ukenke: This will go down as major achievement of the present administration. Cash call shortages has been a problem for the Nigeria oil and gas industry for many years. With this agreement, oil companies will source for funds to execute their projects and recoup their money from production at a rate agreed with NNPC. The other important factor that needs to be addressed is the militancy and the incessant destruction of oil and gas infrastructure, in the Niger Delta. This policy will go down in history as a major milestone in our oil industry, reduce UTC, offset cash call with production, sounds like Obj's PSC to me. This Kachikwu is truely a genius! ! Glad the thief thief PIB has been cast into oblivion where it rightly belongs, we need good policies not stvpid ones like the CBN always churn out. |

fayne: Government of the day with all their insincerity, deceit and lies. We heared about feed the school children program and what happened to it?Recession. We heared alot about BOI YES program and its still recession that affects it. Then we were told that government cannot finance the budget of 2016 because of the effect of recession as a result of low oil output, then it makes me sick to my stomach to actualy believe that our so called leaders, and planners who have attained a reasonable level of exposure and education, can not plan a budget that is realistic, a budget that can see the light of day and improve the life of the masses. Its such a shame to APC, a party i actualy never criticised because i see a glimmer ray of hope in. Well its such a pity. Surprise enough is the fact that our budget can finance travel allowances of the same so called leaders, their huge feeding and relaxing allowances, and so many allowances that enable them to loot the resources that is not available. God/ Allah dey watch them, we remain steadfast in our course for a better Nigeria, and forever we will stand Tall. God/Allah bless the hustles and strugles of the minds and hearts that seek for a true and better Nigeria. You expect a government that is running a budget deficit to dole you money for buisness with no serious strings attached? You are complaining about the government, when will you start a campaign against pipeline bombing, to bereft your government of excuses like the CJTF is doing against boko haram? When will you campaign against traders who have hiked prices for flimsy reasons? Government is not a celestial feeding bottle if you don't complain about things affecting the Government, you have no right to tell us how the Government's response affected you. Mavoro: Six months after the commencement of the YES programme by BOI, not even a single person has benefited from the time invested to this initially promising scheme even after getting to the final stage (Plan Approval). NOT ONE!
The #YES programme has successfully wasted the precious times of young entrepreneurs who initially thought #BOI #YES_P would be their stepping stone to a greater future. BOI lied to these entrepreneurs, cajoled them to sign up for the programme, hid key terms of the loan and allowed these helpless youths to commit their time, resources energy, intellect for 60 solid days in online training from AMI ( A good exposure I must say) and a week in class training for which some participants had to travel long distances, feed themselves and pay for hotel accommodation. Imagine the stress nursing mothers and their babies had to go through for 6 days and probably more for some.
My major problem with BOI is this: why must you lie and lure thousands of youth to sign for the YES programme when you know that there are other terms and conditions you never disclosed initially to these youths until they have reached the final stage before telling them? Why? Is it because you knew if you told them early enough, many would not join the scheme because you also know only 1-2% of these entrepreneurs can meet such stringent conditions. BOI an organization I hold in high esteem has turned itself into a petty corporate liar.
To our great youth, whether you have started or not, there is one condition(A major condition) BOI never told you during the training but will inform you only when your plan is approved and I doubt many will meet such condition in time, if at all.
YOU MUST PRODUCE 2 GUARANTORS WORTH 5M (subject to loan amount requested) EACH AND THEY MUST BE READY TO SWEAR A NOTARISED AFFIDAVIT OF NET WORTH AND DROP THE RECEIPT(S) OF THEIR ASSET.
In the beginning, BOI only told us our POST SECONDARY CERTIFICATE is our security not this. But this is what they will tell you after your plan is approved. I have been there hence LISTEN!
Unfortunately for me, I can't meet such stringent conditions of N5m net worth of each guarantor. I was ready to drop my certificate but this I can not do, after much investment into this programme. I know many are like me, BOI deceived us into this programme but what can we do? How many young entrepreneurs can meet these conditions?
I strongly want to call on the Federal Government and all parties involved to ask BOI to revert to the original conditions with which this programme was advertised. We are sincere and excellent entrepreneurs to have made it this far and we are ready to contribute their quota in developing our economy that currently lies in a cesspool, but we need support, not one with impossible conditions as BOI YES programme is asking for.
To BOI, I thank you for time wasted, I strongly advise henceforth that you come out plain with the true conditions from day one and not cajol Nigerian youths into your failed YES programme filled with half truths. Have you asked yourself why not one person across the nation has benefited from this YES after 6 months? I will advise you maintain the certificate as security because it will be easily met by sincere youths than the 5m each (subject to loan sum requested), 2 guarantors, if truely the goal of your YES programme is to assist young entrepreneurs, contribute to the economy and take people out of poverty. Right now, You are not different from commercial banks, why do I need to waste my time with you if I have such guarantors in the first place. Only 1-2% out of 1200 from every batch will finally make that loan conditions defeating your aim of setting up such programme. So, please, think again on your conditions as many youth are already frustrated with your emergency post approval conditions.
To our youths, I must commend your courage, we have really endured this country despite the frustration everyday and everywhere. My encouragement to you all is to keep up fighting and look out for better deals and grants. For those who will fully meet the requirements, I congratulate you in advance and enjoin you to do your best to contribute your quota to our economy as required by the programme. We must not give up as entrepreneurs, if YES does not work out, there are other better programmes out there. For all your time and resources spent, take consolation in the AMI and in-class training which is truely rich and loaded. You must not give up in yourselves and in Nigeria, no matter the outcome of your YES application.
I have written all these to report what is going on that many are not yet privy to. This will help you prepare ahead and gather enough strength to carry on. This is also aimed at BOI to see the extent of damage that will be done to many of these great young entrepreneurs because of their initial lies.
BOI YES programme is actually a waste of my precious time and resources because I have invested my all into it with no funding to show after 6 months in the programme.
Shukuriya.

Tolupride: The alarming rate of teenage pregnancy in the Rural areas
The incessant increase is rate of teenage pregnancy in the Rural area is so alarming and obnoxious, this societal problem is as dangerous and damaging as other social vices e.g Cultism, Drug, thuggery etc
This societal abnormality as begin to seems normal in the Rural areas, this problem is not peculiar to the Rural area, but the recent rise in the rate of teenage pregnancy in that part is unprecedented
My recent visit to my village,in the Yuletide mood expose me to another dimension of this vices, which got me pissed off.
Hardly can you see a girl in her early 20's and teens without having a baby or two out of wedlock, is so disheartening hearing stories of 14,15 years old kids so exposed sexually, the moral bankruptcy of our youths both male and females is so injurious to our societal standing and status, Urgent measures are needed to be taken to avert the pending danger of this abnormality ...
Pointing out the problems without proposing solutions is fruitless, So in lieu of the aforementioned problem, these are the my proposed solutions
1. Including sex education in our secondary school syllabus
2. Organising seminars to orientate the youth about the danger and control of sex, the message should be Targeted to both sexes, not just at the girls.
3. Parent have a lot of task in this context, by teaching and counselling their wards about the danger of tenage pregnancy and other moral lessons
4. The community as a whole as their part to play by reporting any suspicious dealings with underage girls and boys and also placing caution on them
5. The adult male are the major perpetrators of this evil act, by devilishly taking advantage of this tenage girls..knowing fully the pending danger it can cause to the girls career ambition and future, forgetting the girl can be their sisters, daughters, etc. adult males are advised to find conscience if they gat none, to find end to this societal problem. And Lastly
5. Criminalising the act of teenage pregnancy: I think this will go a long way in curbing this crises, by punishing the offender with a threat of imprisonment ,I think this will enable other youth take caution of this act knowing fully the punishment awaiting offenders...I think females have the potential of becoming whatever they desires, so we shouldn't allow the selfish act of some people ,with their desire of few minutes pleasure to ruin the future of our female children by taking advantage of their gullibility.
I think we all have our roles to play in curbing this crises..

Oil currently produces up to 90% of Nigeria’s income, it is a proven source of income for the country even at its current low price. Why not use the money they are using to look for oil in the desert for agriculture or something meaningful, then we have other source of income, we can start looking for more oil in irrelevant places?
If economy is well diversified, southern oil will rest. America is the biggest oil producing nation with over 10million barrels of oil a day, if they stop production today, it won't affect their economy 1bit.
Think now. if oil is the only means of generating income, we are left at the mercy of oil prices. If we have other source of income, even if naija delta say no more oil, Nigeria won't crumble.
By the way, no amount of oil found in the north can ever come close to 10% of what is been drilled in the South.. Why not let everyone have unique thing to brag about for the over all instead of the country instead of oyel oyel. Do you even understand that Nigeria has a comparative advantage when it comes to oil export? Don't you realise that diversification is a long term process while you have imminent needs, like mouths to feed? Where will you get the money to diversify with if not where you have invested in the past? Do you think oil is sold like tomatoes where you go shopping and the grocery have it on display? it is sold with long term contracts laced with several indemnities, that will force you to get an alternative at all cost to keep your market share. Do you expect India's biggest refineries to shut down because some !diots are roaming the creeks? why do you think companies declare force majeure for every disruption in supply? for fun? what happens to our market share once we declare force majeure? You are getting the Syria part wrong, it is legal for a country to form alliance just like Nato, GCC, AU etc. so Putin fighting for Assad is not the bone of contention.
The bone of contention is that all cease fire agreements have failed primarily because the US and her allies are pushing for regime change in Syria, a position Russia strongly disagrees with hence further escalation of the conflict.
Russia is hoping that Trump will shift grounds in that regards, while campaigning, Trump recognised, Syrian Army, Russia, Iran and Hezbollah as the only forces fighting daesh while the US and GCC are busy replenishing their ranks. |

Politics › Re: 3 Important Steps To Get Nigeria Out Of Recession by jpphilips(m): 1:23pm On Dec 15, 2016 |
DahLegend: Nigeria’s GDP reached an all-time high of $568 Billion in 2014 after a rebasing exercise done by the previous administration but has now dropped to $481Billion (a negative growth rate of about 14% year-on-year). The Gross Domestic Product of an economy is the value of goods and services produced in that economy, for the period or quarter under review. Recent data released by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics shows Nigeria is officially in recession as her GDP annual growth rate has now contracted for 3 consecutive quarters further down to -2.24%, the lowest in over a decade. Over 70% of Nigeria’s revenue comes from the sale of crude oil; however, the fall in price of the commodity in the global market coupled with a sharp drop in Nigeria’s daily crude oil production due to unrest in the Nigerdelta region has impacted negatively on the country’s economic growth.
Major factors that compounded the effects of our falling GDP are: reduction in revenue; rising inflation (inflation has surged from 9.6% in January this year to 18.3% after 10 months) and a colossal drop in both FDI (Foreign Direct Investments) and FPI (Foreign Portfolio Investments). With all having significant ripple effects, most notably the scarcity of foreign currencies which has spawn the spread between the interbank market rate and the ‘local’ exchange rate, so much pressure has been put on our foreign exchange reserves which is on a steady decline. These factors have unfortunately combined to push Nigeria, and consequently, Nigerians into a dismal financial situation.
How can the Nation pull out of the recession?
In simple terms – “DIVERSIFICATION”.
This word amongst many has been abused by both the government and the people. Using the financial definition, ‘Diversification is the process of allocating capital in a way that reduces the exposure to any one particular asset or risk’. The solution to our problems deeply lies in how we go about achieving this feat.
Summarily, here are ways we can achieve the objective of a pull away from recession:
1. INCREASED EXPORT/PRODUCTION & REDUCTION IN DEPENDENCE ON IMPORTS
Nigeria boasts of resources (according to Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, it has over 40 extractable solid minerals – gold, coal, limestone, iron ore, lead/zinc) which abound in commercial quantities with a global market and also sectors(manufacturing, textile, tourism, ICT) with untapped opportunities and by applying a simple scale of preference by way of capital investments as we do not have requisite funds to bolster all these sectors at once, we would go a long way in properly diversifying away from an almost complete dependence on oil.
Also, 80% of government’s revenue is recycled into foreign exchange due to the country’s high propensity to import which puts pressure on our reserves and owes majorly to our dependence on items that can be produced in-house. In agriculture, Nigeria has a vast arable land mass and have the capacity to cultivate major crops like beans, rice, oil palm, yams, millet, melon, maize, cassava, plantains, groundnut, etc. Encouraging agriculture would mean we would not only be self-sufficient in terms of food production but also have enough to export.
Lastly, investing in sectors that would ensure we have not just products but talents is key. The World Bank has estimated the value of Nigeria’s diaspora remittance market at $21 billion, a figure that has been rising every year over the last decade and the largest in Africa. Diaspora remittances are funds sent back home by Nigerians leaving or working abroad. This remittance, next to petro-dollars, is currently the second biggest source of foreign exchange earnings by the County. Therefore, education, skill acquisition and talent development cannot be neglected and must be encouraged at every level.
2. CONTROLLED EXPENDITURE
According to the 2016 budget which has a deficit of 2.2 trillion naira, Nigeria is expected to spend a whopping 69% of our estimated revenue on recurrent expenditure. Recurrent expenditure refers to payments made by governments or organizations for all purposes except capital costs. It includes payments for wages and salaries for workers, electricity bills, purchase of diesel, etc. Priority instead should be given to capital expenditure on infrastructure in key sectors with would have knock-off effects on other sectors. Applying a simple scale of preference to bringing an end to our decaying economy is highly advisable as we do not have requisite funds to bolster all these sectors at once while making steady developments to other sectors with a projected completion timeline. A typical example is the power sector which if significant improvements in generating and transmitting electricity are made would not only reduce individual costs but would also reduce companies operating costs (this means more revenue, more tax for the government, reduced product prices, etc.), encourage new startups (SMEs) amongst others which would lead to enormous growth and expansion of the nation GDP.
Therefore, I would suggest:
- Reduced personnel cost of government workers. - Gross reduction in overheads. - Reduction in statutory transfers to institutions. - Austerity measures in all arms of government should be encompassing.
3. PROPER GOVERNMENT POLICIES
Appropriate fiscal (means by which a government adjusts its spending levels and tax rates to monitor and influence a nation’s economy) and monetary (actions of a central bank, currency board or other regulatory committee that determine the size and rate of growth of the money supply, which in turn affects interest rates. Monetary policy is maintained through actions such as modifying the interest rate, buying or selling government bonds, and changing the amount of money banks are required to keep/available for loans) policies.
Having effective policies would spur growth and create a better climate for both domestic and foreign investments/investors.
In conclusion, although these are no quick fixes to the current economic challenges, they are massive steps in the right direction as either investments or quick palliatives.
