Just another motivation to get a British passport. grin

From the visa application phase to the long travels, it could be financially, physically and mentally draining. cry

Visa cost is the least, traveling cost will depend on cost of hotel accommodation, length of stay, flight ticket and number of people traveling.

To get visa through Portugal cost me about £60 or less, hotel a night in Lisbon was about £80, and hr+ flight from Lisbon to Madrid was about £50 then, no hotel cost as we stayed with my elder brother.

Hi everyone,
am in the UK on a skilled visa, I need to go to France for holiday,
how do I process the visa and the associated cost.

Thanks

Getting an appointment date is your biggest challenge, you may have to go through relatively unknown Schengen country to get a date. Years ago I have to use Portugal for a family trip to Spain

Interesting take. Let's widen the net.

Do you think that living in the West automatically puts any migrating Nigerian above every Nigerian back home (aside politicians e.t.c)? I.e someone on minimum wage in the UK is overall better off than someone earning 15m in 9ja?

No, its not automatic thing, but in the long run you will be better off if your expectations are realistic.

Good evening to you all.

I need your guidance please oooh

I just concluded my study and my graduation is in January 2025. I am planning on applying a visit visa for my younger sister to enable her attend my graduation party.

She finished her undergraduate degree in the year 2022 and also pass out Nysc July 2023. She’s doing nothing at the moment but myself and my brothers do send her stipend from time to time.

I would like to know what sort of documents do I need to show from my end and from her end in order to apply for visa for her she is 25yrs old.

Please help me out . Thank you so much

That will be a tall order as she got nothing to bring her back to Nigeria if given a visa considering her age.

As she is not working or doing business it will be difficult for her to provide any document

I am not gonna share the website you will get that from nor tell you more than I said. Internet is not anonymous and this is against my job ethics.

But I talk as an insider.

As per your family working for oil company for the past 20yrs. Oil company or oil servicing company get levels. A driver working with an oil company don't get the same benefits as a health worker or an engineer. Even engineers get levels.
But as a health worker, all I said applied to her.

There is no need for any of that, just tell me one of those flimsy excuses you talked about, why bring it into the conversation if you are not willing to back it up?

A nurse in an oil company has loads of untapped possibilities outside Nigeria courtesy of the oil company. She is better of with the oil company.

How much is nhs offering her?
Depending on the department, she might not start off well. And cos it's a contract, she will stay in that department for 5 yrs b4 thinking of changing.
Also, nhs always look for nurses that will work in units where home nurses run away from cos of pin problems and court cases. As a jjc, she don't know the system and the bottlenecks therein. Most start off and end up with private companies or agencies. E get why.
Unless there is no offer like what she had, she can go for nhs.
Working in oil company, she also has access to free medicals for all her house members invluding servants as long as they are registered under her and free schools for her kids. The kids can school anywhere in the world courtesy of the help and connections of the oil company for tertiary education. She wanna relocate her family, she will be helped from buying house to settling down for her family
She want to work in Canada or wherever tomorrow, it's easy. And she is sure of promotion.

You can be in band 5 for10 yrs receiving peanuts.
Nigeria is bad yet loads of people are still surviving there.

I can see that many people here do not actually know what one gains while working with major oil companies in Nigeria.

I have two family members working in oil and gas in Nigerian for more than 20yrs now, their families are all abroad but they paid out of pocket for that, yes they are doing well with houses and investments in Nigeria but relocating their families abroad was a personal project, so i don't know where you are getting all these benefits available to oil and gas workers and their families

It's interesting how this argument has "evolved" sha.
I recalled it used to be "200k job in NG or relocating to Canada" around 2013 or so
later it became, "if I earn 500k in NG, I have no business relocating"
then "Bank Mgrs relocating are fools" blah blah
then the benchmark moved to 1m, 2m......now 5m

I'm not advising anyone please (the question seems hypothetical to me at best) but if in a bid to keep the trend logical, the NGN salary moved from 200k to 5m in less than 15years, I wouldn't bank on it when deciding my future.
I think that figure is made-up but i'm not thinking heavily on that to make my points.

The quality of life a N5000,000/month can give you in Nigeria is incomparable to what a measly £30,000/year nursing starting salary can give in the UK. A family in which one earner earns that much in Nigeria can build and/or rent a mansion. A nurse starting salary would struggle to rent a decent flat, let alone qualify for a mortgage. If we even factor in future salary increment in the UK to justify our reasoning, we should also then consider that she would also get an increment in the 5M salary in Nigeria at some point. IF the future of the children is the reason for the move, a few months of savings can allow her sponsor the kids to study in the UK until they can function independently.

If I were in her shoes, I will take the Nigeria job offer. Work and save aggressively for a few years. Visit the UK and spend time understanding the way the system works here for nurses. Do some research into America as well. If I earned that much in Nigeria before I came to the UK in 2009, I wouldn't have made the decision to come.

1. What is your definition of a good quality of life? N500.00 is about £230, so what quality of life will that afford you in a county where you have unrealisable power supply, unmotorable roads, no free health care, no security, abysmal educational system and the govt that is desperately corrupt

2 . She can't afford that even with 2yrs savings while living in Nigeria., how much do you think she needs to save to be able to pay her kids school fees here, rent, bills, feeding, accommodation and someone who will look after them considering their ages and still pay her rent and bills in Nigeria?

The only reason many of us moved out of Nigeria was because we are looking for a better future right? So after living abroad for 3,4,5 yrs what stops you from moving back to Nigeria since Nigeria is a better choice? Please don't tell me that you are waiting to get a job that pays 5M, or you want to get your citizenship here first, no you don't need it, all you need is your Nigerian passport, work experiences and education you have acquired here.

How many times here have you bribed the police to do their job? How many times here have paid for NHS treatment first before receiving treatment even as a visitor ? Yes we all pay NL and taxes but workers in Nigeria pay taxes as well but get nothing out of it.

Moving abroad is not just about money, its about peace of mind, security and a better future.

And neither do you.
But what is clear is that the only person that has a definitive job when they land is her. She'll be on that entry level for at least two years. Her husband will need to bridge that gap for childcare cos those kids are young since .
To do this UK move he needs to be prepared to do what he probably has not been primarily responsible for in Nigeria.

Exactly why i will not assumed that he may not be able to upgrade and get a better job in the UK

If families on student visa can survive in the UK then someone with job at hand and no work restriction will, if families with COS can go on to make a good living in the UK then a nurse with two kids and husband case will not be different.

In 5-6yrs time here they will be naturalised British citizens. Tell me a single sector in Nigeria that works?

I don't think you husband is prepared because with you working the bulk of the work will be with him, including taking care of the kids. Cos your entry level job as a nurse is peanuts .

5 and 7 year olds? SMH

You really know her husband well.

So you think that she will remain in that entry level job for ever? No progression? No salary increases? And her husband will not be interested in upgrading?

He is a civil engineer . No other skill asides that. And he is of the opinion that I should accept the job in the UK mainly because of the kids.

I will take the NHS job offer, 5m is a lot of money yes but Nigeria has no value system and the economy is very unstable .

Take this as a five years project and the family will be settled, someone has to do night shift to make this work.

Please I need to make an important decision in my life and I need opinions expecially from people in the Uk. I am a Nurse in Nigeria who just got 2 job offers, the 1st is with an oil company in Nigeria with a monthly pay of 5million monthly and the second is a job in UK with the NHS. Please I need suggestions please, if you were in my shoes which will u choose. This decision is very important to me. And by the way I am 35yrs with a husband who is a civil servant here and 2 children (5years and 7years).

What is your husband's view on relocating and possibly working night shift considering your kids age? Does he have some skills that can get him a good job in the UK?

Make Una help me jubilate oo, After 3 theory test attempts , 5 practical test attempts, Over 2k£ spent between booking test dates, a car for each tests and driving lessons, I have finally passed today 🍾🥳

Despite having 14yrs experience of driving through the nook and crook of Nigeria thinking I was a professional driver, my doubt was cleared and I had to relearn and throw a way the bad habits .

As Oga Lexus once said “the more years you spent driving the Nigeria roads, the more lessons and trainings you would need to pass unless you are among the few lucky ones. 😂

Congrats! definitely understand the feeling as a family member went through the same experience and it wasn't funny.

Actually in Nigeria it was because Obama refused to supply arms to Nigeria to fight boko haram due to human rights violations according to Obama that drove many Christians to trump they saw Obama and the democrats as anti Christianity for that singular act in addition to all the LGBT ish.

So i'm guessing that Trump supplied those arms to Nigeria during his time in office? Trump appointed Richard Grenell to Cabinet, the first openly gay person to hold a Cabinet-level position, Trump banned Muslims from traveling to America during his time in office but Nigerians did not see that as an attack on religion.

During the COVID I was watching one well known man of God from Nigeria going on about how God sent Trump to change things but that the FBI and some powerful people are fighting him. He believes that the church should pray so that Trump wins second term in office. I was shocked because I respected his teachings and his knowledge of the bible. Thankfully Trump lost as angels from Africa did not intervene

I struggle to understand why some of us immigrants support a con man like Trump. Have you guys listened to his MAGA base like Alex Jones, Steve Bannon, Tucker Carlson and other of his surrogates and see the kind of venom that comes out of their mouth? MAGA is not about policy, it is about " white grievances " and you guys are being used without knowing.

Add Laura Loomer and Marjorie Taylor Greene to that list

It will surprise you to know that a lot of Nigerians support Trump and Putin and will still go to church to pray for peace and good governance in the world

Hehe... it's largely down to lgbtq and abortion issues. Don't be surprised if Reform proposes to strip all non-white folks of their British citizenship and at the same time proposes an anti-abortion/lgbtq stand some of our people would consider supporting him based on the later.

When you losten to those mentioned folks, you see most of their anti-illegal immigration stuff is a smoke screen. Their main concern is the changing demography and increasing attainment of minorities. They then go on to paint previous decades before this change as some utopia to rally their fan base so they can 'make America/UK/AUS/Can great again. Yes, I don't support uncontrolled undocumented immigration but as we've seen with the recent UK election campaign and riots, to many of these nut heads, any non-white person = illegal immigrant.

1010%!!! If those coming over the border are from Norway it will not make news no matter the number.

Christian value? No real Christian will support Trump, obviously Christianity these days got nothing to do with bible values, its all about cult of personality and money.
