TravelRe: Ugly Experience With Australian Embassy by judebebo32: 7:49pm On Oct 19, 2018
I really don’t know much about Australian Immigration system. However here is my advice,
First I advice you reapply as soon as possible, get a recommendation letter from your prospective supervisor also support your application with explanation letter. In the letter explain why the program would improve your career and your plans after graduation. Also explain that your family members are in Nigeria as part of home ties. If the resumption deadline is passed, you can defer your admission before reapplying.
All the best

I arrived Edmonton international airport 18:30 local time August 23, 2017. Indeed it was a stressful day for me as I changed flight 3 times from Tallinn, Stockholm and Reykjavik airport respectively. I nearly missed my flight at Reykjavik airport where I was going to exit the Schengen Zone. The immigration officer had to verify my Schengen Resident permit which is still Valid for a couple of years.
At the POE I was not asked any question, the officer checked my passport and landing card then she asked me to go and collect my luggage and study permit. At the study permit collection section, The lady jokingly asked if I was going to work or study in Canada and how long I would be staying in Canada. People here are quite polite and friendly at least for someone that has lived in Europe for a couple of years and visited almost all Schengen countries. I can spot the disparity in the way people interact with each other here.
Thanks to everyone on this forum, Mazuide and co hope to see you some day.
My flight to Saskatoon has been delayed still chilling at the airport. To those still awaiting approval, I pray you get that success mail ASAP.

Good day My people in the house , I have been a silent follower of this thread for a while now, please I need your advice on admission issues, I applied to university of manitoba in March against winter 2018, I submitted all documents and since may my application has been under review in the department, I contacted the faculty of graduate studies in July and I was told my application received a favorable review that I need an advisor, that my application will be on table till December and if I didn't find an advisor by then that my application will be discarded. I have contacted almost all the advisors in the department but they keep saying they are not taking student now, what can I do. I finished with a second class upper 3.77 and study nutrition and dietetics. Please who knows universities that studies nutrition or food
science as masters and doesn't require an advisor, that is a course-based masters in nutrition or food science. Wetin my eye Don see concerning advisor no b small thing. Please help me out with your advice.
I understand your plight but I would advice you to keep trying, In addition always remember the following point when you sent out email to a prospective supervisor.
1) keep it short. no more than a single page. Professors read hundreds of these, and they have a ton of other things to do, so don't ramble
2) start with stating that you are applying for PhD positions and are interested in working with them. If, at this point, the professor is not interested (e.g. they have no money or space), they can just tell you so and skip the rest of the email.
3) introduce yourself with at most 2 sentences, don't go on and on about how awesome you are, but you do want them to know where you are coming from e.g. "I am a senior at XX university, and have been doing research in YY field under ZZ professor".
4) show that you know what the professor does (i.e. cite his/her papers, stuff from their website)
5) show that your knowledge / experience / interests dovetail with his/her research. Don't start proposing projects here yet (that is for later emails / phone conversations), just a few sentences that you have been working in the field for a while, or have done projects for classes that inspired you to go into this field, and that you have research experience.
6) ask whether the professor would be interested in considering you for a PhD position in their group, and thank them for their time.

AGAIN, NO MORE THAN ONE PAGE.( Adapted from Sandeep.V. Post on quota)
All the best.

please How did you process your student visa Sir. AM also planning to apply via poland .

Submitted online Apri 28 , 2017 , PhD University of Saskatchewan
No medical
No interview
Biometrics May 04, 2017,
Passport request May 05, 2017
Passport received May 10, 2017
Approved May 10, 2017

Thanks to everyone
I applied from Poland.

I almost gave up about studying in Canada because I had stories about challenges applying outside Nigeria but someone in this forum encouraged me, even when I find it difficult to provide a good SOA. All I provided was my retired dad's statement with just 500k. Though the PhD is funded but just approximately 17CAD per year.
To those still awaiting approval never give up, I would also help with prayers am also available to help review SOP, this would reduce the burden placed on the gurus in the thread.
I applied online, followed all necessary recommendations I received from Nairaland. And my SOP equally helped. Thanks to Mazi for reviewing my SOP.

TravelRe: What Should I Do Next?, Says A Phd Student Wanting To Travel Out by judebebo32: 9:20am On Jul 31, 2017
My candid advice, start looking for post doct position abroad. With your PhD and work experience you have an extra edge. Just search for schools and research institute that are working on your specialisation. yiu can check out Germany, Estonia, Hong Kong and Canada.

Thanks for the info flexisafsupport.

Like I asked earlier, is there a possibility of conducting this interview via a video conference/call, say over skype or any other similar medium, for applicants who are not presently in Nigeria. Since it's an interview, it can be completely done over video call and still have same outcome.

Also, if you are a PhD applicant who is currently not in the country and who wouldn't mind doing this interview via Video call, Stone123 suggested we maybe try getting across to the PTDF officials and make a case for a video call, instead of having to travel down to Nigeria. The suggestion was to do this as a group though. Incase you are interested, you can please message me or simply send an email to idearules01@gmail.com

Thank you.
Got the PhD invite too but not in Nigeria currently.

Hey Jude, am surprised to hear that you came to Estonia with Schengen visa issued by Finland. I called our univ. study abroad center and I was told it is not possible. I shared part of our conversation here. But when you applied for the visa, did you indicate that your purpose of applying was to study in Estonia?
Basically it's a tourist visa. If I had told them I was going to study I would have been denied.
We are all here to help each other.
Btw thanks.

That is not true. Read their response again. They said you cannot use schegen visa for another country to travel to Estonia for study.
Mr know all you should get your facts right before arguing.
You can enter Estonia with any schengen visa and apply for resident permit in Estonia (Valid for masters and PhD studies). If you must know I am currently in Estonia and I travelled with a Schengen visa issued from Finland.

Good morning guys,

I have applied for my second masters in Applied Heath Services Research in University of New Brunswick. I had my first masters in forensic psychology and I did my undergraduate in Psychology.

The problems are:
1) I haven't heard from the univeristy as to the outcome of my application.
2) will doing a second masters raise a red fly? (I mean in terms of visa application, if I happen to get the admission by the grace of God)
Note: I applied for a second masters because my first masters was just for one year, and some schools I applied for a PhD rejected me, because they didn't consider my one year masters deeply research-intensive.
Why Applied Heath Services Research? You may ask. , I have been doing some voluntary work (through my NYSC CDS group) in a health related sector, so I developed interest and decided to apply for the course. Also I feel it's related to psychology somehow grin I mean, psychology deals with human behaviour and mental health, then health services research deals with an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare, mental health and community health. Ok I'm talking too much.
If you can explain with a good SOP then the VO might consider you. Btw I know it's quite difficult to get PhD admission with one year masters degree, however I would also advice you to spend more time developing yourself, try and partner with a professor in Nigeria to get a paper published. Read more about researchers in your chosen field before contacting them. I don't think one year masters is a problem, if you have a good research record you stand a chance of getting PhD offer.
All the best bro.

Bro. Can I send you a PM. Or maybe you can just answer my questions here.

I'm a Masters Student in Germany. But I have eyes on applying to UBC for PhD. Given the high profile of the universities involved in my joint program, I believe there is a high chance of getting admitted. They have a faculty dedicated to my specialization with quite a long list of professors and I also checked the UBC student list and they have high numbers of Erasmus Mundus alumni.

But my problem is, applying in the last semester of my Masters program. Do you think it's possible to get admitted while in the last semester and writing your Masters thesis? Was that how you did yours? and how did you package your application documents?

I would appreciate tips on how to be convincing without having yet a thesis grade.
I suggest you visit the thread below and post your questions there, i would answer you there. Please dont PM me

Hello house, you guys are doing a wonderful job. Please i need advice on the course to apply for; I studied Agriculture(Animal science),graduated in 2004. However i have been working in a bank since 2006 till date. Do i apply for a masters in Agriculture or banking/finance? If i apply for a finance/banking related course, how do i justify it on my SOP?

Kindly assist.

Thank you
I would suggest you apply for masters in Banking/finance related course, all you have to do is to explain why you decided to switch from Bachelors in Animal science to work in a bank. I think the VO would fancy Masters in Banking/Finance as a route to career progression.
