Volksfuhrer: Tales by moonlight!
You see, the job of a historian is not only to present facts but also to explain them. In which case he never loses his focus of the big picture.
Please, Zik and Nkrumah were not in the same class. Who told you Nkrumah was "diplomatic" like Zik. Nkrumah was fearless! Remember, Nkrumah was imprisoned for leading a revolt. Anyway, let me move away from minutiae to a more serious issue.
Even though I'm not an "Ojukwuist," but notwithstanding the outcome of the civil war, I still believe Ojukwu was a better leader than Zik. Ojukwu made many mistakes but he stayed true to his cause till the end. He had a vision, locked his mind unto it and unequivocally pursued it!
Question: was Zik not originally part of the Biafra cause? O yes, he was! Was Zik not sanguinary too at this time for supporting Biafra? Or he didn't know there would be war at secession? Here lies your hypocrisy!
Further question: what happened to your beloved hero when it appeared Biafra would lose the war? This is what happened. Your Zik defected to the side of "one Nigeria...indivisible...indestructible!" This was the same man who wrote Biafra's anthem! No wonder the British called him Zikzag!
Sorry, there's long list of indiscretions impeaching Zik's integrity as a great leader. Need I say more! I rather play music than have a debate with someone who is historically malnutritioned. when you graduate from an accredited historic institution, you may qualify for a debate, for now, you are just a nuisance. |

Volksfuhrer: What were his achievements as Governor General? Nothing substantive. Besides, he became a Governor General by virtue of his party's coalition with NPC. It was fortuitous, not earned. A different coalition could have produced a different person as Governor General! Question: why did he choose to be a junior partner in one coalition over being a senior partner and Prime Minister in another coalition? After all, the latter was more powerful. So much for the wisdom of your hero.
Another baloney.
Several people were instrumental to Nigeria's Independence. In no particular order of importance, the under-listed did a great job for independence: Enahoro, Ikoku, Awolowo, Herbert Macaulay, Imodu, Okotie-Eboh, Fani-Kayode, Aminu Kano, Tarka, Bello, Balewa, et al. You get the point now? That there is nothing unique about Zik's fight for independence.
Hauling invectives at me will not change the fact that Zik was over-hyped. When you prepare a better CV for Zik than the ones you've been parading as achievements, you may reply with informed rebuttals.
Kindest regards
( Grins out of thread.) Bros there is no rebuttal what You said has answered it all, you mentioned people who fought for our independence, like you said in no chronological order meaning you have no clue what they did. I want my son, but I do not have the means to raise him or get involved in any court case with the family who would be more than willing to fight me for it.
I thought I wanted my girl, but I can never marry into that family anymore. God will not permit. I believe she intentionally conceived to tie me down, and I gullibly fell for it. She wasn't such a good girl as she initially had me believe.
I want my life and my sanity, I was making progress until I saw the pic of him. And he looked just like me.
I feel so helpless. You musnt get everything you want, no sane court will grant you custody of that child except your parents have a good reason to do so on your behalf. For now, face your future but keep in touch with your child though the family may wish to deprive you of that. You just have to move on, when the child grows, he will understand, if he doesn't nothing you can do!! |

Now I don't blame the north anymore. I blame Gej for squandering a divine and rare opportunity. Or did you think our constitutional development began with Zik? Your post reeks of ignorance. The speech is empty by your own psychotic standard, by sane standard, Zik has defiled treason to educate his people on the need to self determination, an action that generations to come will remain grateful unless Nigeria cease to exist. Young man, can you tell us exactly what your grand father was doing at the time? Let me guess: Laying ambush for maidens coming back from the stream. It is repugnant to note that at this age of proliferation of knowledge we still have people like you who lack objective reasoning. Now they are back once more to complete the balkanization of Nigeria which they started a long time ago. Zik was not pushing for Ibos to control their resources, he was pushing for Nigeria to control her resources. That speech was where the Journey to an independent Nigeria began. |

Volksfuhrer: You know a lot about the period yet you have not been able to show Zik's contribution to national development or present his personal sacrifices. He was first "Governor General," first "President," and so what! What did he do more with such positions than to receive and entertain foreign VIPs. That is what you call achievement!
His nationalism could not even persuade a part of Cameroon to remain with Nigeria despite inheriting a party supposedly caring for them: that is your achievement as foremost nationalist!
I'm sorry, you are the toddler here who doesn't know what he's talking about! You are just a cheap Lout, do you know what a Governor General means? ? post independent Govt left the position of the Emperor still active. 1963 when Nigeria became a Republic, the position of the Emperor was renamed Governor General and given to Zik. Zik literary replaced the queen of England in Nigerian politics. Bros go and hide, your ignorance stink!! Someone who was instrumental to an independent Nigeria you ask what he contributed? Do you know how it feels for example the Govt of Cameroon to deduct your salary and allowance in form of tax and you cannot cough? That is what Zik saved you from, you cursed brain. Foremost nationalist? Say something else. Someone that the British saw merely as a nuisance does not deserve such appellation. Zik that the British had already caged long before independence is what you call foremost nationalist! A coward and a nuisance by your psychotic standard, yet the British abandoned a tax paying, resource laden empire for his sake and ran away right? Let me even assume for the sake of arguement that you are not a historic Nincompoop, A speech like this in the late 40's can land you in a gas chamber anywhere in Eastern Europe let alone Africa. Do you know the definition of treason in 1940? "Any action or thought that embarases the emperor" in this case the queen of England. Zik just incited his people to civil disobedience and self determination under the watch of the Emperor and you dare call him a coward? Do you know that as early as 1893, not saying "God bless the queen" can land your head on a spike? I don't expect an academically inept generation to know that. |

Volksfuhrer: Zik was a demagogue, whose fiery rhetorics were misconstrued by the British for substance. He needlessly attracted undue attention from the British to himself and so was marked for destruction.
The British were not handing over power to this man nor to any other southerner for that matter! At the end of the day Zik was found out as nothing more than an armchair activist, for he loathed any risk to personal injury! The British saw that weakness and exploited it to the max.
If Zik had been a much wiser nationalist, Nigeria would have developed more than this. The above speech for instance was lacking in wisdom and strategic thinking, even though it moved its listeners into a frenzy. This can only come from the sanguinary lips of an Ojukwuist. Personal Injury? what do you mean by that? Zik is towing the path of diplomacy, exactly 11yrs from this speech, Nigeria gained independence without firing a shot!! same for most countries of the world, so what is the "bodily harm" for? The British handing over to the north, does it signify that Tafawa Belewa or Ahmadu Bello was ready to take bodily harm? Most of you have serious erosion of cognitive reasoning. Zik was only trying to convince his people to support him to push for an independent Nigeria, he made them see objectively how the British hegemony isn't to their favor hence proffered a solution, by 1957, Zik has inaugurated the NCNC (National council of Nigerians and Cameroon) to drive his point home. Is that what you call arm chair critic? The ibos today are lacking serious direction in leadership, even a blind person can see that the PDP government was never in favour of the Ibos, their inability to allign with their interest today was what Zik bemoaned in 1949, was he wrong? ? Let us emphasize more on Personal injury, it was the wisdom of the likes of Zik and Nkrumah that saved Africa a lot of blood shed and positioned the compass of our beginning on a high moral pedestal you should be grateful for that. If you got your independence at the blood cost to the Americans, I am sure you will be more circumspect in spewing rubbish. If they were anything like Ojukwu, you and I will not be here, the British was a bigger and superior Enemy to the Nigerian Army. Our case would have been worse than Apartheid SA. With pen/wisdom, Zik brought down a Goliath, with Gun, Emperor Ojukwu's March to liberation was crushed. Learn from History. |

omonnakoda: You display ignorance of how the system works. There is a time table to which the senate works It is not possible to go through 109 bills in 4 years. So several and in fact MOST senators do not initiate bills there just is not that kind of time. Another thing is ooften the person who initiates a bill is not always the brain behind the bill for many reasons which you need to educate yourself about. e.g a SS senator may get a colleague from the NE to propose a bill on cleaning up Ogoniland. What is important is to understand the dynamics of why that might be happening
Initiating bills is just one thing they can do.
There are several other duties as well Even when bills are initiated they have to be debated and amended etc You suggest bills should be initiated for bills sake.?? Once again There are 109 senators Their only job is not to INITIATE bills. They sit in committees and perform other duties. If I have an interest in a specific bill as a senator and another person initiates it then am I to find another bill to initiate just to appear "busy No,I can contribute during the debate or by lobbying etc Can you mention the bills initiated by Ngige in 4yrs? You mentioned over sight function, can you explain why Ngige sitting as the deputy chairman, senate committee on power, one company is controlling 4 states with his not getting a single disco, can you tell us where Ngige was when such contraption was approved by Senate? |

omonnakoda: There are 109 senators we cannot have 109 bills every 4 years. At any rate over the last 16 years is there any bill we can associate with one individual. Our democracy has not matured to the level where there are effective tools to measure the impact of legislators objectively. e only tools available to constituents are crude and perhaps wrong like so called constituency projects and direct personal access i.e cash gifts or assistance with employment etc. When it comes to holding the executive to account the legislature has been disappointing you agree human beings initiate bills right? Even if it doesn't translate to a law, intiate the bill afterall we pay them good money for that right? |

Nationalism is a wrong economic model; Capitalism with government holding minor equity in the consortium for regulatory mandate has been the successful model globally. Then, if Capitalism is the way forward, who is a Capitalist ? Majorly private investors or foreign direct investors in JV partnership with local enterpreneurs. Good, that takes us to profiteering. The sole aim of doing business, for a capitalist is profit, and so, if the Government of Nigeria is paying subsidy, only a mad man will put his money where there is government subsidy cos at the end of the day, its like building a restaurant close to the welfare foodstamp place. Who wants to come and buy your food, when there is free good food served on the same location.
Listen, I didnt make money being ignorant, I didnt make money being emotional. I study every model and module and research before I make statements on this issue. Unless and until the Government stops subsidy, not even Dangote will start building refineries. Why should I build refinery in Nigeria under government subsidy when other countries are begging me to build it there and sell at higher price regime ?
