Bros...i have been in your shoes so i know that pain in your heart especially when you know you are not a dullard. There is humliation, shame and dissapointment.Even breathing feels heavy and difficult.I am a first born who spilled and then splashed my first semester and graduated with a third class and the future looked bleak.I will tell you a secret...if u dont give up and push through, opportunities will arise again and you will be so ready you will shine. In all modesty i think i probably earn more than 90 percents of people who i was suppose to graduate with.If it does not kill you it will make you stronger and humble.Just get rid of that deppression. |
you guys no de tire for post like this?Ok let me help clarify what is really the 'one of contention'.The pictures/image portrayed of the west is very different from reality and for most immigrants it becomes a rude shock.Having said that, its either you are succesful or you are struggling in the west. The trick is its takes a lot of will, discipline and courage(translation=its tougher to be a bigboy here). So those without these traits will struggle and be discontent.Nevertheless quality of life is way higher abeit expensive(there is no point arguing about that). In conclusion the place wey good for u take am like dat,me i like nigeria and will plan to come back after meeting my objectives(u know say dem de give yankee trained some leverage ) |
and what happens, when in a couple of weeks time exxon regains it number 1 spot? smh making assertions based on stock market valuations is laughable.Well show me your wife and i'll tell you who you are.(i de laff in obj accent ) |

i have greatly benefitted from this thread and would like to give a few tips for frugal living for starters in yankee 1)clothing, you could get some sweaters, jackets from goodwill stores for cheap, plus you get your money back as tax deductible 2)toiletries, i'll rather buy a colgate @ dollartree for $1(generally all toiletries stuff barsoap, tissue, toothpaste are cheaper at a dollar store 3)groceries, walmart and aldi 4)phone, a prepaid phone would do your budget a world of good,straighttalk.net10,metropcs about $30 a month,no thrills,no frills no sweat 5)callcard to nigeria, $2 black and white card is good bout 39 mins,phonecardcentral.com has a per second option,a bit expensive but no hidden charges 6)online purchases, get a visa giftcard for your purchase no extra charges!for buying online from walmart, get a walmart giftcard, they do have great deals online.(shopping with a bank debitcard is just not safe!!!!) just my 2 cents, would love to benefit from others too. ![]() |

Hon. Obahiagbon Again! This Time On Pa Enahoro « on: Yesterday at 12:29:18 PM » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- this guy againnnnnnnnnnnnn Hon.Patrick Obahiagbon on Pa Enahoro Certainly the fall of another titan. Chief Anthony Enahoro's modus vivendi, whilst he peregrinated through this will-o-the-wisp of a three dimensional world, resonated with a divine halo of an iconic personage who was propelled by the PIRKEAVOTHIAN apothegm which urges man to realize "that the day is short and the work is great, " No wonder that from a very young age, he engaged in self abnegation and mortification of the flesh in a spartan, clinical and cerebral bid to salvage the Nigerian project even at the expense of his health infrastructure. He ceaselessly fulminated against vagabonds in power whose primus mobile had philistinic anchorage on a depreciably mindless crave for vacuous hedonism and ingratiating political megalomania. He must have been viscerally pained to note while he was at the departure lounge, that the ship of the Nigerian State was still nosediving and sliding into an eschewable oxbow lake and cataract and he must finally have wondered if the zoning debate currently going on is not another egregious insult by our elitist political class on the pauperized, sissfied and ossified sensibilities and sensitivities of our lumpen proletariat. The only way we can honour this great man who gave his all for Nigeria is for all progressive forces to extricate themselves from the arms of morpheus, with a view to continously dymistify, explode and pulverize the machivellian, mephistophelian, primitively accumulative and rabidly sybaritic propensities of our political class be it at the level of executive suzerainty or parliamentary olympian aloofness. Adieu Pa Anthony Enahoro!! Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon. the guy suppose de play scrabble,e sabi english words no b small.what a waste of ontelligence |
the point has never been to scare ppl,but to let them have an idea of the reality, boy the average yankee guy de work pass average naija guy just to stay above water,Landlord no de hear story hear oh, i just lost my job,my papa die etc.Of course with determination, prayer and evry U.S is worth it.Lemme give example of myself even though i was never *naive* i thot i could get anyhow job in less than 2 weeks afterall for naija dat one no hard, you get my drift! na only nursing assistant easy to get ![]() In simple english, yankee is not a party affair Information is a good weapon. |

@james2020,from my personal experience i had a certain document which was problematic and was given 'a form' with that document checked, pending when i solve that issue, visa would be granted(after a full interview had been done). So i am assuming*hoping* your interview went well pending the resolution of your transcript or else you would have been told earlier of visa denial,so please get your transcript to the embassy in good time.I am assuming you went to a post-secondary school during that time frame.? GOOD LUCK BRO! P.S details would be nice |
LWKMD [very entertaining thread, reminds me of FUJI HOUSE OF COMMOTION ![]() |
People are still deceived on the reality of the united states , if you dont have your complete tuition fee from Nigeria dont bother coming except u have made up your mind to come and hussle, leave what uncles and aunties are telling you leave what your friends are telling you and make sure you have yourself sorted out Some hard truth, but we nigerians are everly optimistic, believing that if we can 'survive' in nigeria we can survive anywhere, which is a goo d thing .But seriously if you don't have enough tuition then at least have enough money to get a car because 'hustling' in the u.s is another thing entirely.I guess the point is to be psychologicaly prepared!!Afterall, completing a degree in the u.s is to great advantage, but to lose your status and not complete your study will remind someone of kunta kente .e go better! |

@james2020,going thru the thread you sound like a confused and very desperate guy,i'm concerned for you oh,i think you really, i mean really calm down,if not consular no go ask you even one question. ![]() Seriously througout the thread you have displayed excessive anxiety, indeciveness and lots of confusion even immaturity. No offence but 'the truth shall set you free' guy try adjust yourself ! ![]() |
4ril congrats,u truly were lucky.I fould 3 holes in your interview which should have easily disqualified you. 1)Lie that you applied to two schools.Do you know that if you lie on the spot you are likely to blink rapidly, these guys are trained to detect things and besides its not even neccessary.I applied to one school period. 2)My father is breadwinner and sick at the same time:dat one na old school na ![]() 3)Answering questions you didn't even understand.Lucky you!!! Welcome to yankee, will check for the cheapest flight to jfk,i used emirates for a $1000 but i think there are cheaper ones btw algeria and morrocco. |
ouch, yeah there is no place like new york. Now if only you had asked at the info desk for your options, you would have found that you cud get to your destination using air train for about $7 tops. Please as a jjc always ask questions to the approraite ppl.Nothing is what it seems in america! ![]() |

This thread is so Messed up all is see now is how people are so confident they could even ask the consular for a cup of coffee before their interview. This place is beginning to SMELL! When I was preparing I got something from every post on this thread even though I disagreed with some of them I always picked something out of the ones I disagreed with. The only thing you can pick from here now is fear because some people have made it their mission to put fear in people. May God help us all, dj,pl how does being confident invoke fear?you seem to be passing the wrong message, besides no one is suggesting ppl give perfect answers. In any interview being confident helps and i'm sorry if you diasgree with that but it definitely makes things easier besides most of the consulars do potray a friendly demeanour and are patient. To panic is human, but i fail to see what good it will do if your stuck on it.Honestly confidence helps. For one thing your interview is more likely to be shorter and sucessful but then again as in life threr are no guarantees. |
hello guys,i just came to the states this year as a permanent resident and plan to do my masters ASAP and i have found this thread very informative. let me just give a few advise(i no b expert oh):as long as your goin to study is genuine,be as confindent as ever for the interview, give very short answers to questions(they will be nodding their head urging you to go on, DONT)do not try to impress OYINBO with long grammar or funny accent.Be as relaxed as if you are on a date and you will definately be fine.Wish you guys the Best! |
thanks woodrose for your kind advise,i have ccna and am still preparing for CCNP route exams.Reguirements which seems to come up oftens bothers on programming/database of which i have limited knowledge,so i find my learning curve has got to be much steeper.i do appreciate your input ![]() |
![]() I sure hope you guys comparing which country is dirtier, which country is better e.t.c are still in secondary school,it just will be shameful if adults are the ones doing all this nonsense that is not constructive in any form. ![]() |
THIS IS NOW A BEER PARLOUR THREAD ![]() |
okay,i want to try and put some sanity into this thread, with all the personal insults and all.I think i am most suitably qualified to talk about nigeria and abroad (us)objectively.I was born and bred in nigeria, got an enginering degree there, migrated to the states this year so i dont have any preconcieved notions about both country. There are oppurtunities in nigeria,no doubts and there are challenges too.Truth be told we have infrastructural, health, educational as well as law issues with nigeria just to name a few.As a matter of fact one of the first challenges a new immigrant abroad will face is the respect for rule and law, which at home he/she is not used too.Again there are ppl going through untold hardship in nigeria.I was "privileged" to work in a local govt in northern nigeria where poverty is appalling.FYI they have a farming season of about 4 months, mostly illiterate and make do with their harvest for the rest of the year,no point telling you they have poor management skills or telling the poorest ppl in the developed world cant live like that. Now to the U.S,there is no point saying this is a land of oppurtunuties for ppl with focus afterall it has 25% of the world GDP!!!however, there are challenges also, there are poor ppl:destitutes,beggars,run-down housing estates most nigerians dont dare go to, in my opinion this poverty is mostly self-afflicted as most most of the destitutes i've seen show symptoms of drug addiction, but thats generally speaking.Anoher point, with should be the crux of all this arguement is that life in the u.s is far from a bed of roses,i personally was shocked that americans have a higher work ethics than nigerians. You earn every dolar you get literally, always on your toes unlike govt work in nigeria and you pay bills lots of them, giving little room for savings.Hving said that i still dont see why ppl should feel more patriotic or condescending of others based on their personal choices.I intend to get some qualtative educational trainig in the u.s(or is someone going to tell me to i'm better off doing it in nigeria) and along the way i will decide if i want to come back home. BTW,JUST TOO PUT THINGS INTO PERPECTIVE, I DIDNT APPLY DIRECTLY NEITHER DID I PRAY FOR A GREEN CARD,BUT I'M SURE GLAD I GOT IT!!!!!!!! |
buzz, welcome back i kinda missed your entertaining rants btw i think your other friend(the one that cannot be seen) is MAD!! but your alright!!!! ![]() |
THANK GOD I'VE FOUND MY HOME IN NL ![]() Hi Guys,i am a jjc immigrant who was excited about the oppurnities i would get in the I.T/telecomm industries in the states. My background is as such:electrical engineering(first degree),some network adminstration experience,lan/cabling.cisco certs, ccnp in progress. Career goals:to be a voip engineer, get a Msc in telecomms degree(US),gets hands dirty in i.p networks Challenges:overwelmed by the reguirements for entry level positions(helpdesk, tech support e.t.c),hindered by 'experience' Question:please gentlemen i need advice as to how to break into the i.t industry in the u.s,while pursuing my career goals.thanks |
i would think this would have shattered the illusion. so people still trying to migrate in 2010 are simply lazy myopic fools. yeah i said it. buzz-man,so me that won a visa lottery, and is using it to do my masters in telecoms engineering and intend to get some I.T which would have been quite challenging is myopic, lazy and foolish abi? you see yourself, you can never know someone until you allow him to run his mouth.Nice of you to paint ppl with a wide brush ![]() |
but seriously, whats the point arguing which poor ppl are better off, like poverty should be a goal or are you saying you know nigerians living in "poverty" abroad that were better off living in "poverty in nigeria". PPL will migrate for whatever reasons they choose be it better oppurtunities, comfort, security,ORDER and whatever!!! I love nigeria but i think nigerians, ![]() |
buzz, pleaseeeeee stop this the poor and the rich eat "exactly" the same food thing.Though a trivial point it really makes you look like a clown ![]() |
seriously, you are joking or just ignorant.I grew up in the north and have seen beggars with sores who sleep in the dry cold harmattan outside and hardly eat enough as some poor nigerians dogs.Homeless ppl abound in nigeria, north and south.the other day i gave a beggar hundred naira in lagos and he almost wept.PLEASE IF YOU MUST MAKE AN ARGUEMENT,BE OBJECTIVE!!!! Of what relevance is that to the topic. So the self-employed low income earners in Nigeria are in the same category as those who for cultural or religous reasons take to begging as an occupation. Do you not know that a large proportion of adult Nigerians are in fact self employed? Mr Tensor,i was replying to someone who said the poorest 3% of nigerians can afford a bottle of beer ![]() now it appears you are not in nigeria, probably not a "nigerian".PPL are destitutes in nigeria for various reasons as in the u.s ot just for religious/cultural reasons.i know teachers with families earning less than 13000 naira a month, with their poor parents depending on them.you do the maths.Self employed, hardworking ppl selling pure water making 200 naira per day.please it is wickedness to deny there is poverty in nigeria in the name of 'patroitism" |
BUZUGEE ?your arguements have now turned to rantings abi? A simple Quetion was 'do you regret moving abroad?' Now if you do,say so and Give your personal reasons if you please, what is with all these "ppl" regreting for others as if na by force ![]() Every Man for himself jor!! |
