@epain I would adviseyou to learn ASP.NET 2.0 but the c# version instead of the vb.Net, dont know what the Nigeria Market requires, but in UK you are much likely to be employed for your c# skills rather than VB.Net. Still dont know whether Microsoft wants us all to be using ASP.NEt instead of PHP, for providing free IDE in as in the visual studio exprerss edition. you can download it free of charge from : http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/express/aa974185.aspx After downloading the free ide, I urge to register as Microsoft would give you access to some good ebooks, that would support your learning of ASP.Net There are also training videos you can download for free, starting from the basic to advance training, instead of paying for videos download it for free at: http://www.asp.net/learn/ I would also recommend that you use the web development kit as well. |
@Jackelony the question is not which database, the question you should be asking yourself is which programming language are u looking into. PHP, ASP, ASP.Net, Coldfusion. After deciding what language you are going to program in you can then decided which database to use. For PHP you are better off going for mySQL For ASp, ASP.Net you are better off going for Access, MSSQL, Oracle I am currently use dreamweaver to code an ASP based site using Access database, but at the end of the day, the database structure and set up is done with the RDMS(Relational database Management System) and not within dreamweaver Just in case you are thinking of using ASP.Net, I recommend you download the free version of visual studio express edition from microsoft msdn website. thanks for your help |
can some tell me or point me to a lin that illustrates how websites are able to insert their logo in the address section of a web browser. Example of this include: the naira logo appearing before the http://www.nairaland.com the ebay logo appearing before the http://ebay.co.uk many thanks in advance |
Why dont you incorporate conference calls using packages like skype, msn, yahoo, macromedia breeze, etc so that people based abroad can join in. Sounds interesting and I would be looking forward to join, but I am based abroad. Email: olulakun@gmail.com |
@ kpizzle Please kill the animation on your home page. Its driving me insane |
@ poster You dont need a key if I am correct. It is a free software. just register, you dont need to syupply microsoft the right informaition either. I repeat you dont need any key, just register it with microsoft |
I am sorry but why would you be using Vista when Microsoft XP is still the best OS from Microsoft in ages. May be in 5 - 7 years time this topic might be useful. |
@ poster Guess you did step on a lot of peoples toes, but just becuase you are now based in damn south Africa does not give you the right to start slagging Nigerians that are struggling to make a leaving off, you are killing them more than helping them. I am based in the UK, yes flash site is ok here but lets face it, wont you rather create a site using XHTML, CSS and AJAX technology webistes than creating heavy Flash sites?. I must say that I some how agree with you(cant belief just wrote that), my passport ran out some few weeks back and I decided to go unto the Nigeria consulate Embassy in UK website, and I must confess it was a disgrace, my dog could have desgined a better site. I was so pissed I called the consulate and spoke to the man in charge, and begged him to allow me to re-design the website for free, but he was ignorant and said they have employees that are employed to design and maintain the site. With regards to heavy flashy site, I really dont know how flash sites are going to hold in the next generation of web 2.0. rather than slag Nigerians off, may be you can create tutorials (videos) that teach people about web design, and off course it would be waste if there are no computers, software and so on to use for the practice. I must confess its a complex situation, it must start from the top. |
@ Kemjisuper Thanks for the link you provided, you are simply a legend |
@ rodent The design source does not have to be based in Nigeria, but you were right cost was an issue and I just thought I give someone else a chance as the work would be based for a UK client(s) Where are u based and I can see some of your work |
Call me ignorant, but I dont seem to understand what the problem is. I have gone out in the past with people even 12 years older than me and we respected each other, I think the mentality that what the family would think about it is crazy. Older women not only show a good time, the added benefits of the fact that are proud and ok with thier body is a great relief, there isn't that stupid question of do I look fat (which younger girls are bothered about). I think you should get on with it, the families wont be there forever you know! |
I need someone that can create logo/graphics for me please. Currently have loads of web design projects, and graphic design is not best quality and I thought I give another person the chance. It is a freelance project type job, i.e whenever I get a project and need logo/graphics you would be responsible for it I would own all the copyright to the logo/graphics produced (not negotiable) You must be able to render the graphics in web supported formats, such as jpeg, png, gif, animated gif, etc I am hoping to find someone that is not only good at logo design but would also be willing to work with me on a long time scale as I have a big project in mind I cant really specify the software or skills required but showing me your previous work would help The person must also be intelligent enough to take the slightest brief am able to supply and produce the right product Online communication is very crucial, as I am not currently based in Nigeria at this instance I am not looking for time waster please. Your fees must also be reasonable I would be willing to give you credits whenever possible (as it gives you the chance to expand and sell yourself as well) I have a clean heart and I hope who ever is interested is also God fearing, hardworking and able to deliver the service on time Please email me or leave your contact details below. My email is: olulakun@gmail.com Many thanks in advance |
I have been hearing of the google adsense/google keyword on a website, can someone tell me an average income that can be generated from this type of venture. |
its what you actually want to do with after that matters. For example to want to spend millions of niara studying aborad and starting your company after that, or work for some company that wont value your academic experience. |
I hope the getting together can result in us developing an application we can use to better the world, and if possible make money |
Ever across youtube.com? Well I need any body interested in developing such a project. I want to use it for two things. Get in touch with me if you are interested in helping. It would be a joint venture the right person. If you are based in the UK even better You must have some knowledge of XHTML and CSS. FLASH skill is an advantage Serious and interested parties only. my email address is juintade@hotmail.com |
came across your site through google |
Any nairaland member in the UK? |
I was paticularly impressed with the flash site, but why not make the following changes to it: 1. Put a text that allows the user to skip the navigation (such as'skip intro') 2. The designer of the flsh site should publish the site to user pixel site, by setting the size to (100 x 100) percent. I am using a big screen monitor, but the site looks small Impressive and sleek are the the two words to describe the flash site. |
It always annoy me when people design site such as yours. It annoys me so much that if not because I have other web projects ate the moment, I would probably have re-designed it for you. Please delete of the internet |
If you did design the flash (.swf) yourself, use flash to publish the HTML file itself. It should work then. If you dont have flash, you can get a try ot version from adobe.com |
nice initiative |
Let me start by saying it is nice, but my suggestions/quesries are as follow: 1. Change the image named banner.gif into a JPEG format. I can actually see some degrading of the picture because it is a gif. GIF is meant for scanned images and JPEG is better for images such as that of your banner. 2. Why not center align the website. I am currently using a widescreen computer at the moment and the site being aligned to the left makes it look small. 3. I assume your site is an aution site, right? But first rule of site design is that the user should know what the site is all about at an instance. Hence but a catch phrase (such as the 'online your online auction portal' or some thing along that line) 4. Before you launch the site, whay dont you think about changing the name to something more good, the name sounds a bit cheesy and long (But the other thing it might work for some others) 5. Make use of the extra space by having a feature product(s). 6. The green background(may be it is re-enforce the Nigeria theme), but to be honest it does not make the page to be balanced. Repost the site when it is almost done. Good luck and best of luck. I would also like to know what technology is drives the site |
Web application is the next big thing. I would advice you to get access to a server (WAMP server is good), and do server side scripting. AJAX(Asynchronous Javascript and XML) is the upcoming language, in great demand. It is catching up in the UK, and it wont take much time to take off in Nigeria. To understand AJAX you need to know a thing or three about JavaScript(not JAVA) and XML Why AJAX? read about it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_(programming) Why wampserver? Because it is free, and it consist of APACHE server (the most widely used server on the internet), MySQL(database) and PHP(one of the most widely used server scripting language) where can I download the server from? http://www.wampserver.com/en/ Knowledge needed to start learning this scripting language? HTML (XHTML recommended) XML JavaScript other programmes needed? Web browser (IE7, Mozilla Firefox reommended) Notepad (or other text editor) other useful links http://w3schools.com/ajax/default.asp http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ Site that has used AJAX? http://www.netvibes.com/ (play around with this site to gain better understanding) http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en (try and search for a word) I hope it helps, best of luck and send me your first AJAX site.
