FAILURE OF APC LED FG FUELING INSECURITY, NOT UNEMPLOYMENT-GOV WIKE.

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says it is disingenuous for the minister of transportation, Chibuike Amaechi,  to attribute insecurity in the State to unemployment.

"Is unemployment fuelling insecurity in Kaduna, Plateau , Borno, Yobe, Ondo, Ebony, Imo, Niger States governed by the All Progressives Congress (APC)?"

He said if the minister, who is the immediate past governor of the state has any modicum of sincerity, he will attest to the fact that security is the sole responsibility of the federal government.

"Is he (Amaechi) trying to indict his boss, President Muhammad Buhari, who is the Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and who is constitutionally saddle with the responsibility to provide security for Nigerians.

"It is a well known fact that Amaechi is the one who appoints every Commissioner of Police that has been posted to Rivers State since 2015. So, if there is any security failure, he is to blame."

Governor Wike described the minister misguided utterance on the current imposition of curfew in the State, following the recent attacks on police formations, as rather unfortunate.

" Perhaps, the minister is happy that members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are killing innocent policemen , who were protecting lives and property. Is Amaechi happy that the weapons of these slain security personnel were carted away by the hoodlums? Amaechi, from all indication has lost focus and is now frustrated."

The governor, declared that his administration has offered scholarship to over 500 Rivers State students to study medicine and other related courses at the PAMO University.

Reacting to allegation by the minister that he is acquiring property in the State, the governor said it better to acquire property in Nigeria than to do so in Ghana.

Governor Wike said Amaechi jubilation over the defection of his former Commissioner of Urban and Rural Planning, REASON ONYA, who was indicted by a judicial Commission of inquiry, is a pointer that he is politically irrelevant in Rivers State.

The governor further urged the minister to return to Abuja and resolve the financial malfeasance rocking federal agencies under his watch, and desist from destroying the homes of others.

Politics / Outrage As Presidential Delegation Abandons South South by Joyfullyme: 9:42pm On Nov 17, 2020
OUTRAGE AS PRESIDENTIAL DELEGATION ABANDON MEETING WITH TRADITIONAL RULERS AND GOVERNORS OF THE SOUTH SOUTH STATES

There was palpable anger at the banquet hall of the Rivers State Government House as a meeting called at the instance of the Presidency with the Governors, Traditional rulers, opinion leaders and youths of the South South was botched by the absence of the Presidential team.

Representatives of traditional rulers, leaders from the six south south states and all the Governors in the region who arrived Porth Harcourt on Monday the 16th for the meeting which was originally scheduled to commence by 11am on Tuesday became infuriated when they were told by 3pm that the delegation from the Presidency which was to be led by the the Chief of Staff to the President would no longer be avialable.

The waiting South South delegation were informed that the delegation from the Presidency which was to also include the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Security and eight Federal Ministers requested for the meeting to be rescheduled.

Although Governors of the South South led by the Governor of Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa apologised to the people for the bothched meeting and keeping them in Port Harcourt for two days, the Traditional rulers, youths and women maintained that the cancellation was an insult on the people of the region which would not be taken lightly.

They called for an unreserved public apology to be rendered to the leaders and people of the region as a precondition for any consideration for a reconvening of a meeting with the people of the South South.

Politics / Femi Adesina: The Case Of A King's Counsel Turned Court Jester by Joyfullyme: 10:16pm On Jul 06, 2020
Permit me to explain the issue of the N78 billion refund and Governor Wike's appreciation letter in simple terms.

A person is owing a class of 36 people some money for work previously done for him, two years ago (2018) he refunded 31 of them leaving 5 outstanding. He finally starts the process of refund to the last 5 people and 1 person out of the group says "THANK YOU" to the man initiating the refund. This is the refund discussion in simple terms.

However, Mr Femi Adesina chose to be unnecessarily mischievous with his recent article which he captioned “Wike vindicates Buharists.”

An excerpt from his article;

“The Wike we knew was either usually crying wolf where there was none, alleging that the Federal Government wanted to kill him, or claiming that he was not answerable to the central government at Abuja in any way, or even pontificating that the President and his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), had failed the country in diverse ways.
If not for the maturity, and the avuncular attitude of President Buhari to all state governors, it would have been easy for one to conclude that he and Wike were enemies. Forsworn ones.”

As it is obvious, these are the attempts of a rabble-rouser seeking attention and relevance to escape public oblivion. Governor Wike's exemplary conduct shows that political opposition is not hatred or madness - a gesture that should be emulated by politicians and their supporters, one of whom is Mr Femi Adesina.

The public show of appreciation by Gov. Wike is nothing new as he has been consistent in boldly expressing commendation or criticism on several issues when necessary.

If Mr Adesina had taken his time to conduct a little research, he would have been aware that the letter of gratitude was indeed sent over three weeks before it was made public.

He saw it on the pages of Newspapers like every other Nigerian and decided that a noble gesture by the Governor should be reduced to a caricature of sorts.

I understand that it is difficult for Femi Adesina to appreciate the beauty and consistency of the said letter considering him being a sad example of inconsistency.

What Femi Adesina the Editor-in-Chief said a few years ago is different from what he is saying today and sadly, with his present ethical direction -or lack of it- we still don't know what he would say tomorrow.

It was Mr Adesina who wrote a scathing piece on PMB's present Chief-of-Staff wherein condemning him. He wrote, “Gambari enslaved himself to please his paymasters. Now, 13 years after, the shackles are still tied around his neck, threatening to asphyxiate him. What an eternal lesson for fawning bootlicking grovellers to learn. Old sins indeed have long shadows.” Today, these exact words best describe him as Mr Adesina has turned around and is paying glowing tribute to the same man he tried to roll in the mud yesterday. A reason why it is often said that _” those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.”_

The long shadows of Mr Adesina's past seem to be hot on his heels forcing him to go to extremes even when it entails him trampling on ideals he once professed and insulting Nigerians in the process.

On reading his article, many people on his Facebook wall opined that such a man should not be allowed near any leader as he seems to have lost his democratic compass and now
speaks in abhorrence of basic democratic principles like freedom of speech and the right to criticism.

The responses from people on his page would ordinarily make any person have a rethink but Mr Adesina seems to be living out Reuben Abatti's opinion that there seems to be a higher force around the seat of power that turns good men of yesterday to bad men who "act like they are under a spell".

His article was an egregious display of the belief that anyone who doesn’t share his political sentiment was a lesser Nigerian spared only by the mercy and good graces of Mr President.

What could possibly have made Mr Adesina who earlier this year, scurrilously call the
Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) “a political party” for complaining about the killing of a man of the clergy. By this, I have now concluded that the Femi Adesina with honest opinions and a genuine love for democracy we knew is gone, and there is no limit to what the present Femi Adesina with a childish love for public attention can say.

On the first read, one would wonder what the aim of his article was as it mostly wandered around banter more fitting for a public bar, but on a closer look, one would notice that the article is about a desperate man grappling for significance.

The motive of the puerile drama can be found in the latter part of his article where he committed the last seven paragraphs of his write up to his real intention of unwarranted sycophancy.

His article was a grovelling attempt to remind the world -and some people in authority- of the troubles, he has been through as well as his long term fealty to the President. It was actually the cry of a hallelujah boy declaring he would sing hallelujah forever (he actually said that in different words).

Such a message shows a man of dwindling relevance that is trying to stir up remembrance as a means of survival. The decent issue of the appreciation was just a casualty used to draw attention to his real message.
Politics / Governor Wike's Letter To Mr President ; A Class Act by Joyfullyme: 9:54pm On Jul 04, 2020
Principles and consistency are values not commonly associated with Nigerian politics. Also uncommon is the willingness to go through inconveniences to hold on to ideals that are not tied to any benefit.

It is against the flow of our common approach Governor Wike has been consistent in courageously speaking up when he sees things going wrong even when there is no visible gain in standing on his principles.

Governor Wike's recent appreciation letter to President Buhari over the Federal Executive Council's approval for the refund of Rivers state's funds spent on Federal roads came as a surprise to most because we are used to viewing disagreements in Government as personal feuds where parties take issues to the extreme.

Although Governor Wike has on several occasions said he would appreciate the Federal Government when things are done right and speak up when they are not right, most didn't believe he would actually practice what he preached.

The long absence of good news from the center concerning Rivers State made most of us believe the Governor was stuck in an antagonistic mindset so even with examples we have had in the past this one still came as a surprise.

In August 2017 when Mr President survived a health scare and returned from his treatment in London, Governor Wike surprised the Country by going to Abuja to welcome him back.

When the Federal Government completed the Port Harcourt International Airport Governor Wike was at the commissioning on the 25th of Oct 2018. He welcomed and very warmly commended President Buhari not only on behalf of the state but he went on to express the gratitude of the people of the South South who would benefit from the Airport.

His position is simply about the right thing being done and proper consideration being given to Rivers State. To this end he has been consistent and true.
He is an example of an outspoken and courageous leader who shows that opposition is not hatred or madness.

In his Wednesday 1st July interview on National Television, when asked the motive behind his appreciation letter to President Buhari he said "If you do good for us we would appreciate you, if you don't we would say so." He explained that even as a politician he has chosen to be a man of his words and his stand has always been clear as he responds to issues based on principles.

"I am one man who would tell you where I am what I would do and what I would not do."
"People take politics too personal and thats the problem we have in this country.

"There are people who are extreme in what they do, i am not an extremist, i believe in principles." He said.

His expression of gratitude has once again taken his action beyond having the courage to take hard decisions to having the class, boldness and humility to put Rivers State first and take soft decision that uphold our values of respect and appreciation.

The appreciation letter would go down in history as a class act and a lesson in opposition and governance as few could have thought of it or had the courage to publicise it as he did.

As it is almost all over the country, It is only logical to expect that people that are now in political leadership started from somewhere and grew to their present position so mentioning their past positions is neither here nor there.

Politics / Rotimi Amaechi Tired Of Benue Killings: Upbraides Fg. by Joyfullyme: 7:09am On Jan 09, 2018
My dear people of Nigeria, it is with profound grief I address you today.

In the past few years, we have suffered and endured a debilitating state of insecurity in Nigeria. Many lives have been cut short while many more have been maimed. Hopes and dreams have been dashed; families distraught and destroyed. Murderous herdsmen and rival gangs reign supreme. Our once peaceful country has lost its serenity and lustre. We are now been derisively referred to as ‘Nigeria of Blood’.

However, the killings in Benue in the first few hours of this new year and the uninspiring, inept, blame-game response of a Federal government that swore to an oath to protect every Nigerian man and woman should collectively compel us to action and scream that we’ve had enough of the insecurity and bloodbath.

In the early hours of New Year’s Day, defenceless residents of Benue, Kwara, Rivers among others were gruesomely attacked and murdered on their way home from the new year cross over night church service. More than 100 men, women and children were murdered in the attacks. In the first couple of days of this new year, people have also been murdered in Lagos.

Some 48 hours after the Benue massacre, the response of the President and government of Nigeria whose primary responsibility is to protect you from these kind of attacks was a gabble blather about a communal clashes and to launch another round of attacks on people that politely advised them to protect Nigerian people or resign from office.

Like most of you, I was shocked, utterly disgusted to hear the man, who, I must repeat, took an oath to protect you, attempt to justify and casually explain away the cold-blooded murder of innocent Nigerians in Benue on New Year’s Day. The President’s attempt to justify and compare the Benue murders or any other killings in Nigeria to whatever is happening in any other part of the world is a deceitful, poisonous narrative that we must never allow to flourish. The President’s repugnant attempt at finger pointing, blaming oil companies, opposition politicians and everyone else apart from himself, is a clear indication that he has abdicated his primary constitutional responsibility to safeguard lives and property.

You know, and many outside Nigeria know that the nature and type of insecurity, violence and carnages in the Country are unique and peculiar to the Country. The madness in Nigeria since the advent of these Change men of power is rooted firmly in the witchcraft politics of those who now preside over the affairs of the Country. They lack the political will and have devilishly refused to halt the violence and killings, and restore some level of sanity in the Country because of their mischievous politics and voodoo electoral calculations.

Let no one deceive you with a twisted narrative on the origins, causes and solutions to the bloodbath in Nigeria. Most of you can attest to how I battled and tackled insecurity when I served as a governor. I led the fight against the cultists, gangs, thugs and criminals masquerading as militants or herdsmen; they were driven out from hiding, many fled. I was able to do that because I was never in bed with the herdsmen; I never appointed any into political office or crowned any king. The administration I led was able to return the State to serenity from the horrible state of insecurity and violence we met when we took over. Nigerians enjoyed peace until the months leading up to the 2015 general elections when these my fellow ‘change’ men of power in the country introduced unprecedented violence and killings in the Country.

We cannot continue to live like this. The Benue massacre is the breaking point where we must all collectively rise up and raise our voices to say we’ve had enough. The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation who swore an oath to protect us must now protect us or resign from office. We will no longer tolerate his inability and/or refusal to protect defenceless citizens. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

My thoughts and prayers are with all who lost loved ones in the Benue attack, as we continue to pray for the repose of the souls of those who were murdered. I do hope that the federal government will begin to protect you.

I wish everyone the very best and a peaceful, happy new year.
Politics / State Broadcast By His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike Con, Gssrs by Joyfullyme: 6:06am On Jan 09, 2018
STATE BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY, NYESOM EZENWO WIKE CON, GSSRS ON THE KILLING OF THE NOTORIOUS CULTIST, MURDERER AND KIDNAPPER, JOHNSON IGWEDIBIA (ALIAS DON WANNY)

My dear people of Rivers State

On the first of January 2018, the entire State and the country at large was traumatized by the callous murder of 23 innocent persons at Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area by the notorious cultist, kidnapper, terrorist and murderer Don Wanny and members of his doomed gang.

2. When I visited the families of the victims, I placed a prize tag of N200 million for any information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of this most heinous crime against humanity.

3. I also assured the security agencies of our further determination to continue supporting them with whatever it would take to have these criminals apprehended and brought to justice.

4. Yesterday, 7th January 2018, we all received the news about the death of Don Wanny and two of his fellow gang members in their hideouts in Enugu State while trying to escape arrest from the security agencies that were closing in on them.

5. Although we would have wanted Mr. Don Wanny and his gang members to have been arrested alive and put to trial for their numerous crimes and atrocities against his own people. His death, nevertheless, is a huge relief to the entire State, and therefore, most welcome development.

6. For years the security situation in Omoku in particular, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government area in general, has been most challenging because of the criminal activities of Don Wanny and his gang.

7. We therefore wholeheartedly thank President Muhammadu Buhari for rising to the occasion and not politicking with the issue of security. We also commend the security agencies, particularly, the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Security, for swiftly rising to the challenge in the most professional manner.

8. There is no doubt that this heroic success has proven what is possible when our security agencies are willing to discharge their constitutional duties with unadulterated commitment and professionalism.

9. Since 2015, we have been calling for tackling security issues devoid of political considerations in Rivers State in order to achieve maximum result. This level of commitment and professionalism as demonstrated in the Omoku case is exemplary. Therefore, we will continue to demand no less from our security agencies to keep our State safe and secure for residents, visitors and investors.

10. As a government, we have invested heavily on the security of the State and will continue to do everything within our powers to guarantee the security and safety of lives and property throughout the State. As a fact, we will spare no cost in ensuring that nobody will have peace if the lives and property of our people make no meaning to them.

11. However, we are deeply worried when our investments in security are deliberately prevented from yielding the desired results due largely to the recurrent tendency to politicize the federally controlled security agencies and services in the State. This is the reason why we must thank the President for doing things differently and with the support of all, a different result has been achieved.

12. The aftermaths of crime and insecurity affect society as a whole, and not only the direct victims. Accordingly, the duty to fight crime and criminality remains collective and no right thinking person should ever indulge in politicizing security issues under any circumstance.

13. In deed, at a time such as this, we expect political leaders to eschew political sentiments in their reactions and utterances and join forces with the State Government to address the situation and bring justice to the victims.

14. Regrettably, instead of showing respect for the dead and genuine sympathies to the bereaved families, the leader of the All Progressives Congress and former Governor of the State prefers to exploit the unfortunate incident for political ends by disseminating wild, unguarded and inciting statements to the unsuspecting public.

15. Contrary to his false claims and posturing the security challenge in Omoku predated our administration and Rivers State was never peaceful when he held sway as Governor. In case he has forgotten, this same Don Wanny tragically killed 32 persons in Omoku on the 14th of December 2014 under his watch as Governor. Yet, he failed to bring Don Wanny to justice.

16. We reiterate our zero tolerance for all forms of criminality and reassure all residents of our determination to be tough with those who choose to violate our criminal laws and undermine peace and security in the State.

17. To underscore the seriousness we attach to the fight against violent crime, we shall be amending the Anti kidnapping law to prescribe the maximum sentence for engaging in cultism, robbery and kidnapping.

18. Our decision to offer amnesty to all repentant cultists, militants and criminals was done in good faith and in the best interest of the State. Regrettably, while the programme was on course, the former governor and his ilk dissuaded some of these criminals from sincerely embracing the amnesty. The result is the recent escalation of cult and criminal activities in parts of the State.

19. At all times, our position on the amnesty offer is clear: those who genuinely embraced the offer are bound to fully, completely and perpetually renounce all forms of criminality and be of good behaviour in order to enjoy terms of the amnesty. The full weight of the law will be released on those who failed to embrace it.

20. Consequently, based on reliable information by the security agencies, I hereby direct them to immediately arrest and prosecute the under-mentioned persons who have either reneged on the terms of the amnesty and or refused to embrace same by continuing with cultism, kidnapping, and armed robbery in the State:

Shelloween:
Punishing Eze in Jos for the 'sins' of Ikechukwu in Aba, or punishing Wale in Bornu for the sins of Gbenga in Lagos, or punishing Adamu in Enugu for the sins of Musa in Sokoto, has always been the cause of the majority of ethnic conflicts in Nigeria.

What is or has ever been the sin of Ikechukwu in Aba ?

Ikoyi $43million: Rivers State Government claims ownership

▪Gives FG seven days ultimatum to return the funds diverted by the immediate past Governor

Rivers State Governor has given the Federal Government an ultimatum of 7 days to return the $43million dollars found in a luxury apartment in Ikoyi to the Rivers State Government , failure which the State Government will take legal measures to ensure that it gets back her stolen resources

Governor Wike also declared that the $43million dollars found in the luxury apartment in Ikoyi belongs to the Rivers State Government.
.

Governor Wike said that investigations by the Rivers State Government revealed that the money was proceed from the sale of gas turbines by the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

Addressing journalists at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday night, Governor Wike said: "The money in question belongs to the former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. We want to confirm that the houses in Ikoyi also belong to Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

"If you recollect in 2015, we said that gas turbines built by Former Governor Peter Odili were sold to Sahara Energy, business partners of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi at $319million.

"That money was used to sponsor the All Progressives Congress for the 2015 general elections. From the date of sale of the gas turbines to May 29, 2015, the money depleted from $319million to $204,000 . What was stashed at the Ikoyi residence was part of that fund".

He said : "We have facts to prove that the said money belongs to the Rivers State Government. The Federal Government must return our money".

Governor Wike said all the stories being peddled about the money belonging to the National Intelligence Agency are false and mere face saving measures by the embattled APC Federal Government.

He said: "As I speak to you, the Federal Government is so embarrassed that this has happened. All the stories that the money belongs to the NIA are fake".

Governor Wike challenged the Federal Government to set up a panel of Inquiry , which will sit publicly to investigate the money, if it doubted the claim of the Rivers State Government.

He stated that the Rivers State Government needs the money to complete an array of projects, insisting that on no account would this criminal activity be swept under the carpet.

The governor said as long as the Federal Government continues to disturb the progress of Rivers State, so long will God throw the Federal Government into confusion.

"We are giving them seven days to return our money. Otherwise, we would take legal action to recover our money. $43million will help us complete several projects. We need that money for projects", he said.
