joshuaakindele7:
The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the progress of work on the construction of the second Niger Bridge.

He said the President had done well for the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones.
Obiano stated this during an inspection visit of the project in Onitsha, Anambra State.

He expressed satisfaction with the standard and pace of work on the project.
The governor said he was confident that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari would deliver on the job as scheduled.

He noted that the bridge, when completed, would not only boost the economic activities of the South-East and South-South but that of the country at large.

Obiano said, “I have no choice but to praise President Muhammadu Buhari for his determination in the implementation of other Federal Government’s projects in the state and other states in the geopolitical zone.”

Speaking, the Project Director of Julius Berger Construction Company, Fredrick Wieser, said the construction would be in three phases, adding that the Federal Government had made advance payment of N30bn as mobilisation fee.

According to him, the bridge will be 1.6 km long, while the access road from the Asaba axis will be 3.3 km and 7km from Anambra respectively.
Wieser said, “Right now, we are doing the foundation work in the river which will be 50 metres deep. The pilling work in the river will be 15 metres above the water level to allow free flow of ships. With the determination of the present administration, the project will be delivered on or before February 28, 2022.”

PoliticsRe: APC Won't Judge Amaechi Based On Audio Leak Criticising Buhari - Tony Momoh by Jowanson: 2:33pm On Jan 10, 2019
hisexcellency34:
By Temidayo Akinsuyi

Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information on Thursday said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has no reason to be unhappy with Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation despite a leaked audio tape that had been trending in the media where the Minister was allegedly insulting President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Momoh one of the national leaders of the APC said the intention of those behind the leaked audio was to undermine the presidential campaign of the APC.
While advising those releasing the tapes to find better things doing, he said APC will not judge Amaechi based on the audio leak.
“There are three ways people express themselves; in their thoughts, words and in their deeds. Many people say thoughts are free. That is a lie because your own thoughts are recorded in creation and you bear responsibility for them. But unfortunately, human beings cannot read the thoughts of people”.
“So, if you know what people think of you, they may even be wishing you dead while they are laughing. So, people bear responsibility for whatever they do. On earth, it is what we see you do and we monitor that we use in binding you”.
“No matter what they say, Amaechi has been damn effective and we have no reason to be unhappy with him. He is a fighter. So, if people just want to use thinking aloud which he is entitled to, to undo him, then they are using wrong means because it cannot affect Amaechi’s output”.
“Let people look for more credible ways of undermining the APC campaign. The campaign has taken off and as you can see, it is a movement that is looking at the issue of what APC has done in the last three years in attending to the human condition in Nigeria which PDP didn’t do for 16 years” he said.
https://www.independent.ng/we-wont-judge-amaechi-based-on-audio-leak-tony-momoh/
It therefore means that what he said were facts and correct..not doctored as claimed by APC ...if this is coming from an APC chieftain.

We therefore need to get this country working again..
PoliticsRe: 2019: Atiku Friends Endorsed Him Not We, Ohanaeze Says by Jowanson: 2:01pm On Jan 10, 2019
Ebullience:
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has denied endorsing Alhaji Atiku Abubarka, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Mr Chuks Ibegbu disclosed this on Thursday in Enugu at a media briefing to mark the second anniversary of the current executive of the organisation.

Ibegbu said that the clarification became necessary following misconceptions on the event of Nov. 14, 2018 where some Igbo leaders endorsed the candidacy of Atiku Abubakar for presidency.

It would be recalled that some Igbo leaders had, during a meeting in Enugu, attended by Atiku and the national leaders of the PDP including the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, endorsed Atiku.

Ibegbu, however, clarified that the said endorsement was done by the friends of Atiku, adding that the organisation had not endorsed any particular candidate.

The deputy national publicity secretary said that the organisation needed to be circumspect, “as our children are in all the political parties.’

“It is erroneous to say that we endorsed Atiku. Ohanaeze Ndigbo did not endorse anybody. That meeting at Nike Lake Resort was organised by friends of Atiku.

“However, due to our peculiar circumstance in the country, we will identify with candidates that will restructure Nigeria if voted into power,” he said.

He said that the organisation would soon meet to take a holistic position on the 2019 general elections.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo has been canvassing for our people to identify with candidates that will restructure Nigeria.

“We still stand on that and in the next few days we shall meet to take a holistic position on the elections,” he said.

Ibegbu noted that within the two years in office of the Chief John Nwodo led Ohanaeze Ndigbo, “we have given our modest contribution by re-jigging Igbo leadership and issues concerning our people”.

He said that the current leadership of the organisation had built synergy with its affiliate groups with a view to achieving unity in the area.

He said that the dexterity and leadership acumen of Nwodo had positively affected the relationship between the organisation and other ethnic socio-cultural associations in the country.

“This has earned the president general an award as ‘Bridge Builder of the Nation’, which will be presented to him on Jan. 17 by Daily Independent Newspapers,” Ibegbu said.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Blasts PDP, Atiku by Jowanson: 6:54am On Jan 09, 2019
mrakeli62:
ALL Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was yesterday unsparing on the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the February 16 presidential election Atiku Abubakar.

The PDP, according to the former Lagos State governor, is seeking power to return the country to the dark days when the economy crumbled and Nigerians groaned under its reign between 1999 and 2015.

To him, it amounts to standing logic on its head to compare the PDP standard bearer to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the APC.

Tinubu issued a statement titled: “We accept President Buhari’s assignment” on his appointment to lead President Buhari’s re-election campaign as the Co-Chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. He said the two candidates – Buhari and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar – are miles apart when it comes to vision, mission and character.

His words: “The character of the two candidates cannot be more distinct. President Buhari is a straight and honest man. Leave a naira on the table with Buhari in the room. You will find the naira on the table when you return.

“When Buhari says ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ you know where he stands. He means what he says, no more, no less. With Atiku, things are more nuanced. When Atiku speaks, he may mean ‘yes,’ ‘no,’ ‘maybe,’ ‘I don’t know,’ ‘come back tomorrow,’ ‘all the above,’ or ‘none of the above.’

“His compass has four needles pointing in different directions at the same time. He knows of no direction to take. President Buhari’s word is his bond. When Atiku speaks, it is to give you the slip.

“We cannot afford a President whose ways and mind is a maze of contradicting urges and colliding desires. This shows he has no vision for the nation and no guiding principles, except the naked pursuit of power for the naked use of that power.”

Tinubu spoke of Atiku’s role in the Obasanjo administration. He said: “Atiku had his chance to shine as VP when he controlled the privatisation programme of the Obasanjo government. He abused this assignment. He helped squander billions of dollars on power generation that did nothing but generated darkness.

“That government had so much money at its disposal and that is exactly what it did. It disposed of the money, yet, failed to treat the poor or build for the future.

“Atiku laid waste to the national treasury for eight long years. That is enough for one lifetime. We should not reward him by giving him another eight years because the more he feeds, the stronger his hunger grows.

“His is a thirst that can’t be quenched and a hand that cannot be restrained from taking whatever is on the table.

“As the PDP candidate, he is now the leader of an avaricious horde that seeks to reattach its mandible once again to the public wealth and forever lay siege to our nation’s future. Nigerians would do well not to pay them any attention.”

The APC stalwart also made scathing remarks on the PDP.

Drawing a comparison between the ruling and the main opposition parties, Tinubu said: “This election concerns more than two competing personalities and political parties. It is a contest between two different visions for the country and the futures these visions portend.

“The APC seeks a better Nigeria by reforming our institutions of governance that these institutions may better implement policies engendering dynamic economic development.

“We seek not only growth but also a fair and just allocation to all segments of the society of the harvest of our national endeavours. Let no Nigerian be forever trapped in poverty and despair. Let all Nigerians be given the genuine opportunity to realise their full potential and contribute to this nation and their own lives as much as their talents and willpower permits of them.

“We build a Nigeria where government leads the nation but does not rule over the people.”

“On the other hand, the PDP pushes toward a future that takes the nation back to the malpractices of the past. Blind to the possibilities of a better day and afraid of the equality that true reform will bring, the PDP remains vested in the ways of corrupt governance and arrogant disregard for the public. For them, the unjust past is not just the object of their dreams; it is their sole destination.

“Thus, this election is about two different policy visions and two different models of leadership. This election is about substantive issues and about character.

“The APC will continue to build a political economy that will well serve Nigeria long after oil revenues are no longer sufficient to sustain the nation and its ever-growing population.

“We are diversifying the economy, giving basic food, health and educational assistance to the most-needy among us, improving agricultural productivity so that our farmers grow more to feed for increasing urban populations and also earn more to sustain their families, and about building needed infrastructure, including electricity and water, because we realise a national economy cannot grow beyond the capacity of the infrastructure that serves that economy.

“Meanwhile, the PDP clan wants to return to the days where they rule the nation like overlords. They want to own every industry and control everything that has anything to do with the creation of wealth.

“They seek to reverse the democratic maxim that government is the servant of the people. The PDP wants a situation where those in government are the masters and the people bow their heads to the interests of the mighty and the rich.

“We have seen this before. Those who really care about Nigeria care not to see such malign governance again.”

Tinubu assured the President that members of the Campaign Council would work hard to stop those who will halt the nation’s progress from coming back to power.

He said the council would not let the President down “because doing so would also let down the nation”.

Tinubu said: “The 2019 APC Presidential Campaign Council has been inaugurated by President Buhari. In his speech at the inaugural meeting, he did more than offer us guidance on the campaign. In his straightforward manner, he outlined the achievements of his administration, reminding the nation of the pillars of progressive governance and of our party.

“I think I can speak for all members of the Campaign Council that we accept the assignments given by the President with devotion and a firm commitment to perform to our utmost the individual and collective tasks given.

“It is a great honour and responsibility he has given us. We dare not let him down because doing so would also let down the nation.

“Consequently, the members of the APC presidential campaign council accept our respective assignments as both high honor and heavy responsibility.

“We will work diligently to re-elect President Buhari. We do this not for personal accolades. We do this not merely to re-elect a party member. We do this because it is the best thing for Nigeria. The campaign has begun!”

Bagehot:
Sorry man, Atiku is losing this election. I'm indifferent to what party wins at the federal, but the handwriting is on the wall.

1. Let's start with considering the geopolitical zones: Asides SE, SS, and bits of NC, where is Atiku's stronghold? Is Atiku even formidable enough to sweep Adamawa? SW courtesy of Jagaban is for APC - there is no motivated PDP structure to do that work for Atiku - not in Oyo state, not in Ekiti (Fayose made too many enemies for the party), not in Osun (adeleke is only concerned about dancing, and beating his waec forgery case), not Ogun (where PDP has 2 candidates) - maybe Ondo (dont know much about the dynamics there). NE and NW - solid Buhari bases.

2. Who are these key figures behind Atiku? Saraki who is fighting the most tasking battle for his own survival in Kwara? Dino who is already losing his voice? Tambuwal who could not move with Wamakko to PDP? Wike, Ekweremadu, and Kwankwaso who have been awfully quiet at this critical time in election season? Fayose who is fighting tough battles of his own? Obasanjo who would be demystified after march, 2019? Danjuma who would be defanged pretty soon (a lot of oil blocks are due for renewal)? SE governors who are only paying lip service to the Atiku campaign? SS governors who are on the lowkey half in bed with APC?

3. How about campaign financing? Atiku's famed wealth would not save him - for his dirty money to pass through the banking system without hiccups in this age of BVN, and eagle-eyed NFIU would be extremely difficult. For those 'big-wigs' who would want to come through for him, there would be a lot of explaining to do on the bags of dollars they have buried on their farms, and hidden in their guest toilets. Atiku's campaign is VERY cash-strapped in Lagos here, I have only seen two bill-boards for his campaign, yet everywhere I'm seeing PMB / PYO. I also hear that in the SE, there is almost no visibility for his campaign (I cant confirm this for myself).

4. North-South dynamics - They wont tell you this, but a lot of southern politicans (including your SE governors) do not want the North to remain in power for much longer than necessary. Atiku as president means an additional 8 years of northern rule, which in turn implies that ambitious heavy-weights such as Tambuwal, Wike, Fashola, Osinbajo etc would have to wait longer - ain't nobody got time for that son.

5. Jagaban, love him or hate him - he is probably the most influential politician in Nigeria after the President himself, hence I wasn't surprised that he was named co-chairman of PMB's campaign. Whatever the outcomes of this election, everybody - politician or banker needs to learn from Tinubu: whatever position you are in, aggressively groom smart people around you to do big things. The number 1 reason Tinubu is this influential is because he has groomed and made way too many people in SW politics, that to pull him down would mean going after dozens of extremely influential people themselves - Osinbanjo, Fashola, Amosun, Fowler, Banire, Agbaje (yep he started off under Tinubu), Obanikoro, Bamidele, Aregbesola, Gbajabiamila, Fayemi, Nwabueze, Lai Mohammed, Banire - these are just a few I could remember that are visible at the national level. Secondly, avoid focusing on only the short-term, and always play the long game (10+ years): Tinubu's end-game is not 2019 (its already a given) - its 2023. In Nigerian politics, ignore Asiwaju at your own peril.
Your analysis is flawed in so many ways... It will be in your face when Atiku wins.. Mark my words
