NIGER DELTA TRANSPARENCY INITIATIVE PRESS STATEMENT Monday, 3rd March 2025 N8.3BN FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF GOVERNMENT HOUSE STAFF QUARTERS IS WASTAGE OF SCARCE RESOURCES We find it worrisome that the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara used over N8bn to reconstruct residential quarters for government house staff. This is a ridiculous contract inflation, which is nothing but corruption at its peak. This administration has a penchant for inflation of contracts for the purpose of kickbacks, and it is vexatious because other governors of South-South and South-East states with far less revenue are performing better with the little resources at their disposal. Recall that after the Rivers State House of Assembly complex was demolished by Fubara in a bid to stop his impeachment, the reconstruction of the building was initially valued at N11.1bn, but it was awarded to the governor's political ally at the cost of N28.5bn. The reconstruction of Igwuruta Roundabout followed the same pattern of astronomical contract inflation. The Bill of Quantity for the repair of Igwuruta Roundabout was valued at N3.352bn, but they awarded the same contract for N23bn. Just a few weeks ago, the media space was awash with leaked documents wherein Fubara earmarked N3.5bn for the renovation of the official residence of the governor in 2025 despite spending N3.2bn for the same project in 2024. Furthermore, N2.6bn was budgeted for the renovation of the governor's office building. The office of the First Lady, government house banquet hall, and government house auditorium got N1.5bn, N1.7bn, and N1.2bn respectively. The presidential lodge that is currently being occupied by Fubara's Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie will be rehabilitated with the sum of N1.8bn. While we will not want to dwell on the illegality of these budgetary allocations because the Supreme Court has rightly done justice to it already, we cannot fail to raise alarm over the broad daylight fleecing of the scarce resources of Rivers people. Wasting almost N80bn on frivolous projects and kickbacks is appalling to say the least. This amount of money can build standard primary health centres in the 23 local government area headquarters in Rivers State. Signed, Comr. richmond500:What kind of foolish talk is this ? Who did the first phase of the trans kalabari road ? Dualised Emuoha-Kalabari road ? Abonema Ring Road and others ? All these were done by Wike. From the inaccuracy of your comment I am almost sure you aren't from Rivers State.

Zionmdde:That story is a lie |
It seems Fubara's mistake of disregarding court orders is catching up with him. He should find a way to make peace with Wike. |
Tinubu would win Rivers State with a wide margin. |

FAILURE OF APC LED FG FUELING INSECURITY, NOT UNEMPLOYMENT-GOV WIKE. The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says it is disingenuous for the minister of transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, to attribute insecurity in the State to unemployment. "Is unemployment fuelling insecurity in Kaduna, Plateau , Borno, Yobe, Ondo, Ebony, Imo, Niger States governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC)?" He said if the minister, who is the immediate past governor of the state has any modicum of sincerity, he will attest to the fact that security is the sole responsibility of the federal government. "Is he (Amaechi) trying to indict his boss, President Muhammad Buhari, who is the Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and who is constitutionally saddle with the responsibility to provide security for Nigerians. "It is a well known fact that Amaechi is the one who appoints every Commissioner of Police that has been posted to Rivers State since 2015. So, if there is any security failure, he is to blame." Governor Wike described the minister misguided utterance on the current imposition of curfew in the State, following the recent attacks on police formations, as rather unfortunate. " Perhaps, the minister is happy that members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are killing innocent policemen , who were protecting lives and property. Is Amaechi happy that the weapons of these slain security personnel were carted away by the hoodlums? Amaechi, from all indication has lost focus and is now frustrated." The governor, declared that his administration has offered scholarship to over 500 Rivers State students to study medicine and other related courses at the PAMO University. Reacting to allegation by the minister that he is acquiring property in the State, the governor said it better to acquire property in Nigeria than to do so in Ghana. Governor Wike said Amaechi jubilation over the defection of his former Commissioner of Urban and Rural Planning, REASON ONYA, who was indicted by a judicial Commission of inquiry, is a pointer that he is politically irrelevant in Rivers State. The governor further urged the minister to return to Abuja and resolve the financial malfeasance rocking federal agencies under his watch, and desist from destroying the homes of others. OUTRAGE AS PRESIDENTIAL DELEGATION ABANDON MEETING WITH TRADITIONAL RULERS AND GOVERNORS OF THE SOUTH SOUTH STATES There was palpable anger at the banquet hall of the Rivers State Government House as a meeting called at the instance of the Presidency with the Governors, Traditional rulers, opinion leaders and youths of the South South was botched by the absence of the Presidential team. Representatives of traditional rulers, leaders from the six south south states and all the Governors in the region who arrived Porth Harcourt on Monday the 16th for the meeting which was originally scheduled to commence by 11am on Tuesday became infuriated when they were told by 3pm that the delegation from the Presidency which was to be led by the the Chief of Staff to the President would no longer be avialable. The waiting South South delegation were informed that the delegation from the Presidency which was to also include the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Security and eight Federal Ministers requested for the meeting to be rescheduled. Although Governors of the South South led by the Governor of Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa apologised to the people for the bothched meeting and keeping them in Port Harcourt for two days, the Traditional rulers, youths and women maintained that the cancellation was an insult on the people of the region which would not be taken lightly. They called for an unreserved public apology to be rendered to the leaders and people of the region as a precondition for any consideration for a reconvening of a meeting with the people of the South South.

She should remove her dirty mouth from Rivers State and stop the foolish talk of ending Rivers. We like our Rivers like this. She should tell her mad IPOB "brothers" to leave the state |
Permit me to explain the issue of the N78 billion refund and Governor Wike's appreciation letter in simple terms. A person is owing a class of 36 people some money for work previously done for him, two years ago (2018) he refunded 31 of them leaving 5 outstanding. He finally starts the process of refund to the last 5 people and 1 person out of the group says "THANK YOU" to the man initiating the refund. This is the refund discussion in simple terms. However, Mr Femi Adesina chose to be unnecessarily mischievous with his recent article which he captioned “Wike vindicates Buharists.” An excerpt from his article; “The Wike we knew was either usually crying wolf where there was none, alleging that the Federal Government wanted to kill him, or claiming that he was not answerable to the central government at Abuja in any way, or even pontificating that the President and his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), had failed the country in diverse ways. If not for the maturity, and the avuncular attitude of President Buhari to all state governors, it would have been easy for one to conclude that he and Wike were enemies. Forsworn ones.” As it is obvious, these are the attempts of a rabble-rouser seeking attention and relevance to escape public oblivion. Governor Wike's exemplary conduct shows that political opposition is not hatred or madness - a gesture that should be emulated by politicians and their supporters, one of whom is Mr Femi Adesina. The public show of appreciation by Gov. Wike is nothing new as he has been consistent in boldly expressing commendation or criticism on several issues when necessary. If Mr Adesina had taken his time to conduct a little research, he would have been aware that the letter of gratitude was indeed sent over three weeks before it was made public. He saw it on the pages of Newspapers like every other Nigerian and decided that a noble gesture by the Governor should be reduced to a caricature of sorts. I understand that it is difficult for Femi Adesina to appreciate the beauty and consistency of the said letter considering him being a sad example of inconsistency. What Femi Adesina the Editor-in-Chief said a few years ago is different from what he is saying today and sadly, with his present ethical direction -or lack of it- we still don't know what he would say tomorrow. It was Mr Adesina who wrote a scathing piece on PMB's present Chief-of-Staff wherein condemning him. He wrote, “Gambari enslaved himself to please his paymasters. Now, 13 years after, the shackles are still tied around his neck, threatening to asphyxiate him. What an eternal lesson for fawning bootlicking grovellers to learn. Old sins indeed have long shadows.” Today, these exact words best describe him as Mr Adesina has turned around and is paying glowing tribute to the same man he tried to roll in the mud yesterday. A reason why it is often said that _” those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.”_ The long shadows of Mr Adesina's past seem to be hot on his heels forcing him to go to extremes even when it entails him trampling on ideals he once professed and insulting Nigerians in the process. On reading his article, many people on his Facebook wall opined that such a man should not be allowed near any leader as he seems to have lost his democratic compass and now speaks in abhorrence of basic democratic principles like freedom of speech and the right to criticism. The responses from people on his page would ordinarily make any person have a rethink but Mr Adesina seems to be living out Reuben Abatti's opinion that there seems to be a higher force around the seat of power that turns good men of yesterday to bad men who "act like they are under a spell". His article was an egregious display of the belief that anyone who doesn’t share his political sentiment was a lesser Nigerian spared only by the mercy and good graces of Mr President. What could possibly have made Mr Adesina who earlier this year, scurrilously call the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) “a political party” for complaining about the killing of a man of the clergy. By this, I have now concluded that the Femi Adesina with honest opinions and a genuine love for democracy we knew is gone, and there is no limit to what the present Femi Adesina with a childish love for public attention can say. On the first read, one would wonder what the aim of his article was as it mostly wandered around banter more fitting for a public bar, but on a closer look, one would notice that the article is about a desperate man grappling for significance. The motive of the puerile drama can be found in the latter part of his article where he committed the last seven paragraphs of his write up to his real intention of unwarranted sycophancy. His article was a grovelling attempt to remind the world -and some people in authority- of the troubles, he has been through as well as his long term fealty to the President. It was actually the cry of a hallelujah boy declaring he would sing hallelujah forever (he actually said that in different words). Such a message shows a man of dwindling relevance that is trying to stir up remembrance as a means of survival. The decent issue of the appreciation was just a casualty used to draw attention to his real message. |
Principles and consistency are values not commonly associated with Nigerian politics. Also uncommon is the willingness to go through inconveniences to hold on to ideals that are not tied to any benefit. It is against the flow of our common approach Governor Wike has been consistent in courageously speaking up when he sees things going wrong even when there is no visible gain in standing on his principles. Governor Wike's recent appreciation letter to President Buhari over the Federal Executive Council's approval for the refund of Rivers state's funds spent on Federal roads came as a surprise to most because we are used to viewing disagreements in Government as personal feuds where parties take issues to the extreme. Although Governor Wike has on several occasions said he would appreciate the Federal Government when things are done right and speak up when they are not right, most didn't believe he would actually practice what he preached. The long absence of good news from the center concerning Rivers State made most of us believe the Governor was stuck in an antagonistic mindset so even with examples we have had in the past this one still came as a surprise. In August 2017 when Mr President survived a health scare and returned from his treatment in London, Governor Wike surprised the Country by going to Abuja to welcome him back. When the Federal Government completed the Port Harcourt International Airport Governor Wike was at the commissioning on the 25th of Oct 2018. He welcomed and very warmly commended President Buhari not only on behalf of the state but he went on to express the gratitude of the people of the South South who would benefit from the Airport. His position is simply about the right thing being done and proper consideration being given to Rivers State. To this end he has been consistent and true. He is an example of an outspoken and courageous leader who shows that opposition is not hatred or madness. In his Wednesday 1st July interview on National Television, when asked the motive behind his appreciation letter to President Buhari he said "If you do good for us we would appreciate you, if you don't we would say so." He explained that even as a politician he has chosen to be a man of his words and his stand has always been clear as he responds to issues based on principles. "I am one man who would tell you where I am what I would do and what I would not do." "People take politics too personal and thats the problem we have in this country. "There are people who are extreme in what they do, i am not an extremist, i believe in principles." He said. His expression of gratitude has once again taken his action beyond having the courage to take hard decisions to having the class, boldness and humility to put Rivers State first and take soft decision that uphold our values of respect and appreciation. The appreciation letter would go down in history as a class act and a lesson in opposition and governance as few could have thought of it or had the courage to publicise it as he did.

OP What's your source ? I smell fake news. |
Let me make it very simple for the OP, the mace snatcher represents an institution which is meant to be an equal/non subservient check/balance to the Presidency. By his bowing down the Senate was committing the aberration of bowing to the Presidency. |
I think the writer of this story has changed. This writer is more sophisticatedthan the first person and focuses less on sex. |
What is hate speech ? |
seanfer:You are a foolish propagandist. The army said it suddenly discovered a militia training camp but from the letter even a block head like you should realise that they were aware of the program and just serving the intentions of the APC. |
KenOne:Oooh mumu boy, this terminal is still in the same state, the one to be commissioned is a new terminal built by GEJ. It was to be commissioned in Dec 2015 but is being now to save face. |
Butterflyleo:They should be paid. These are pensioners that retired after 2014 not all the pensioners in the state. |
Point of correction, the youths were from Port Harcourt LGA and not the 23 LGAs. |
This post is pure propaganda from BMC. This video was done today to clarify this issue. The pictures are from an area of under construction and not the road commisioned by Atiku. |
Pure propaganda. This is a picture of the road, why does it have drainage but the one by the OP dosent ?
|
seanfer:I think this is either the most ignorant or most sickening statement ever made on Nairaland. Ojukaye has two provable murder cases, in one case he committed murder in the plain glare of every one in his LGA. Trying to say he was set up is the height of perversion. May God forgive you. |
This matter us going no where. John Aduga is an APC stalwart and close associate of Gov Yahaya Belli. |
Pls seek to understand before you speak, traditional leadership is not gotten by government appointment. EVILFOREST: |
Buhari shook Ortom but if you listen he actually asked him " how are your cattle rearers". He also called the Kaduna governor bulldozer. |
Fanciful attempt but low on logic and dept. There is nothing to show that they are or were friends, actually they were not friends. Maybe people from same political family but nothing to qualify them as a circle of friends. As it is almost all over the country, It is only logical to expect that people that are now in political leadership started from somewhere and grew to their present position so mentioning their past positions is neither here nor there. |
APC should join to develop the state and stop playing witchcraft politics in Rivers State.
