Education / Re: Oba Of Benin Installed As Chancellor Of NOUN by JuanDeDios: 3:10pm On Apr 15 |
FreeStuffsNG:Actually, there was no lie. The Oba of Benin RARELY travels. This is still true - although the present Oba will definitely travel more than his ancestors because of the demands of modern times and given his cosmopolitan nature. The Oba rarely travels is what some Bini kids misconstrued as the Oba never travels, either out of sheer ignorance or in a misguided attempt to add mystique to their Oba. The kingdom never had a rule forbidden the Oba from leaving the palace. Even in the old days, he did leave. Long before the Internet came out, I saw the Oba (Erediawua) at a convocation, yet I knew the Oba rarely travelled. |
