Legit needs for dollar only or else, use Naira for your needs
What makes you think the banks have? Or they suddenly started printing dollars overnight and no one told me? Anyway, your answer is why black markets exist - but I doubt you see that.

I understand your concern about arbitrage.
I've had first hand experience with ppl involved and how damaging it is.

However, this floating has caused wahala for nearly everybody

So if we are going to pacify a few for the masses to be okay ..
So be it
But the masses won't be ok. I know people think it's floating that has brought hardship, but it's not.

Whatever you sell at BDC, transactions evidence must be sent to CBN
What now happens to people who need dollars but their needs can't be met by BDCs (whose operating capital is now 20k since they can only trade at the CBN-mandated rate)?

You've not been following up with the government's reforms. The BDC is being monitored now and only registered BDC will be able to sell dollars unlike before

These registered BDCs, what % of their $ for sale is coming from CBN? Or after selling the 20k each day (abi week!), they will close shop and go home?

Good, but why not N800?

That we still tolerate thousands of BDCs show me that CBN is yet to get serious.

They are even still allowing Nigerians to buy up to $10,000 per year for education abroad with Nigerian earned funds?

Any Nigerian public university has even charged up to $500 equivalent in Naira per year for tuition? Yet we say our academic institutions are dilapidated, but so eager to enable Nigerians freely move out money from our economy to aid academic infrastructure in foreign land.

Is that not enough proof to stop subsiding tertiary education in Nigeria and charge like N4m to N5m per session for post graduate courses while charging N2m to N3m for undergraduate courses per year.

Those who are brilliant but indigent would have scholarship schemes to exploit for their own tuition, while those who are not able to afford the fees and do not have the academic capacity to secure scholarship funding, can always take student loans and pay back over the initial 10years of their work career.

We never ready to be wicked and patriotic in this country to move forward.
@ bolded. Sebi floating (stop subsidizing $ for rich people) was meant to solve this problem, but you people have been fighting it?

The floating was necessary to get the real value of Naira since previous governments have been defending the naira. Now that they know the value, the next step is to force it down without spending ridiculous amount of money.
If it was knowing the real value of the naira, why intervene before the situation has finished playing out?

Won't work. You really think the 20k CBN is selling is enough? What of the $ not sourced from the CBN? I hope the CBN isn't serious about this because it'd amount to an abandonment of floating and a return to arbitrage, which enriches a few connected people.
Politics / Re: NLC Suspends 2-Day Nationwide Protest, Gives Reasons by JuanDeDios: 10:00pm On Feb 27
LegendHero:
Lol, all those who are in the business of sponsoring protests have seen that it is not business as usual during the period of Tinubu.

Tinubu strategically handled all items.

—SE: Normally, Peter Obi/PDP and his gangs of Obedient should have been at the forefront of the protest as opposition. But Tinubu played on their psyche. Prop some people up, then they believe joining protest mean they will be part of people complaining about hunger. So strategically, they are working for Tinubu without knowing. Just feed his ego, and an average Obidient lose his sense of reasoning. Even when parents are now killing kids because of extreme hunger in the SE, Obedients online still believe they are not hungry. What an irony.

—Northerners: In their usual game, they don’t have the moral authority to lead a protest because they know Buhari landed us in this mess and during that period, they failed to protest. So how do you sponsor violent protest when you don’t have the moral support?

—SW: Normally, SW don’t usually speak with one voice coz of 60/40 opposition divide and even if genuine people are protesting, Jagaban people also blended with the crowd and declared hunger and hardship induced by the polices of Tinubu. So when Yorubas themselves are speaking up against Tinubu and complaining of hunger, where is the moral support for opposition to lead a protest? How do you lead protest when the actual people you’re trying to fight against are leading it? So there is controlled protest strategically by same SW politicians to water down effect of any other protest in other part of the country.

—TUC and NLC: Jagaban just try to make sure no amount of protest embarked upon by these guys will carry weight. TUC president saw this and baba backed out of the protest and NLC Ajaero who is another Tinubu tool saw his protest failing on the very first day. An almighty NLC couldn’t even win the confidence of the workers anymore. Ajaero is toothless.

—Police: Usually police are always antagonist of protesters. But the rule play is different now. Police are actually the one cheering with the protesters and even going as far as joining them and providing snacks. So psychologically, the protesters see that the government is part of them. Even if they want to be furious, they will use this to give benefit of the doubt.

Now all this point to one thing. Nigerians believe in Tinubu and they have tried in giving him benefit of the doubt. It’s not like the man jazzed everybody, coz with the hard reforms he embarked on and the hardship that follows it at first, NO PRESIDENT can do this without NLC and opposition shutting the country down. ONLY Jagaban can do that and people will still be patient with him.

Lastly, Jagaban should ensure the promised minimum wage and other intervention come fast. This magic might not last long if people don’t see the promise fulfilled. He is so lucky to have even lasted this long with little nation rocking protest.

We should try and read attentively before running to the comment section. Based on what I read up there, I don't think the floating has really been reversed. So why are those people above me shouting floating upandown?
In a nutshell, the fx market has been extended to BDC again but it is specifically for eligible BDCs and the market can still be well monitored by the CBN.
You dey mind them. CBN is intervening in the market to increase dollar liquidity in a bid to prevent the rate from going up. That is different from fixing the rate. As long as they're not FIXING any rate, the market remains floated.

Family / Re: Beyond The Script: Unmasking The Magic Of Individualism by JuanDeDios: 7:08am On Feb 26

I think you should be careful not to fall for the trap of confusing contentment with stagnation. While conformity offers a pre-paved path, it can also become a dead-end road for the soul.

Think of it this way: imagine a world where every flower bloomed in the same shade of beige, chosen for its "universal appeal." Sure, it might seem aesthetically pleasing, but where's the vibrant tapestry of nature, the explosion of colors, the unique fragrance of each bloom? I understand that not everyone aspires to be a groundbreaking artist or a revolutionary thinker. But even within the realm of "average," there's a spectrum of possibilities. Why settle for a pre-written script when you can co-author your own narrative? As for the genius who claimed the world belongs to the average, I'd like to remind you that history remembers the outliers, the rule-breakers, the individuals who dared to paint outside the lines. They're the ones who pushed boundaries, challenged norms, and ultimately enriched the human experience for everyone, including those content within their comfort zones.

Now, I'm not suggesting everyone should abandon their comfort zones and become crusaders for change. But dismissing the value of individual expression and the pursuit of unconventional paths, especially under the guise of "majority rule," is a dangerous simplification. It not only ignores the potential for growth and innovation that lies outside the mainstream, but also inadvertently diminishes the very essence of what makes us human - our unique experiences, perspectives, and capacity for individual thought and action.
Hmm. They don’t care about history. He/she just wants to live. Of course, society needs the groundbreakers, the outliers. Without this 1% of us, everything would stagnate-therein lies their value. Without them, the collective would suffer and everyone, including the comfort-zoners, would eventually wither since our very continuous survival as a species sometimes depends on our ability to master our environment.

So, no, I wasn’t dismissing the value of pioneering. I was just saying that we must recognize that at the individual level the average guy is fine just being average. And it’s he who truly enjoys life. A genius could never be content just living. He’s never even content in his pioneering ways because there’s always more to discover, to create, to change. There’s some nuclear engine inside him that fires him to be more. He finds his own living in constantly engaging, constantly discovering. Satisfaction is not for him. Happiness is elusive for him. His is a lonely path. That is why the world, with all its beauty and glory, belongs to the average people. The world belongs to the average people is not in terms of being remembered. It’s in terms of being HAPPY.
Family / Re: Beyond The Script: Unmasking The Magic Of Individualism by JuanDeDios: 12:44pm On Feb 25
JessicaRabbit:

You are missing the point. Morality is not a fixed standard that everyone agrees on. It is a complex and dynamic concept that evolves with time, culture, and context. What is considered moral in one society may be immoral in another. What is considered moral today may be immoral tomorrow. Therefore, basing your authenticity on morality is a futile and limiting exercise. You are conforming to a set of rules that are arbitrary and subjective, not universal and objective.

Creativity is not the same as authenticity. Creativity is the ability to produce original and valuable ideas. Authenticity is the ability to express your true self, regardless of external pressures or expectations. Creativity can be influenced by morality, but it does not depend on it. Authenticity can be enhanced by creativity, but it does not require it. They are both valuable qualities, but they are not interchangeable.

Again, this is a gross oversimplification of a nuanced and multifaceted issue, ignoring the diversity and complexity of human nature. You are imposing a rigid and narrow framework on a fluid and expansive phenomenon. That, my dear, is the very definition of dogmatism.

What a beautiful and well expressed piece of nugget.
The question I often ponder on is... why does majority default fall into the chasm of herd mentality as everyone seem unable to break away from the trappings of the band wagon effect ?
Those who dare to be different or by nature of the true self don't know how to conform to societal dictate while adhering to a view that isn't populist.
Because most people just want to live. Some break out of the mould on their own. Some are forced out of it by circumstances.

Do you know why in a country of over 300 million, only an old man who can't remember things and another old man who's a horrible example of how to be a human being are in the race for the US presidency? Because most people don't want the wahala it entails to become and be president. They just want to live.
Family / Re: Beyond The Script: Unmasking The Magic Of Individualism by JuanDeDios: 12:30pm On Feb 25
JessicaRabbit:
This is something I've been pondering on for quite some time. So I guess I need to finally get it off my chest.

The human species has become disturbingly obsessed with blending in, following the script, finding comfort in the crowd etc. I believe this mentality of trying to enforce a collective harmony of thought across all individuals in a society is ultimately dangerous. Conformity, my friends, is a hydra of a beast. It sprouts heads of societal expectations, whispers of "supposed tos," and the poisonous sting of judgment. It tells women they must bloom in gardens of domesticity, men they must conquer mountains of machismo, and everyone else they must fit into pre-made boxes with labels that chafe.
Good post – as long as you recognise that you’re addressing a small minority of mankind, let’s call them the outliers. I mean, conformity, comfort zone, safe space – call it what you will – works for the majority of people. And they're often the ones who truly enjoy life. That's why a genius once said the world belongs to average people.

What will you have them do, OP? They may be Christians who claim to have "faith" in the divine and supernatural, but surely you don't expect them to anoint their iPhones with holy oil for better battery strength? What's Christianity without a tiny dose of hypocrisy? Got to abandon imaginary fantasies for reality once in a while. Tsk tsk.

Brothers and sisters in the lord, please plug in and let the spiritual amperes flow! Just remember, while your phone might be reaching 100%, your faith might still be stuck on "searching for signal". Hallelujah, indeed! 😁
