I agree with your notion that we should go with the best player for the RB position. But one apparent flaw in that logic is that it operates in isolation, It doesn't factor in the team as a whole.

Okay let's run a simple simulation. Let's assume shehu is rated 7/10 as a RB and Aina is rated 8/10 as a right back and 7/10 as a left back. Echiejile on the other hand is rated 5/10 as a LB. We can decide to play Aina as the RB cos he's obviously better, this then leaves us with Echiejile as the undisputed LB.

A technical team will always exploit this lacuna by playing a fast and skillful right winger. At this point, our desperation for a world class RB would seem foolish because for all his good works at the right flank, he'd always be sabotaged by our weak link(LB).

On the other hand if we decide to play shehu and Aina as wing backs both with a 7/10 rating, they'd be to an extent balance in the team.

Of course these are all assumptions. The only reason we should allow Aina slug it out with shehu for the RB position is if we find a competent replacement for uwa. Only then can we welcome the competition of having Aina and shehu slug it out as right backs.

But I don't think Rohr is planning on that. From his last list, uwa was the only natural LB which means Rohr is looking at converting either Aina or Ebuehi to LB.
top notch analysis

their FIFA rankings as at that time was what led to the draw, it was not CAF....maybe if either of Nigeria or Cameroon had been where they were supposed to be on the FIFA ranking then, it wouldn't have panned out like that
abegi caf no get sense

we are talking about African representatives here with their football pedigree to represent Africa

look at group A and look at our group and tell if caf has sense

forget ranking here no matter how england and Italy are low in ranking uefa will never place England Italy and Germany in the same qualifying group

Who put who in the group, was it not a draw that was done? Infact why is this even an issue for discussion?

Maybe CAF shouldn't organise qualifiers again, they should just pick 5 known west Africans names and that's all.
a draw that picked three of Africa's five representative in one group is not a draw to me

the caf board is useless

You wanted CAF to fix the seeding to favor just west Africans?

Why did Dr Congo dispatch Tunisia? (The same Tunisia once stopped Nigeria from smelling the world cup in our own capital city.
are west Africans not the best? apart from say Egypt

you are saying Dr Congo but put Ghana in that Tunisia's group and they gonna qualify

Iheanacho scored in that role vs Zambia. We controlled that match. As for Aina, I wouldn't start someone who hasn't played for Nigeria in a crucial qualifier. And LB is not his best position.
if you are good then you are good weda you have played before or not...you want to start that 02 elderson against Zambia...the same elderson way Cameroon wan kill if nor for balogun...LB might not be his best position but I am very certain he is better than elderson in that position.. has ezenwa played for Nigeria before he delivered against Cameroon? grin

Absolutely Nigeria isn't CIV, no arguments.

CIV played in the last two editions of the AFCON, we didn't even qualify, remember that. CIV boasts of individual fantastic players playing in better clubs (not all) than most of our boys, Bailly, Aurier, Seri, Kessie.

No complacency kapisch.
we won't lose @ home especially a world cup qualifier match

the players know what is at stake

But what if Nigeria loses in Algeria, and Zambia beat Cameroon in Lusaka? Guess what, Zambia would then clinch the ticket.

So, the SE need to go out for the win on October 7.
