rvp2018: You don't get it. The interest capping bill was very popular - because banks (like everywhere) were charging people Ghana like interest - well not exactly that bad - but sometimes 20% -
Now gov has attempted to repeal this without success.
There was a court case too - and eventually, Supreme Bank ruled it unconstitutional for interfering with Central Bank's independent mandate to set monetary policies.
So in 2019 - Gov brought in amendments as part of the budget/financial bill amendment.
Mps rejected it - and it went to the president - and the president vetoed the financial bill - and it was brought to parliament.
For parliament to overturn the president vetoe of any bill - they need 2/3 of parliament.
They failed in one controversial voting where gov basically used all tricks - and president vetoe won - interest capping was repealed.
It was not going to be easy to repeal such a popular law.
rvp2018: See what. It's now a about 8 months - and with COVID - it will take some time before our banking sector recover enough to lend - so this year is no good for real estate.
The Finance Bill, 2019 was signed into law on 7th November 2019, repealing section 33B of the Banking Act which provided for the capping of interest rates at 4.0% above the Central Bank Rate, pursuant to the failure of the National Assembly to raise a two-thirds majority to overturn President Uhuru Kenyatta's
so basically it hasn't been repealed because your national Assembly could not raise a 2/3rd majority to overturn it.
rvp2018: But Thika road was not completed in 2016 . It was completed in 2012. Cement consumption went down when Kenya introduced interest rate capping for loans. That leads to banks refusing to lend to real estate sector...because it too risky to lend to them at 13%.
Obviously, this is greek for you - in Nigeria - you're borrowing bank loans at 30%.
when we said this last year about your interest rate cap, You said i was a lie.
rvp2018: You are still insisting that hydraulic cement is not another name for portland cement . The only reason they are not calling portland is because in the developed world - they are rarely sold in 50kg bags like Ghana or Kenya - but most as pre-mix - the cement companies sell either concrete or mortar - they do the mixing at factory.
Back to GHANA cement consumption.
As of 2016 - US estimates you were doing 4M metric tonnes. In 2019 my own calculation came to around 5.1M tonnes.
Kenya has solid data lasting from 1963 to the highest precision.
soon we will have 2017, 2018 and 2019 data....
Otherwise cement consumption would show up in Accra or Kumasi or TEMA...there is nothing there.
when only 22% of Ghanaians live in rented housing(37% of Accra resident) while 57.4% of Ghanaians own their own homes(40.4% in Accra) while another 20.5% live rent-free (19.5% for Ghana). The remaining 1.6% of housing is employer-provided (4.5% for Ghana).
Their lies will always be exposed.
68816419: These guys are the worst lairs in the whole of Africa, their cement consumption kept dropping like a waterfall ever since that Thika road was completed, No wonder 90 per cent of residents are living in rented houses and the number of slums dwellers kept rising .
Shma: your data is suspicious, and if your stats are true, you can as well check other years, while we were progressing you were still dreaming of implementing Nairobi of 1980 as your vision 2050, we have so far gone beyond your cement consumption rate going by the years we have been to this game. It's now your turn to progress,.
up to you boy
It is not my data but the industry data.
ofcourse there are other stats, it is all available there.
when Kenya was progressing which is before 2016, consumption was between 6.2 to 6.7MT.
Now that kenya is not progressing, it did 5.49MT in 2017 and 5.9mt in 2018
Kenyans cant afford to build good homes to raise their country cement consumption because they cant afford land prices. They cant also afford good housing to rent because their housing market was developed for the repatriate market and tourist.
02 July 2019 Kenya: Data from the Kenya Bureau of Statistics shows that cement production fell by 6% year-on-year to 1.46Mt in the first quarter of 2019 from 1.55Mt in the same period in 2018. Cement consumption dropped by 3% to 1.46Mt from 1.50Mt. Cement consumption previously grew by 2.8% year-on-year to 5.9Mt in 2018 from 5.8Mt in 2017. However, production fell by 2.6% to 6.07Mt from 6.23Mt. Imports increased by around 50% to 23,000t but exports decreased by 63% to 0.14Mt from 0.39Mt, mainly due to a major drop in deliveries to Uganda and Tanzania.
sorry boy it is not a 2020 report else they would have gotten their figures right on production of cement in Ghana which is 12Mt
If you want cement news of any country, go to Cement global.
next disgrace of Kenyans and their fights against simple facts.
https://www.globalcement.com/news/itemlist/tag/Ghana?start=20 26 January 2018 Ghana: Cement producers are lobbying the government to build new roads using concrete in order to use surplus cement. The country has a production capacity of 12Mt/yr but it only uses 8Mt/yr, according to Citi Business. The producers are calling on the president to make good on a previous statement on the matter.
https://www.globalcement.com/news/item/9251-cement-manufacturers-association-of-ghana-lobbies-government-on-imports Ghana: The Cement Manufacturers Association of Ghana (CMAG) and representatives of other industries including steel and food have petitioned the Ghana International Trade Commission to protect them from ‘unfair’ trade practices. They have asked the government to follow World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules and match export rebates with additional tariffs, according to the Ghanaian Times newspaper. CMAG secretary said that the local cement industry had a production capacity of 11.6Mt/yr and that this was enough to meet local demand.
let me know when you finish your reeducation process which started a long time ago
such empty heads from Kenya.
so as you can see
we consumes 10 million metric tonnes out of our 12MT production whiles you guys are still doing just 5mt in Kenya in 2019
Same way we consume 7mt in 2016 while you guys were still doing 5mt.
rvp2018: Okay, you're making progress. Now try these magic words. I am sorry I didn't know that the cement I normally buy is hydraulic. Neither did I know its called Portland. I only know it as cement.
Let get back to Kenya whipping Ghana on cement consumption and production.
So far we ended in 2016 is estimated to have produced 4m metric tonnes against Kenya verified 6.7M tonnes.
Ethiopia rose to reach 8.3M - a testament to their development on steroids.
rvp2018: It easy. Just admit you didn't know. And we move on to interesting debates. I know when you come from little Nigeria and all your life you're looked down upon by bigger countries; admitting a mistake is very hard.
Hydraulic cement=portland cement= common cement you buy from the hardware.
Just get the teaching for your re education today
The hydraulic cement that your website is talking and Ordinary Portland Cement have different compositions and different uses in the same industry.
rvp2018: Yes the world is producing a lot of cement to fix leakages; you're insane. Hydraulic cement is scientific name for Portland Cement that you buy from your hardware in 50Kg bags.
The simple fact that you dont know hydraulic cement makes you such a dumb dumb to not have a cement discussion again
Let me know when you finally get the understanding
you are slow.
rvp2018: Please grasscutter. That is clearly a new low. Actually on saturday I was buying that cement - Dr Fix it - because I had a leak in one of the house. It's water proof mix that you add to cement. THAT IS NOT HYDRAULIC.
And if it was World is producing a lot of this cement that is so special - a lot of LEAKAGES I TELL YOU
The cement you know is Portland cement - as per 18th-century British patent - and is the type of hydraulic cement.
Non-hydraulic cement is lime - if you check old buildings in your slave castles - they will have use non-hydraulic cement.
rvp2018: The data is from the very credible USG - not Grasscutter FM. So why are you angry now? I can tell you they have Kenya figures very right. Ghana they have to estimate...but USG are thorough so don't think these are wild guestimates.
rvp2018: Credible data from USG is killing you. I am going to get credible data for 2017, 2018 and 2019. And you'll be so dead. I think now you're now even 5m metric tonnes.
did you see what they wrote on what you posted?
they said Hydraulic Cement
You can ask for free education from any engineer here or better still, the internet is a free tool.
see another dumb dumb who doesnt know hydraulic cement
Shma: Oooh, we have bigger cement consumption, oooh, we have longest tarred roads than you, oooh, we are more developed than you. Now see the trend. We have tripled their cement consumption since 1997. That is Grossly 6years down the line. I bet 2013-2019 stats will do the same. They always engage in aimless ranting with nothing to back up their claims. No wander things are different on ground .
rvp2018: Beyond your paygrade. Portland cement-like is common in Africa another name is hydraulic cement. Non-hydraulic cement is lime - and it's usage is very limited. It was used in centuries that passed - in very old buildings.
So hydraulic cement is the cement you know.
will you shut up dumb dumb and take the free education.
Hydraulic cement is a different kind of cement.
You cant even use it for concrete works.
It is a cement that you only add water to and apply unto concrete surfaces to avoid water leakage.
rvp2018: Tell us Ghana cement production and consumption from 2000 to 2020. I can provide Kenya's. Credible Data. If you cannot even produce data - you're just a mini Nigeria that cannot afford a census.
we have gone over this before.
between 2000 and 2010, Ghana cement consumption remain constant at 5 to 5.7million metric tonnes. production were sometimes below consumption and import were carried out.
Since then to now
Production stands at 12 million metric tonnes and consumption at 10 million metric tonnes Ghana per capita consumption is now 333.33kg as at 2019
