tete7000: Diesel is not the only derivative of crude oil and as such deregulating diesel alone won't bring needed investment into the refining industry. How can people refine and derive multiple products, sold one of those products in a competitive market while others are regulated? If we want investments in our refineries, we need to have a total deregulation. To say diesel didn't benefit at all from deregulation is far from truth. Diesel doesn't suffer regular scarcity as petrol and kerosene do. Although I wouldn't know if price of diesel responds to international price fluctuation as I am not a user of diesel but I expects it should. However for now it is going to be difficult for us to have diesel price drop yet as we still heavily depend on product importation and also because its importation is still somehow linked with importation of other products. Every year, Ignorant people like you make this argument, as the years roll by, it becomes clear how unrealistic your position is, who knows, I may have been ignorant at some point but what has changed now is the fact that I kept an open mind and talked to some people, played with them and understood what is going on, Joehunt is telling you the truth, you can either take it or leave it. [quote author=rolchi post=33272168]Boss,what is happening now? Are you not aware that government saw all the dire financial straits coming and wanted to re-position but Nigerians refused. Now, most state governors cannot pay salaries. Most IOCs saw this coming and have taken survival decisions and positions. Propaganda blinded our eyes and minds and now we are here. Sorry!! Govt did not see any "dire Financial straits" like you put it, they wanted to scam you big time but stake holders like fought against it, what the government wanted to achieve in 2012 was, steal subsidy meant for Nigerians, remove their hands, then use the same people to be collecting the subsidy from you the final consumer. It is wrong to say "remove" or "put" subsidy, the right question is; who pays?? Did state govs tell you they are owing because of subsidy? let me hold my laughter till I hear that first.
Whether lies or not then....now, our government cannot pay salaries. Subsidy MUST GO if the country must survive. GMB may stabilize oil prices all he wants, this will not help either because again, the traditional buyers of our crude are turning to cheaper source of energy and gas is inclusive. This means that demand is dropping...
You just have to face the reality.... ya, my advise to you is this; go and learn how it works in reality before allowing your emotions to get hold of you, any State gov who told you he is not paying salary because of subsidy is lying to you again.

I understand you perfectly i am only telling you indirectly that some of those questions are not relevant going by the way Nigeria operate. You dont need to know the cost of refining crude to know if it will attract subsidy, all you need to know is the source, your source determines if subsidy will be paid. From your first post your idea of subsidy is an offset of price parity between govt determined rate and landing cost for only imported products That was the lies jonathan sold to you guys in 2012, you held on to a lie and you are insisting to be given the refining cost to determine if there should be a parity that will attract subsidy.
Today, two aspects were opened to you
** FOREX parity ** Source of oil.

CFCfan: Whether the proposed amendments have the insignia of David Mark or not, it's a step in the right direction to reduce the enormous powers of the Nigerian president. But I agree that the NASS should have followed due process in passing the proposed amendments. Nd I believe the president shouldn't have to sign proposed amendments into law.
I would like to see amendments that will require the heads of the intelligence, military and security agencies to be confirmed by the Senate before taking up appointment into their posts. That way, the powers of an imperial presidency would be reduced. You dont get it do you? it is not about asking a local dog to stay away from shi!t, it is what you intend to do with the sh!!t that matters. Let me for the sake of argument agree with you that the presidential power should be reduced, who should keep it?
The National Assembly? bros!! do you know these people? I dont even know what my senatorial district is called let alone who occupies it. Most of them have their constituency office under lock and key unaccessible to the people they represent, they sit fat in Abuja waiting for the next election to return to their constituencies, most of them don't even have a single bill or vote in the direction of their people's interest, are they the people you wish to hold on to the executive powers in Nigeria?
With a straightened electoral system, a president can be removed, how do you intend to remove all the senators when the chips are down?
lastly,
Do you know that office of the Attorney general bifurcated from the Minister of justice by implication gives the Senate the sole power to remove the president. why I told you that mark has his fingers on it is because while the president was his friend and doling out enough bribes, influencing the PDP to zone the Senate presidency to his geopolitical zone, (never mind that PDP reserved that slot for the SE before now), he never saw the need to withdraw the presidential powers, immediately the opposition is in charge, he just wakes from coma!!

erico2k2: Take it easy on the guy bro, we are all learning .Anyway to place and argument in you stated reason above, I will say this,Import is a necessity weather valuing or devaluing one's economy, every developed nation import,so therefore I will like to refer to import as a constant not a variable,But Export would be a variable and not a constant when Import of certain goods is more than export of other goods, government round the world tend to stimulate the economy, one sure ways of doing this is to devalue the currency to checkmate the tide.Today china is the highest importer of Iron and steel plus Oil,we as Nigerians are importing machines yes and expertise and exporting less of what we have i n abundance,ie Raw materials which we cannot exhaust in our life time.Check costarica k now for exporting bananas, check teh Caribbeans the o nly thing they have to export is tourism, same as Egypt.SO if we have good governance, monitory policies,we have more than enough to earn us foreign exchange. We could do that with, cassava, carrots, rice, banana, ground nut, palm nuts/oil,fish,timber,leather,coal,butumem,rubber.coco,yam,Iron n steel, glass, tourism, textile, electric cables, the list goes on and on bro,if this good policies are adhered to,we wont even need to beg anybody to come and buy, market forces will drag them here as i n the case of china,I have to buy whole sale from china to get a business Visa I have to pay their ministry of foreign affairs $700 to get an invite from the government just imagine and its me who is doing the buying, however same stuff is made and sold in the Uk but its cheaper to buy from china as they have a lower currency. Take it easy? naa I am allergic to m0r0ns.
You seem to have an idea how it works but most of your examples are not quintessential to the subject. china is sufficiently reducing their dependence on foreign raw materials, the more you depend on foreign raw materials, a devalued currency will surely hurt your economy.
The advantage of a devalued currency is that it makes your products cheap to attract patronage, the reverse is the case when you devalue first then import the raw materials, the whole aim is defeated.
China depends on foreign oil to run her refineries with a devalued currency, petrol in China will never be cheap. |

I would also like it if you could provide information of the extent to which AGO pump head prices have declined in Nigeria since the global price of crude fell.
I would also like your comments on the rest of my post about costing of locally produced petroleum products. You have managed to ask the right question, AGO price will NEVER fall in Nigeria unless there is a drastic government intervention, this present govt will not intervene because they have already lied that removing subsidy will bring competition that will drive down the price. The sad news is this; THERE IS NO COMPETITION IN THE DOWNSTREAM SECTOR AT THAT LEVEL.
About the Global crude pricing, Nigeria has two major issues, a drop in crude prices and a devalued currency, both attract subsidies, now listen to okonjo iweala herself from the article we just read;
“Let me tell you, on the issue with oil marketers, we have been really working with them. We have been dialoguing with them. We paid them N350 billion in December. We paid them N31 billion as foreign exchange differential and by tomorrow (today), we will be paying them the N100 billion which we will give them as IOUs as well as their interest rate differential of N56 billion. if you understood this part of that article, you will realize that most of your questions have been answered. Why will you expect drop in crude price to affect the price of AGO when you just devalued your currency?? The Govt is not always stup!d, we as citizens should try to understand better what is going on in our country before trading blames.

What I have asked for is the cost profile of domestic/local drilling and refining - information which has suspiciously remained inaccessible to Nigerians for far too long. The current price of PMS at the pumphead is N87. If all costs of domestic/local production and refining plus a markup is less than N87, then where is the subsidy?

Few of those lies are; **Subsidy is paid on imported products ONLY whereas subsidy is equally paid on locally refined products. **The oil importers want the subsidy to stay (cabals) whereas the oil importers are praying daily for subsidy to be removed. **He lied that Nigerians are not benefitting from the subsidy (in the real sense, Nigerians living in places where Govt has failed were not benefitting eg SE. **He lied that if subsidy is removed, competition amongst importers will drive the price down. (AGO subsidy removal actually put him to shame on this one) ** He lied that building new refineries will end the import regimen, (we are still asking why those refineries were not built, guess he now knows what we know). ** He lied that individuals will never build refineries if subsidy is not removed. The question you should be asking is for the government to prove there is a subsidy on locally produced and refined petroleum products. Everything else turns on this question. If there is no subsidy on locally produced fuel there is absolutely no reason for routine, continuous importation of costly, dollar denominated refined petroleum products from other oil exporting countries. It makes absolutely no sense to do this.
Avoid repeating slogans or soundbites such as 'subsidy must go' without exploring and understanding the real issues behind them...or you unwittingly become an accomplice to those who have an agenda... assuming the app is 40mb of size. and the developer modify the app to add new features and remove or clean some bugs. and the new updated app is now 43mb of size.
the former which is 40mb is now useless when you update you are actually removing the 40mb old and downloading a fresh 43mb.
there are over 19 expired app on my phone currently at about 500mb of size.

well update is actually important it might be a virus threat or venerability of high risk. the issue here is you can minimize the app you keep. for example look at you r phone you will see that there are some app you have not touched for the past month absolutely not needed but you just refuse to let it go. You are absolutely wrong, when an APP is installed the full package goes in, the updates are usually less than the initial APP files. Nellizzy: Nigeria’s jihadist group, Boko Haram, is in Zimbabwe and could soon reach South Africa, reports the UK-based news outlet ZimEye, citing Zimbabwe’s national intelligence agency.
According to the Zimbabwean news website, the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) issued an intelligence report, warning that the Islamist militant group is in Zimbabwe en route to neighbouring South Africa.
ZimEye added that the South African intelligence service has alerted police officers in Zimbabwe’s Matebeleland region about Boko Haram’s intentions to infiltrate South Africa.
Other Zimbabwean media outlets have picked up the story. One outlet, Harare24, claims, “Officers were yesterday called for duty at around 9pm and are now temporarily stationed at selected police stations where they camp.”
iHarare reports that police spokespersons have not responded to a request for clarification on the original ZimEye report, and official statements from the government of Zimbabwe regarding Boko Haram’s potential presence in Zimbabwe do not appear to exist.
The Matebeleland region borders South Africa, where the jihadist group may seek to “carry out revenge attacks for the ill-treatment of several Nigerian nationals in the ongoing xenophobic attacks” that have left seven people dead and displaced thousands more from their homes, notes the news website.
Boko Haram released propaganda this month threatening to kill South Africans in retribution for the wave of xenophobic violence affecting Nigerians and others in that nation, though it was believed that Boko Haram members would find and kill South Africans in the areas where they operate: Northeast Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon.
Boko Haram reportedly released a video nearly two weeks ago urging South Africa to end the xenophobic attacks taking place within its borders.
Zimbabwe’s online news outlet iHarare reports that in the video, which has not yet been verified as authentic, Boko Haram warned that it would execute all South Africans in Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and other surrounding countries if the government of South Africa failed to contain the situation.
