Try depositing your old notes tomorrow and see. Thats if the commercial banks are still open to collect deposits on weekends.

250M divided by 20k weekly limit can only cater to 12,500 people. Sterling Bank has 141 branches, that's about 88 customers per branch. Meanwhile, you have more than 100 people inside the bank and 150 at the ATMs.
That 250M It will dissolve within 20 mins.

So, 250M is nothing in banking and I stand by it. If you no gree, na you sabi.

CBN will not pay out the old notes to banks. It's been mopped up already. Where will you get the old notes from to use? How much old notes do you think is outside now when CBN claimed to have retrieved over 75% of it's target?

All these people celebrating don't know the issue is still lingering. If CBN doesn't print and release more new notes, doesn't allow banks to pay old notes, then the problem still remains. All the poor masses complaining in banks wouldn't have been doing that if they had old notes to spend because it still hasn't expired. The CBN has mopped up old notes from ordinary citizens. It's politicians that has most of the old notes still outside.

My concern is why aren't these people pushing for more new notes to be released into the economy. Why is their concern only about the old notes to continue being legal tender?

Banks would still not pay out old notes and except you've stocked up old notes at home, this is just a total waste of time, except CBN reverts and push old notes into the economy as the new notes printed isn't much. Cash shortage problem hasn't been addressed yet.

The order only states that the old notes shouldn't become ordinary paper by the deadline, but it hasn't addressed the issue of low cash supply. Most people have already deposited their old notes in banks and the order doesn't states that banks can pay out old notes. So everyone will still have to go to banks to get cash and the bank will only pay out new notes which is limited in supply. This judgement, except it's being modified, to allow commercial banks recirculate old notes, would only favour anyone who has stashed millions or billions of naira in a storage room, else we're still where we are, as the old notes hasn't yet expired and we're already facing problems because banks aren't allowed to push back old notes into the economy

Most legit Old cash are already in the bank. Only people who have stolen much and hid should be happy because CBN might still not allow banks pay out old notes.

There's a report yesterday, the ICPC found over ₦200M in a bank in Abuja, till now, Sterling Bank never clear the air on wetin happen actually and you feel the people will trust the bank?

That's a mother branch (CBN would never give 200M to any single branch because they didn't print much) responsible to distribute to other branches. Maybe the movement just came in and CBN being aware that they've not distributed it ( cash isn't just ordinary paper to banks that they'd be moving without logistics) quickly carried eye service surveillance. They've released the bank officials and I'm sure no sanction will happen. You know CBN, as apex bank would have been sanctioning banks by now if they're saying the truth.

The banks are kinda feeling somehow(scared maybe) to come online and show disagreement with CBN.

I've toured again this morning, the banks are still closed. I believe, banks have realized a subtle way of protesting against CBN.

You think it's easy for small commercial banks to be able to see the little given to them when it was stated that all initially must be loaded to ATM? If there was sharp practices happen, most of them is happening from CBN.

Let CBN go to court and prosecute the officers of the banks caught before you'd believe their social media nonsense. When did CBN/EFCC/ICPC start recording videos? They know the truth but they've successfully pushed the blame.

This issue of naira redesign is now a serious problem in the country as liquid cash is scarce.
CBN's initial aim is to reduce the cash flow in supply and encourage online transactions not minding the fact that it won't augur well as Nigeria is not yet fully developed in terms of literacy and network reliability.
The policy isn't working as planned but instead of facing the actual issue and agreeing that the mode of implementation is bad, CBN has gone on a jamboree, busting commercial banks and recording any new notes they see and uploading to the media all in a bid to shift blame to commercial banks. Those banks seen with high volumes of new notes are probably main branches whose responsibility is to distribute to other remote branches. Now that CBN has shifted the blame and the banks know they can't meet up, most of them are closing temporarily to avoid irate customers who think it's the commercial banks fault.
In Anyigba and Idah, Kogi state, all banks were closed yesterday due to unavailability of cash which the customers will think is their fault and destroy properties. I am also aware of some branches that closed in other locations to avoid the rage of people coming for cash.
This is not the first time nor the first country to redesign currency note, why is this time difficult?

I believe as days go by,more bank branches will temporary close except CBN comes up with something spectacular. What's helping is the few old notes still being spent by people. if by Friday people go to banks to deposit the old notes, they'd want to withdraw immediately and once the bank can't pay them, I foresee clashes.

This is my humble opinion, please seun, Lalasticlala and fpmoderator should help move to right section for more opinions.

I worked in bank for years and I operated Atm machines, what happened here is ‘ managing of cash so as to last long for specific period of time, those cash on strap are intentionally left that way so as to reserve for other days, these is practice whenever there is no sufficient atm loadable cash in the branch. Let CBN release more cash to branches

Even before this policy, how do some banks make ATM start paying during weekend after initial cash outtage when bank's vault is locked?

Cash is being warehoused either in the cassettes or ATM vault and loaded intermittently

Most people won't understand your comment Because they don't have ATM experience. It was probably warehoused to be loaded later because CBN isn't issuing much to banks, hence they'd load few intermittently to reduce total ATM downtime. They would still release the person.

Before anyone says rubbish....... doctors that want to practice in USA should go there for their studies if they can afford it not take advantage of the subsidized medical education in Nigeria and thereafter run away......Government subsidized it so many people can be trained to be useful to the country.
