Shma: I think we can put it as the rate at which a country is developing not how developed a country is basing on cement consumption. and as a matter of facts that is not the only indicator for measuring development, their are a number of things; retail sector, HDI, skyscrapers, wealth, infrastructure(roads, buildings, social amenities...) ... e.t.c but someone can't just wake up and say Kenya is underdeveloped basing on cement consumption.. Ghana of all the countries !!! This is a joke indeed all infrastructures depend on cement |

mtisTheQubit: Bro explain to me something..why is your minimum wage so low $1.95 a day...Kenya is almost $6...Should that not reflect on the progress of a country.. Second your country is dang Expensive to live...Where do folks get the money to survive if they are paid peanuts man... The minimum wage is something the Ghanaians need to push politicians on for them to place it where it belongs In Practise, the minimum wage is around 700 cedis. That is the lowest values that most employers pay people with no skills at all. But since most Ghanaians are paid more than twice that value, we really don't have a problem. Masons, painters, gardeners, cleaners and etc people who are paid base on minimum wages receive more than the minimum wage. all those people receive 70 cedis or more as their daily wage. |

rvp2018: All British colonies are like that..most Kenyans go through very rough boarding school.. although now they are tame ..our time bullying was nearly legal. In Ghana you have never really gone to high school until you have lived in the boarding house. This is one of the reasons why politics in Ghana is like friendly fire because almost everyone engage in it have one way or the other either been in the same secondary school or been on different rival halls in the university. |

rvp2018: You seriously think Dangote would just throw money to Ghana without the basic of industry stats? You think they don't have such figure on fingertip so they know their market penetration.Jesus. Dangote was eager to enter the Ghanaian market and profit from the 1 million deficit in Ghana such that he didnt do proper research to know that the cement market in Ghana was all about brands that have become household names. By the time he entered, 5million new production was already on it way. In 2016, Ghana consumption was already 6.4 million metric tonnes |

rvp2018: So the economy had collapsed, eurobond interest was hammering Ghana, credit rating agencies downgrading her debts , cedis getting a battering and IMF on Ghana neck ...and all over sudden let's rebase again..just 5yrs after 60% GDP jump..we get another 25%.Look suspicious to me. the telecommunication sector that employs 1 million people is huge enough to cause a 25% jump nothing suspicious here we may have another 50% jump should the economy be rebased today capturing the other sectors of the economy and adding mobile money to the telecommunication sector. |

rvp2018: It started from 10m..then 5m then 8m..the Dangote said 6m.I am going with Dangote because he is an industry player and won't put any thrash in his audited results.6M is good because Kenya does around that with 20m more people. you are making too much noise the cement consumption of Ghana has exposed your underdevelopment |

Jonraid: Sadly,it's never enough.Money has never been enough! We spend the same on per capita terms with Czech republic,Hungary and Bulgaria but we lag behind them. rvp2018 in some scenarios,Africa shouldn't be our benchmark,we should learn how Hungary,Bulgaria and Czech Republic are doing it.
For instance, the report says, many countries such as Hungary, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria with similar levels of per student spending as Kenya have achieved higher completion rates in secondary schools compared to Kenya.
“A cross-country comparison between spending per secondary student (in per capita GDP percentage terms) and secondary completion rates shows that given what Kenya spends, there is room to obtain higher outcomes in terms

rvp2018: Only in Ghana do folks add budget plus suplimentary. In norrmal country suplimentary budget is a revised budget.11B cedis is about 2B dollars.Ghana is small potato Ghana read two budgets almost every year because whiles government may not want to overspend, the demands can be overwhelming such that in most cases it has to revise |

rvp2018: How do you know it's time to rebase? where is data coming from? countries in developed world conduct census or huge national household or economic surveys every 5yr..Ghana cannot afford it..so what the basis for rebasing aggressively? I think 10yrs would work for the level of your underdevelopment The stats came from the ministry of finance, tourism and the trade ministry Those economic stats give them a better view to note that it was a disservice keeping the previous values. you dont need an entire survey to carry out a rebasing when sectorial surveys are available for the purpose you intend to carry out. Institutions like CDD and Imani carry out surveys evey two years. |
