Built2last:
I am not surprised at all, it has been at the heart of GEJ to remove subsidy...1/4 of our annual budget goes into subsidy the suffering is much but this may make GMB consider removing it more seriously.

I saw this coming because banks practically depend on diesel to operate.

We are headed for a total shutdown Once telcom and Banks shut down thats all.
We need banks and ATMs to get money to buy the fuel even if its black market.

We are in for a long thing. I know GMB will not pay any bloody marketer a dime. He will first scrutinise all documents before him, then, take best decision.

The common man will suffer this more.

Civil servants
Okada riders
Keke riders
Women who grind things in the market.

Let it be known to over 2millions nairalanders that I @Built2last support the removal of the Subsidy..GMB, please remove subsidy..fuel is so scarce that no body remembers that official price is 87 naira...abeg remove it..even my 3 year old son now knows the word subsidy...
Most banks use diesel, there is no subsidy on diesel, NUPENG is on strike, use ur fvcking head.

Savings....

Largely because I don't think the oil money we earned back then and even now is really enough for Nigeria....even minus corruption.

We have to develop an industrial society...so that we can have a strong financial basis for subsidies.

And it isn't a solution I love...but that's life.

Career › Re: How Access Bank Treated Us Unjustly by jpphilips(m): 6:08pm On May 21, 2015
rightthing276:
First of all, I want to start by saying I created this Account, just to remain annonymous for now.

My story

In May 2014, Access Bank started A Project called Project ART. The ART means Account Reactivation Team.

Access Bank recruited DSAs (Via various Out sourcing firms)from All over Nigeria with the job function of Reactivating and opening New Accounts. They made all sorts of promises to us which I would highlight below

The Bank said, We would be paid a basic salary of 40,000Naira. Every other extra earnings would come from incentives. The incentive structure was thus, if you open or reactivate an account and the customer takes an ATM card, you get 100 naira, if a customer subscribes for Mobile Banking, another 100 naira, if they subscribe for internet banking, Another 100 naira. Meaning, a DSA can make as much as 300 naira per account. So if I'm able to sign on like 1000 accounts in a month, I can make as much as 200,000 after gathering and counting my 100 Naira. This was really a good deal

The bank set the monthly target at 200 accounts and said, if you can achieve above 200 accounts, that's an A* (A star) grade for the month, if by 6 months, you get an A* in your appraisal, you will get an ipad and a recommendation letter for being outstanding and if by the end of one year, you get an A*

In your annual appraisal, you will be sent to Access bank training school and converted to a full staff of Access bank.
The MD of Access Bank himself, Herbert Wigwe, came out himself and addressed DSAs, highlighting and affirming all these promises, So we were to be sure that it wasn't another recruitment scam.

Hearing all these good news from the horse's mouth was really a spur and so there and then, a lot of us made up our minds to succeed.

So we started work and a lot of people hit and surpassed the targets, you should have seen the way my colleagues worked hard, opening accounts; I mean ALL kinds: Salary , students, regulars, co-operates etc. Some people even travelled outside Lagos to open accounts and get deals. It was that serious.

NB: The DSAs where placed under the supervision of full staff, each team had 10 DSAs and 3 proffessional staff. The structure was, The DSAs would source for the accounts and tag it to the MIS codes of the full staff, meaning, if I work, it would count for some one else in the bank, so basicaly, the full staff would just sit down and be pressing computer, inside AC,while the DSAs would do the Hustling.

Two months into the job, Access bank reduced the basic salary from 40 to 35,000 naira, giving reasons that it was a deduction for health insurance and till today, we did not sign any papers to that effect. Lots of people couldn't take it and so they resigned, infact, that was when the project started loosing core materials(human Assets).

Some people held on, for the hope ahead. By the 3rd month, lots of people were on A*, they met and surpassed the Target. So Access bank maybe did profit and loss and increased the target to 400 accounts a month.

This was the point where I feared my colleagues. There was this girl, Goodness from VI team, that girl is good! There were others like Otaigbe same VI team, there was Lara, Ikeja team, Mayowa too and there was this other born-again girl like that. I call this one Principality mehn! Her name Esther from Apapa team. I think by the end of the project, she was the over all best, I mean National best. I heard her grade was around 150%. That's like an A superstar. She was a game changer and I admired her secretly.

Meanwhile, the first set of incentives came in the 3rd month which was july, the second set came in September so you can imagine people feeding off on 35k for like two months. By the time the incentive started coming in, it was nothing to write home about: people were getting as low as 3000, 6000, 1500. Someone even got 100 naira as I heard. Customers where not funding the accounts immediately, others didn't want ATM cards.

By October, the 3rd set of incentive was suppose to be out and paid, that was were we got the bulkest of incentives since the beginning of the Project. At least, I saw mine was arround 31k but guess what? It has not been paid even as we speak! Since October 2014.

To cut a long story short, by December, Access bank called off the project. I guess the DSAs had fufilled the mission before the set time. So DSAs were put on hold till the verdict was announced on who and who would go to training school. By this time, a lot of people had left, some other waited but the bank wasn't communicating anything to the DSA and so others left too as they lost hope.

Most of these people who left were the real materials while most of those who remained were junks. When a DSA leaves, his work is divided amongst his other colleagues, meaning, if we are 10 and 5 leave, all there accounts would be shared to the thus boosting the grades of some of those junk heads who remained. So most of those left overs would then be having grades like D to C and before you know it A, even when they didn't really work for it. Just a few did work for it Like Principality, Goodness, Otaigbe, Kunle, Lara, Rotibi as I can remeber.

By March this year, the verdict was taken. The full staff had been graded and paid bonuses based on the works of the DSAs, and so the DSAs were expectant. Training school was sure for some even though the Ipad had not yet come and it was past six months.

Guess what the bank did, they reposted the DSAs left to a new team to continue as DSAs- no promotion, no training school, just imagine! No salary upgrade, same 35,000 niara, infact no communication on incentives too.

This is very painful and I'm using this medium to say "Dear Herbert Wigwe, dear Toba Olusola, dear Victor Otuokwu, this is not what you promised us". We feel used and dumped, you told us yourselves that we would be staffed and if you cannot fuffil your obligation to your first customer(your Staff), then I doubt if your second customers should take you seriously. This is an intergrity issue as well.

Some of my colleagues were sacked for stealing and suppressing cash, Access bank has stolen and suppressed over 8 months of our lives and I tag it an intergrity issue as well.

Yesterday, we heard that finally, the Ipad for the exceptional DSAs was ready and guess what, The bank has been disbursing them to those junk heads and has refused to give to those who stayed till the end of the project and also qualified for the Ipads before leaving, saying that provision was not made for those who left. This is so wrong, it is their hard work, Access bank was suppose to give them in October but didn't, why won't you give them the reward of their labour now? Its just like saying you won't pay someone who left your job an outstanding 3 months salary because they left

Dear Herbert, Dear Bolaji, this is another intergrity issue.

Please MODS, move this to the right Spot until appropraite decisions are taken.

Disclaimer: to all those whose names were mentioned, you never can tell, I may have just helped you communicate all you have been unable to say, I may have just helped you get your due reward so don't get angry but be hopeful for a blessing.
Sorry dear, Access bank does not owe you anything, a promise that wasn't contained in your employment letter signed and stamped, cannot pass for terms of agreement, Access is equally not liable for breach of contract because the employer may say he was drunk when he made such promise.

The reason you were sent to school, is to see beyond an Okada man, what you will get from an employer is what he signed in your employment letter and probably, terms and conditions of service, anything outside that is hog wash, if a Nigerian graduate doesn't know this, what exactly do you know?

On the integrity part, there are three major stakeholders in a bank, the shareholders, the staff and the customers.
The shareholders will be pleased that the MD thinks out of the box to scam gullible people like you to make money for them.

The staff are equally happy that slaves were conned to come and do their jobs for them.

The customers careless how the bank treat her workers so long as service delivery is not compromised.

The same thing Access bank did to you is the same thing the church does, the politicians, musicians who have no message in their songs yet we eulogise them as "stars".

taste the coffee, it is all around you, people are beginning to see there is a huge opportunity in preying on ignorant minds like yours, minds who torpedo ratiocination and embrace mirage, I lost hope in your ability to reason when you calculated that 200k from the wind.

Your petition is better off with the CBN not Nairaland, if the integrity part is your smear campaign, know that Access bank is already dead thanks to Sanusi's cluelessness like the saying goes; "he that is down, fears no fall"

Prof. Soludo warned us about this award last year, did we listen?
Soludo accused Iweala of falsifying our national statistics figures for "Vain glory" abroad.
Take a read below;

What worries me is that this government is the first in our history to attempt to manipulate our national statistics under Okonjo-Iweala. When NBS published the poverty figures in 2011, she felt indicted and incensed. She called upon the World Bank to come and examine the ‘methodology’ and get NBS to ‘review’ its numbers. Oby Ezekwesili (as VP Africa Region rejected the call to try to tamper with a country’s statistics). Once Oby left, the ‘World Bank’ started talking about ‘new figures’, without conducting any new surveys. I was told about it by a World Bank economist, and I cautioned that it was a dangerous gamble that would damage the credibility of the NBS. If you want to ‘review methodology’, you conduct another survey but you can’t change ‘methodology’ because you don’t like the published figures. No government in our history has tried it: even Sani Abacha allowed a poverty survey that put poverty at 67% under his regime. At this rate, who will believe statistics coming from the Nigerian government again? Is it now the World Bank that sits in Washington and allocates poverty numbers to Nigeria? Something smells here!
Now that you decide which economic statistics published by NBS to accept and which ones to ‘change the methodology’ to give favourable figures, you can keep feeding your manipulated figures to your international media circus for the vain glorious awards to sustain an empty hype, while Nigerians groan under hardship. We can actually ask Nigerians whether they are getting better off now contrary to your bogus figures.

It is obvious from Soludo's allegation that Yale has no idea what is happening in Nigeria save for the crap Iweala is feeding them, had jonathan's govt lasted any longer, It will get to a point where ADB,IMF, WOrld bank will turn their backs on us, thanks to Iweala who has painted a phantasmagoria of the Nigerian economic situation.

Well...the basic problem with the subsidy...the corruption if you will...is that people who import fuel are collecting money for fuel they are not importing.

They are doing it because they are not making profit with the subsidy. When the govt pays them their subsidy arreas...it usually does not give them much kudi at the end....so they take the cash.

GEJ did have the right idea trying to remove subsidy. The problem was that Nigerians, already suffering a lot...do not want subsidy gone...because really it is one of the few things we enjoy well well. But the truth is it has to go...not just with the corruption(see the kerosene subsidy thing)..but because we no longer have the money to subsidize thanks to oil prices falling.(That is what has changed between 2012...when the oil subsidy riots were at their peak...and today. Oil price fell...and our treasury got leaner.).

Which is why Buhari may remove subsidy. We no longer have the money to pay for the thing. Which means that we may have to either let the subsidy go.....or we pay higher prices elsewhere to keep our precious subsidy.
What makes you think that subsidy removal was a nice idea at the time?

Oga you took my statements out of context, The fastest way to get power to the people is micro-stations of 10 - 50 MW to be connected to gas pipeline later when they are completed. The grid will only be used to either receive or send power when their is a need or excess in local capacity. The national grid will still useful as it is to serve areas yet to have completed local power plants, albeit it needs to be expanded with proper framework and long term plan.
It doesnt matter what the grid will be used for, Nigeria cannot afford it, now move on!!

Again. You dont even understand your own link. They are very very correct. "Cold air contracts, becomes more dense, and thus heavier than warm air." Very correct.

The part that you will never ever understand is that fact applies to air at the same pressure. When you open your fridge, the cold air sinks to your feet because because it is denser/heavier than the warm air around it. But...the air pressure in your fridge and surroundings are the same, thats why that happens.

Air at very high altitude on the other hand is at a much lower pressure than at sea level. Hence it will not be denser than air at sea level, even though it is colder. I asked...why do jet liners need to be pressurized when flying at high altitude? The air there is much colder than air at sea level. So according to you, it must be denser than air at sea level. So why do they pressurized commercial jets? Can your mind even grasp that question?

I told you, you are out of your intellectual depth. This argument is not for you. You have no clue what you are talking about.
During weather forecast, air at high altitude is considered, yes or NO?

The national grid should never be abandoned or left as it is. There must be more investments in upgrading and extending it's reach. All the scattered power plants will eventually join the network so that excess power can be sold at peak and off-peak period. Why should the owner of a sleepy agricultural town with say a 10MW plant that needs not more than 2MW at night not be able to sell to larger 24-hour cities through and earn cool cash rather keep his plant earning from only 20% installed capacity at night?
Do you know how much it cost to do 5km standard grid that can carry 20,000MW of electricity, can you guess?
we dont need a national grid at this stage, development is one at a time, it is cheaper for ikeja GENCO to construct a 5,000MW grid over 30km to cover Ikeja alone than doing 20,000MW round the country, bros this matter na common sense naa!!
He already knows that Ikeja will never exceed 5,000MW in the next decade!!

@aresa
I am not promoting centralization. Simply because I asked that we don't decommission our grid doesn't mean I am asking for centralization. As I said, I can't think of a country that doesn't have some form of grid system. Maybe you can help me with some examples. What if something happens at gaslink and the gas supply to many of the turbines in Lagos goes down? I just used Osun as example but it looked like you are focusig on distance. But there are countless scenarios that can give rise to power shortage in any region. What is the point of having power in Mowe (Ogun state) and the people in Berger (Lagos state less than 50km from Mowe) for some reasons are staying in darkness or vise versa. In the same manner, what is the point of having excess power in Afam while the GENCo/DISCo in Abia struggles to meet the electricity demand of her citizens? What is the point in have excess power in Akwa Ibom while the GENCo/DISCo in Cross rivers struggles to meet the electricity demand of her citizens? What is the point in have excess power in Kaduna while the GENCo/DISCo in Zamfara struggles to meet the electricity demand of her citizens? The grid provides for flexibility as backup not as main form of distribution and guarantees extra revenue for those that can sell to others "in need". It covers these tiny "blind spot" here and there - i believe I have said this before.

The question then is, what happens if every jurisdiction is able to produce more power than is required in their various regions/localities? To answer that, I believe if Ghana had the audacity to nurse the intention to sell electricity to us, there shouldn't be anything preventing us from also selling electricity to neighboring countries. You can't do that without a grid. Ghana than wanted to sell electricity to us cannot be nursing that thought if all the have is island generating plants in Accra, Kumasi and co without an over-riding grid.
http://www.punchng.com/news/ghana-plans-to-export-electricity-to-nigeria/
The funny thing about you guys argument is that all of you are saying the same thing with different terminologies.
You cannot transmit power without a grid, so whether decentralized or not, there must be a grid, now the Osibanjo argument is; whether we need a National grid? the answer is no!!, how do we get electricity to those who cannot generate, first question to ask them is can you pay for it?
if the answer is yes, then they may link them to the closest grid, even if it spans across three states, it is still decentralized, and it cannot be confused for a national grid.

What happens during emergency? you dont need to keep portharcourt in darkness because you want to send their power to lagos cos a natural disaster affected their IPP, if there is an excess, then we can assume that the volume of it will determine whether it is cost effective to build a national grid for a contingency plan like that else, by all means, Lagos should use generators pending when the issue is fixed, the loss in revenue alone for the Power companies will keep them on their toes.

What gas infrastructure do we need? Everyday I curse Margaret Thatcher for proposing a DSO for gas in our PIB, most of you know how to complain but you guys lack the ability to forecast how govt policies will affect us, now, we are asking a question we should have asked Margaret thatcher since she started circulating that PIB sh!t!.

Margaret thatcher is proposing that we can only get gas by begging the IOC's to give us a specified amount for local consumption, there is no country in the world with proven gas reserves that can allow that crap!

The disadvantage is that Nigeria or individuals will never invest in gas infrastructure because there is free gas somewhere;
2) Gas infrastructures will not be maintained because it is free, nobody will take responsibility
3) Diversion will be encouraged, the Domestic gas issue is still fresh in our minds.

The IOC's have said we cannot give you free gas, they spent good money extracting it, tell NGC to invest in gas infrastructures to give you gas, just like NPDC can not give us local production capacity in oil because she has diverted most of their viable oil blocks, and we still expect refineries to work? if she is not begging for refineries, she is begging for gas, next she will start threatening the biggest FDI her economy depends on. When I ask where is the oil? nobody has ever answered that question.
Funny enough she thinks she is stepping on toes when in the real sense she is making a m@ss of the industry.

Back to the subject, we have a West african gas pipeline (WAPCO), a joint venture of 3 west african countries, that is how our gas gets to far away Accra to fire their power plant. I don't think there is a ny major city in Nigeria that has no Gas trunk line close to it, Just like OBJ planned it, all IPP must not be gas, people who are not close to gas trunk lines should use whatever means that is viable, it is up to the investing company to decide that not us.

You dont need to construct pipelines from Bayelsa to Ondo if Ondo has nothing to generate electricity with, all you need to do is a barred tee on a Lagos trunk line and you will have a shorter gas line distance to Ondo, its that simple, so dont worry about gas logistics, nobody is gonna ferry Gas in tankers grin grin grin

finally, the issue of sabotage is uncommon with gas lines, that was another area the PIB should have made sense but margaret thatcher is too dumb to solve any problem, this is what happens, most companies flow condensate in their trunk lines, due to leak or other OPS necessity, the said gas line will temporarily function as a multiphase means of transportation in a process called spiking, saving the company money from down time, over the years, it has become a problem in the industry and it is as dangerous as flaring.

The companies have moles and community employees who have their guys standing by in the bush, on that hour of multiphase flow, the boys are alerted and the pipeline is fvcked, there is no security contingency for multiphase operation in Nigeria, what stops the PIB from making it mandatory for ROW security during multiphase operations if we must?

If we stop Multiphase OPS in Nigeria, Nobody will go anywhere close to a gas pipeline.

Secondly, competing GENCOS sabotage their various competitors because most of their OPS limit are not even defined, that is where decentralization will come handy, if you are in charge of Akwaibom, you have no business going to sabotage Edo Genco, because you are not allowed to distribute there, other investors can come in to encourage competition but it must be, two or more GENCO in a DISCO, NO inter DISCO OPS, else we will have another minister crying about sabotage.

Whether IPP will work? that was the only Achilles heel to Obj's NIPP, realistically speaking, Nigeria can do about 15,000MW, that should serve half of the country 24/7 minimum.
Unfortunately, dumb senator chris Ngige, the Onwa of blind people who happened to be the deputy chairman senate committee on power, forgot that his only mission in Abuja as a senator was to throw his weight behind decentralization of power transmission, after sleeping for four years, he stup!dly came back to collect another ticket, thinking that his people (Nigerians by extension) are used to staying in darkness.
Thank god for sending that thunder wey fire am!!

Actually, I think the Nigerian government has better prospects at generating electric power from our untapped deposits of Bitumen belt in large quantities around Lagos, Ogun, Ondo and Edo states. Bitumen, I think, has better thermodynamic properties than coal because of its average particle size. As far as i am concerned, the Nigerian government has a large deposits/quantities of natural gas, uranium, bitumen and coal to jumpstart electricity production. We haven't even started mentioning geothermal options, solar power and hydroelectric options. Nigeria like the Republic of Congo, has more than enough natural resources to jumpstart Africa on a large scale!
Bitumen huh grin

All of them are gleefully taking pictures with Mr Blaire like my four year old will do with a father christmass. Nigerias political elite now needs British/western validation before they can feel comfortable in their skin! I don't know whether this is a sign of habitual inferiority complex or not but what has become very self evident is the fact that in their desperation to solidify the hausa-fulani/Yoruba political dominance in Nigeria, politicians from this part of the country have more or else smuggled Nigeria back into colonialism. . Unleashing a very anti nigerian brand of politicking that neglects the ordinary Nigerian while auctioning off this countrys economic assets to western multi nationals. We are more or else a colony my people. . , beholden to the whimps of our western overlords ably represented by some empty politicians always excited at the prospect of exchanging a handshake with any prominent western politician of 'note'. Zik of Africa must be spinning in his grave.
It only a kid that doesn't know that the fate of all nations is decided on the plate of the security council members with a veto.
Jonathan tried otherwise, see where it has landed him. Stop leasing your brain on credit, it is not worth it.

But what will power these numerous plants: fuel or gas. Fuel means a cobweb of pipelines, the eldorado of vandals, if it is gas then the risk around residential areas is better imagined. Trucking means gridlock and inefficiency especially when a plant may be drinking a truck an hour. There is a reason modern economies scale up. Efficiency rises with scale. How ever I agree that we can't start seeking efficiency.
You seem to lack the basic concept of what is dicussed

The grid system is simply the best, that is why it is used through out the whole world, it is cheaper, and when one power plant is undergoing maintenance, consumers will not even notice it . I remember what bayelsa state use to surfer in those days when they were not connected to the national grid.

Upon all the noise that the lagos have been making for 16yrs, they have only been able
To generate only 64mw despite the fact that billions of naira have been spent.

This system they are proposing for buhari is very expensive and consumers will not be able to pay. The cost of laying gas pipline alone will consume billions of naira
Can you show us the existing gas pipeline network in Lagos today?
