My dear people of Nigeria, it is with profound grief I address you today. In the past few years, we have suffered and endured a debilitating state of insecurity in Nigeria. Many lives have been cut short while many more have been maimed. Hopes and dreams have been dashed; families distraught and destroyed. Murderous herdsmen and rival gangs reign supreme. Our once peaceful country has lost its serenity and lustre. We are now been derisively referred to as ‘Nigeria of Blood’. However, the killings in Benue in the first few hours of this new year and the uninspiring, inept, blame-game response of a Federal government that swore to an oath to protect every Nigerian man and woman should collectively compel us to action and scream that we’ve had enough of the insecurity and bloodbath. In the early hours of New Year’s Day, defenceless residents of Benue, Kwara, Rivers among others were gruesomely attacked and murdered on their way home from the new year cross over night church service. More than 100 men, women and children were murdered in the attacks. In the first couple of days of this new year, people have also been murdered in Lagos. Some 48 hours after the Benue massacre, the response of the President and government of Nigeria whose primary responsibility is to protect you from these kind of attacks was a gabble blather about a communal clashes and to launch another round of attacks on people that politely advised them to protect Nigerian people or resign from office. Like most of you, I was shocked, utterly disgusted to hear the man, who, I must repeat, took an oath to protect you, attempt to justify and casually explain away the cold-blooded murder of innocent Nigerians in Benue on New Year’s Day. The President’s attempt to justify and compare the Benue murders or any other killings in Nigeria to whatever is happening in any other part of the world is a deceitful, poisonous narrative that we must never allow to flourish. The President’s repugnant attempt at finger pointing, blaming oil companies, opposition politicians and everyone else apart from himself, is a clear indication that he has abdicated his primary constitutional responsibility to safeguard lives and property. You know, and many outside Nigeria know that the nature and type of insecurity, violence and carnages in the Country are unique and peculiar to the Country. The madness in Nigeria since the advent of these Change men of power is rooted firmly in the witchcraft politics of those who now preside over the affairs of the Country. They lack the political will and have devilishly refused to halt the violence and killings, and restore some level of sanity in the Country because of their mischievous politics and voodoo electoral calculations. Let no one deceive you with a twisted narrative on the origins, causes and solutions to the bloodbath in Nigeria. Most of you can attest to how I battled and tackled insecurity when I served as a governor. I led the fight against the cultists, gangs, thugs and criminals masquerading as militants or herdsmen; they were driven out from hiding, many fled. I was able to do that because I was never in bed with the herdsmen; I never appointed any into political office or crowned any king. The administration I led was able to return the State to serenity from the horrible state of insecurity and violence we met when we took over. Nigerians enjoyed peace until the months leading up to the 2015 general elections when these my fellow ‘change’ men of power in the country introduced unprecedented violence and killings in the Country. We cannot continue to live like this. The Benue massacre is the breaking point where we must all collectively rise up and raise our voices to say we’ve had enough. The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation who swore an oath to protect us must now protect us or resign from office. We will no longer tolerate his inability and/or refusal to protect defenceless citizens. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. My thoughts and prayers are with all who lost loved ones in the Benue attack, as we continue to pray for the repose of the souls of those who were murdered. I do hope that the federal government will begin to protect you. I wish everyone the very best and a peaceful, happy new year. |
STATE BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY, NYESOM EZENWO WIKE CON, GSSRS ON THE KILLING OF THE NOTORIOUS CULTIST, MURDERER AND KIDNAPPER, JOHNSON IGWEDIBIA (ALIAS DON WANNY) My dear people of Rivers State On the first of January 2018, the entire State and the country at large was traumatized by the callous murder of 23 innocent persons at Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area by the notorious cultist, kidnapper, terrorist and murderer Don Wanny and members of his doomed gang. 2. When I visited the families of the victims, I placed a prize tag of N200 million for any information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of this most heinous crime against humanity. 3. I also assured the security agencies of our further determination to continue supporting them with whatever it would take to have these criminals apprehended and brought to justice. 4. Yesterday, 7th January 2018, we all received the news about the death of Don Wanny and two of his fellow gang members in their hideouts in Enugu State while trying to escape arrest from the security agencies that were closing in on them. 5. Although we would have wanted Mr. Don Wanny and his gang members to have been arrested alive and put to trial for their numerous crimes and atrocities against his own people. His death, nevertheless, is a huge relief to the entire State, and therefore, most welcome development. 6. For years the security situation in Omoku in particular, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government area in general, has been most challenging because of the criminal activities of Don Wanny and his gang. 7. We therefore wholeheartedly thank President Muhammadu Buhari for rising to the occasion and not politicking with the issue of security. We also commend the security agencies, particularly, the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Security, for swiftly rising to the challenge in the most professional manner. 8. There is no doubt that this heroic success has proven what is possible when our security agencies are willing to discharge their constitutional duties with unadulterated commitment and professionalism. 9. Since 2015, we have been calling for tackling security issues devoid of political considerations in Rivers State in order to achieve maximum result. This level of commitment and professionalism as demonstrated in the Omoku case is exemplary. Therefore, we will continue to demand no less from our security agencies to keep our State safe and secure for residents, visitors and investors. 10. As a government, we have invested heavily on the security of the State and will continue to do everything within our powers to guarantee the security and safety of lives and property throughout the State. As a fact, we will spare no cost in ensuring that nobody will have peace if the lives and property of our people make no meaning to them. 11. However, we are deeply worried when our investments in security are deliberately prevented from yielding the desired results due largely to the recurrent tendency to politicize the federally controlled security agencies and services in the State. This is the reason why we must thank the President for doing things differently and with the support of all, a different result has been achieved. 12. The aftermaths of crime and insecurity affect society as a whole, and not only the direct victims. Accordingly, the duty to fight crime and criminality remains collective and no right thinking person should ever indulge in politicizing security issues under any circumstance. 13. In deed, at a time such as this, we expect political leaders to eschew political sentiments in their reactions and utterances and join forces with the State Government to address the situation and bring justice to the victims. 14. Regrettably, instead of showing respect for the dead and genuine sympathies to the bereaved families, the leader of the All Progressives Congress and former Governor of the State prefers to exploit the unfortunate incident for political ends by disseminating wild, unguarded and inciting statements to the unsuspecting public. 15. Contrary to his false claims and posturing the security challenge in Omoku predated our administration and Rivers State was never peaceful when he held sway as Governor. In case he has forgotten, this same Don Wanny tragically killed 32 persons in Omoku on the 14th of December 2014 under his watch as Governor. Yet, he failed to bring Don Wanny to justice. 16. We reiterate our zero tolerance for all forms of criminality and reassure all residents of our determination to be tough with those who choose to violate our criminal laws and undermine peace and security in the State. 17. To underscore the seriousness we attach to the fight against violent crime, we shall be amending the Anti kidnapping law to prescribe the maximum sentence for engaging in cultism, robbery and kidnapping. 18. Our decision to offer amnesty to all repentant cultists, militants and criminals was done in good faith and in the best interest of the State. Regrettably, while the programme was on course, the former governor and his ilk dissuaded some of these criminals from sincerely embracing the amnesty. The result is the recent escalation of cult and criminal activities in parts of the State. 19. At all times, our position on the amnesty offer is clear: those who genuinely embraced the offer are bound to fully, completely and perpetually renounce all forms of criminality and be of good behaviour in order to enjoy terms of the amnesty. The full weight of the law will be released on those who failed to embrace it. 20. Consequently, based on reliable information by the security agencies, I hereby direct them to immediately arrest and prosecute the under-mentioned persons who have either reneged on the terms of the amnesty and or refused to embrace same by continuing with cultism, kidnapping, and armed robbery in the State: OGBA/EGBEMA/NDONI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA 1. Addressing journalists at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday night, Governor Wike said: "The money in question belongs to the former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. We want to confirm that the houses in Ikoyi also belong to Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. "If you recollect in 2015, we said that gas turbines built by Former Governor Peter Odili were sold to Sahara Energy, business partners of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi at $319million. "That money was used to sponsor the All Progressives Congress for the 2015 general elections. From the date of sale of the gas turbines to May 29, 2015, the money depleted from $319million to $204,000 . What was stashed at the Ikoyi residence was part of that fund". He said : "We have facts to prove that the said money belongs to the Rivers State Government. The Federal Government must return our money". Governor Wike said all the stories being peddled about the money belonging to the National Intelligence Agency are false and mere face saving measures by the embattled APC Federal Government. He said: "As I speak to you, the Federal Government is so embarrassed that this has happened. All the stories that the money belongs to the NIA are fake". Governor Wike challenged the Federal Government to set up a panel of Inquiry , which will sit publicly to investigate the money, if it doubted the claim of the Rivers State Government. He stated that the Rivers State Government needs the money to complete an array of projects, insisting that on no account would this criminal activity be swept under the carpet. The governor said as long as the Federal Government continues to disturb the progress of Rivers State, so long will God throw the Federal Government into confusion. "We are giving them seven days to return our money. Otherwise, we would take legal action to recover our money. $43million will help us complete several projects. We need that money for projects", he said. Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic Media. 14th April, 2017. |
Good question |
For me the car issue really turned the game around but not in your direction. Common Sense 101 Why would a popular man whose future is dependent on how well he keeps the secret not just buy but also register a car for his secret lover in his name ? Did he have to use the car before giving her ? Is he so daft not to know that he would be giving his girlfriend (a potential enemy) proof of their involvement? |

Jerry Needam Press Statement ESI: Account For All Illegal Dues Collected From Council Chairmen, Lawmakers By Your Wife, PDP Tells Amaechi Following the admission by Mrs Judith Amaechi, wife of Gov Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of collecting N35m from each of the 23 Council Chairmen across the State supposedly for her Empowerment Support Initiate (ESI) with nothing to show for it, the State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, wants Gov. Amaechi to tell Rivers people what happened to the billions of naira. Happy that Gov Amaechi’s wife has at last admitted what she has denied over time though belated, the PDP through a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to the State Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah said the issue is no longer whether or not the council chairmen were compulsorily levied but where were the monies channeled into. The party also wishes to note that a similar compulsory levy was made on the House of Assembly by Mrs Judith Amaechi. According to the party, this is just one of such clandestine devices Gov Amaechi and his wife are using to milk the State dry till date. More worrisome, the PDP said, was the threat issued to the unwilling council Chairmen and lawmakers to ensure compliance, stressing that Mrs Amaechi lied by presenting the case as though the monies were voluntary donations whereas the monies were deducted from the councils’ allocations at source. “What else could be a better way of extorting money from political office holders and duping the State than this, yet Amaechi has the guts to talk about corrupt public officers as if he is a saint which he is not. We hope those who have been deceived into thinking that we are just crying wolf over nothing can now believe us. This is just a tip of the iceberg. A lot more revelations will be made in due course”, the PDP declared. It would be recalled that the immediate past Minister of State for Education, and leader of PDP in the State, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike had while addressing newsmen Monday, October 27, 2014 in Port Harcourt raised the issue of mandatory levy of N35m on each of the 23 council chairmen in the State to Gov Amaechi’s wife’s pet project, the Empowerment Support Initiative which were allegedly diverted to private use. Mrs Amaechi while responding through her press secretary, Mr Bekwele admitted collecting the monies. Signed: Jerry Needam Special Adviser, on Media to State PDP Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah Tuesday, October 28, 2014. This democracy is real demonstration of craze. Barr E N Wike. |
size38: The incident happen this morning in Nyesom Wike's own community in Obio/Akpor LGA this morning. Information has it that wike has armed some of his people who are loyal to him and the PDP to fight and kill other members of the same community who are loyal to Amaechi and APC. For coming out en mass to show support for the for much anticipated arrival of Amaechi for his Town Hall meeting with the community members. As am typing this now, a father has shot his son for being a loyalist to Amaechi and APC. Wike is setting fire and killing his own people for the sake of political power. Wike cannot rule Rivers state by Arms. He should go to the poll to test his popularity and acceptability by the people. Not causing trouble for the people he wants to rule. As a result of this incident, some are dead already while many are on the hospital bed taking treatment.Your report is not correct. Mr Anthony Owabie the deposed traditional ruler of the community and an APC supporter shot his son and two other people that had different political views from him. He has been arrested by the police. |
I hear APC supporters shot 3 people but they have been arrested by the pooooolice. |
Wike the next governor of Rivers State. Johnathan/ Wike 2015. |
When would they ever learn ? All the negative news and projections about Wike on Nairaland have turned out to be false. Anybody on ground in R/S clearly knows that Wike is the man to beat in the state. Wike would win PDP primaries and go on to win the main election. This is how dust was raised concerning Fayose and we all know how it played out. Wike for Governor ! God bless Wike ! |
The offer is a political master stroke. If Tambuwal accepts which he is likely to then a lot would change. He cannot get the presidential ticket in PDP and truthfully he cannot decamp today and get APC's ticket so what political future does he have? If APC wins the presidency and have majority they would not keep a Northern speaker, and if he continues like this and Jonathan wins he would not he able to hold his office. Even presently, if APC has real control of the HOR they are likely to want to remove him so there is a good chance he would take the offer. |
Abeg has Bipi been arrested before we would talk of arraignment? Let us think before we talk. |
If the story involves Killer Lloyd, we cannot believe Ameachi's version of the story. |

BabaAlabi: So Chief Wike is now a champion producing results? I was wondering what brought about your comment only to look at your posts and understand.
