLS so that the up coming players can garner experience from them , they re getting to that height now cos the rate of development is so high same thing with popularity , in every news now u read or hear something about them .the MLS , the Chinese league and Japanese league fall in the same category .... But the japan league Payless money to the retiree .
You are shifting the argument. That was not the bone of contention. The bone of contention is why a player that is playing well is not invited to the national team eve when he has made himself available. He mentioned Drogba, and I mention Pirlo. It'd be cool to know that Drogba is no longer invited because he quit the Ivorian team, not because he is playing in MLS.

The point is, if a player is playing well and has something to give, invite him. What does age have to do with it? Is the Super Eagles an U23 team?

U call MLS competitive. U say retired and semi retired players? For ur info all d players I mentioned are still playing in Europe. The Osaze u are talking abt was even one of our best performers at d last WC jst barely over a yr ago. So if nt for injuries he still stands a better chance than Martins. Ameobi is currently in d books of Crystal Palace, John Utaka plays in French League2, Taye Taiwo plays in d Ukrainian top división, Ayila is some where in Eastern Europe I dnt know d where abt of Odiah since after he left CSKA.

The MLS is not even as competitive as d lower leagues in say France or Russia nt to talk of lower leagues in England, Spain and Germany . Martins in his current form cannot compete with young platers like: Isaac Success and Imoh Ezekiel even though they are less experienced. Where experience counts more is in goal keeping and defence.U think if Iheanacho was a defender he would b getting all d attention he is getting at ManCity? Forward positions are for fast adventurous players.

Drogber that won d MLS player of the minth, is he still featuring for d national team? When d likes of Thiery Henry, Robert Pirez & Nicholas Anielka went to d MLS they waved good bye to d national team. Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrad are currently playing in d MLS but are they still with d 3Lions?

Immediately u leave Europe and go to d MLS jst know u are now a pensioneer.

To me Emenike should even be released nt to talk of Martins.

I have always been an advocate of the clamour for fielding of our best players. But I also believe in fielding of players based on current form and nt past glory. With the likes of Mikel, Echiejile, Ambrose, V Moses, Onazi, Musa,Emenike, Omeruo and Obaobona still in dat team there is a lot of experience already. We jst need back Aluko and Babatunde in dat midfield and with d inclusion if some U20/U23 players and Ighalo that team is good to go. So forget Martins he is now a pensioneer.

cc: Bascovanveli
You shoot yourself in the foot. Let me list out players in MLS still playing for their national teams:

- Andrea Pirlo (Italy)
- Kaka (Brazil) He is still being called up.
- Giovani dos Santos (Mexico)
- Clint Dempsey (USA)
- Brad Evans (USA)
- Sebastian Giovinco (Italy)
- Kevin Doyle (Ireland)
- Harrison Afful (Ghana)
- Fabian Castillo (Columbia)
- Laurent Ciman (Belgium)

You see the box you put yourself into when you generalize?

I don't get where you get the theory that as soon as you start playing in the MLS, you should no longer be called up into the National team regardless of your performances. There are many players playing in Spain, England and Italy that are not called up into their National teams, should we say that's because these leagues are not competitive?

And please, where did you get your FACT that the MLS is not as competitive as the lower leagues in England? While this is not true, I will still like to see your source. MLS is not competitive yet its players beat Bayern Munich last year. Top MLS teams will compete favourably with teams like Swansea, West Brom, and Watford. Do you even watch preseason matches between teams from the two leagues?

REALLYhuh You seriously compare retired and semi-retired players like Shola, Utaka, Taye, Chidi and Ayila with someone playing top flight football? I will also like to see Sone Aluko and Michael Babatunde back in dat midfield as Rabiu and Obiorah are nt measuring up.And I think its high time d coach lets go of Emenike. We have waited enough for him to regain form. Oliseh should give dat spot to any of Aaron Samuel, Isaac Success or Imoh Ezekiel.

1. Captaincy
2. If Oliseh decides nt to invite Victor Moses
3. Quota system. grin

Simon Moses is a better version of Ahmed Musa. Simon has speed, dribbling skills, good positional Sense, excellent first touches, good eye for goal and very importantly also d stamina to keep running at defenders for 90! shocked

Sunday Oliseh gets a boost as Nigeria impress in rout over Cameroon

Sunday Oliseh and his Super Eagles responded to their 2-0 defeat by Congo in the best possible way, hammering arch rivals Cameroon 3-0 on Sunday.

This was not just about the scoreline but the smoothness of the performance, the control and the tempo. With slightly better finishing, this could have been even uglier for the Indomitable Lions.

Here are a few observations from the game ...

-Oliseh gets timing right

For the first time since taking over, Oliseh had the luxury of a week to train with his players. Prior to the away game in Tanzania, he had two days. Before the DRC game, he had three -- two of which were compromised by the distraction of his confrontation with former captain Vincent Enyeama.

With a few more days of focused training, the result was clear to see. Oliseh is changing the way the team play; making them quicker and exploiting the wide areas with the pace and skill of Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon.

Against the DRC, the passing and combinations improved, albeit at a lower tempo. But it was still a shade better than the first two games. The team may have lost but they controlled the game and limited the opposition to four shots at Carl Ikeme's goal.

Unfortunately, two of those went in, helped by errors from a makeshift back four cobbled together in near desperation. Time and patience is what's needed as Oliseh gets to know his side.

-Need for speed

For the last couple of years, one of the big deficiencies in the Super Eagles' play has been their speed on the break. Picks and interceptions invariably petered away to another spell of laboured build ups. Results were ground out, but the play was dire.

Simon's goal, however, was a perfect example of how to take advantage of an opponent caught overloading in the wrong area -- it took just over six seconds for Simon to score for Nigeria following a Cameroon corner.

-Variety

That also brings up something else of interest. All three goals illustrated the variety of Oliseh's philosophy.

The first, Efe Ambrose's opener, was the result of a well-executed set piece. The second came from Simon following that rapid-fire breakaway and the third courtesy of Odion Ighalo after a spell of possession, complete with diagonal movement and sharp, cross field passing. Cameroon had no idea where the ball was until they were picking it out of their net.

-Mikel, Balogun and Emenike impress

In the two games of this tour, John Obi Mikel has proved a class act. He sparkled in the first game, then dominated Stephane Mbia so much the Cameroon captain ended up getting sent off in frustration. When he is good, he is imperious and totally invaluable for Nigeria. His passing, economy of movement, ball shielding and vision is second to none. If only he could shoot.

Elsewhere, Leon Balogun made errors when forced from right-back into central defence against DRC but one game later, the regulars might have to watch their backs. Tackles, clean and timed to perfection, aerial dominance, excellent reading of the game, interceptions, bringing the ball out of defence -- he did it all.

Emmanuel Emenike took flak for his performance but to his credit, he bullied the Cameroon defence with his pace and power, softening them up for Ighalo's arrival late on.

-The future

Oliseh has a talented crop of youngsters at his disposal, with the likes of Alex Iwobi, Simon and Shehu Abdullahi all seen as stars of the future.

This is a team being rebuilt from the ground up. It will be a long process and might involve some setbacks like against DRC, but Oliseh is in it for the long haul. Once again, patience is required.

What I was thinking while Simon was playing well yesterday. Musa in my own opinion is not as good as Victor. But for a captain to be a captain, he has to play very regularly for his team. It's a lacuna. I can only hope that Musa would use that as an impetus to pleasantly surprise us with his very consistent performances.

https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/10/Samm_1_September_4.jpg

NFF president Amaju Pinnick has praised Super Eagles Sunday Oliseh after the team bounced back to dump bitter rivals Cameroon 3-0 in a friendly in Belgium.

Oliseh and the team came under fire back in Nigeria after they lost their first friendly in Belgium to DR Congo.

The coach also would not have endeared himself to Nigerians after his major falling out with Vincent Enyeama.

Nigeria dump bitter rivals

But on Sunday night, they raised their game to soar above the Indomitable Lions in fine style.

"I must say that I am very impressed with the performance of the Eagles. It was a good game,” Pinnick told AfricanFootball.com

"I am sure Nigerians were impressed with what they saw. But we have not got there, there are still some areas that we need to touch but we should all keep supporting the team because the coach seems to have a clear direction of where he is going to.

"He is still building a team. And he knows who to add to the team because we do not have a say on who he invites to the team."

Pinnick said Efe Ambrose’s opening goal – a header off a Mikel free kick – was straight from the training ground.

“All the goals no one was a fluke. Fortunately all the training sessions that I watched, like the first goal Efe Ambrose got, I saw them do that over and over again," he said.

Oliseh will now switch attention to the CHAN qualifier against Burkina Faso on Sunday in Port Harcourt, where the home-based Eagles have been training since last week.

Golden Eaglets clash with Racing Club

Nigeria’s U-17 team, Golden Eaglets would play their second and last warm up match before heading to Santiago for the 16th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup against the U-20 side of Argentine top
side, Racing Club de Avellaneda on Monday at the club’s central training pitch at Tita Mattiussi located in Greater Buenos Aires.

The match which organizers said would kick off at 10am Argentine time (exactly 1:00pm Nigerian time), is another opportunity for the coach Emmanuel Amuneke-led Eaglets to test their readiness to defend the trophy won by Nigeria for a record fourth time two years ago in the UAE. The Golden Eaglets last Wednesday beat their Argentinean counterparts 2-1 at the AFA Training Centre.

Meanwhile, Amuneke has yet reiterated that the best players have been picked to represent Nigeria at FIFA U-17 World Cup which kicks off this weekend with the Golden Eaglets playing their first match against the USA on October 17 at Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago.

“We started this journey in 2014 and I have seen a lot of players come and go; both the good and not so good but many of them are not with us today,” Amuneke told thenff.com. “Of course, we would have loved to see some of them (in Chile) particularly those that started the struggle with us and secured the
ticket that qualified us for Niger; and some others who were with us in Niger but unfortunately, they are not here.

“The list has been long in coming from 60 to 40 to 35 to 25 and eventually we have only 21 going to the World Cup with us. Frankly, we have done a good job because we have been fair to everyone in the process but of course, we cannot please everybody,” he noted.

Man City: How Kelechi Iheanacho is being prepared for greatness by Gael Clichy

https://i4.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/incoming/article10043016.ece/ALTERNATES/s615b/JS71960704.jpg

When your middle name is ‘Promise’ it could be argued that you are destined to go far.

But for Kelechi Iheanacho it is all about hard work - and making his sceptical dad proud.

The Manchester City youngster burst onto the scene as part of Nigeria’s Under-17 World Cup finalists in 2013 - and came to even wider notice when his first senior goal for the Blues earned a last-gasp win at Crystal Palace last month.

The 19-year-old is the brightest gem to have been polished by the club’s youth development system - but Iheanacho isn’t content to stop there.

He wants to be a ‘great’ and, with a combination of explosive skill and driven determination - plus a little help from the likes of chief cheerleader Gael Clichy - it is hard to argue against him doing so.

“It’s a dream come true for to play at this level,” he said. “There is enough confidence given to me from the manager and team.

“I’m hoping to be part of the great things that happen to this team. I hope to be one of the great players - it’s my dream to be a great player in this team.”

The win a Palace is a an early highlight following his promotion to the first-team squad this season.

“It was a great moment scoring at an away game and we needed a win,” he added in an interview with the club’s website.

“You can see from the celebration I was very happy.”

Despite the fact that he cuts a self-assured figure, Iheanacho values a star-studded cast of supporters, especially Clichy.

“They give me confidence, many of them - Yaya, Sergio, Silva, Samir, Gael Clichy as well - he encourages me every time to keep going, keep going, keep chasing the defenders,” he said.

“I wasn’t happy when he was injured so I’m hoping for him to recover quick to give me more confidence.

“I really love them and I’m happy to work with them.”

Iheanacho has already overcome much to achieve what he has done so far - something he puts down stubborness.

“It’s really hard over there in my country, it’s really hard in Africa,” he said.

“I started playing football when I was a kid. I love football but things that aren’t footballs, I played with as well. Even if I was walking in the road, I’d play with stones because I love football.

“My parents didn’t want be to play football, they wanted me to go to school and study my books but I was so stubborn.

“I represented my state and then Nigeria Under-15 and under-18s, then we represented Nigeria at the Under-17 World Cup. I couldn’t believe that. The head coach came he gave me confidence to play so I started playing and playing well.

“That’s how I started and my father is proud of me now. Everywhere he goes they just point at him and say look at Kelechi’s father.”

Did anybody see how Oliseh gave Mikel a role that made him come alive?

I sincerely hope we'll give props to Oliseh. Aside the scoreline, there is tactical discipline in this team. He's up to something.

A RANDOM CONVERSATION WITH COLE...

Joe: So you mean people will go to hell because they've exercised their free will to reject God?

Cole: Yeah. Right

Joe: Is it possible that God can influence someone's decision to make them choose him?

Cole: No way. Everybody has been given the freedom to choose between God and Satan. God can only call out to you but he won't force you to choose him. God never interferes with anyone's free will.

Joe: OK. Let's leave that. I'm happy for you. You've now gotten that grant from the University.

Cole: Yeah. Thanks. God did it. God favoured me. The university board had rejected my proposal for 3 years now but this time around, God touched the vice-chancellor's heart and he didn't have a choice but to approve the grant.

Joe: So the VC didn't want to approve your grant till God touched his heart?

Cole: Yes. Proverbs 21:1 says the king's heart is in God's hands & God can direct it as he wishes

Joe: So God can direct anybody's heart to favour you but God can't direct anybody's heart to choose him & reject the devil? Why doesn't the same free will extend to favouring God's children? Why does God allow people to choose hell if they wish but direct them to help his children even when they don't wish to?

Cole: Well.......

THINK ABOUT THIS

Preacher: "Give God the type of offering that will surprise him".

My Question: How is a spiritual being like a God supposed to get surprised by money that has value only to man?

Don't believers reason these things out? Why give yourself out to be conned by self-serving thieves?
